Nigerian Man Builds Working Helicopters from Junk

A 24-year-old undergraduate from Nigeria is building helicopters out of old car and bike parts. Mubarak Muhammed Abdullahi, a physics student, spent eight months building the yellow model seen here, using the money he makes from repairing cellphones and computers. While some of the parts have been sourced from a crashed 747, the chopper contains all sorts of surprises.

The 12-meter-long aircraft, which has never flown above a height of seven feet, is powered by a secondhand 133 horsepower engine from a Honda Civic. In the basic cockpit there are two Toyota car seats, with a couple more in the cabin behind. Controls are simple, with an ignition button, an accelerator lever to control vertical thrust and a joystick that provides balance and bearing. A camera beneath the chopper connected to a small screen on the dash gives the pilot ground vision, and he communicates via a small transmitter.

Mubarak says he learned the basics of helicopter flying through the internet after he decided it would be easier to build a chopper than a car. Flying his creation is easy, he claims. “You start it, allow it to run for a minute or two and you then shift the accelerator forward and the propeller on top begins to spin,” he explains. “The further you shift the accelerator the faster it goes and once you reach 300 rpm you press the joystick and it takes off.”

Undeterred that his home-made transporter, which lives in a hangar on campus, lacks the gear to measure atmospheric pressure, altitude and humidity, Mubarak is working on a new machine which “will be a radical improvement on the first one in terms of sophistication and aesthetics.”

A two-seater with the ability to fly at 15 feet for three hours at a time, Mubarak’s new creation will be powered by a brand-new motor straight from Taiwan, normally found in motorbikes.

PoliticsQuestions For Sanusi Lamido On The New Naira Currency Policy by bilms(op): 3:04pm On Sep 03, 2012
When it comes to economic matters,i may be an illiterate, but my illiteracy on that subject matter doesn't take away my ordinary reasoning.

These questions arise from the responses of The CBN governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamide to the question a Nigerian asked him via the phone.

According to the response of the CBN governor in a post titled My Conversation with SLS on the New Currency Policy on naira land forum. According to the writer (suraj), he said he spoke with Sanusi Lamido on the issue.

Suraj: sir. I just needed your clarifications on some of the issues my friends have been inundating me on this CBN new policy. First, don't you think it is counterproductive that at this time that we are advocating cashless Nigeria, we are introducing another currency, a higher one, N5000.

SLS: See, Suraj. It is not. First, know that this is not a monetary policy but just currency management. Our cashless policy never says there should not be any cash at all. It only discourages heavy cash in the system. Whether in N5 notes or N5000 notes, the limit of N500,000 will still be N500,000. So what are we saying? It also enhances operational efficiencies. The number of times banks load their ATM machines will also reduce. Banks can now load up to 5 times the value in their ATM and reduces rate of stocking and associated costs. The cost of printing and managing currency will also reduce. We

My Question for SLS: If our cashless policy never says there should not be any cash at all,it only discourages heavy cash in the system..Dont you think that the new N500 note and the coin being introduce side by side with the note of N5,N10 etc would contradict the discouragement of heavy cash in the system? According the information I heard, the maximum a bank's cash officer can load in any ATM is 2million. Anything above that is at the risk of the cash officer and that amount is the maximum NDIC can cover in the event ATM theft should arise.

So the issue of loading more money into the ATM doesn't arise here......unless that policy is reviewed.

Suraj (cut in): But sir, don't you think this will ease corruption and movement of funds among our politicians?

SLS: Well, is there no corruption now that there are no N5000 denomination? It is not the duty of CBN to fight corruption among political class, you know. We are trying our best to block all holes of corruption, but that doesn't stop CBN from introducing a currency management policy that it deems fit. Fighting corruption is the work of EFCC, Police etc

My Question for SLS: I agree with SLS that it is not the duty of the CBN to fight corruption, but i disagree with him that is there no corruption now that there are no N5000 denomination? Yes there is...But don't you think introducing this new note would increase the corrupt tendencies? Just like the EFCC,the CBN is also a part of the government seeking solution to our national financial challenges which corruption is a major setback, don’t you think that every policy to be introduced by the CBN is suppose to put guiding against corrupt tendencies first in its consideration?

Suraj: What of this scenario: an item that is worth say N4, 800 will be forced to be rounded up to N5000?.

SLS: But we have not phased out N1000, N500, and N200 now? So you mean it is only N5000 you can use to pay for a N4800 good? How have you been paying before? (Laughter)

On coins, Suraj, at CBN we are forward-looking. Look, in the next few years, even when I must have left as governor, people will look back and realize this is a good policy. We are looking at not only currency management but also modernization. A time will come, in very near future, when we will be paying tolls, paying for newspaper vending, with just coins at vending machine points. That is why we are promoting coin culture now.

My question for SLS: Why do we need coin to pay for tolls, newspaper vending? What is wrong with paying with the note? How can paying toll gate fee with coin improve our system? What does it contribute to the discouragement of heavy cash in the system as the CBN stated?

SLS: Also note that, we are not cancelling the notes. We are introducing the coins side by side. So you will still have N20 notes, for example, with N20 coins, until it gains acceptability.

My question for SLS: If the CBN said it is discouraging heavy cash flow in the system, yet it is introducing new note N5k, introducing coins of N5, N10, N20, N50 etc without withdrawing the previous once, it would also be reproducing the previous note along side with the new coins, how has it discourage the heavy cash flow by bringing in more cash to the system? I really care to know as i am an illustrate on this subject.

Sharia is a good law at times because it doesn't waste time and it believes in the principle of 'an eye for an eye'. Under Sharia, the killers of Cynthia Osokogu, those devil-incarnated abusers of facebook would have been killed by now. I wonder what our conventional law is still waiting for.

I saw this and i think i should share it here.

In honour of our dear 1st lady,
A PRINCIPAL IN A SECONDARY SCHOOL WARNED THE STUDENTS TO STOP WRITING ON THE PAINTED WALLS OF THE SCHOOL, especially when they are awaiting the visit of JONA. JONA later visited the following week and after supervision, he decided to test the academic ability of the students:
JONA: What class are you in?
STUDENT: SS III
JONA: Are you a science or art student?
STUDENT: Arts student sir
JONA: Good…w
ho wrote
Things Fall Apart?
STUDENT: Sir, please it was not me that wrote it, I swear! I did not write any Things Fall Apart.
In annoyance, JONA went back to the principal)
PRINCIPAL: You are still around?
JONA: Yes, I came back because a student in SS III could not tell me the person that wrote Things fall Apart when I asked him.
PRINCIPAL : Forget them, that is how they go about writing all sorts of rubbish, I will make sure that I fish-out whoever that wrote Things Fall Apart and he will be severely punished.
In utmost dismay, JONA departed the office)
AT HOME
PATIE: Darling, you look worried. Anything the matter?
JONA: I am ok, I am just pondering on the downward slide in education in this country, could you believe that a student in SS III could not tell me the person that wrote Things Fall Apart, even the principal does not know
PATIE: It is your enemies that wrote it, don’t mind them, that is how they go about writing all sorts of petition against you, don't worry, God will judge them!
.good morning fellow Nigerians, may our 1st lady be heal and return back in sound condition, amen.

Okorocha offers employment to all qualified physically challenged citizens

The governor of Imo state, Mr Rochas Okorocha has offered employment to all qualified physically challenged citizens in the state.

The newly employed will be joining the government’s pay roll in the state’s ministries, agencies and local government offices

During a meeting with physically challenged citizens at the Ikemba Ojukwu memorial centre in Owerri the governor noted that his administration is willing to partner with the physically challenged people in the state to move his rescue mission agenda for the state to a different level.

He also noted that the state government will immediately embark on the establishment of special skills acquisition centres for the uneducated ones so they can be trained in various productive skills.

This is the second time the governor met with the physically challenged persons in the state since his inauguration as the governor of Imo state.

Hundreds of physically challenged persons from across the 27 local government area of the state gathered at the Ikemba Ojukwu Memorial Centre for a special session with the governor.

The governor charged them to be more productive and imbibe a sense of belonging in their day to day affairs in the state noting that every disability in them is an advantage and a gift from god.

There was a resounding joy when the governor announced the immediate and automatic employment of all the qualified physically challenged citizens into all the ministries, agencies and local government offices across the state.

Meanwhile as they commended the governor for his kind gesture, some of them still thinks the governor should also establish a school for the blind because Imo state is the only state in the south east without a school for the blind.

The governor also appointed a special adviser who will handle matters relating to the physically challenged citizens.
