Shipping from China to Lagos Nigeria you are looking at about 30 t0 45 days on the average plus or minus 15 days by sea . If you are looking to import containers would suggest you visit . It is a long flight but may open new opportunities!. It is also important to know what you plan to import . Our company took delivery of 6 containers from China end of 2009 using Nile Dutch shipping Nile for part of the transaction from Shanghai .
With due respect most of the Chinese shipping line companies in our experience are incredibly slow in terms of their internal operations' and procedures to Nigeria compared to say GRIMALDI Shipping line .Your containers may very well be held up in Nigeria if you know what I mean in view of port congestion etc . Spend a bit more time on your research and try and go for clearing agents who are up to speed and know what they are doing .

I was opportuned to visit The people's Republic of China recently on business trip . It was my first trip to that part of the world . Shanghai is a beautiful city and also travelled to Zhenghzhou capital of the Henan Province as I was told ,more on this to come later ! . The business trip was successful but I was Angry and sad  for Nigeria and was crying in my heart for Nigeria throughout my one week stay in China.
All you see and feel and smell  around you is industry, hardwork and determination  of young men and women! It tells you loads about the mindset of the people hence the point about Nuclearboy!
From what I saw during my trip young people essentially drive the Economy mainly between ages 18- 28/30 . Boy if you are 35yo you are too old and I think this is serious . Every where you go. Airports, duty free shops , the hotels,restaurants ,businesses the yYoungpeople are at the frontline smartly dressed,active and full of Energy and courteous .I Suspectthe big guys are behind the scene.
There is a lot more to be said but in summary a people can achieve a lot by simply switching their 'MINDSET' and be ready to do the hardwork as exemplified by the 'Chinese boy' in the House Nuclearboy!

Thank you Moves and Yanka for your helpful contribution and the issues you have raised on this topic . I would personally like to raise some issues/make some comments about real estate investments in Nigeria .

1. It is a relatively new market, there is still a lot of potential for growth . This is great! compared to US or UK MARKETS WHICH IN REALITY ARE OVER SATURATED

2. The Market is relatively unregulated . This has it's pros and cons but more importantly it presents opportunities to make good money to the careful and savvy investor!

3. I agree with Moves that Capital outlay  is heavy but you don't have to start at the high end of the Market depending on your pocket. You dont have to start at Lekki or Ikoyi though this is great if you can afford it. but It is better to ''start low and go slow ''while you build up your experience AND EXPERTISE about the peculiar real estate situation in Nigeria .

4. There will always be some associated risks i.e fake documents., omoonile and so on . Business is risk .the point here is to try and contain your risks and manage them as much as possible for example by employing SUITABLY QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED professionals and to ask questions and try to clarify as much as possible before parting with your  hard earned cash /money especially in the current credit crunch climate .

5 Do not get too 'emotionally ' attached to  a piece of real Estates until you have all the facts!!!

6. 'Real Estates' is a Heterogeneous sector . Determine your own niche and try to refine this ,you can not realistically master everything

7. On a pospositivete this is the only sector where  even if you make genuine mistakes you can still recover from this!


8. Dont forget that it is a 'fundamental principle' in Real Estates  that most of your profit is made when you buy locking i n Instant Equity than when you sell . This is another reason to try and buy cheap as much as is possible

9. Finally by virtue of the Land Tenure system currently operating in Nigeria you can not 100% prevent the issue of Government Land acqusition but can minimise this.

10.Being a buy to let Investor in Europe and UK MYSELF I CAN CONFIRM THAT THE REAL ESTATE SECTOR IN NIGERIA STILL HAS A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES BUT HAS TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR .
