One good note here, previously in this type of high profile Laker games, at the end, its all on Lebron. Much props to a semi-rookie taking the opportunity this time around. These are the type of teams Lebron excels on. He is not a Jordan or Kobe type player. and will never be. His greatness comes through making others step up.

For example you cant forget that Chris Bosh rebound, that Ray Allen 3 in the finals. That moment is immortal in this game. Yet Lebron was on the court, and that is the reason that team was even in this position.

Long story short, Lakers are a sleeper team to surprise folks this year, if yall can keep the circus under control. Just avoid OKC. Otherwise

In the future, the game might return to what it was in the 80s and 90s. And we would accept the change. But for now, it is what it is.

Its a good opportunity for someone else to start a different league. We used to watch all these games on over the air TV as well. Now you need like 3 subscriptions if you want to catch all games. Hence the low ratings. Adding color to the floor and graphics for kids does not fix the underlying issue that is is a subpar product.

Football/soccer ends goalless at times. But they have generational fans. American football has low scoring games as well, and they also have generational fans. NBA is approaching this wrong.

I'm not even wowed by any athleticism I saw MJ, Shaq, Vince, Shawn Kemp, Chuck, Karl Malone. There's nothing I'm seeing today I've not seen before

I have to agree unfortunately. Athleticism is relative. What looks like more athletic guys today is more a function of a less physical game, allowing you to essentially dance to the rim on offense. Clyde Drexler, Keem the Dream, Barkley, Karl Malone, these guys would have toyed with this era. I wont even mention the small but mighty dawgs like Tim Hardaway, Allen Iverson, Bibby, Steve Franchise. Which game will they play with no handcheck, that they wont drop 50 on you? And break all your team's ankles in the process Wetin Draymond wan do if he see Ralph Sampson, Ralph go slap am twice with no response . For reals o, those were grown men, not just in age, but in mentality.

I don't troll anything. I have a genuine question, all those who love claiming the 90s were so great, please when was the last time people actually went back and watched a whole game not highlights? I recently finished watching the bulls first championship finals and the one they beat the Suns and the basketball was for a better word primitive.
None of the teams listed apart from GSW would be able to guard a 5 out offense because they've never seen it, the Bulls and Lakers would implement a triangle offense would be so easy for the Celticsto defend. MJ and Co would face defensive schemes they never saw in their time playing. They would have to face more than two defensive looks in a basketball game.
The Celtics would have open look, after open look on the perimeter,because teams never switched in those days and they all thought 3s were bad shots, so they would not defend it.

PS: Unless this is one of those discussions were we are magically adding skillsets that none of these players had in their playing days to make sure that they can adapt to modern basketball. If these OGs play the way they played in their days, then I am sorry none of those series go beyond 5.

The most important thing in baskteball, just like football or tennis or any other sport, is mental toughness. If it was just skill and offense, Sacramento Kings with Webber/Bibby/Peja would have 2 rings right now. The Portland Trailblazers with Mighty Mouse/Sheed/Smitty would have one as well. And its the reason Detroit Pistons with a center who cant shoot from 5ft, a PG with suspect 3pt shot and boring coach beat a 3 time champion with 4 hall of famers.

During this bad start, he has blamed everyone but himself! His game still needs some finesse otherwise he would just be a rich man’s Westbrook.

Someone needs to remind Anthony Edwards that he hasn’t won anything. I feel like he has allowed the noise about his abilities to distract him. He has regressed this season with his overall play. ANT needs to refocus because he is losing the respect of his team mates and the fans are now booing.

ol boy, I was worried about this. You have to be mentally tough to be a superstar in this league. But you have to 2x tougher than that to stay a superstar. I was waiting to see how he would handle that playoff fame. At first he tried to form humble, but it appears the MJ comparisons got in his head.

Hopefully some vet shakes it out of his head. But hard to do these days, with all that money and access and a legion of fake fans on social media. It is very hard to be grounded. I like how you posed the question. It makes more sense to compare teams than individual players. Still though, the comparison ultimately will not make sense. When you change the rules, you change the winners. Know this and know peace. Celtics that just won the ring spamming 3s would not smell conference finals in any other era. Even from the pictures you shared, you can see one team looking like they could be boxers or nfl players. And another team looking like ballet dancers

A head to head matchup therefore cannot happen, because which rules will you play by? The 80s? or 2010s? All that being said, NBA wants to broaden its reach to new fans, especially women. I dont think new fans want to watch defensive wrestling matches where neither team cracks 90.

However, all that being said, there is one thing that the earlier eras have that is not present today, that could still give them the edge. Mindset. We have a few throwbacks in today's league like Lebron, Durant, Curry. But by and large, with all the skill and training and health protocols, they soft as charmin toilet paper. Can you mention Embiid in the same sentence as Bill Russell and not slap yourself?
