National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, on Tuesday, expressed disappointment over the ministerial nominees of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that most of the names on the list were analogue people who have nothing to contribute. The LP boss who wondered why President Buhari could not fulfill the promise he made to Nigerian youths during the electioneering campaign, said: “For us in Labour Party, we do not see anything that resembles change as far as the ministerial team is concerned. Imagine bringing someone who served in the government of the late Sarduana of Sokoto to serve as minister in 2015. “Buhari has nothing to offer Nigeria. There is no promise of change at all. All these people are analogue persons who cannot bring about any change under the current dispensation,” he said. On the fight against graft, Abdulsalam described most of those that made the Buhari team as far from the clean Nigerians being touted, adding that most of the former governors on the list are being investigated by the anti-graft agencies. “It is also very unfortunate that Nigerian youth who make up the greater percentage of our population and who voted for Buhari massively were not given their due share in the ministerial nomination,” he decried. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/buhari-has-betrayed-youths-by-assembling-analogue-ministers-lp/ lalasticlala |

Pope expels gay priest from Vatican OCTOBER 4, 2015 : AGENCY REPORT 180 COMMENTS The Vatican, on Saturday, fired a senior priest, Krzysztof Charamsa, who publicly came out as gay on the eve of a major meeting of church leaders to discuss the Church’s stance on social issues such as divorce and homosexuality. A statement by a spokesman for Pope Francis described the Polish priest’s action as “very serious and irresponsible,” adding that he would be immediately sacked from his post as a theologian in the Vatican. The statement read, “The decision to make such a pointed statement on the eve of the opening of the synod appears very serious and irresponsible, since it aims to subject the synod assembly to undue media pressure.” Charamsa, who is a mid-level official in the Vatican bureaucracy’s dealing with church doctrine, flanked by his Spanish boyfriend while donning his priest’s collar, on Saturday, had earlier told a news conference in Rome that he was compelled to speak out against the “hypocrisy and paranoia” that he said had shaped the Church’s attitude to sexual minorities. The 43-year-old priest said, “I’m out of the closet, and I’m very happy about that. I want to be an advocate for all sexual minorities and their families who have suffered in silence.” He presented a 10-point “liberation manifesto” against “institutionalised homophobia in the Church,” which he said particularly oppressed the gay men who, according to him, make up the majority of priests. He also revealed plans for a book about his 12 years at the heart of a Vatican bureaucracy, only just recovering from a scandal under previous Pope Benedict XVI over the influence of a “gay lobby” among senior clergy. |
WHAT a married woman says about her marriage is most of the time the opposite of the truth and reality of what her life is. Her mother brought her up on the ‘marriage is forever’ creed. Her pastor said ‘marriage is till death do you part’. The society insists that all divorced women are loose and lousy. What does she do between the devil and the deep blue sea? She tells everybody what they want to hear. Well, check some of these out and see if they are familiar. 1. If I come back into this world again, I’ll marry my husband over and again. The truth: Is my husband coming back to this world again? Aaarggh. God will have to choose between creating him and me. If that goat is coming back to the world, then I am definitely not coming. That way there is no likelihood of us ever meeting even for dinner, least of all marriage. I have had enough of him to last ten lifetimes. I know God is not wicked, so He won’t allow me to marry this man again. 2. My husband has never raised his hands against me. I don’t understand women who stay with men who physically abuse them. It is so crazy. The truth: Of course, it is crazy and I’m no longer sure of my own sanity. Or why else am I still here? He has removed two of my teeth and I had been hospitalised with cracked ribs before. His eyes light up when he’s beating me, so I think he’s crazy too. Maybe we are both lunatics but trust me, nobody understands wife battery like I do. I guess we’ll soon form an association, League of Battered Women, and I’d be the founding Country Director. It’s not funny. 3. My husband is the perfect gentleman. He is so wonderful, all any woman would want in a man. The truth: Perfect gentleman, my foot. He belches loudly, talks with his mouth full and doesn’t know what you use a dessert spoon for it is different from what you use a teaspoon for. If he’s not picking his nose in public, he’s eating his nails. He’s forever embarrassing me in public. What’s worse, the only topic he can discuss intelligently is football. He can’t name 10 governors in Nigeria but he can tell you the names of the goalkeepers in the Premiership. He forgets my birthday, comes home late on our wedding anniversary and has locked my father out of our home before. He runs me down in front of my friends and pinches their buttocks when he thinks I’m not looking. 4. No woman can snatch my husband. The truth: This one? He was snatched a long time ago. I have given up on him and accepted my fate. He has two children outside from two different women and we are still expecting more. He is the original he-goat. If you put a skirt on an electric pole, he’ll wink at the pole. He’s insatiable. My only worry is for my life. A man who has children outside his marriage is a non-condom-wearing dog. And that makes me a candidate for HIV and its little brothers. 5. If not for my children, I would have left him. The truth: Leave him and go where? Who will take care of me like he does? Leave him and forfeit my good life- summer and winter holidays wherever I want, contacts that being married to him gives me and the good sex? Not on your life! Sure, sometimes I feel like killing him but I’m not leaving him. In fact, he’d have to die to get rid of me. The advantages far outweigh the down side and never mind the children angle, if I really want to go I can take them, can’t I? I’m simply not going anywhere, not now, not soon, not ever. 6. He is the pillar of support for my career. The truth: What pillar? That man is permanently holding diggers and cutlasses to cut down my career and uproot everything good the whole world can see I have achieved. If you know what I have had to stomach to remain a ‘Mrs’, you will pity me. This man has come to my office several times to harass my colleagues, accuse my boss of sleeping with me. He once came into a restaurant where we were having a breakfast meeting to make trouble thinking that I was meeting a lover. He stormed in and found eight of us at the table. This ‘pillar’ of my life regularly locks me out of the house if I return home later than he wants. Right now we are in the middle of a major ‘boko haram’ because I want to go abroad to round off a PhD programme and he has said if I go, it would be the end of the marriage. He is asking me what I need a PhD for if not to be addressed a Dr when he is still a Mr. You should not believe everything you see because some of these things are photo tricks. 7. He is a great provider. He makes sure I don’t lack anything. The truth: I pay the rent and the children’s school fees. I am the one who makes sure he doesn’t lack anything but it is such a shame and I cannot tell anybody. This human being is lazy but he loves the good life. I am sticking it because if I leave today, everybody will declare me guilty, arrogant and a deserter. I wish things were different but I have to sustain this lie. 8.He is a stud and he wears me out in bed all the time. In fact, I’m tired. The truth: Stud ko, stud ni. I’m lucky if he touches me once in a month. All he thinks about are his containers and consignment. He has consigned me to the dustbin of celibacy. I am so hungry for the ‘thing’ now I’m eyeing Audu, the maiguard. Can you blame me? u can add urs lalasticlala |

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of 14 persons, including four suicide bombers, in a bomb explosion at Sajeri area of Maiduguri in Borno. The acting Army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday. Usman said that 39 other persons were injured in the explosion which occurred near the Ajilari railway crossing on Thursday evening. According to the statement, security operatives and emergency management team have been mobilised to take care of the wounded persons. “Although details of the attack are still sketchy, suffice it to state that four Boko Haram terrorists detonated their vests simultaneously. “Three of the terrorists detonated their bombs in the same area while the fourth detonated in front of a mosque. “It has been confirmed that 14 people have lost their lives, including the suicide bombers while 39 others were wounded,’’ the statement said. Usman appealed to residents of the metropolis, especially those in the affected areas, to remain calm and continue to be vigilant as security operatives were in control of the situation. He assured the public that Boko Haram had been decimated and therefore had no capacity to reverse the progress already made in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations. In a related development, the Army announced that 80 Boko Haram fighters on Thursday surrendered to troops of the Army 7 Division in Bama Local Government Area of Borno. The Army said the repentant terrorists comprised commanders, foot soldiers and the terrorists’ food suppliers. It said that the terrorists surrendered as a result of the intense heat put on them by joint forces operating in different theaters in the North-East. “The terrorists among whom were commanders, suppliers and foot soldiers confirmed to have taken part in several terrorists attacks especially on Bama town, Borno, surrendered,’’ the statement said. The army attributed its success to intense heat and the continuous offensive embarked upon by troops. “It will be recalled that we have repeatedly stated that surrender is the only option available to the insurgents. ‘’The Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force, in conjunction with other security agencies, are totally committed to the achievement of the 3-month Presidential deadline for the eradication of terrorism in Nigeria. ‘’Other terrorists are encouraged to also surrender or face total annihilation, as the new name of the operation states ‘achievement of total peace is a must’,’’ it said. Four more witnesses for Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers, on Thursday told the State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja that the April 11 governorship election was peaceful The witnesses, who were from different local government areas of the state, also declared that there were no cases of multiple thumb printing and ballot snatching in their respective polling units. The witnesses added that they were duly accredited by their polling unit officials and also waited for their votes to be counted before they left the venue. The witnesses included Mr Obubeleye Briggs, a lawyer, who voted at polling unit 1 in Ward 13 of Akukutoru Local Government Area, and Rev. Canon Nwankwo, who voted at polling Unit 7, Ward 12 in Ikwere Local Government. Others are Mrs Nkpang Igonikon, a public health worker, who voted at polling Unit 6, Ward 5 of Akukutoru Local Government Area, and Peter Michael, voted at unit 12 Ward 9 of Andoni Local Government. Briggs said that the election process was hitch-free and that after the whole process, the winner was later declared in his polling unit. Also, Rev. Canon Nwankwo, from the Anglican Church, said that the entire voting process in his unit was transparent and credible. Mrs Nkpang Igonikon, a health worker, said that she voted in her polling unit without any form of violence. Mr Peter Michael, a community leader, told the tribunal that the election went well in his polling unit and that the tribunal should disregard “the lies of the APC witnesses”. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that during the cross-examination by the APC Counsel, Mr Akinlolu Olujimi (SAN), all the witnesses told the tribunal that they did both manual and card reader accreditation. NAN also reports that Wike has so far presented 11 witnesses from seven local government areas to prove that the election was free and fair. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/rivers-gov-polls-4-more-witnesses-confirm-wike-won-april-election/ Lalasticlala |

Gov. Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state on Thursday cancelled all forms of fanfare as well as stadium parades usually held on Independence Day celebrations. NAN reports that Fayose in a broadcast said there was nothing to celebrate in view of the economic situation in the country. “I do not think it is proper to engage in jamboree when it is almost becoming increasingly difficult to pay workers salaries. “The current situation demands sober reflection from all and we cannot pretend about this,” Fayose said. He ordered residents to stay at home and enjoy the celebration in low-key. NAN reports that as a result of the governor’s order, the usual activities associated with the celebration were absent in most parts of Ado-Ekiti on Thursday. However, there were few places where pockets of activities were organised by individuals or corporate bodies. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/fayose-cancels-independence-celebration/ |

I carefully listen to the Presidential broadcast but one thing struck my mind. I waited to hear what he has to say about the economy but to my greatest dismay nothing about the economy. I believe in a presidential speech the President should be able to touch a lot of the critical sectors and give us an insight into what his plans are. YENAGOA —THERE was confusion in Yenagoa, yesterday, as
the rescheduled primaries by All Progressives Congress,
APC, to pick a governorship candidate, for the December 5,
governorship election did not hold.
As early as 8am, the Samson Siasia Sports Complex,
Yenagoa, the announced venue, had been occupied by Igbo
residents in Bayelsa State, who were celebrating the annual
Igbo National Day, while there was no sign of APC officials.
However, there was heavy security presence at the Complex
mounted by a combined team of soldiers, mobile policemen
and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,
NSCDC.
An anti-bomb police vehicle was also stationed at the
complex.
Some soldiers at the venue, who also expressed surprise
over the development, told Vanguard that they came to
provide security for the primaries, only to learn that the
exercise might have been shifted to today.
Although no official statement was issued for the sudden
development by the party in Yenagoa.
However, there were conflicting reports by some members
of the state executives of the party, with some claiming that
the election would take place yesterday night, while others
said the election would be conducted today.
At the state party secretariat in Yenagoa, scores of delegates
and some state party executives, were seen milling round
while others were seen discussing in groups.
Meanwhile, the Timi Alaibe Campaign Organisation, has
alleged of plans to use a fresh delegates lists for the
rescheduled primaries.
Spokesperson of the organisation, Mr Patterson Ogon, who
disclosed this in Yenagoa, yesterday, claimed the plot was
been masterminded by some powerful forces in the APC to
subvert the will of the people for the rescheduled Bayelsa
primaries.
