I would say amen to Nigeria getting a recognition at oscars. winning one who know maybe with prayer and fasting. hey guys im not giving up on nollywood o.
Jenifa cant win anything outside nigeria cos only nigerians can appreciate the film. I hate it anyway.

guys lets list the top ten best nollywood films and give our own awards on nairaland if oscars wont give our guys awards. maybe someone should start that topic.

Sisi Jinx you are too wicked on our nollywood guys o cheesy

Just dont say what you said on treads with fans of nollywood. I trashed Jenifa on some "jenifa the blockbuster" treads and people have attacked me and called me all sorts of names because they just adore the film and i dont like it. everyone is entitled to their opinion.
cheers grin

I guess i was very angry but i don cool down now.
i found 3 good things in the film
1. the lighting in the scene where the chief was robbed by those boy
2. the shot where Aderupoko was talking to his wife on the way to the farm (nice shalow depth of field)
3. Aderupoko's acting

Apart from that nothing more o

o yes one more thing-the only funny person in the film is that Suliat's boyfriend. the local rich boy. funny but even suliat herself isn't funny to me cos the character isn't real enough to me.

Cool man. I surely will do something. you see I dont beef people for doing their thing. Nigerians are respected outside for what we are doing because no matter what we still get movies released and I respect people Nollywood film makers for that but that doesnt mean that I should accept a film that I think its bad. Funke is doing her thing and kudos to her for that. no beefs. all i know is that the film Jenifa is bad.

as for me i dont watch many nollywood movies, infact i have not seen any for about 2 years. but i can say there are nollywood film makers that i respect.

check out our music videos they are brilliant i cant even do what those guys do. they spend more money on a 5 minutes music video than they spend on a "part 1,2,3" film that they make because they shoot music video on 35mm film. our music video has evovled and gotten better over the years but our movies has not improved. the same crap being made 10 years ago is still being made.

they still do action sequence that looks fake. since i was a kid i know even indian films make shooting in film look real but our films still use sound effect for guns shots and nobody see that. who is fooling who? our actor still act like they act on stage. nobody see that stage acting is different from film acting but we have gotten used to their over the top acting that we have come to accept it as the right form of acting.

anyways im just airing my view. i hope i dont get attacked my "funke's fans" again

@ Jaybaby
its good to know that there are some people like you out there who still have their film sense intact. who are not just biased and attack others for not liking what they adore.
cheers
TV/MoviesRe: Jenifa the. blockbuster by bishoptboy(m): 6:45am On Mar 05, 2009
@ Jaguda
you make much sense because you are not biased like some people calling me "ode" because I have a better taste and like I have said its my opinion and I'm entitled to it.
I dont act. I'm an upcoming film maker. I'm presently studying film making in South Africa. I have done some stuff with no money and I can provide you links to them. what I have sone with no money is still better (technically) than what i see in Jenifa and that makes me mad. If I was told Jenifa is another nigerian film i wasnt going to watch it but there was so much noise about it and I took pain to watch the film only to hate myself for wasting my time for that. I was looking for a nigerian film that i could be proud of and tell my foreigner friends who thinks nollywood makes only bad films. thats why i drove 20km to go get the film and find out i have wasted my money and time.
I was surprised to know that people have lost their visual sense and they give kudos to film bad. It gives me concern cos I felt that nollywood is lowering people standard and if we are not careful we wont even know whats good again.

I dont get paid for watching film as a critic cos its not my job. I'm a cinematographer.

AGAIN, THIS TREAD IS FOR JAGUDA. IF YOU ARE NOT OBJECTIVE IN YOUR REPLY DONT TALK TO ME. I WANT TO TALK TO SENSIBLE PEOPLE NOT BIASED FUNKE FAN WHO ONLY INSULT PEOPLE THAT ARE NOT HER FAN.

IM AN OBJECTIVE FILM CRITIC AND IM PROUD OF IT. grin grin grin grin

Rekky and buffhead did you guy go to school at all. cant you read? leave me alone to my opinion. i wasnt talking to you. i was talking to purestboy and those that share my view. if you love and adore the film good for you. leave me to my opinion. I watch film as a critic not a "groopy".
cheers
TV/MoviesRe: Jenifa the. blockbuster by bishoptboy(m): 8:48pm On Mar 03, 2009
everybody has got his opinion. i just shared mine. no need for beefs
TV/MoviesRe: Jenifa the. blockbuster by bishoptboy(m): 5:57am On Mar 03, 2009
Purestboy and everyone that doesn't like the film should just give up. these people have bad taste and I have given up on trying to convince them that Jenifa is a bad film but they cant just see cos they are fan of poor film (poor acting, fake character and no character development, bad dialogue, awful cinematography, poor sound, terrible lighting, fake wig and makeup, whatelse i cant just see anything good in it. maybe i have watched to many foreign films and my taste "level don change".

this is my opinion and nobody should should quote me and attack me directly except purestboy that im talking to.

peace, no bad feeling
TV/MoviesRe: Jenifa the. blockbuster by bishoptboy(m): 9:27pm On Feb 19, 2009
Hey Raymond88
I remember in 1995 and I was at a friends house and they were watching a yoruba film and Ireti (a yoruba film actress) was digitally doubled and they all said she has a twin just because they saw two of her on the same screen. you know like they did in dangerous twins with ramsey noah. i told them that it was a film trick they argued with me that its not possible that she must have had a twin sister. you know i didnt win the argument then. now its a well known thing to every nigerian that is possible to show the same person talking to himself on tv.

so now when people are shouting jenifa! jenifa! i know letting them know that its a bad film is a no win battle so i give up.

what many dont know now they will know soon when new wave film maker emerge and let them know that we can make better stuff. we will send packing those rubbish film makers who let foreigners laugh at us. you should be in south africa to see how they make jest of our film.

i respect nigerian film makers for taking the chance to carve a niche for themselves and let the world know that they can make cheap films but the fact still remains that our films are poor quality. but its sad that our people taste is so bastardized that they dont even know good stuff again.

what hilarious in "suliat kan ayetoro kan" are we getting 'funkier' or getting more 'razz' in naija?
TV/MoviesRe: The Movie : Seven Pounds by bishoptboy(m): 8:22pm On Feb 18, 2009
I like his acting in the film. He really deliver that character of a man in anguish. you can see the subtility in his acting. i like when he gives that fake smile on his face. I think his acting was good.

about the story line i like it. I like the plot twist in the film. you dont know what made him sad and you wont suspect that he was impersonating his brother all the while he poses to be ben.

does anyone see that he lost some weight. i personally think their reference was from the character of christian bale in "the machinist"

what do you guys think. i will google it to find out if he actually lost weight for the character.
cheers

I have decided to rest my case. I feel for many of my countrymen cos the rubbish they are fed has killed their film sense and that made me sad. this is the discussion i had with some people who know good film and they all agree with me that its the rubbish of the century.
If i was told that its just a naija film i wont be this angry but i have been told that its the best film ever to come out of naija and i drove 20km to go get it only to see that its even worse that some that i have seen.

Jenifer-bad script, bad dialogue, bad characters, bad casting, bad art direction, bad technical (ligthing, sound, camera, directing). everthing i see on the film is bad except for 2 shot that was well thought of or it was just a mistake that i and a fellow film maker saw to be good.

anyways lets leave them to their Jenifa we will move on to something else. I saw ROCK 'N' ROLLA (Guy Ritchie) and SEVEN POUNDS and i like it. its not a bad film. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THEM

ABEG IF I OFFEND YOU NO VEX O. I NO WAN OFFEND ANYBODY NA THE FILM DEY VEX ME O.

cheers

I got the film because som people said it was good. I wanted to appreciate our own stuff but what i found is so bad that i was angry. such story i know is not even new. village girl on campus. it might not be directly but i have seen a couple of films that has to do with village boy or girl in city and they are better. I saw Lagos na wa years back and its better that the rubbish called Jenifa.

Someone please preach to nollywood film makers to stop telling me their film in the sound track. you dont even need to watch some of the film. all you need to do is listen to the sound track and you have seen the film.
TV/MoviesRe: Jenifa! by bishoptboy(m): 9:07am On Feb 18, 2009
firstly i said in my other tread that Mr. Ibu is not the best of films but funny. Mr Ibu has got no plot but they did pull off their punchline comedy. In South Africa it has sold hundred of thousand copies.

and by the way is that a film analysis that you just gave me. I said PLOT ANALYSIS, you gave me a tagline.

If you were to buy a film and they told you what you told me will you but that film. Why is it that most of our films dont have a synopsis written at the back.

are you into film making or ctitique? let me know who am talkin to please. cheers brother
TV/MoviesRe: Which Movies Would You Like To See Remade? by bishoptboy(m): 5:40pm On Feb 17, 2009
for me its my favourite nigerian film- Igodo. i think we should talk about Nigerian film with potential that could be remade with good stuffs-camera, light, better dialogue, plot, character bible etc. Lets leave american film to the american and discuss how we can better our own stuff. cos i think we are being fed to much nonsense from nollywood that many nigerians dont know the good stuff from bad stuff. Jenifa is one film i think is very bad but people say its da bomb.
TV/MoviesRe: White Waters(the Movie) by bishoptboy(m): 5:31pm On Feb 17, 2009
ahwuyen go to video/graphics tread you will find guys there to help you. guys there deal with editing and stuffs like that. here is just movie fans. well good and bad movies have fans here. I'm here to express my anger at jenifa because i went all the way to get the movie hoping to find a nigerian movie i can be proud of but i was too dissappointed. LOL
TV/MoviesRe: Jenifa! by bishoptboy(m): 5:25pm On Feb 17, 2009
Dude thats not comc relief that just making a fool of a character and it doent work. the movie is supposed to be a drama. they dont have to write it in the credit sequence bodly that its drama before a literate can clasify it.
like i said lets talk about the plot. analyse the plot for me please cos all i see is a dragging film with no beginning , middle or end. abeg analyse the film and tell me what makes it good.
TV/MoviesRe: Jenifa! by bishoptboy(m): 4:15pm On Feb 17, 2009
Herperus

You need to know that comedy is all about over the top acting. Jenifa is supposed to be a drama and not comedy. The characters are fake. Jenifa character doesnt work for me. she tries to speak like a village girl but switched from ibadan accent to ijebu at some point. if she said she got admission to the university why cant she call big girls well and she calls it "bis ges". dont tell me that she is an illiterate because she made a statement in english in the village b4 she came to the city and she pronounced all the words correctly. so why did she come to town and start speaking stupid. being an illiterate doesnt mean she should speak like an slowpoke.

how many times do you see someone who is dress badly walk past you and you stop turn around and start a whole discussion on them. the acting is bad

you need to know acting for stage different from acting for TV. these people act for stage on Tv. Tv acting should be subtle and not over the top except for sitcom and comedy. Mr Ibu was defined from the onset that it was comedy. I'm not saying Mr. Ibu is the best film but they pulled off the comedy the set out for. Jenifa makers doent even know what they want.

can we talk about the plot. tell me what you think of the plot.
TV/MoviesRe: Jenifa! by bishoptboy(m): 2:30pm On Feb 17, 2009
Hey Heperus Tell me whats funny about Jenifa. is it the bad and fake acting from all the girl. their acting is over the top and not real. they could not even define what their aim is. is it a comedy or drama. the whole movie is a big flot. hey lets even analyze the movie. tell me whats good about it and i will tell you guys whats bad about it.

Lets define it. i will not even talk about the bad technicality of the film cos 955 of naija film is bad technically. tell me 5 reasons why you think the film is good and i will give you 10 reason why i think its a bad film
TV/MoviesRe: White Waters(the Movie) by bishoptboy(m): 1:07pm On Feb 17, 2009
Aloy.Emeka the fact that illiterate like something doesn't mean that its good. real movie people know real films. Jenifa was given accolades by whoever. not real movie buffs
TV/MoviesRe: White Waters(the Movie) by bishoptboy(m): 8:13am On Feb 17, 2009
Please guys i just watched the over rated JENIFA and was pissed off. I will search for white water. I hope I wont be disappointed cos this is the way people talked about jenifa and I find it to be a 2 hours crap. I will keep my finger crossed and let you know what i think after i have seen it. I will close my eyes to the technical stuffs and not criticize it cos i know it will still be of low quality but I will focus on the storyline and try to find meaning in it. cheers guys
TV/MoviesRe: Jenifa the. blockbuster by bishoptboy(m): 7:51am On Feb 17, 2009
I think unleashed and Kingron needs to be schooled about film. those two boys have bad taste. Kingron do you know the meaning of Blockbuster at all. find out please. hey 5p 1naz, I'm a yoruba and I repect some yoruba film maker like tunde kelani. Tunde makes good films with a storyline not a stale storyline of village girl comes to lagos without any new twist to the story. why not call it Lagos na wa (yoruba version). "Lagos na wa" that was made some years back is much better than jenifa

Raymond88 seems to know what good taste is. Raymond you know that I decided to shut my eyes to the technical stuff because I know its always bad. i looked at the storyline and cant find any meaning to it. I thought I was to critical at it and got a Rwandan film maker who is objective to watch it and she finds no meaning in it. she even wrote a critique on it. i will post it soon.

I think guys needs to upgrade their taste.
TV/MoviesRe: Jenifa! by bishoptboy(m): 7:42am On Feb 17, 2009
Oh I'm sorry if i offended anyone. i guess i was too angry with the Rubbish called Jenifa. Well i shouldn't have used Intellectually challenged. I guess the right word was visual Illiteracy.

"Unleashed" I'm not making an "unnecessary noise" I'm telling it as it is. If something is bad you dont accept it just because you dont have an option. i have always wanted to see a good Nigerian film and when i was told of Jenifa I searched for it and finally got it on sunday. i was pissed off cos i expected more and couldn't find any meaning in what they were doing.

If you are talking of comedy everyone agrees that Mr. Ibu is a good comedy even non-nigerians love it. jenifa is not a comedy and its got no story line. there is what is called tag-line or one -liner in film making. Can anybody tell me what the film is about in one sentence (tag-line)?
TV/MoviesRe: Jenifa! by bishoptboy(m): 7:34am On Feb 16, 2009
Its just rubbish. the girl was too fake to me. the whole movie is made for the dumb, stupid, intellectually challenged, gosh everything was bad from the soundtrack to the technical stuffs, to the over the top acting. I would rather watch tales by moon light. Nollywood has fed us too much rubbish that we now settle for so little.
TV/MoviesRe: Jenifa the. blockbuster by bishoptboy(m): 7:28am On Feb 16, 2009
Biggest rubbish to come out of nollywood. bad/over the top acting, no storyline, all the girls are not real. to talk of technical stuff- bad sound, bad lighting. everything is rubbish. I watched it yesterday and was very angry.

I think Nigerians have been fed to much of rubbish that I dont know what makes Jenifa good to them. I was told the movies was good so i had huge expectations and i searched for it only to watch it and be angry at myself for staying up late. well i skipped it at some point and all i hear in every scene is "N300k for appearing alone". I felt like breaking my TV.

Lastly, can anyone tell me the movie in one sentence (one-liner).

Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Sony Ex1 Vs Panasonic Hvx200 by bishoptboy(m): 7:58pm On Dec 31, 2008
here is something i just read now. you can read the full on http://techthoughts.org/2008/01/16/sony-pmw-ex1-vs-panasonic-hvx-200-easy-choice/

This first image is a crop from the PMW-EX1 (left) and HVX200 (right).
The files presented on the PairofHands web site were PNG files which showed little sign of compression. I cropped, moved the two vertical resolution sections closer together and then saved as a JPG with 50% quality. Visually, they are near identical to the source PNG files you can see on their web site.

The most telling point to me is that the HVX footage starts banding and blurring at 600 whereas the EX1 footage is clear through 800. It looks like it could have kept providing clear lines beyond 800 but the standard-def chart that was used goes no higher.

To me, it also looks like the HVX has a weird banding or some effect happening at 500 that is not present on the PMW-EX1. Gott give credit that Panasonic gets that much resolution out of those small chips.

For an extensive and interesting hands-on review of the EX1, from late 2007, check out DVuserUK. There’s an article by Nigel Cooper who had his hands on an EX1 to shoot footage in preparation for IBC:
