Talking about Sleeper teams, you left out the Spurs. Spurs would be this season what OKC was three seasons ago, the year before they led the West. They are building quietly and no one is paying attention. D.Aaron Fox will be that trigger for Spurs, the way Shai was for OKC. They have got, Wemby, an upgrade on Holmgren. They need a couple more pieces, definitely. But they sure look like they know what they are doing unlike clueless Blazers and Jazz. I am rooting for them.

The Dallas Mavericks is a problem too if they can stay healthy. Imagine a prime Kyrie, Klay and AD playing together? That's damage right there. Throw in Cooper Flagg, Lively, Gafford, Max Christie and PJ Washington. I dare say OKC won't repeat. They just can't. And whosoever wins next season is coming from the west if there are no injuries.
If they dont get the right coach, it wont matter. Popovich stayed too long in that role, and I think they have institutionalized a type of player, coach and front office that cannot win in today's league

The evolution with the shape of his head reminds me of Barry Bonds.

He is doing a terrific job covering his tracks but one day na one day!
Unlike baseball, basketball is more finesse. Muscle bulk has always been hindrance ore than help, even for the big guys. I saw TMac get bulked, get injured then slim down. Same with Kobe, bulk, get injured then slim down. I could see basketball athletes taking borderline supplements for overtraining pain. I could see guys trying it to come back from injuries as well, like Tatum grin But makes no sense for performance.

As far as head shape, most african males have high level of testosterone by default and if you start working out twice a day, you will surprise yourself. People forget Ronnie Coleman early on in his career was not using any steroids, and still jacked up. He didnt win any championships, but he looked jacked,

Lmao.. those grandpas?
You could have a second unit is all under 30. John Collins, Kris Dunn(31), Ben Simmons, Zubac. Even first unit with Beal, Harden, Kawhi are not 35 yet. Ok Harden may be 70 in strip club years, but I digress grin

By the same token, Lakers have gotten just as deep, but younger. Both LA teams compare favorable with Nuggets for depth

4 other "sleeper" teams that look rugged and ready to rumble, Rockets, Kings, Magic and Knicks

Meanwhile warriors have to be the worst in moves this offseason

Naaaa… I smell hypocrisy!

If this was Boston, you would lead the charge against my Celtics angry That we start reading all sorts of stuff about our fans, racism and everything under the sun. But because it is not Boston, you are more enthralled by Dame 419ing the Bucks!

Harden must retire a Rocket is all I know!
Cannot happen, spirit world has rules my man. If he must retire, it must be where he started, in OKC. So I suspect it will not happen for another decade.

Yep Jonas can definitely hit a 3 here and there!

When you say "certain way" what exactly do you mean? Are you referring to pace?

To me the biggest thing I learnt in this past playoffs is that team depth gets you places..
Tbh, I dont even understand what they are doing. Take OKC for example, fast pace, exciting plays, but then some of their games are low scoring. Not that teams are missing shots, but they using up that 24s clock, taking midrange jumpshots etc. They looking like young run and gun team, but you look at the stats at it feels more old school. I cant even call it positionless basketball, because it isnt. Memphis played something similar some years back, but this offense is way more potent

As for GSW, they will be fine, am sure they very much know this is an issue, it will be resolved before season starts.

The West just keeps getting Wilder!
Im not so sure about warriors. Most franchises do not consult players before making trades. I know people think guys like Lebron, Curry, Durant would be contacted for approval, but front office is real corporate america. They have a certain pride and way of doing things. Unfortunately, I think warriors are going to stay tone deaf and try to ride Curry until he gets old, and consequently no more rings

Denver has made some smart trades without spending too much. The biggest is obviously a savvy center that can replace Jokic and still stretch the floor.

I wonder if its enough though, the final 2 teams played a certain way, which will likely doom older teams come playoffs

You are indeed an elder to have seen all the action cartoons you listed. But you forgot to add Thunder Sub. I watched every episode of that adventure cartoon and missed the very last episode because of NEPA. It haunted me like mad. Thunder Sub had transformed from a submarine to a spacecraft for the final battle in space with alien invaders. After so many years, I was able to see the last episode on YouTube in 2023. Captain Noah died in that battle, and I almost cried. Hannah, his daughter, was so unconsolable.

The late 70s through the 80s and 90s were indeed the good old days when it came to TV programmes.
I will never forgive nta channel 7 for ruining some voltron and thunder sub cliff hangers. Adult will just walk in and change from channel 5 to channel 7, pure unadulterated yoruba news. If you know, you know grin

In hindsight, the limited exposure we had to TV was a good thing. Many of the psycho symptoms plaguing gen z and millenials, were already showing up in the 80s. It just didnt have a name at the time

The Bucks waived Lillard while he was out with an Achilles injury and there is silence, no single uproar about it.

But if it were the Celtics, this place for don catch fire with all kinds of agenda against my Cs.

We all know what we are doing.
Are you prepping us for a super star waiving coming up grin?

To be fair, Lillard landed on the bucks injured, stayed injured most of the time, and never had any impact. If anything, guy man should voluntarily donate half his salary back to homeless shelters around milwaukee to make up for the fraud he perpetrated. He had people believing he should be in the same sentence as steph curry. Matter of fact, he should donate 90%, reverse tithe that salary!

success can be a terrible thing. It keeps the organization stuck in the past too long, until its too late to change.

I love how T mac recently misyarn about Kobe and he's been ethered by NBA fans.
The same way we have recency bias , we also have nostalgia bias.
Some of our childhood idols are not as great as we imagined to be in our heads.

Imagine, comparing a player who couldn't win one playoff series in his career to another who at 26yrs has led his teams to two conferences finals, one NBA final and several playoffs series win.
Tmac has his faults, the teams and game play are different now, etc. But facts remain facts. Luka, the way he play now, would not get anywhere in the 2000s era. You had to play both ends of the court back then, it was not a suggestion. Which player then will see how Kobe, KG etc are playing and you will now insist on only scoring. Which is why they lost to Celtics, who didnt have to dig deep to win, just killed them with the 3-ball
SportsRe: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 5:25pm On Jun 25, 2025
The last 4 teams in the conference finals, the last 2 teams in the finals and the eventual champions has signaled a new path to success for the league. Teams are now more willing to jettison big name stars to rebuild. Teams that feel close to success will likely look for a marquee pickup to complement team, but will not risk roster completeness and a deep bench to do so. This is like the opposite of 2 or 3 seasons where teams would wreck the roster just to get a big 3 scoring trio. Good times for interesting basketball.

According to Shams Charania, multiple teams have approached the Celtics about JB.

Everyone is on the table like I said.
Something about JB always makes me feel he really doesnt dig Boston like that. He has never said so, but something about him just gives me "vibes". Maybe its just me as a fan overthinking, but I could see JB wanting to land somewhere else. I cant tell if its that he wants a larger role, or that he just doesnt vibe well with the city/franchise. Make we dey watch sha.

You mean Brooks? The league has many defensive minded journeymen that can do the same, without as much drama. I mean I liked the drama, but it is what it is
SportsRe: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 7:34pm On Jun 24, 2025
Now that I have calmed down, this Durant trade feels really good to me, like when we got Tmac. Yeah Durant is much older, no longer at his peak, but it feels good to have that scoring forward that can also defend with his wingspan again.

Plus, this is the type of trade Durant should be in. He proved he can win with super teams, this is his chance to win with a young, up and coming but disciplined team. I am sad we lost Jalen Green, but it seemed like he had peaked 2 years ago. I am really curious to see how this new team dynamic will work - that being said, Durant is not a locker room problem. Guy man just puts his head down and works, something coach will very much appreciate.

@Roland At the end, your Celtics are not better than Giannis and his 'band of dancing clowns'. Use him to win a ring and dump him uhn? Jrue deserves better. One of the reasons I don't give a f**k about franchises. I care more about the players. You are the opposite.
They have done right by Jrue imo. They paid him well and he leaves with his reputation intact. I dont like supporting Celtics either, but this roster has gotten paid really well. Even if they blow the team up, I dont think anyone can really complain, its was obvious the way the season ended this was coming.

I think I just found my Team. Indiana Pacers.

For a little context, this is my first ever NBA playoffs that I'm following bumper to bumper. I didn't follow regualar season but I've devoted more time to this series than the just concluded Uefa champions league. I also watch the TNT crew for follow up.

However, my first foray into basketball was in 2004. I watched San Antonio spurs and I know Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. (saw him for Argentina also at Athens Olympics) but I don't think I'm Spurs.

I also know Detroit Pistons ONLY because there's a particular guy in that team with a face mask, like Osimhen. I don't know his name, but I vividly remember him... Circa 2004 ish.

But I always support Boston Celtics, partly because green is my favorite color and I have a Larry bird jersey 🤷, however, this series made me realize my love for them is not Organic.

Now to the Pacers. I first saw them against Giannis bucks, then I fell in love against the knicks(maybe because most don't give them a chance) I don't know. But when I watch them I feel it.

So that's it. Basically all my career in the NBA and I'm stanning the Pacers henceforth. Till thy kingdom come.

Funny enough, last week I bought a Pacers mural at the mall. Hanged it in my car.. Didn't plan to, just saw it and I knew I was a Pacers. wink

Thanks you guys.
All good my guy. Pace yourself sha, you dont want to commit to being a chelsea fan when times were good lipsrsealed

And? Jimmy has actually gone all the way to the Finals as the guy.

AD is a generational player anybody with eyes can see it but he's not an Alpha dog. That also counts.

I've seen Siakam in a NBA title close out game do 26 and 10.
But 26 10 is what AD averages in a season. Person wey dey drop 40/10, 30/15 in playoff games? A big that can get his own shot, rebound on both ends, score in the paint and 3pt line efficiently, and always the best shot blocker on the team? No comparison.

Lakers will look back and feel very stupid for this trade. Dallas won this thing hands down. When I see people arguing this, I shake my head. We get too caught up in flash. Lakers just needed to go back to the model that worked with AD, have a second legit center to pair him with. That combo alone will get you to WCF every year!
