Our leaders are not being sensitive to our culture and values. Bringing policies that are alien, foreign and unacceptable without palliative. |

*WHAT IS ZAKAATUL-FITR?* The word _'Iftaar',_ comes to mind. _Zakaatul-Fitr_ is the charity that we give at the end of Ramadhan. *Ibn `Umar* reported that _Rasul (SAW),_ made _Zakaatul-Fitr_ compulsory on every slave, freeman, male, female, young and old among the Muslims; one _Sa`y_ (a measurement: four double handfuls) of dried dates or one _Sa`y_ of barely. *_[Bukhari]._* A _'Sa'y_ is 4 complete scoops as scooped up with two hands of a man of average build. It is a measure of volume; not weight. It is equivalent to *approximately 3 Litres.* Scholarly estimations in Kg puts it at *1 _SA’Y_= 2.1 to 3kg.* *WHEN IS IT DUE?* When the sun sets on the last day of _Ramadan,_ because _Rasul (SAW)_ called it _Sadaqatul-fitr,_ and _Fitr_ or breaking the fast of _Ramadaan_ comes when the sun sets on the night of _Eid_ (i.e., the night before _Eid_). *WHY GIVE?* It was enjoined on those who fast to purify their fasts and shield it from any indecent act or speech, and for the purpose of providing food for the needy. *IS IT OBLIGATORY?* *_YES!_* It is obligatory upon every _Muslim,_ if he has one _Sa’y_ or more than he needs of food for himself and his family on the night & day of Eid to give for himself & his dependants. *MUST I GIVE FOR MY BABY BORN IN RAMADAAN OR BEFORE EID SALAH?* *_YES_* *WHEN TO GIVE?* Must be given out before the _Eid_ prayer, it is permissible to pay it one or two days before _Eid,_ as was reported by *Ibn ‘Umar (RA)* *WHAT TO GIVE?* *Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri* narrated: “ We used to give _Zakaatul-Fitr_ when the prophet (SAW) was alive, a _Sa’y_ of food or a _Say_ of dates or a _Sa’y_ of barley or a _Sa’y_ of raisins or a _Sa’y_ of dried yoghurt.” *_( Agreed upon)._* It is acceptable to give a _Sa’y_ of any other local staple food such as rice, wheat etc. It is essential to *NOTE* that *_ZAKAATUL-FITR_ MUST BE FOOD, NOT MONEY* because money/currency was available during the time of the prophet (SAW) but he did not give it in the form of _Dinaar_ or _Dirham_ as _Zakaatul-fitr_ but *gave food only* *WHAT IS THE _SA’Y_ (MEASURE/QUANTITY) OF THE PROPHET (SAW)?* A _Sa'y_ is *4* complete scoops, as scooped up with two hands of a man of average build. *It is a measure of volume, not weight.* It is equivalent to approximately 3 Litre. Scholarly estimations in Kg puts it at *1 _Sa’y_ = 2.1 to 3kg.* It is well known that the weight of grains varies; some are light and some are heavy and some are in between. In fact, the weight in (kg) of a _Sa’y_ of the same kind of grain may vary, and fresh may weigh more than old. The estimation of *Shaykh Ibn Baaz* (may Allaah have mercy on him) and the scholars of the Standing Committee (9/371), say *3- kilograms.* *Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen* (may Allah have mercy on him) estimated it as being *2.1 kg,* as it says in *Fataawa al-Zakaah, p. 274-276.* This discrepancy occurred because *a _Sa'y_ is a measure of volume, not weight.* The scholars worked it out by weight so that it would be easier to comprehend. Hence, if people err on the side of caution and give more, that will be better. *CAN I GIVE IT TO NON- MUSLIMS?* It is not permissible to give it to anyone *except a needy Muslim.* *CAN I GIVE ON BEHALF OF OTHERS* If you cannot find any Muslim where you live, you can delegate someone else to give it on your behalf in another state/country, but *must reach the needy in the form of food before _Eid_ Prayer.* *HOW POOR CAN I BE NOT TO GIVE IT?* If you do not have more than one _Sa'y_ that is needed of food for you and your family on the day and night of _Eid._ *CAN I GIVE IT TO MY EXTENDED FAMILY?* *Yes,* if they are Muslims and needy. *IF I AM NEEDY AND ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE, MUST I ALSO GIVE?* *Yes,* if you have one _Sa'y_ or more than you need of food for yourself and family on the day and night of _Eid,_ you should give and you may also receive. *CAN I GIVE LESS THAN OR MORE THAN ONE _SA'Y_ TO ONE PERSON?* You can give more than one _Sa'y_ to one person but not less than one _Sa'y_ to one person. So, minimum of one _Sa'y_ to one person. *CAN I GIVE ON BEHALF OF A MUSLIM WHO DIED BEFORE THE END OF _RAMADAN?_* If a person died before the sun sets on the night of _Eid_ (i.e., the night before _Eid_) he does not have to pay this _Zakaah._ If a person lives until the time when it becomes obligatory, then dies before paying it, then it should be paid on his behalf from his wealth. This is because it is a duty that he owes and becomes a debt that must be paid on his behalf.

Too bad for democracy, an election umpire causing confusion.. Two certificates of return in circulation for a single office. AGF and FG kept mum for days. |
There were many facets to Ryan Giggs’ success as a player, but it was his incessant evolution which allowed him to carve a career of unparalleled grandeur. For the first time in almost 29 years, that same necessity for progress has taken him outside the confines of Old Trafford. Be he a spindly winger trampling touchlines or a novice coach treading a new career path, he has never been one to stand still in contentment. Two years on from hanging up his boots after a fleeting but positive taster of interim management, Ryan has decided that the time is right to move forward again. The concept of Giggs and Manchester United as separate entities is a curious one, as shocking as it was inevitable. We essentially bade farewell upon his 2014 retirement; a soft launch for Saturday's news that he will be off the club's staff for the first time since 1987, and there has been a likelihood for much of Ryan’s coaching career that his future would require a move away from his boyhood club. The quixotic prospect of Ryan slaloming seamlessly from supreme playing career into managerial power at Old Trafford was always a stirring notion, but too many events had to align in order to make it a reality. The timing was all off, thanks in no small part to his continued importance to the club as a player and, as a result, the length of his playing career. Had he adopted a player-coach role under Sir Alex Ferguson or had Louis van Gaal seen out the final year of his contract, events might have turned out differently for Giggs. We will never know. Speculation is futile; the fact is that Ryan will be missed around the club. Players still speak reverentially of him – widely and regularly opining that he remains one of the most capable in training sessions - while he is enduringly popular among staff. Sharp, witty and affable, he commands respect while being personable and respectful. Personally, this job has provided countless professional privileges over the years, but few can rival the honour of ghosting Ryan’s programme notes for his three home matches as interim boss. After seeing the club undergo an identity crisis in the aftermath of Ferguson’s departure, it was enormously faith-affirming to have a man in charge who was so steeped in the United way. "My philosophy is the Manchester United philosophy,” he told his first press conference. “I want to see goals, tackles, players taking players on and getting the crowd up. I'll tell the players to just to try to enjoy yourself, express yourself. I just want them to enjoy themselves and give the fans something to smile about.” He spoke lucidly and rousingly. Moreover, he spoke our language. But to expect him to become David Moyes’ permanent replacement on the basis of his standing among the squad and supporters was fanciful. Romance was understandably overruled in favour of the substantially greater experience of van Gaal, with the compromise being that Giggs would take on more responsibility and learn as assistant manager. Whether it was visible to the watching world or not, the fact that the Dutchman trumpeted the Welshman as his probable replacement spoke volumes for Giggs’ work behind the scenes, but the Premier League and European underachievement which prompted van Gaal’s departure a year before his three-year contract expired once again threw the timings off-kilter. Given the opportunity to appoint one of world football’s outstanding managers, United daren’t have missed out on Jose Mourinho. Giggs may have spent the majority of his playing career on the left flank, but he could not wait in the wings forever. He has crammed plenty of learning into the last three seasons – not to mention the 26 years he spent absorbing Ferguson’s mantra – and he has decided that the time is right to test himself elsewhere. Football is a small world and paths will cross again, but it remains to be seen in what capacity. Time will tell what the future holds for Manchester United’s leading appearance-maker and Britain’s most-decorated footballer, but he leaves Old Trafford with the best wishes of every single person associated with the club. It’s the biggest step of Ryan Giggs’s career, but he has never gotten anywhere by standing still.

This is pitiful and sorrowful. We are not good at making life easy and bearable, but splendid in making it harmful at the expense of masses. |
