DHQ TO PARTNER NSE IN SETTING UP RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AGENCY The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has sought the assistance of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in its plan to set up a Research and Development Agency for the Military. The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) made this request, when the leadership of the NSE paid him a courtesy visit at the DHQ, Abuja. The CDS, an Engineer himself intimated his guests that the Research and Development department of the DHQ is being upgraded to an agency in order to have the capacity to attract proper funding. The bill for the establishment of the agency is already before the National Assembly. General Olonisakin insisted that until Nigeria become self-reliant in Military technology, it will not be able to do much in warfare. He said “When you import everything, you are at the mercy of the manufacturers of the platforms. We must encourage our engineers to be innovative in the areas of ingenious technology. This will make the nation to develop.” Earlier, President of the NSE, Engr. Otis Anyaeji who was elated that an Engineer was found worthy of the position of the CDS congratulated him and prayed that God will grant him the wisdom, strength and health to carry out the task of looking after the entire Nigeria Defence system. Anyaeji while urging the CDS to create areas of interaction for the progress of Defence related engineering also disclosed that there are Military engineers who are yet to register with the NSE and therefore handed over registrations forms to the CDS to that effect. The NSE president also used the occasion to invite General Olonisakin to grace the opening ceremony of its upcoming annual convention in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State on November 22. The CDS promised to be represented at the occasion. The NSE also commended the feat the Armed Forces had achieved recently in areas of defence engineering leading to the use of drones and local manufacturing of aircraft spare parts. |

NA DRONES IN CION The Nigerian Air Force made a major stride when it announced that it used an Unarmed Combat Aerial Vehicle (UAV) popularly known as Drones to destroy a Boko Haram logisitics base in Sambisa forest. Nigerian Air Force Group captain Ayodele Famuyiwa confirmed that the drone’s weapon was activated over what looked like an ammunition and fuel depot for the terrorist group, seemingly destroying it in minutes. This is the first time the Nigerian Army has used a Drone in its fight against terrorism, though there have been a few drone trials over the past two years. The armed CH-3 UAV was sold to Nigeria by China, to help in its campaign against Boko Haram. Nigeria joins other Nations like the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, Pakistan, and Iraq who have adopted the use of Drones in modern warfare. The Nigeria army is not left out in the deployment of UAV popularly known as drones. In a recent documented video made public by the army spokesman col. SK usman showing different types and categories of Quadrocopter & drones. The drone has being a game changer for the army, its gives battle field commanders ample event of BHT movement. Then commanders decide on how to prosecute and neutralize target through foot soldiers on ground, artillery fire or mobile multi-barrel rockets. The Nigeria army now has a UAV dept/command which is still developing, the head quatars of the regiment (50 SPACE REGIMENT) is located in Maimalari cantonment Maiduguri. Below are the screen grabs of the documented video-

Tochex101:Yeap....... A senior Nigerian soldier was on Tuesday killed by the Boko Haram, reports Premium Times. B.U. Umar, a lieutenant colonel and commanding officer of 114 TF battalion of the Nigerian Army was ambushed alongside his troops on Monday morning between Bita and Piridang. “His vehicle stepped on an improvised explosive device, but he was not hurt,” a source disclosed. “He came out to assess the damage on the vehicle and Boko Haram opened fire and killed him in the process.” The soldiers were said to be on their way to Yola in Adamawa State from Bita in Borno State when the incident occurred, sources said. The full casualty from the attack is not yet clear. Mr. Umar, who recently took over the command of the 114 battalion about three weeks ago, was a member of the 48 Regular Course in the Nigeria Defence Academy, NDA. When contacted, the Army spokesperson, Sani Usman, said he was unaware of Mr. Umar’s death. He said he would seek further confirmation from appropriate authorities. The killing of Mr. Umar occurs about a week after another Lieutenant Colonel, Muhammed Abu-Ali, and his troops were killed in another ambush by Boko Haram. Fourteen Boko Haram insurgents and four other soldiers died in that attack, the army said. The attacks by the Boko Haram have continued despite ongoing negotiation with the federal government. The negotiations already led to the release of 21 of the over 200 Chibok girls kidnapped by the sect in 2014. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/11/breaking-boko-haram-kills-another-nigerian-lieutenant-colonel/

giles14:1.8k IFV is not much at all, when NA was at its best we've managed more than than number well. Currently we are managing over 1000 serviceable oldies. If we are buying over 1.8k IFV, we are up to the task. We simply send personnel to be trained abroad, increase the army intake to sustain what you have on ground , make sure there is an outfit facility where the hardware can be maintained and serviced and lastly availability of spare parts, if possible if they can be produced locally has the NAF his currently building on. The thing his we Nigerians are intelligent ; we know what to be done and how to go about it, only corruption has taken over our system. |
chinese8107:Yeap I said mixed IFV/AFV both wheeled and tracked type. Both I'll rather go for the track IFV for the desert terrain like ;sambisa & kekeno desert terrain. And wheeled vehicle for motorable village to village routes. Let's just av them both variants in our inventory. |
homerac7:God bless you. Nice contribution, you said what is needed and what to begin with for a nation of over 200 million people with vast porous borders that has the tendency of excaliation at any time. |
giles14:mate considering the vast terrain of the N.E( borno, yobe, yola & Adamawa) 200 and 500-700 both wheeled and tracked IFV to support the MBT. Honestly I do not have the privilege to exploit sambisa forest very well but I speak of KEKENO where I was once deployed and posted. KEKENO is a border town desert with niger republic, it's fucken vast in terrain talk less of sambisa. 120 units of MBT comprising of t72 & t90, shows we are not ready to prosecute and dessicated BHT. The truth is Nigeria military is used to such weak procurement power due to our corruption. |

giles14:Of course they bought all those hardware and we where not arguing that including 6units of the bozena mine sweeper that arrived late. But has I said earlier most of these hard ware where junks and over prised. What we are saying is the mode of Operation ranging from troops welfare, node of Operation on the theatre/field & logistic, more professionalism not those days Nigeria army took to there heals and abandon there equipment, we are seeing much a professional army we could be proud of.... ![]() Now answer my question ; BHT is a war which you av to see ur self it's not just the conventional war fare we all know but it's a WAR going on. What numbers of MBT and IFV/AFV does the NA needs..... ![]() |
LTGEN:Watching these video, you will know that the present COAS is just innovative and being creative. A Lot of things has to be done on the side of the Federal government, like allocating proper and increasing funds of the Defence. Enough of loosing brave soldiers ;farhers, sons and relative they deserve proper fighting equipment. Join the military does not mean you are going to die. Ask a civilian today they tell you join the army and after basic training you will be sent to the evil forest which your eventuality of returning home is slim. If we are sending them to fight let's equip them properly. The COAS which I highly commend it's effort by rejuvenating some oldies i:e Vickers MBT back to life to fight BHT. These is not proper but there is a saying that when the "innovation is the mother of necessity" . Which is what his currently doing now to bridge that hard ware gap. Our army needs serious intervention, if that money that was released during the Dansuki's regime was judiciously and properly used we wouldn't av just purchased BMP-1 & t72 breaking down timeless, rejected BRT-4E by irag that our top chiefs then bought. Only REVAS and BIG FOOT MRAP are of good quality. The Vickers MBT and scorpion light tank are not proper for these type of CION. That is why u see them being abandoned when BHT attack troops position. Much is yet to be done, I hope Mr president can do more. Interesting videos, guys hope u download and watch them. |
Government forces recapture town after Al Shabaab retreat Southwest military forces backed by Somali National Army (SNA) have wrested full control of the southern town of Tiyeglow in Bakool region from Al Shabaab militants on Monday, Garowe Online reports. A senior Southwest state official, told GO that their forces, along with SNA had "stormed the town of Tiyeglow without resistance soon after the insurgents pulled out". Yesterday, the allied troops had successfully retaken El Garas area also in Bakool region before seizing Tiyeglow district in Bakool region in southern Somalia, which came under Al Shabaab control in October. Earlier last month, Ethiopian troops serving with African Union peacekeeping troops (AMISOM) have pulled out of several key areas in southern and central Somalia, giving Al Shabaab access to comeback. But Somali Federal government has announced it will push Al Shabaab out of the remaining pockets which they seized from SNA and AMISOM forces. Al Shabaab was forced out of Mogadishu, five years ago, but the group still continues to launch regular attacks on military and civilian targets in its fight to overthrow the weak western-backed Somali government. |
giles14:Watch these videos ur self and please envisage the numbers of MBT, IFV/AFV will be needed to properly prosecute the N.E war and for the entire army itself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGVNShPswW0 |

Henry240:hmmm.................../ but there remains his in the hangers of NAF base janji. |
doziex:I think in terms of the war prosecuting we are not doing bad at all. according to rumor source and until its being confirmed we are getting up to 30 jf-17 multirole fighters , which is also good for ground and strike roles, and they are very cheap to maintain. only its taking time these jets should already be in nigeria. The Aermacchi MB.33; some are still serviceable and active. i think the upgrade contract thing by the italians never happened . please dont let us be misinformed, yes we need more MBTs in our CION , but that is not to say a single Tank crew to be racing from firefight to firefight , thats a wrong insight to the on going war. The current COAS saw that the T72s where actively & relentlessly used due to the size of the N.E frontline, thats why they came up with the idea of fixing grounded VICKERS EAGLE MBT to support and ease the burden on the T72s and that was a brilliant solution. the americans has not being helping since the heat beginning of the war so why now. the tucano jet sale has being cancell and i dont know why our serving chiefs are not learning from our past mistakes. let america have a drone base in nigeria if they will not give you the tucanos for free... lovely contribution mate. |
