And that is the crux of the argument: If the states have exclusive control of their power systems, they have the right to determine the pricing in conjunction with the GenCos. Any GenCo that doesn't like it can bounce. It is not the FGs place to police the states... They should go face the other macroeconomic issues plaguing the country. Neoteny: |
Actually, Nigeria has an installed power generation capacity of over 17,000MW. The problem is that we only generate and transmit what can be paid for which unfortunately has been below 3,500MW until this year when we consistently began to transmit above 5,000MW. With the states now able to individually negotiate their consumption, this value will improve as the need to respect "federal character" is no more. Na moni for hand, back for ground. udemzyudex: |
Actually, the FG doesn't own any GenCo. They've all been privatised. The transmission grid which belonged to TCN (which has been privatised) has basically been made a "public infrastructure" similar to the expressways. The bone of contention is the payment of NGN4trillion owed the GenCos for gas, subsidies and under-recovery. The GenCos would rather collect sooner than later. Reducing the tariffs means long term investment which they are all running from. The irony is that they still wouldn't release the assets if the got paid up right now. It's all about creating a volatile environment to justify short term investments and high pricing. COMPAQ: |
The major issue is that energy is sold in FUTURES (not on demand basis). Most of NNPCL's deals are frontloaded (maybe 3 - 5yrs) so they are stuck for the short-term future. Their only hope is to ensure the local refineries can achieve a significantly low cost of production to allow them offset the expenses of importation. Ultimately, they are at Dangote's mercy although I doubt he would gain much if the NNPCL collapsed. |
Odingo1:Very succinctly put. VAT is a consumption tax. This means it measures the economic activities reported in each state. Some states like Kano may have a higher level of commercial/economic activity but what VAT is telling us is that a large portion of that data is not being captured. The idea is simple: State governors have the responsibility to improve their states commercial and economic levels which will then boost the microeconomy (ie standard/cost of living metrics) in the states. The federal government's responsibility is to manage the macroeconomy (security, exchange rate, foreign policy) which it is already doing. For too long, the federal government has taken on the responsibilities of the states and local governments and while not being able to cater to those responsibilities adequately, the federal government continues to falter and fail while handing a free pass to the state governors who feed fat while doing nothing. |
ofwest47:Actually, the solution is similar to what is needed to solve our myriad problems: Optimize the value chain. The major problem is revenue generation across the supply chain. Since the value chain is not homogenous ie run by one company, it makes it difficult to determine who prioritizes the scarce revenue that comes in. GenCos need funds in bulk to allow them pay for gas, carry out maintenance and order spares. In return, their most efficient move is to sell energy in futures so as to access these bulk payments. The DisCos on the other hand determine how much revenue is collected and would rather play defense by only requesting as much power as they can collect revenue for on a monthly basis which ultimately stunts the profitability of the sector. Before any reasonable investor can come in, they will either have to take control of the whole value chain or the DisCos will have to increase their revenue generation capabilities to the point where it becomes efficient for all the players (ie raise prices). |
The current total installed capacity of all the captive power plants in Nigeria is about 17,000MW or thereabouts. Unfortunately we haven't ever transmitted up to 6000MW in our history. While TCNs network is suspect, the major issue is from the Discos who only demand the amount of power that they can pay for (which is why we get about 3,500MW - 3,800MW monthly) and find ways of rationing the same. Rather than ensure all customers are metered and serial debtors are disconnected, they prefer the easier path which ultimately keeps us in the dark. |

rajiedreez:Sir, you are in error. As has been stated by @saintinoo : "The prob problem is from you op, BUA did not and has no power to fix it produce retail price. They said that the ex factory price is #3500, not the retail price. Now the question you should as is, what was the ex factory price before the reduction. #3600, #3800, #4000, then it is insignificant." BUA only reduced the price for self-collect not direct delivery because the route to the Okpella plant is very bad. Even this strategy was not aimed at lowering the market price (which is already optimized by demand/supply) but to encourage third party hauliers come move his product. I would like to restate: no manufacturer has the direct influence to lower cement price because market dynamics will just raise it up... Lower a bit and supply will fall thereby raising prices higher. This is partly why Umahi's insistence on concrete roads as a standard is a bad idea: sumtin wey neva reach builders use, dem wan share wiv road makers... Double wahala. |

Actually, the law prescribes that anything in a person's space belongs to that person. Technically, the neighbor owns any part of the banana plant in his yard. This is why one should avoid allowing your property stray into your neighbors space. Check out this case from the UK https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/5181542/family-ordered-to-hand-their-600000-home-to-neighbours-in-fence-row-reveal-they-have-no-idea-what-will-happen-to-them/ |

JP Clark-Bekederomo with Night rain. A poem so powerful it titillates all the senses. That being said, I think it is difficult to appreciate a poem if the reader cannot identify with the context/culture the poet is writing in. What I mean is that we appreciate what resonates with us. |

Please where can one replace S4 (X626) screen in Abule Egba? |
The android skin on the polystar allows you to manipulate it like a mobile device so it is kinda preferable if you're a tinkerer. Major downside is that it doesn't have a power saving mode. The Hisense on the other hand has a power saving mode but the android skin is inflexible and infinitely frustrating to configure. |
Amya:I applaud your wisdom and maturity in this matter. It takes a lot to sacrifice oneself for the sake of peace especially when you are being exploited. God give you more grace. |
Hi. Please do you have the screen of doogee mix 6/64? |
No Yankari Game Reserve (in Gombe)? No Shere hills (in Jos)? No Gashaka/Gumti wildlife park (in Taraba)? No Gembu (also in Taraba)? No Obudu cattle ranch (in Calabar)? No Slave museum (in Badagry)? No National Conservation center (in Lekki)? @OP, your list is severely limited without the above. I can personally tell you that all the above are locations that would match/top the already listed. C'mon people, let's patronize these places and grow Nigeria. #staycation. |
GAZZUZZ:Thanks for the response Sir. I'm considering getting one but was unsure of it's ruggedness as I commute to Abeokuta from Lagos frequently. I hope to join the ranks of your reliably served customers soon. |
Good morning Gazzuzz. Please what's your take on the 2012 ix35? Is it a rugged daily driver or a 'soft' car? Thanks. |
thaoriginator:Anyone who grew up in Ikeja environs would remember the arcade that was on Allen opposite Afribank then (96ish) before they moved to GRA opposite Country club. The new zone then was on Obafemi Awolowo way where they had mostly N64s. |
naptu2:Bro, you're a true legend. My Pops had the binatone game and that was the first I ever saw (86) and played before Shadow knights and Dangerous Dave (93). |
Hello @Gazzuz. Please what's your opinion of recent turbocharged 4cyl engines like the Tucson and escape? |
No drainage? Even if the road is built with iron, if the drainage is not well done then work done = 0. |
Is it still available and how much last? |

Dangote, lafarge and cement distributors are the ones frustrating the efforts. I've had that people are already buying BUA for #3,700 in Iwo town and other places where BUA is popular before now.
it's 69,000km now, and only major thing replaced is rear suspension bushings.
