Those Muslims, who kill other people in the name of protesting a blasphemy against our noble prophet (Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W) are indeed worst than those whom they are supposedly protesting about. Those who created the blasphemy films are probably enjoying themselves, while they stupidly kill innocent people in the name of defending the prophet and islam. Even if they were to kill the real actors being the blasphemy film,it is still sinful and wrong for them to take such action, only Allah is the ultimate judge who would repay the deed of all human. point of note: those who kill other people for what ever reason would face the wrath of the Almighty, for they have taken a life they can not create, this is the message preached by the noble prophet of Allah. I strongly condemn this act of cowardice, stupidity, ignorance and destruction of both life and property. I hereby advice all Muslims to defend Islam with good action, knowledge, teaching and practice of act of righteousness. Be kind to your neighbors, friends and even your enemies for Allah is powerful enough to through your kindness, turn your assumed enemy to become your friend. |

Female Robber Nabbed in Abuja. I am totally against the treatment of this young lady,They should have handed her to the police instead of stripping her naked in this manner. This is inhuman and must be condemned. She led a team of robbers in a car to rob a female passenger like her. Luck ran out of her as probing eyes watched from a distance the operation and sympathizers swooped on them rescuing the victim who was later Identified as Obiageli. This lady was apprehended out of the five of the thieves as she could not escape, thinking phonetics would save her while others ran away. Her unclothedness was the price she had to pay. Inside the ash coloured Nissan Sunny, were loads of ATM cards, Passports of various persons and her bag contained "many phone" an eyewitness said. This incident happened at the AREA 11 TRAFFIC LIGHT where they were held by traffic as they were been chased. It happend today, at about 2:00pm.... LADIESSSSSSSSSSSSS, LONG THROAT WILL GET YOU INTO TROUBLE O.... A WORD IS ENOUGH FOR THE WISE... |

the reporter who wrote this report should be questioned for being lazy to investigate and get the details, this report is misleading. Infact, the police need to be commended for confronting the challenge. They tried, but the robbers had superior arms. |
THE BIG 4 PAYING 'PS' IN NIGERIA…POLITICS, POLICING, PUBLIC SERVICE, AND THEN PASTORING… QUADRUPED OF THE NATION’S UNDERDEVELOPMENT LAW MEFOR The way politics, policing, public service, and then pastoring pay is directly proportional to the underdevelopment of the nation and providing the quadruped upon which the nation’s underdevelopment stands erect and sustained. Correct me if i am right... P1) POLITIC S…our brand of politics is an elite conspiracy consciously aimed at sapping the economy, adding nothing of value and therefore only immobilizing the nation. To sustain the unproductive, mean-spirited political and public officers in Nigeria, the nation sinks up to N1.5 trillion annually. They will continue to bleed the country if nothing is done to address the cost of running government in Nigeria. And because it will take the National And State Assemblies voting, this may never happen anytime soon. P2) POLICING ….this entails every aspect of national security, not just the Nigerian police. Without security no development can ever happen. More importantly, sane societies are built on rule of law so that might is never allowed to be right and people forced to resort to self-help as is our case today. But in our case what do you get? Every crime has a price, including murder and armed robbery; culprits pay the security operatives and prosecution just dies a natural death. Case is struck out for lack of diligent prosecution and nobody suffers for not doing his/her job of prosecution. The Officer smiles to bank while the society decays. This in itself reinforces crime and criminality, as criminals know they will be free once they pay the correct amount. Even the so-called plea bargain is a form of crime against the society. P3) PUBLIC SERVICE …public service is the engine of corruption in partnership with the banks. Public servants are now contractors and live in opulence and EFCC looks the other way, claiming to be fighting corruption. Public servants connive with the banks to launder money and to clear ghost salaries and mope up votes at the end of the year. Public servants in Nigeria are worse than the police we all see as most corrupt. How much do they collect anyway? N20 while the public servants collect up to 50% of contract sums and allow contact executions to go down the drain for doing so. In most cases they award the contracts to their coys or coys they front. P4) PASTORING… Pastoring of all hues including orthodox priests (because they too are pastors) have encouraged corruption by preaching miracle and automatic riches for merely believing; they have also encouraged corruption by condoning it. When they make a known rogue or civil servant a knight/elder or give such a person front pew in the church/mosque for donating millions they know was obtained by stealing, what do they think they are doing? The way the church has treated corrupt Nigerians has fueled the stealing of government funds in large lumps. Until something drastic is done to address these 4 monsters development of Nigeria will remain a pipe dream…may not happen in our lifetime. |
http://www.globalresearch.ca/us-backed-terrorists-murder-us-ambassador-in-libya/ US-Backed Terrorists Murder US Ambassador in Libya Murdered US Ambassador exposes Libya "progress" propaganda - provides a warning against US meddling in Syria “I have met with these brave fighters, and they are not Al-Qaeda. To the contrary: They are Libyan patriots who want to liberate their nation. We should help them do it.” – Senator John McCain in Benghazi, Libya April 22, 2011. …. McCain’s “Libyan patriots” have now murdered US Ambassador John Christopher Stevens in the very city McCain spoke these words. An assault on the American consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi, the epicenter of not only last year’s violent subversion and destruction of sovereign Libya, but a decade’s old epicenter of global terrorism, left Ambassador Stevens dead along with two of his aides. The violence, Western media claims, stems from an anti-Islamic film produced in the US. In reality, the coordinated nature of the attacks on both the US Embassy in Libya, as well as its embassy in Cairo, Egypt, on the 11th anniversary of 9/11, are most likely using the Neo-Conservative Clarion Fund-esque propaganda film as a false pretense for violence long-planned. The Clarion Fund regularly produces anti-Muslim propaganda, like “Iranium,” specifically to maintain a strategy of tension using fear and anger to drive a wedge between Western civilization and Islam to promote perpetual global wars of profit. Image: Senator John McCain in the terrorist rat nest of Benghazi after marshaling cash, weapons, and political support for militants tied directly to Al Qaeda. McCain’s insistence that the terrorists he helped arm and install into power were “not Al Qaeda” runs contra to the US Army’s own reports which state that Benghazi’s terror brigades officially merged with Al Qaeda in 2007. McCain’s “Libyan patriots” have now killed US Ambassador Stevens with RPG’s most likely procured with cash and logistic networks set up by NATO last year, part of a supranational terror campaign that includes violently subverting Syria – a campaign McCain also supports. NATO Knowingly Handed Libya to Al Qaeda Indeed, the US Army’s West Point Combating Terrorism Center (CTC) noted that Benghazi and the neighboring city of Darnah served a disproportionately high role in supplying foreign fighters to wage terror against the people of Iraq and Afghanistan – foot soldiers brought in to fuel a destructive and divisive sectarian war that undermined a united Sunni-Shi’ia resistance to Western troops who had invaded. Image: In Benghazi, in front of the very courthouse McCain and other representatives of the West’s corporate-financier driven foreign policy voiced support for Libya’s terror brigades, sectarian extremists took the streets waving the flag of Al Qaeda, even hoisting it atop the Benghazi courthouse itself. Despite a concerted effort by Western media houses to portray Libya as in the hands of progressive democratic secularists, the country was intentionally handed over to extremists to serve as a base of militancy to destabilize and destroy targets of Western interest around the word. …. The men McCain was defending were Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) militants, terrorists linked directly with Al Qaeda according to West Point reports (.pdf), and listed to this day by the US State Department, the UK Home Office (.pdf), and the UN as a “foreign terrorist organization.” McCain was not only rhetorically supporting listed terrorists, but calling for material support including weapons, funds, training, and air support in direct violation of USC § 2339A & 2339B, “providing material support or resources to designated foreign terrorist organizations.” These same terrorists are now not only the defacto rulers of much of Libya, but are leading death squads in Syria and arming militants in Mali, an exponential expansion made possible by a non-partisan effort including Republicans and Democrats, as well as Bush-era Neo-Conservatives who concurrently lead both anti-Islam propaganda while leading calls to arm the most radical sectarian extremist groups, including groups directly affiliated with Al Qaeda. Syria is Next Not only has US policy been exposed as not “promoting democracy” but purposefully spreading destabilization, violence, and terrorism, but the exact same militants behind the death of the US’ own ambassador are literally leading US efforts to visit the same violence, destabilization, and chaos upon Syria. Reuters, in their article, “Libyan fighters join Syrian revolt,” reported, that Mahdi al-Harati, “a powerful militia chief from Libya’s western mountains,” who is actually a militant of the US, British, and UN listed terrorist organization Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), “now leads a unit in Syria, made up mainly of Syrians but also including some foreign fighters, including 20 senior members of his own Libyan rebel unit.” Reuters would go on to explain, “the Libyans aiding the Syrian rebels include specialists in communications, logistics, humanitarian issues and heavy weapons,” and that they “operate training bases, teaching fitness and battlefield tactics.” Image: Libyan Mahdi al-Harati of the US State Department, United Nations, and the UK Home Office (page 5, .pdf)-listed terrorist organization, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), addressing fellow terrorists in Syria. Harati is now commanding a Libyan brigade operating inside of Syria attempting to destroy the Syrian government and subjugate the Syrian population. Traditionally, this is known as “foreign invasion.” …. Reuters concedes that the ongoing battle has nothing to do with democracy, but instead is purely a sectarian campaign aimed at “pushing out” Syria’s minorities, perceived to be “oppressing” “Sunni Muslims.” Reuters’ propaganda piece is rounded off with a Libyan terrorist allegedly threatening that “the militancy would spread across the region as long as the West does not do more to hasten the downfall of Assad,” a talking point plucked straight from the halls of America’s corporate-financier funded think-tanks. In fact, just such a think-tank, the Foreign Policy Initiative, recently published a statement signed by Bush-era Neo-Conservatives stating: “America’s national security interests are intertwined with the fate of the Syrian people and the wider region. Indeed, Syria’s escalating conflict now threatens to directly affect the country’s neighbors, including Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Israel, and could provide an opening for terrorist groups like al Qaeda to exploit.” Along with “War on Terror” proponent John McCain, Al Qaeda’s LIFG and America’s Neo-Con establishment are now operating in tandem, as well as in direct contradiction to a decade of “War on Terror” propaganda. It should be remembered that those who signed this statement, including Elliott Abrams, Max Boot, Ellen Bork, William Kristol, Paul Bremer, Paula Dobriansk, Douglas Feith, Robert Kagan, Clifford D. May, Stephen Rademaker, Michael Weiss, Radwan Ziadeh, were among the very engineers of the fraudulent “War on Terror” that McCain himself is such a fervent supporter of. Radwan Ziadeh, last on the list, is in fact a “Syrian National Council” member – one of several proxies the US State Department is hoping to slip into power in Syria. Russia, China, Iran, and Others Oppose Terrorism in Syria for a Reason With Libya’s “democratic progress” exposed as only tenuously covering up NATO’s creation of a nation-wide safe haven for Al Qaeda terrorists to subsequently be deployed against the West’s political enemies across he Arab World and beyond, it will be even more difficult, if not impossible to continue promoting this same “change” in Syria. Libya, through direct action of NATO, has been overrun by terrorists. Syria’s government is desperately trying to prevent its people from being likewise overrun. And even as the US buries its own ambassador, killed by terror brigades it itself armed and thrust into power through covert and direct military intervention, in a nation now wrecked by sectarian and tribal infighting, it insists on replicating its “success” in Syria. Russia, China, Iran, and a growing number of nations have been opposing this campaign of supranational terrorism – with the death of Ambassador Stevens laying bare the true nature of America’s proxy “freedom fighters,” the list of global opposition will only grow, leaving only the most shameless and deeply invested to defend America’s invasive and bloody foreign policy. |

800 firms closed shop in 2 years – Chamber of Commerce Asaba – The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) has said that no fewer than 800 companies in Nigeria closed shop between 2009 and 2011 due to harsh operating business environment. Dr Herbert Ajayi, President of NACCIMA, gave the figure on Tuesday in Asaba in a paper he presented at a zonal workshop on economic diversification organised by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). Ajayi said that more than half of the “surviving” firms had been classified as “ailing’’, a situation, he said, posed a great threat to the survival of the manufacturing industry. He added that capacity utilisation in industries hovered around 30 per cent and 45 per cent on the average, with 100 per cent overhead costs. He blamed the continued decline in the manufacturing sectors on “political and economic factors’’, citing poor infrastructure and epileptic power supply as key impediments to the industry. “The manufacturing industry as a whole operates on more than 70 per cent of energy it generates; using generators and operating these generators greatly increases the cost of manufacturing goods,’’ he said. The industrialist gave other reasons for the woes in the sector as incessant increase in the price of petroleum products used by industries, multiple taxation, unabated smuggling and inadequate access to finance, both local and abroad. According to him, widespread insecurity and the inability of government agencies in the ports to meet its 24-hour target for cargo clearance have contributed to the dwindling fortunes in the manufacturing sector. The NACCIMA president, whose speech was delivered by Mrs Mary Iyasere, Vice President of the association, described current government policies to revive the manufacturing industry as inadequate. I guess Sanusi Lamido i getting confused economically. CBN Governor Sanusi said that President OBJ is a successful farmer but a bad economist. Wondering if agriculture is not part of the economy. Sanusi further argued that OBJ introduced more higher denominations than any former leader of Nigeria and that introducing N5000 notes was nothing different. I am more confused by this explanation as Sanusi said OBJ's economic policies were bad and he is seeking to do what OBJ did again. Does it make sense to feel that OBJ's counsel may be from experience? What is the goal of the new higher denomination? More money, cashless economy or higher standard of living by citizens? Now that our Paralympians have proven to be our real heroes- and face saving Champions, don't you think they should be celebrated like they deserved? We need to start celebrating our bests, whoever, whatever and wherever they are. |
FREE HAJJ SEATS - A LIFE-TIME BRIBE - SHARED CRIME IN THE NAME OF RELIGION! The season is here again, politicians are showing how gratitude they are to their accomplice by depriving them basic amenities in their communities but offering them flight tickets to Hajj & Jerusalem simply to be named ALHAJI/HAJIYA & JP. Billions of Naira enough to revive our economy and create opportunities to majority so that they can honourably seek God's reward & forgiveness on their own. If truly the gesture is accepted by God, the number of prayers offered so far by those thousands beneficiaries, should be enough to avert all the calamities befalling the North & Nigeria. Stop deceiving ourselves, we MUST account for all public funds spent under political game. THESE ARE DELIBERATE EFFORT TO MAKE PEOPLE LAZY, SETTING A PRECEDENCE THAT WILL SURELY INDUCE RELIGIOUS CRISIS AT LONG RUN. |

In journalism best practice,a balance is required. The speech of President Barack Obama has been on this forum, that of Michelle Obama also featured,Bill Clinton also added his voice. I do think that the equation would not be balance without featuring speeches in favor of the other contestant Mitt Romney. The following is a transcript of Mitt Romney's speech, in which he accepts the GOP presidential nomination, at the Republican National Convention on Aug. 30, 2012. SPEAKER: FORMER GOV. MITT ROMNEY, R-MASS., PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE ROMNEY: Thank you. Mr. Chairman, and delegates, I accept your nomination for president of the United States. (APPLAUSE) I do so with humility, deeply moved by the trust you've placed in me. It's a great honor. It's an even greater responsibility. I ask you to walk together to a better future. By my side I have chosen a man with a big heart from a small town. (APPLAUSE) He represents the best of America. A man who will always make us very proud. My friend and America's next vice-president, Paul Ryan. (APPLAUSE) In the days ahead, you will get to know Paul and Janna better. But, last night America got to see what I saw in Paul Ryan, a strong and caring leader who is down to earth and confidence in the challenge this moment demands. I love the way he lights up around his kids. And how he's not embarrassed to show the world how much he loves his mom. (APPLAUSE) But Paul, I still like the playlist on my Ipod better than yours. (APPLAUSE) Four years ago, I know that many Americans felt a fresh excitement about the possibilities of a new president. That choice was not the choice of our party, but Americans always come together after elections. We're a good and generous people, and we are united by so much more than what divides us. When that election was over, when the yard signs came down and the television commercials finally came off the air, Americans were eager to go back to work, to live our lives the way Americans always have, optimistic and positive and confident in the future. That very optimism is uniquely American. It's what brought us to America. We're a nation of immigrants, we're the children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the ones who wanted a better life. The driven ones. The ones who woke up at night, hearing that voice telling them that life in a place called America could be better. They came, not just in pursuit of the riches of this world, but for the richness of this life. Freedom, freedom of religion, freedom to speak their mind, freedom to build a life and, yes, freedom to build a business with their own hands. (APPLAUSE) This is the essence of the American experience. We Americans have always felt a special kinship with the future. When every new wave of immigrants looked up and saw the Statue of Liberty, or knelt down and kissed the shores of freedom, just 90 miles from Castro's tyranny, these new Americans sure had many questions, but none doubted that here in America they could build a better life. That in America, their children would be blessed more than they. But, today, four years from the excitement of that last election, for the first time the majority of Americans now doubt that our children will have a better future. That is not what we were promised. Every family in America wanted this to be a time when they could get a little ahead, put aside a little more for college, do more for the elderly mom that's now living alone. Or give a little more to their church or their charity. Every small business wants to have this be their best year ever, when they could hire more, do more for those who had stuck with them through hard times. Open a new store, sponsor that little league team. Every new college graduate thought they'd have a good job by now. A place for their own. They could start paying back some of their loans and build for the future. This is what our nation was supposed to start paying down the national debt, and rolling back massive deficits. This was the hope and change America voted for. It is not just what we wanted, it is not just what we expected, it is what Americans deserved. (APPLAUSE) (AUDIENCE MEMBERS): U.S.A., U.S.A. ROMNEY: You deserved it because you worked harder than ever before during these years. You deserved it because, when it cost more to fill up your car, you cut out moving lights, and put in longer hours. Or when you lost that job that paid $22.50 an hour, benefits, you took two jobs at $9 an hour (APPLAUSE) (AUDIENCE MEMBERS): U.S.A., U.S.A. You deserve it because your family depended on you. And you did it because you are an American, and you don't quit. You did it because that was because it was because you had to do. The driving home late from that second job, or standing there and watching the gas pump hit $50 and still going. When the realtor told you that to sell your house you'd have to take a big loss on your house. In those moments, you knew that this just was not right. But what could you do except work harder, do with less, try to stay optimistic, hug your kids a little longer, maybe spend more time praying tomorrow would be a better day. I wish President Obama had succeeded, because I want America to succeed. (APPLAUSE) But his promises gave way to disappointment and division. This isn't something we have to accept. Now is the moment when we can do something. And with your help, we will do something. (APPLAUSE) Now is the moment where we can stand up and say, ``I am an American, I make my destiny, we deserve better, my children deserve better, my family deserves better, my country deserves better.'' (APPLAUSE) So here we stand. Americans have a choice, a decision. To make that choice, you need to know more about me and where I'd lead at our country. I was born in the middle of the century, in the middle of the country, the classic baby boomer. It was a time when Americans were returning from war and eager to work. To be an American was to assume that all things were possible. When President Kennedy challenged Americans to go to the moon, the challenge was not whether we would get there, it was only when we'd get there. (APPLAUSE) The soles of Neil Armstrong's on the moon made permanent impressions on our souls. ROMNEY: And I watched those steps together on her parents sofa. Like all American is, we went to bed at night knowing we lived in the greatest country in the history of the world. (APPLAUSE) God bless Neil Armstrong. (APPLAUSE) Tonight, that American flag is still there on the Moon. and I don't doubt for a second that Neil Armstrong's spirit is still with us. That unique blend of optimism, humility, and the utter confidence that, when the world needs someone to do that, you need an American. (APPLAUSE) My dad had been born in Mexico. And his family had to leave during the Mexican revolution. I grew up with stories of his family being fed by the U.S. government as war refugees. My dad never made it through college, and he apprenticed as a laugh (ph) and plaster carpenter. He had big dreams. He convinced my mom, a beautiful young actress, to give up Hollywood to marry him. And moved to Detroit. (APPLAUSE) He led a great automobile company and became governor of the great state of Michigan. (APPLAUSE) We were -- we were Mormons . And growing up in Michigan, that might have seemed unusual or out of place, but I do not remember it that way. My friends cared more about what sports teams we followed that what church went to. My mom and dad gave their kids the greatest gift of all. The gift of unconditional love. They cared deeply about who we would be and much less about what we would do. Unconditional love is a gift that Ann and I have tried to to pass on to our sons and now to our children. All the laws and legislation is in the world will never heal the world like the loving hearts and arms of loving mothers and fathers. (APPLAUSE) You know, if every child could go to sleep feeling araft (ph) in the love of their family and God's love, this world would be a far more gentle place. (APPLAUSE) My mom and dad were married for 64 years . And if you wondered what their secret was, you could have asked the local florist. (APPLAUSE) Because every day, dad gave mom a Rose, which he put on the bedside table. That is how she found that the day my father died. She went looking for him because, that morning, there was no rose. My mom and dad were two partners. A life lesson that shaped me by everyday example. When my mom ran for the Senate, my dad was there for her every step of the way. I can still see her as saying in her beautiful voice, ``why should women have any less safe than men about the great decisions facing our nation? -- great decisions facing our nation?'' (APPLAUSE) Don't you wish you could have been here at this convention and heard leaders like Governor Mary Fallin, Governor Nikki Haley, Governor Susana Martinez, Senator Kay Alieanos (ph), Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice? (APPLAUSE) As governor of Massachusetts, I -- I chose a woman lieutenant governor, a woman chief of staff. Half of my cabinet and senior officials were women. And in business, and mentored and supported great women leaders who went on to run great companies. I grew up in Detroit, in love with cars. And wanted to be a car guy like my dad. But, by the time I was out of school I realized that I had to go out on my own. That if I stayed around Michigan in the same business I'd never really now if I was getting a break because of my dad. I wanted to go someplace new and prove myself. Those weren't the easiest of days. Many long hours, and weekends working. Five young sons who seemed to have a need to reenact a different world war every night. (LAUGHTER) But if you ask Ann and I, what we'd give to break up just one more fight between the boys, or wake up in the morning and discover a pile of kids asleep in a room -- well every mom and dad knows the answer to that. Those days were the... (APPLAUSE) ... these were tough days on Ann, particularly. She was heroic through it all. Five boys with our families a long way away. I had to travel a lot for my job then, and I'd call and try to offer support. But every mom knows that that does not help did the homework done or get the kids out the door to school. I knew that her job as a mom was harder than mine. I knew without question that her job as a mom was a lot more important than mine. (APPLAUSE) And as America saw Tuesday night, Ann would have succeed at anything she wanted to do. (APPLAUSE) Like a lot of families in a new place with no family, we found kinship with a wide circle of friends through our church. When we were new to the community, it was welcoming, and as the years went by, it was a joy to help others who had just moved into town or just joined our church. We had remarkably vibrant endeavors congregations from all walks of life, and many who were new to America. We prayed together, our kids played together, and we always stood ready to help each other out in different ways. That's how it is in America. We look to our communities, our faiths, our families, for our joy and support, in good times and bad. It's both how we live our lives and why we live our lives. The strength and power and goodness of America has always been based on the strength and power and goodness of our communities, our families, and our faiths. (APPLAUSE) That's the bedrock of what makes America America. In our best days, we can feel the vibrancy of America's communities, large and small. It's when we see that new business opening up downtown. It's when we go to work in the morning and see everybody else in the block doing the same thing to read when our son or daughter calls from college to talk about which job offer they should take, and you try not to choke up when you hear that the one they like best is not too far from home. It's that good feeling when you have more time to volunteer to coach for you kids soccer team or help out on school trips. For too many Americans, those kind of good days are harder to come by. How many days have you woken up feeling that something really special was happening in America? Many of you thought the way on election day four years ago. Hope and change had a powerful appeal. But tonight I would ask a simple question: if you felt that excitement when you voted for Barack Obama, shouldn't feel that way now, that he is President Obama? (APPLAUSE) You know there is something wrong with the kind of job he has done as president when the best feeling you had was the day you voted for him. (APPLAUSE) The president has not disappointed you because he wanted to. The president has disappointed America because he hasn't lead America in the right direction. He took office without the basic qualification that most Americans have, and one that was essential to the task at hand. He had almost no experience working in a business. Jobs to him are about government. (APPLAUSE) I learned the real lessons from how America works from experience. When I was 37, I helped to start a small company. My partners and I had been working for a company that was in the business of helping other businesses. So some of us have the idea that, if we really believe our advice was helping companies, we should invest in companies. We should bet on ourselves and our advice. So we started a new business called Bain Capital. The only problem was, while we believed in ourselves, not many other people did. We were young and had never done this before, and We almost did not get off the ground. In those days, sometimes I wondered if I had made a really big mistake. By the way, I thought about asking my church's pension fund to invest, but I didm't. (LAUGHTER) I figured it was bad enough that I might lose my investors' money, but I did not want to go to hell, too. (LAUGHTER) Shows what I know. Another of my partners got the Episcopal church Pension Fund to invest. And today there are a lot of happy retired priests who should thank him. (APPLAUSE) That business we started with 10 people has now grown into a great American success story. Some of the companies we helped start are names you know you've have heard from tonight. An office company called Staples, where I'm pleased to see the Obama campaign has been shopping. (APPLAUSE) The Sports Authority, which of course became a favorite of my boys. We helped start an early childhood learning company called Bright Horizons that First Lady Michelle Obama rightly praised. And at a time when nobody thought we'd ever see a new steel mill built in America, we took a chance and build one in the cornfield in Indiana. (APPLAUSE) Today, Steel Dynamics is one of the largest steel producers in the United States. These are American success stories. And yet the centerpiece of the president's entire reelection campaign is attacking success. Is it any wonder that someone who attacks success has led the worst economic recovery since the Great Depression? (APPLAUSE) In America, we celebrate success. We don't apologize for success. (APPLAUSE) Now we weren't always successful at Bain, but no one ever is in the real world of business. That's what this president does not seem to understand. Business and growing jobs is about taking risk, sometimes failing, sometimes succeeding, but always striving. It's about dreams. Usually it doesn't work out exactly as you might have imagined. Steve Jobs was fired at Apple, and then he came back and changed the world. It's the genius of the American free enterprise system to harness the extraordinary creativity, and talent and industry of the American people with a system that's dedicated to creating tomorrow's prosperity, not trying to redistribute today's. (APPLAUSE) That's why every president since the Great Depression who came before the American people asking for a second term could look back at the last four years and say with satisfaction, ``You're are better off than you were four years ago.'' Except Jimmy Carter. And except this president. (APPLAUSE) This president can ask us to be patient. This president can tell us it was someone else's fault. This president can tell us that the next four years will get it right. But this president cannot tell us that you're better off today than when he took office. (APPLAUSE) America has been patient. Americans have supported this president in good faith, but today the time has come the time to turn the page. Today the time has come for us to put the disappointments of the last four years behind us, to put aside the divisiveness and the recriminations, to forget about what might have been, and to look ahead to what can be. Now is the time to restore the promise of America. (APPLAUSE) Many Americans have given up on this president, but they haven't ever thought of giving up, not on themselves, not on each other, and not on America. What is needed in our country is not complicated or profound. It doesn't take a special government commission to tell us what America needs. What America needs is jobs, lots of jobs. (APPLAUSE) In the richest country in the history of the world, this Obama economy has crushed the middle class. Family income has fallen by $4,000 , but health insurance premiums are higher. Food prices are higher. Utility bills are higher, and gasoline prices, they've doubled. Today more Americans wake up in poverty than ever before. Nearly one out of six Americans is living in poverty. Look around you -- these aren't strangers. These are our brothers and sisters, our fellow Americans. His policies have not helped create jobs. They've depressed them, and this I can tell you about where President Obama would take America. His plan to put taxes on small businesses won't not add jobs. It will eliminate them. (APPLAUSE) His assault on coal and gas and oil will send energy and manufacturing jobs to china. (APPLAUSE) His trillion dollar cuts to our military will eliminate hundreds of thousands of jobs and also put our security at greater risk. (LAUGHTER) His $716 billion cut to Medicare to finance Obamacare will hurt today's seniors and depress innovation in jobs and medicines. And his trillion dollar deficits, they slow our economy, restrain employment, and cause wages to stall. To the majority of Americans who now believe the future will not be better than the past, I can guarantee you this -- if Barack Obama is reelected, you will be right. (APPLAUSE) I am running for president to help create a better future, a future where everyone who wants a job can find a job, where no senior fears for the security of their retirement, an America where every parent knows that their child will get an education that leads to a good job and a bright horizon, and unlike the president, I have a plan to create 12 million new jobs. (APPLAUSE) Paul ryan and I have five steps. First, by 2020, North America will be an energy independent by taking invented of our oil, are coal, our gas, our nuclear, and renewables. (APPLAUSE) Second, we will give our fellow citizens the skills they need for the jobs of today and the careers of tomorrow. When it comes to the school your child will attend, every parent should have a choice, and every child should have a chance. (APPLAUSE) Third, we will make trade work for America by forging new trade agreements, and when nations cheat in trade, there will be unmistakable consequences. (APPLAUSE) And fourth, to assure every entrepreneur and every job creator that their investments in America will not vanish, as have those in Greece. We will cut the deficit and put America on track to a balanced budget. (APPLAUSE) And fifth, we will champion small businesses, America's engine of job growth. That means reducing taxes on business, not raising them. It means simplifying and modernizing the regulations that hurt small businesses the most, and it means we must rein in skyrocketing cost of health care by repealing and replacing Obamacare. (APPLAUSE) Today women are more likely than men to start of business. They need a president who respect and understand what they do. And let me make this clear. Unlike President Obama, I will not raise taxes on the middle class of America. (APPLAUSE) As president, I'll respect the sanctity of life. I'll honor the institution of marriage. (APPLAUSE) And I will guarantee America's first liberty, the freedom of religion. (APPLAUSE) President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans. (LAUGHTER) And to heal the planet. My promises to help you and your family. (APPLAUSE) I will begin my presidency with the jobs tour. President Obama began his with an apology to our. (LAUGHTER) America he said had dictated to other nations. No, Mr. President America has feed other nations from dictators. (APPLAUSE) (AUDIENCE MEMBERS): U.S.A., U.S.A., U.S.A.. (APPLAUSE) Every American... (AUDIENCE MEMBERS): U.S.A., U.S.A., U.S.A. ROMNEY: Every American was relieved the day President Obama I gave the order and SEAL Team 6 took out Osama Bin Laden. (APPLAUSE) On another front, every American is less secure today because he has failed to slow Iran's nuclear threat. In his first TV interview as president, he said we should talk to Iran. We are still talking, and Iran's centrifuges are still spinning. President Obama has thrown allies like Israel under the bus even as he has relaxed sanctions on Castor's Cuba. He abandoned our friends in Poland by walking away from missile defense commitments (AUDIENCE MEMBERS): Boo. ROMNEY: But he's eager to give Russia's president Putin the flexibility he desires after the election. (AUDIENCE MEMBERS): Boo. ROMNEY: Under my presidency our friends will see more loyalty and Mr. Putin will see a little less flexibility and more backbone. (APPLAUSE) ROMNEY: We will honor America's Democratic ideals because a free world is a more peaceful world. This is the bipartisan foreign legacy of Truman and Reagan, and under presidency we will return to it once again. (APPLAUSE) You might have asked yourselves if these last years were really the America we want, the America that was won for us by the greatest generation. Does the America we want borrow a trillion dollars from China? Does it fail to find the jobs that are needed for 23 million and for half the kids graduating from college? Are those schools lagging behind the rest of the develolped world? And does America that we want succumb to resentment and division among Americans? The America we all know has been a story of many becoming one. United to preserve liberty, uniting to build the greatest the economy in the world, uniting to save the world from unspeakable darkness. Everywhere I go there are monuments and now for those who have given their lives for America. There is no mention of their race, their party affiliation, or what they did for a living. (APPLAUSE) They lived and died under a single flag, fighting for a single purpose. They've pledge allegiance to the United States of America. Taht America, that united America can unleash an economy that will put Americans back to work, taht will once again lead the world with innovation and productivity, and will restore every father and mother's confidence that their children's future is brighter even than the past. That American, that united America will preserve a military that's so strong no nation will ever dare to test it. (APPLAUSE) That America, that America, that united America will of uphold the consolation of rights that were endowed by our creator and codified in our Constitution. (APPLAUSE) That united America will care for the poor and sick, will honor and respect the elderly and will giving a helping hand to those in need. That America is the best within each of us. That America we want for our children. If I am elected president of these United States I will work with all my energy and soul to restore that America, to lift our eyes to a better future. That future is our destiny. That future is out there. It is waiting for us. Our children deserve it. Our nation depends on it. The peace and freedom of the world require it. And with your help we will deliver it. Let us the begin that future for Amreica tonight. Thank you so very much. May God bless you! May god bless the American people, and may God bless the United States of America! Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/08/30/transcript-mitt-romney-speech-at-rnc/#ixzz25tdQl5bb |

Members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Tuesday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, publicly declared support for Governor Olusegun Mimiko re-election bid which according to them, will enable him complete his laudable and life impacting programmes. The spokesperson of the Akure South local government area chapter of the union, Mr. Pius Ariyo, noted during their visit to the governor that pensioners in the state had enjoyed unprecedented support from the Mimiko-led government. “It is on record that the Mimiko administration immediately on assumption of office in 2009, paid about N1.4 billion backlog of pensions and gratuities to pensioners in the state,” Ariyo noted. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/pensioners-back-mimiko-s-re-election/121845/ |
UN Agency honours Mimiko Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State yesterday received the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award, the most prestigious human settlements award by the United Nations. The award for achievements and best practices in innovation; housing and slum upgrading; risk reduction and rehabilitation; urban land; legislation and governance; urban basic services and urban research and capacity development, was given at the 6th World Urban Forum at the City of Naples, Italy. In presenting the award to Mimiko, the organisation said “UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Awards is given by the United Nations in recognition for work carried out in the field of human settlements development. The aim of the award is to honour individuals and institutions who have been instrumental in improving the living conditions in urban centres around the world.” The UN-Habitat Executive Director, Dr. Joan Clos, and Italy’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Staffani di Mistura, presented the award to Mimiko. The process for the prestigious award began with the assessment of nominations and submissions followed by verification for conformity with outlined standards in August, 2012. The verified submissions were then subjected to a five-man jury of experts on human settlements and urban development for selection of the best five winning initiatives. The jury then makes recommendations to the Executive Director of the UN-Habitat with reasons, who in turns made the final selection for the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Awards. The awardees’ initiative must have been seen as impactful, transferable and open to upscaling and must among other things be innovative. Mimiko’s administration in Ondo State has in the past three years recorded remarkable success in areas such as urban community management and governance, urban waste management and sanitation, market town and intermediate city planning, youth and job creation, housing, and rural development and infrastructure rehabilitation among many achievements related to the UN-Habitat’s theme “Changing Cities, Building Opportunities” for the year 2012. Mimiko, while addressing the over 8,000 delegates and volunteers from 150 countries, said he is challenged by the honour and encouraged to do those things that will bring satisfaction to both city and rural dwellers in Ondo State. The governor, who dedicated his award to God and the people of the state, said: “Markets, housing, urban renewal and rural developments are key issues in the development model in Ondo State and we shall not relent in giving them needed focus and attention.” http://www.compassnewspaper.org/index.php/component/content/article/35-headlines/7385-un-agency-honours-mimiko |
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, there are as many as 12 candidates for the Ondo State governorship election scheduled for October 20, 2012. This is not unexpected in a state as literate and politically conscious as Ondo and in a multiparty political system like Nigeria’s. What is surprising to many informed voters is why anyone would wish to contest the position with the incumbent, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, of the Labour Party, given his sterling record of accomplishments so far. It is precisely this fact that has led voters to put a searchlight on the other contenders to find out if any of them has the political experience, the track record, the integrity and the mettle to upstage Mimiko in a free and fair election. So, let’s meet the others: Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, (Action Congress of Nigeria); Chief Olusola Oke (Peoples Democratic Party); Taye Adeuti (Allied Congress Party); Adeyemi Bolarinwa (All Nigeria Peoples Party); Ayodele Olusegun (Better Nigeria Progressive Party); Omoyele Olorunwa (Change Advocacy Party); Olusoji Ehinlawon (Congress for Progressive Change); Oladipo Lawrence (National Conscience Party); Abikanlu Olusola (National Solidarity Democratic Party); Victor Adetusin (People for Democratic Change); and Omoregha Olatunji (Progressive Peoples Alliance). Only three of the 12 candidates are considered serious contenders, partly because of their perceived stature and partly because of the relative strength of their political parties in the state. They are: Akeredolu of the ACN, Oke of the PDP and Mimiko of the LP. Akeredolu is from the Northern Senatorial District, where the ACN is considered relatively strong. However, this perception may have derived from the emergence of over 30 ACN aspirants from the area because the position was zoned there by the party leaders. Apart from a two-year stint as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State (1997-1999), Akeredolu has spent the last three decades in the service of the legal profession. Among others, he served as chairman of the Legal Aid Council and president of the Nigerian Bar Association. In recognition of these contributions, the NBA recently named its Abuja secretariat building after him. These professional accomplishments notwithstanding, Akeredolu is a complete novice in partisan politics. Oke is from former Governor Olusegun Agagu’s Southern Senatorial District, where the PDP is considered relatively strong because of the former governor. Like Akeredolu, Oke is also a lawyer. However, unlike him, he has been a partisan politician for the past two decades, during which he was either running for political office or holding a political appointment. True, he was elected to the shortlived House of Representatives in 1992, but his election to the Senate in 2007 was nullified by the Supreme Court. Mimiko, from the Central Senatorial District, has a much more robust political resume than the other two put together. As a medical doctor, he, too, is a consumate professional. But his interest in partisan politics dates back to over three decades, including his student days at the University of Ife, where I was teaching at the time. His services to Ondo State also have a long history. Besides serving as a medical officer, he served twice as Commissioner for Health; once as the Secretary to the State Government; and he is completing his first term as governor. In addition, he has served the Federal Government as minister. In Ondo today, Mimiko’s popularity and that of the LP are fused. This was tested in the 2011 elections when the LP swept all the state and federal legislative seats across the state, except just one. The endorsements for his second term bid derive from his meritorious services, especially as governor. The testimony of a partially blind man is instructive here. As I was interviewing fountain watchers at the new big roundabout by the First Bank junction in Akure, I noticed him being led off the fountain into his car. I followed him to his car, and the following exchange ensued: “Sir, I am a columnist for The PUNCH, and I have been interviewing people at the fountain. If you don’t mind, can you tell me about your experience there?” “Well, if you care to know, I have heard many good things about Mimiko and the wonderful job he has been doing in Ondo State. My driver told me about the fountain on our way, and I told him to stop and lead me there. I heard the splash as we approached the fountain and stretched out my hand when we got there. I found a Mimiko wonder I could touch and feel. But, mind you, I am not from Ondo State. I am only passing by.” What a blind man appreciated and other urban development projects in Akure and other big cities have been a subject of attack by the ACN and PDP campaigns, which share three common features. First, both parties continue to be remotely controlled by party leaders from outside the state. The influences of Lagos and Osogbo on the ACN are now well known. So is Abuja’s on the PDP. Hear the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, as he instructed a committee last week to go and mend fences in Ondo State, “We won’t disclose our strategies to win the election in the open. But we are determined to win.” Second, the “selection” of their candidates has been mired in controversy, featuring god-fatherism, factional endorsement and staged primaries. Consequently, some key party members have defected to the LP, while a number of others are sitting on the fence. Third, both campaigns have unleashed attacks on critics and Mimiko’s supporters. For example, Akeredolu’s campaign organisation has attacked Pofessor Kole Omotosho; Dr. Tunji Abayomi; Dr. Olu Agunloye; Dr. Fredrick Faseun; Dr. Tunji Braithwaite; and Chief Ebenezer Babatope. Oke’s campaign has also attacked many prominent citizens, including Chief Olu Falae and even members of the PDP in the state, for their dissent or support for Mimiko. This attack mentality resulted from the construction of political opponents and their supporters as enemies. The outcome is a messy struggle in which each campaign tries to stage a verbal or physical attack or defend itself. The onus is on INEC, security agencies and the electorate to ensure that the best candidate emerges victorious. http://www.punchng.com/viewpoint/meet-the-ondo-governorship-candidates/ |
