” As much as I enjoy playing for my club, I want to put same, even much more in playing for my country. God bless Naija”, he posted on twitter.

The Nigerian is yet to find the back of the net but his performances has reportedly impressed coach of Valerenga Ronny Delia with his overall play on the flanks.

A source close to the team told Owngoalnigeria.com that Ejike has impressed in batches during the game, but clearly has proven to the coaches that he has the goods to become a better player in the future.

Comfortable as a winger or a role behind the striker, the 18 year old had trials with Liverpool last season but the move didn’t work out due to issues surrounding a loan move to a team, where he is guarantee playing time before he becomes eligible for a work permit in England.

Flashback – Alhassan Ibrahim : Rated Above Iheanacho & Success In 2012.. An Eagle Now Ready To Soar

Not so many can flash their mind back to four years ago when the all conquering Nigeria Under-17 team of 2013 was been assembled by coach Manu Garba.

In 2012 one name stood head and shoulders above his peers, Ibrahim Alhassan aka Mu’azam was the talk of the team. He earned himself the nickname “New Kanu”, given to him by no other than the former Sport Minister of Nigeria Bolaji Abdullahi.

Abdullahi gave him the moniker after seeing the way the baby faced assassin took teams apart in friendly games and in their qualifiers against Niger Republic, where he scored a hattrick.

Tall, lanky and full of tricks, the nickname truly fits the young man who provoked memories of legendary Nigeria football star Kanu Nwankwo. Who also gained global attention after starring for Nigeria at U-17 level in 1993.

However what would have been the best pedestal for the then 16 year old to launch himself to the world, was truncated when he failed the mandatory age test for U-17 players.

His failed MRI test opened the door for the likes of Watford big money buy Isacc Success and Manchester City teen star Kelechi Iheanacho to make the step up as leaders of the team.

He returned to the team two years later when they graduated to U-20 but after a bit part role at the Africa Youth Championship. He was dropped from the World Cup squad.

While two of his former understudy are now part of the Nigeria senior national team. Mu’azam has just six months of professional football under his belt, no thanks to so many disappointments beyond his control and, a now healed knee injury.

Now at Nigeria Premier League side Wikki Tourist. The Kano state raised ace who missed out on three deals to take his trade abroad two years ago, insist he is still focused on making the most of his career.

” I’m not at all bothered. Am focused on making the most of my career. Have made mistakes in the past aside the disappointments of missing out on the various youth teams of Nigeria” He told popular Kaduna journalist Mohammed Suleiman.

” The career of Iheanacho and Success inspires me a lot, I see them as my role model, by that I mean if they can be playing at such a high level, very soon I will join them Insha Allah.

” I have no regret about what happened in the past. The future matters most above all, and that’s where I want to focus on”.

Diallo: Guinea were unfortunate against Egypt

Guinea head coach Mandjou Diallo felt that his charges were unfortunate against Egypt in Lusaka, Zambia on Wednesday afternoon.

The Young National Elephants fought back to hold the Young Pharaohs to a 1-1 draw in the 2017 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group A clash.

"I’m not disappointed with the result. We made some changes to the team which reflected in our performance," Diallo told CAF Media.

"Our objective was to win; unfortunately it ended 1-1. Notwithstanding, the outcome won’t discourage us going into the last game (against Mali).

"Matches between the two teams (Mali and Guinea) are always difficult. We know each other and speak the same language," he continued.

"We will have to prepare well and concentrate fully on the match."

Guinea are set to take on their West African rivals Mali in their final Group A match in Ndola on Saturday.

Guinea fight back to hold Egypt

Guinea drew 1-1 with Egypt in the 2017 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group A game at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Wednesday afternoon.

The draw sees Egypt remain second on the Group A standings, while Guinea also stay fourth on the table.

The Young National Elephants dominated the opening stages of the game - applying pressure on the Young Pharaohs defence in search of an early goal.

Momo Yansane was unlucky not to give Guinea the lead a few minutes into the game, but his shot hit the crossbar with Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed Mostafa beaten.

Mostafa produced a magnificent save just before the half-hour mark - finger-tipping Alseny Soumah's attempt over the crossbar as Guinea continued to dominate.

However, the Young Pharaohs took the lead against the run of play with ten minutes left on the clock after a good move by the North African side.

Mostafa Abdallah received a pass from the left, before firing past Guinea goalkeeper Sekouba Camara to make it 1-0 to Egypt.

The Young National Elephants tried to push for the equalizing goal, but the Young Pharaohs held onto their lead and it was 1-0 to Egypt at half-time.

With his side struggling to penetrate the Egyptian defence, Guinea coach Mandjou Diallo decided to introduce Facinet Soumah twelve minutes into the second-half.

Guinea were in control of the game and in the 68th minute Yansane's free header was on target, but Mostafa made a great save to deny him.

Five minutes later, Guinea attacker Morlaye Sylla's attempt was cleared off the goal-line by Ahmed Mohamed as pressure mounted on the Egypt defence.

Nevertheless, Guinea did snatch a late equalizer through Yamoudou Traore, who beat Mostafa in the 80th minute to ensure that the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Zambia U20 demolish Mali in seven goal thriller

Two braces from Fashion Sakala and Edward Chilufya, as well as goals from Emmanuel Banda and Enock Mwepu ensured Zambia beat Mali 6-1 in their 2017 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, Group B tie at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Wednesday evening.

The result means the hosts are on six points from two wins and top Group B, ensuring they have reached the semi-finals of the tournament, thus also booking a spot in the 2018 U20 FIFA World Cup in South Korea in May.

Despite a bright start by the Young Chipolopolo, it was the Young Eagles who grabbed an early goal as they silenced the crowds at the Heroes Stadium.

Skipper Abdoul Dante scored in the sixth minute when the hosts conceded a corner which was well drilled into the box, and the defender made no mistake with a powerful header, 1-0.

However, three minutes later, Beston Chambeshi's men leveled matters when Sakala made it 1-1 as he converted with a powerful header when Mali failed to deal with a cross in the penalty area.

In the 18th minute, Sekou Koita nearly scored after a brilliant pass into the box - the Malian forward had time to kill the ball and unleashed a shot which was parried away by goalkeeper Mangani Banda.

However, the hosts made it 2-1 in the 25th minute through Banda when he produced a powerful shot from a distance which beat keeper Samuel Diarra on his left corner.

Zambia continued to run riot in the contest as they scored their third goal when Mwepu finished a beautiful cross from the left flank by Chilufya in the 38th minute.

It was 3-1 t half time.

Upon their return from the tunnel, the hosts continued where they left off as they bagged their fourth - a cross resulted in a scramble in the box and Chilufya's header beat the struggling Diarra.

Good football dished out by the hosts and their good movement forward produced their fifth goal as Chilufya completed his brace four minutes later after receiving a great pass from Sakala on the left.

With the crowd pushing them on, Sakala also completed his brace with a clever run onto the edge of the box before taking a powerful shot which beat Diarra on his left post for the sixth time.

In the wake of the heavy loss, Mali now occupy the bottom of the group with one point and will now hope to beat Guinea in their final match whilst Zambia face Egypt.

South Africa, Senegal set for Ndola showdown

South African and Senegal will cross swords in their second Group B match at the 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

The teams will meet at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Thursday evening, kick-off at 18h00 CAT.

South African come into the clash high on confidence after a stunning 3-1 win over Cameroon in their opening match on Monday night.

Amajita found themselves a goal down early on against the Indomitable Lions, but a superb hat-trick from Luther Singh powered them to victory.

As for Senegal, they recovered from being both a goal and a man down to draw 1-1 with Sudan. It’s a game the West Africans would have been hoping to win, but under the circumstances a draw was an acceptable result.

A victory for SA would effectively seal a place in the semifinals and secure qualification for their first U-20 World Cup since 2009.

As for Senegal, they need the three points to ensure they appear at the U-20 World Cup for a second successive time: they made their debut in 2015 and went all the way to the semifinals before losing to Brazil.

The other Group B match between Cameroon and Sudan will precede the SA-Senegal clash and kick-off at 15h00 CAT.

Cameroon look to recover in Sudan clash

Cameroon will look to bounce back from defeat when they face Sudan in their second Group B match at the 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

The teams will meet at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Thursday afternoon, kick-off at 15h00 CAT.

The Indomitable Lions suffered a major set-back in their opening match on Monday evening, going down 3-1 at the hands of South Africa.

Eric Ayuk put Cameroon ahead in the match, but a hat-trick from South Africa’s Luther Singh ensured Amajita ran out victors.

With Cameroon desperate to return to the U-20 World Cup for the first time since 2011, they will have to defeat their Sudanese counterparts to remain in contention for a semifinal berth in Zambia.

Sudan, meanwhile, came within a minute of defeating 10-man Senegal in their opening clash.

Cameroon will start the game as favourites, but Sudan’s determined showing against the Teranga Lions shows they will be no pushovers.

Mali meet Zambia eyeing a win

Mali are under pressure to bag their first 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, Group A win when they meet host Zambia on Wednesday.

The young Eagles will be gunning to bag the full three points and ensure they are in the running for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in South Korea.

Sitting at the third spot with one point following their opening draw against Egypt on Sunday, the Ba Boye coached side will want nothing but a win.

Their 0-0 draw means Boye will bank on their discipline at the back as they have not conceded, but will have to work on finishing upfront.

“It will be a tough game against Zambia and we need to put in our best. It was important that we carried a point, I am happy with how the boys performed,” said Boye.

“The boys are very skilful, they just had difficulties playing in rain and also getting used to the pitch.”

Coming to the Zambians, Beston Chambeshi will also want a win to consolidate their top spot on the log table.

The hosts began their campaign with a 1-0 over Guinea and are now motivated to make it two wins at home.

Chambeshi and his technical team have received rave reviews from the government and Football Association of Zambia officials, and will now want to return the favours.

A win for the Zambians will mean they have secured a ticket to the youth World Cup in South Korea, although it will not be an easy assignment facing a desperate Mali.

Striker Patson Daka will be expected to find the back of the net as he did against the young Syli Nationale on Sunday at the same venue.

"Overall I am happy that my boys applied themselves well, they looked sharp and especially our goalkeeper our made two important saves,” said Chambeshi.

“In our collective play we were able to show that we have a strong team.

“It is a sweet victory and I am happy that we have started on a good note. We will now focus on our next match.”

The match will be staged at National Heroes Stadium at 18:00.

Now look at it from this angle. At the just concluded 2017 AFCON which our darling Super Eagles did not participate. The competition became a talk of the town in the Super Eagles thread. So I see no issue bringing the updates of a youth tournament which our Flying Eagles failed to qualify.

Amajita coach focusing on Senegal after Cameroon victory

by Phumzile Ngcatshe

South African U20 side demolished Cameroon 3-1 on Monday at the 2017 U20 Africa Cup of Nations and the coach Thabo Senong expressed delight in beating a good team.

Amajita saw their Afcon, Group B campaign getting underway with the full three points on Monday evening in Zambia.

Luther Singh netted three times to down the junior Indomitable Lions whilst Sudan and Senegal have one point apiece after playing to a draw.

In his post match interview, Senong praised his charges, saying the Cameroonians are a tough team, but the coach wants the same for their next tie against Senegal.

“Cameroon is a good team and displayed good intensity for the full 90 minutes, so I must say we won against a very good team,” said Senong.

“We played very well, and relied on our technical speed as our players are highly technical and use their pace properly. We won the match as we applied our tactics very well and concentrated the entire match.

“We are not here to talk about winning the tournament or qualifying for the World Cup, but our focus is to approach one game at a time.

“Now, our entire focus will be on Senegal. We won’t talk about the semi-finals or winning the tournament because we are working with youngsters, who can sometimes be inconsistent.

“The players played well, but we need to push them into the right ‘performance zone’ to make sure they just focus on Senegal. We will analyse their strengths and weaknesses.”

The South African match against the young Lions of Teranga is scheduled for Thursday at 18:00.

Machapa tips Caps to down DRC giants

Dumte Pyagbara of Nigeria shields ball from Oscar Machapa of Zimbabwe during the 2014 CAF African Nations Championships 3rd/4th playoff between Zimbabwe and Nigeria at Cape Town Stadium, Cape Town on 1 February 2014

AS Vita defender Oscar Machapa says Caps United are capable of beating Democratic Republic of Congo giants TP Mazembe in their upcoming CAF Champions League clash.

The five-time African Champions, Mazembe are out to defeat the Zimbabwean side in the first round qualifier next month.

Speaking to the News Day website, the big defender who was part of the Warriors' 2017 Africa Cup of Nations squad in Gabon, is currently in Harare on a break to attend to private matters.

Machapa admits the Ravens are difficult opponents to break down, particularly at home where several teams have visited and came out with their tails between their legs.

However, he said the fact that they are difficult to penetrate does not mean they are unbeatable.

“TP Mazembe are a very strong team especially when they are playing at home,” said Machapa.

“What I have observed from the time I have been in DRC is that they are used to their pitch and they play the type of football that suits them when they are at home.

“Most teams have often found it difficult to break them down. But this does not mean they can’t be beaten.

"Last season we beat them at their home, so they are not invincible. What is important is to have the belief.”

The opening leg will be staged in Lubumbashi on March 10 March with the return leg set for Harare for the 19th.

Niane denies Sudan three points

Goals from Hassan Hassan and a late goal from Ibrahima Niane ensured Senegal play to a 1-1 draw against Sudan in the 2017 CAF Africa U-20 Cup of Nations Group B match at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Monday afternoon.

The draw for the Senegalese means they bag a point from one match and will now hope to beat South Africa in their second game on Thursday.

As early as the first minute, the junior Lions of Teranga attacked the final third from a corner, but striker Niane saw his shot in the box over the cross bar.

However, in the 14th minute, Joseph Koto's men were dealt a huge blow when skipper Mamadou Diarra was red carded after committing a foul on Eid Abakar Mugadam, who was making a brilliant run into the box.

Three minutes later, the junior Falcons of Jediane received a penalty when Moussa Ba fouled Khaled Osman inside the penalty area and the Egyptian referee didn't hesitate to award a spot kick.

In the 20th minute, Hassan calmly converted from the spot beating Senegal goalkeeper Lamine Sarr on his right post making it 1-0.

Senegal pushed to find an equaliser and substitute Mamadou Mbaye came close to finding one when he connected with a corner from the right, but his header went inches wide in the 33rd minute.

It was 1-0 at the interval.

With 31 minutes remaining on the clock, Ibrahima Ndiaye beat two defenders in the box, but the forward saw his left-tooted strike coming off
the woodwork.

Sudanese keeper Alnour Saeed was the busiest in the second stanza as Senegal spent more time in his area, but the 17-year-old collected most aerial balls.

With two minutes to go, Senegal equalised when Niane scored from close range following an error by keeper, Saeed who spilled the ball in the box allowing the lanky forward to pounce.

In the end, both sides shared the spoils as the Sudanese now have one point next to their name in the group from one match and will meet Cameroon on Thursday.

Chambeshi: We are a strong team and I am happy

Beston Chambeshi

In the wake of their 1-0 win over Guinea in the 2017 CAF Africa of Cup of Nations on Saturday, Zambian U20 coach Beston Chambeshi says he is a happy man.

After a goalless first half, it was 'Man-of-the-Match' Patson Daka who scored the only goal of the game in the 48th minute.

Chambeshi said he was happy with the victory and singled out goalkeeper Mangani Banda for an outstanding performance.

“It wasn’t easy playing Guinea because their tactical approach was good. Overall I am happy that my boys applied themselves well, they looked sharp and especially our goalkeeper our made two important saves,” said Chambeshi.

“In our collective play we were able to show that we have a strong team.

“It is a sweet victory and I am happy that we have started on a good note. We will now focus on our next match.”

The hosts are leading Group A with three points from their win and will be hoping to make it two wins in a row when they face Mali (who drew 0-0 against Egypt) in their second Group A match on Wednesday in Lusaka.

Senegal gunning to down Sudan

The Senegal U20 side will be targeting a win as they get their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, Group B underway against Sudan on Monday.

The West Africans will be out to dispatch the junior Falcons of Jediane as they hope to reach the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup in South Korea in May.

On their road to Zambia, they lost once to Ghana as they managed to beat Tunisia 2-0 as well as a win over the Ghanaians in the first leg through a 3-1 win.

Upon their arrival in the Southern African country for the tournament, technical director Mayacine Mar believes the Joseph-Koto coached side can do well and reach the junior World Cup.

Although he is confident, he said they must be cautious of their group opponents, having lost 1-0 to Nigeria in the 2015 final.

“We have to qualify to the World Cup and after we reach the top two, then we have to go for the title,” he said.

Looking at the Sudanese, they have had a good qualifying campaign en route to Zambia and will hope to keep their good run intact.

They managed to secure a big win over Nigeria (4-3) and a 1-1 draw against Mauritius, but lost 1-0 to Angola.

Facing the Senegalese will not be an easy task considering the experience of the West Africans in continental tournaments, but they will also be motivated to reach the World Cup.

The match is slated for Monday, 27 February at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola at 15:00.

Cameroon and South Africa will face off in the 2017 Under Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group B game at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Monday.

Kick-off is at 18h00 CAT.

The young Indomitable Lions had to overcome Zimbabwe and Libya in order to qualify for this year's U20 AFCON finals in Zambia.

Team captain and midfielder Samuel Gouet and striker Eric Ayuk were some of Cameroon's star players during their qualifying campaign.

Cameroon have reached the U20 AFCON final five times. They have won the tournament once. They beat Burundi in the 1995 final in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, South Africa beat Namibia and Lesotho in the second-round and third-round respectively during the qualifying campaign.

Amajita have never won the U20 AFCON tournament. But they did reach the final in 1997 and they lost to tournament hosts Morocco.

Sibongakonke Mbatha and Liam Jordan are two of South Africa's dangermen upfront and they will be hoping to impress in Zambia.

Sudan and Senegal, who are also in Group B, will lock horns in the first match of the group on Monday.

Singh inspires South Africa to victory in U20 AFCON clash

Luther Singh of South Africa

by Austin Ditlhobolo

Luther Singh's hat-trick helped South Africa thrash Cameroon 3-1 in their first 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group B game at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Monday.

The victory took Amajita to the top of Group B with three points, while Cameroon are rooted at the bottom without a point.

The Young Indomitable Lions dominated the opening stages of the game applying pressure on the Amajita defence, while looking for an early goal.

Mondli Mpoto, the Amajita goalkeeper, produced two magnificent saves to deny Cameroon winger Ketu Jih Kalvin from close range just six minutes into the game.

However, Mpoto was beaten nine minutes later when a beautiful cross found Eric Ayuk Mbu at the back post and he headed home to make it 1-0 to Cameroon.

South Africa then pressed for the equalizing goal and four minutes they were awarded a free-kick after Sibongakonke Mbatha was fouled near the Cameroon box.

Luther Singh then fired the resultant free-kick into the back of the net beating Young Indomitable Lions' towering keeper Junior Dande to make it 1-1 for South Africa.

The momentum was now with Amajita and in the 25th minute, they were awarded a penalty after diminutive midfielder Mbatha was fouled inside the Cameroon box.

Once again Singh made no mistake as he stepped up and fired past Dande with a well-taken effort from the spot-kick to hand South Africa the lead for the first time on the night.

With his side trailing Cameroon coach Cyrian Besong Achu, decided to introduce Cendric Nganle Chenkam for Jih, but Amajita held on to their lead and they were 2-1 up at half-time.

The South African defence were put under pressure after the restart as the Cameroonians looked to level matters, but they were struggling to penetrate the backline.

Amajita extended their lead in the 57th minute when Mbatha's long ball sent Singh through on goal and latter dribbled past Dande, before hitting the back of the net to make it 3-1 to South Africa.

Duplexe Tchamba Bangou, the Cameroon defender, nearly scored an own goal in the 70th minute, but fortunately for him, his header went wide of the target with Dande looking on.

It was end-to-end in the late stages of the game as Ayuk burst into the South Africa box ten minutes later, but Wiseman Meyiwa's did brilliantly to stop the forward from netting his second goal.

Nevertheless, South Africa stood firm at the back in the dying minutes of the game and they emerged 3-1 winners on the night thanks to Singh's hat-trick.

Highly Rated Nigerian Teen Akammadu Net Brace For Cesena To Deny Fiorentina Victory

Italian-Nigerian forward Franklyn Akammadu was the star for the Primavera side of Cesena scoring twice to help them draw 2-2 against his former side Fiorentina.

18 year old Akammadu left Fiorentina for Cesena on a permanent deal in the summer for a fee in the region of €75,000 after a successful loan spell with the U-19s of the Serie B side.

So far he has proven to be a bargain buy with nine goals in 14 games in the Primavera League, a tally which has seen him make the step up to the main team, where he has made the bench in Serie B games.

Known for his speed and decisiveness in front of goal, the forward revealed his parents are from Nigeria, which lead to talks about a potential battle for his international future when he is fully established as a professional.

Already on loan Roma forward Sadiq Umar has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure that the forward plays for Nigeria ahead of Italy due to his potentials.

2017 U20 Africa Cup of Nations
Egypt & Mali play to stalemate

Egypt and Mali played to a goalless draw in their opening Group A, 2017 U20 Africa Cup of Nations match at the Heroes National Stadium in Lusaka on Sunday afternoon.

It was a rather sloppy game in heavy rain as neither side were able to create a fluid rhythm of play.

Instead, both sides squandered possession and were poor in the final third, with very few real goal scoring chances created.

The result leaves Egypt and Mali tied in second place in Group A, behind Zambia on three points while Guinea prop up the standings with zero points.

Zambia top Group A after beating Guinea 1-0 earlier in the day, at the same venue, courtesy of a second half goal from Patson Daka.

The next set of U20 Afcon fixtures take place on Monday as Group B gets underway with Senegal taking on Sudan while Cameroon will go up against South Africa.

Group A are next in action again on Wednesday, March 1 when Guinea take on Egypt and Mali face Zambia.

The hosts managed to bag the second half winning goal through Patson Daka.

Zambia started like a house on fire as they probed for an early goal, but the young Syli Nationale stood their ground.

Beston Chambeshi's men were cautioned when Boyd Musonda recived a warning when he fouled Ibrahima Sylla in the with one minute to go to the interval.

Despite pressure from the hosts, Guinea managed to absorb it and frustrated the Junior Chipolopolo as the Group A encounter failed to produce the goals in the first half.

However, the hosts nearly bagged the lead after creating three clear cut opportunities four minutes into the second stanza.

Chambeshi's efforts to motivate his charges came to fruition when they broke the deadlock in the 48th minute through Daka.

The win now takes Chambeshi's men to top spot on the log table with three points and will now be motivated for their next match against Mali on March 1.

Zambia out to down Guinea

Zambia U20 team

The Zambian U20 national team will be out to down Guinea in their opening U20 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, Group A encounter on Sunday.

Under the guidance of coach Beston Chambeshi, the junior Chipolopolo are targeting a win as they want to raise their hopes of lifting the trophy.

Playing in front of their home crowd, Zambia will be motivated to go all the way and make the country proud.

On the other hand, they will be boosted by their 2016 COSAFA Cup glory last year as they downed South Africa in Rustenburg.

Ahead of the tournament, they beat Amajita 2-1, as well as travelling to Europe to beat FC Basel and Tenerife juniors in friendlies which will give their confidence a major boost.

Chambeshi will bank on his prolific striker Fashion Sakala to cause all sorts of problems for Guinea come Sunday afternoon.

“We are a serious working team. My boys played well. It was not an easy game but what is important was to win, especially that this is our first game at home,” said Chambeshi.

“We need to maintain the same level. I can assure the nation that we have picked a team which will conquer the continent. It is a team which will give the nation a smile.”

Looking at the junior Syli Nationale, they will also hope to bag a win and stun the hosts in the opening group encounter.

The Guinean side have had a good run in the qualifiers as they managed to bag wins over Cote d'Ivoire, Gambia as well as Liberia.

Coming to the Southern African part of the continent pushes them to go all out for glory, but it will not be an easy feat to achieve.

The encounter will be staged at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Sunday at 15:00.

Zambia reveals U20 AFCON squad

Zambia Players celebrates victory during the 2016 Cosafa U20 Youth Championship Final match between South Africa and Zambia

Zambian U20 coach Beston Chambeshi says it was not easy to select his final 21-man squad for the upcoming 2017 U20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Chambeshi announced his squad on Sunday as they will host the tournament in Lusaka and Ndola.

The Young Chipolopolo are in Group A with Egypt, Guinea and Mali while Group B has Cameroon, Senegal, South Africa and Sudan.

Chambeshi has named five foreign-based players in the team, including midfielders Kenneth Kalunga, Mumba Mwape and Emmanuel Banda.

“It was not easy for us [the technical bench] to come up with the final team. We cracked our heads a bit due to the high level of competition amongst players,” said Chambeshi.

“If we had a choice we could have kept all players but again we can’t go beyond CAF requirement.

“I can assure the nation that we have picked a team which will conquer the continent. It is a team which will give the nation a smile.”

Meanwhile, Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development, Moses Mawere said the mascot named Nkwazi symbolises the unity and hard work the nation has enjoyed since independence.

The tournament gets underway on February 26 until March 12 and the top-four finishers will qualify for the 2017 FIFA South Korea World Youth Championship in May.
