PoliticsRe: States Accuse FG Of Sabotaging Power Sector Decentralisation by bigboa: 9:52pm On Jul 30, 2025
And that is the crux of the argument: If the states have exclusive control of their power systems, they have the right to determine the pricing in conjunction with the GenCos. Any GenCo that doesn't like it can bounce. It is not the FGs place to police the states... They should go face the other macroeconomic issues plaguing the country.

Neoteny:
States cannot set tariffs for electricity they neither generated nor transmitted. If they want to reduce tariffs, they should subsidize the portion they discounted, otherwise they should generate and wheel the electricity they want to reduce prices for.

It's that simple.
PoliticsRe: States Accuse FG Of Sabotaging Power Sector Decentralisation by bigboa: 9:49pm On Jul 30, 2025
Actually, Nigeria has an installed power generation capacity of over 17,000MW. The problem is that we only generate and transmit what can be paid for which unfortunately has been below 3,500MW until this year when we consistently began to transmit above 5,000MW. With the states now able to individually negotiate their consumption, this value will improve as the need to respect "federal character" is no more. Na moni for hand, back for ground.

udemzyudex:
You're the one bringing up the generator nonesense cos I didn't mention that in my post, why don't you use your brain and think why a country with over 250m population can't boast of 10,000 mega watts?

Do you want to tell me you don't know the importance of electricity in economy development?
Why is it so hard for every government to improve on it starting from Obasanjo? They'll come and leave it at 6000 and some people will come out and say the problem is distribution and not generation yet for how many years they still can't solve any of it.

Use your brain for once and think deeply, this is not conspiracy theory, I wonder why people like you who fail to think deeply will come out to shout conspiracy when you're the one actually doing that.
PoliticsRe: States Accuse FG Of Sabotaging Power Sector Decentralisation by bigboa: 9:42pm On Jul 30, 2025
Actually, the FG doesn't own any GenCo. They've all been privatised. The transmission grid which belonged to TCN (which has been privatised) has basically been made a "public infrastructure" similar to the expressways. The bone of contention is the payment of NGN4trillion owed the GenCos for gas, subsidies and under-recovery.
The GenCos would rather collect sooner than later. Reducing the tariffs means long term investment which they are all running from. The irony is that they still wouldn't release the assets if the got paid up right now. It's all about creating a volatile environment to justify short term investments and high pricing.

COMPAQ:
If ENUGU state wants electricity to be N160 in its regulatory domain, it either generates its own electricity and sells it at whatever price it wants or buys it from the grid and subsidises it. There is no other way. As of now, almost all the power plants in the country belong to the Federal Government, as well as the Transmission grid.

And state government shad better not go down that route of subsidy. It has not worked in any sector in Nigeria. All it breeds is corruption and inefficiency. The tariff should be cost reflective. Let the business thrive and grow by itself.
PoliticsRe: Marketers Worry As Five-Month Fuel Imports Hit ₦‎6 Trillion by bigboa: 10:19am On Mar 07, 2025
The major issue is that energy is sold in FUTURES (not on demand basis).

Most of NNPCL's deals are frontloaded (maybe 3 - 5yrs) so they are stuck for the short-term future.

Their only hope is to ensure the local refineries can achieve a significantly low cost of production to allow them offset
the expenses of importation.

Ultimately, they are at Dangote's mercy although I doubt he would gain much if the NNPCL collapsed.
PoliticsRe: What Some States Contributed To The VAT Pool And What They Received - Nov 2024 by bigboa: 11:01pm On Dec 19, 2024
Odingo1:
You are still not understanding it, it doesn’t matter where the company headquarters is located, what matters here is where the produced items is consumed and that where the VAT goes. Where a company locate their headquarters doesn’t matter.
Very succinctly put.

VAT is a consumption tax. This means it measures the economic activities reported in each state.
Some states like Kano may have a higher level of commercial/economic activity but what VAT is telling us is that a large portion of that data is not being captured.
The idea is simple: State governors have the responsibility to improve their states commercial and economic levels which will then boost the microeconomy (ie standard/cost of living metrics) in the states. The federal government's responsibility is to manage the macroeconomy (security, exchange rate, foreign policy) which it is already doing.

For too long, the federal government has taken on the responsibilities of the states and local governments and while not being able to cater to those responsibilities adequately, the federal government continues to falter and fail while handing a free pass to the state governors who feed fat while doing nothing.
PoliticsRe: 24/7 Electricity Availability (MW): What We Have Vs What We Need by bigboa: 2:14am On Oct 18, 2024
ofwest47:
Electricity availability they say when the head is off it will be too late to cry. Power supply systems in the country has being in destructive positions from the beginning of the beginning of freedom in the country.
Nigeria the 6th largest population in the world with over 200 000000 million ; in need of 200000Mw power supply but with just about 4000Mw as at today 17 October 2024 .
Brazil the 7th largest population with about 185000000 million having over 185000Mw ,see also the country called Mexico the 10th largest with over 150 million people having over 1500Mw.
In the case of Nigeria, a country in need of over 200000Mw but just with a little over 4000 Mw.
To every problem there is always a solution.
The solution is to have several direct foreign private power supply systems companies generations, Transmission and Distribution operations companies to be established in the country for direct
Power supply systems operations supply all over the country at a good price rate for every supply users.
So over the governmental Administration to go into the entire solution for the dead and buried power supply systems situations in the country.
Actually, the solution is similar to what is needed to solve our myriad problems: Optimize the value chain.

The major problem is revenue generation across the supply chain. Since the value chain is not homogenous ie run by one company, it makes it difficult to determine who prioritizes the scarce revenue that comes in. GenCos need funds in bulk to allow them pay for gas, carry out maintenance and order spares. In return, their most efficient move is to sell energy in futures so as to access these bulk payments.
The DisCos on the other hand determine how much revenue is collected and would rather play defense by only requesting as much power as they can collect revenue for on a monthly basis which ultimately stunts the profitability of the sector.
Before any reasonable investor can come in, they will either have to take control of the whole value chain or the DisCos will have to increase their revenue generation capabilities to the point where it becomes efficient for all the players (ie raise prices).
PoliticsRe: 24/7 Electricity Availability (MW): What We Have Vs What We Need by bigboa: 1:52am On Oct 17, 2024
The current total installed capacity of all the captive power plants in Nigeria is about 17,000MW or thereabouts. Unfortunately we haven't ever transmitted up to 6000MW in our history. While TCNs network is suspect, the major issue is from the Discos who only demand the amount of power that they can pay for (which is why we get about 3,500MW - 3,800MW monthly) and find ways of rationing the same. Rather than ensure all customers are metered and serial debtors are disconnected, they prefer the easier path which ultimately keeps us in the dark.

BusinessRe: How Much Is BUA Cement In Your Area? by bigboa: 6:07am On Oct 21, 2023
rajiedreez:
smiley Dangote, lafarge and cement distributors are the ones frustrating the efforts. I've had that people are already buying BUA for #3,700 in Iwo town and other places where BUA is popular before now.

But distributors in places like Lagos and Ibadan aren't buying the BUA cement because there's no incentive for them on it. A trucker told me that for every 7 trucks of dangote cement a distributor but, dangote will give them 1 additional trick free of charge. So they choose to remain with dangote for their own gain and also if they meet a certain target in a year they'd be given a brand new Truck for their business
Sir, you are in error. As has been stated by @saintinoo :
"The prob problem is from you op, BUA did not and has no power to fix it produce retail price. They said that the ex factory price is #3500, not the retail price. Now the question you should as is, what was the ex factory price before the reduction. #3600, #3800, #4000, then it is insignificant."

BUA only reduced the price for self-collect not direct delivery because the route to the Okpella plant is very bad. Even this strategy was not aimed at lowering the market price (which is already optimized by demand/supply) but to encourage third party hauliers come move his product.

I would like to restate: no manufacturer has the direct influence to lower cement price because market dynamics will just raise it up... Lower a bit and supply will fall thereby raising prices higher. This is partly why Umahi's insistence on concrete roads as a standard is a bad idea: sumtin wey neva reach builders use, dem wan share wiv road makers... Double wahala.

Actually, the law prescribes that anything in a person's space belongs to that person. Technically, the neighbor owns any part of the banana plant in his yard. This is why one should avoid allowing your property stray into your neighbors space. Check out this case from the UK

JP Clark-Bekederomo with Night rain. A poem so powerful it titillates all the senses.

What I mean is that we appreciate what resonates with us.

TV/MoviesRe: Which Is Best ?hisense Vs Polystar Tv by bigboa: 9:22pm On Sep 28, 2020
The android skin on the polystar allows you to manipulate it like a mobile device so it is kinda preferable if you're a tinkerer. Major downside is that it doesn't have a power saving mode. The Hisense on the other hand has a power saving mode but the android skin is inflexible and infinitely frustrating to configure.

Modified: What's it with nairaland guys and they always trying desperately to fault women in any post concerning them. How can i in good conscience tell my husband that his sister is trying to scam us? Do you know the blowout that could happen from it? The bad blood that may be forever caused by such accusstion? Yeah my sil was trying to pull a con, but she's not the devil. Even now, I respect her and still relate well with her especially as she didnt succeed.

For my husband, i told him that his sister could mean well and i just wasn't sure of her source and when a source I'm sure about comes around, only then will we pay, but if he still believes the job is legit, he can go ahead and pay. Of course he didn't pay and the whole thing ended there.

The way i did it was the best because even now, everything has died down. Pkatakpata they'd only say i was too proud to take the job offer. That isnt a sin.
I applaud your wisdom and maturity in this matter. It takes a lot to sacrifice oneself for the sake of peace especially when you are being exploited. God give you more grace.
