Sporting Lisbon Eye Nigerian Striker Theophilus Solomon As Hamburg Sends Scouts To Croatia As Well

The fine form of HNK Rijeka loanee Theophilus Solomon has caught the attention of more European based side with Sporting Lisbon and Hamburg, the latest side to be interested in him.

Solomon has been one of the driving force of modest side Istra, where he has struck four goals from six games aside picking up several man of the match awards.

His impressive form has also earned him two team of the week nominations from the first six games of the season in Croatia, where he is finally living up to the promise that made Rijeka snap him up as a 16 year old three years old.

Owngoalnigeria.com gathered contact have already been made with Rijeka, for his services by Sporting Lisbon although the Portuguese side are yet to firm up their interest beyond the inquiry they made over his availability.

The biggest interest appears to be from Germany where Hamburg have reportedly sent scouts to watch the 20 year old when Istra take on Rijeka this weekend.

Swansea City have scouted the player this season as well. All attempt to get across to his guardian and close confidant Mohammed Suleiman to confirm the strory proved abortive as his both lines were switched off.

Little Known Nigerian Teen Sensation Ogochukwu Frustrates Anderlecht In UEFA Cup Tie

Belgian giants Anderlecht were frustrated from picking up all three points in the UEFA Youth League by Danish side FC Midtylland in a 0-0 draw, with Nigerian Frank Ogochukwu starring for the Danes.

Ogochukwu spotting jersey number 18 played just in front of the defence of his team and, the teen midfielder broke up lots of incursions made by Anderlecht in their search for a goal.

He was also quick in turning defence into attack, making use of the ball while in possession with smart piece of skills that helped him turn away from his markers with ease.

18 year old Ogochukwu is angling to join a long list of Nigerian players who have featured for the Danish side in the last five years, with the duo Rilwan Hassan and Paul Onauchu still in the first team.

Midtylland also had another Nigerian on the bench for the entire duration of the game in 18 year old forward Samson Omonigho. A testament of their rich connection with Nigerian players.

Nigerian midfielder Tosin Kehinde played his first game for Manchester United U23s for close to a month in Premier League 2 but could not prevent the Red Devils from suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Everton on Monday night.

The outcome of the match was already decided when the 18-year-old subbed in in the 73rd minute.

CSKA Moscow Offers Second Trial Chance To “New Ahmed Musa” & Sani Suleman

According to reports exclusively gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com, the Nigerian duo of Bobai Bonet Junior and Suleiman Sani will be handed a second chance by Russian side CSKA Moscow.

They both had trials with the Russian side few months ago without bagging a deal, but report has it that they will once again try out with the team in the future.

”So many things didn’t go right with the trials. The club recognised that and they are willing to give them a second chance” He told Owngoalnigeria.com.

”The weather wasn’t friendly to them when they went for the trials, am not so sure but I think sometimes when it’s warm, they could return for further assessment by the club”.

Junior is widely regarded by associates as a prototype of CSKA Moscow former star Ahmed Musa, who made a record move to Leicester City this summer. Sani is a quick feet lighting forward who uses both feet to good effect.

The trials was organised for them by popular Nigerian intermediary Babawo Mohammed after a scouting tournament organised by the Jos born agent.

STORY OF MU’AZAM: Rated Above Success & Iheanacho In 2012, An Eagle Waiting To Soar

Not so many can flash their mind back to four years ago when the all conquering Nigeria Under-17 team of 2013 was been assembled by coach Manu Garba.

In 2012 one name stood head and shoulders above his peers, Ibrahim Alhassan aka Mu’azam was the talk of the team. He earned himself the nickname “New Kanu”, given to him by no other than the former Sport Minister of Nigeria Bolaji Abdullahi.

Abdullahi gave him the moniker after seeing the way the baby faced assassin took teams apart in friendly games and in their qualifiers against Niger Republic, where he scored a hattrick.

Tall, lanky and full of tricks, the nickname truly fits the young man who provoked memories of legendary Nigeria football star Kanu Nwankwo. Who also gained global attention after starring for Nigeria at U-17 level in 1993.

However what would have been the best pedestal for the then 16 year old to launch himself to the world, was truncated when he failed the mandatory age test for U-17 players.

His failed MRI test opened the door for the likes of Watford big money buy Isacc Success and Manchester City teen star Kelechi Iheanacho to make the step up as leaders of the team.

He returned to the team two years later when they graduated to U-20 but after a bit part role at the Africa Youth Championship. He was dropped from the World Cup squad.

While two of his former understudy are now part of the Nigeria senior national team.

Mu’azam has just six months of professional football under his belt, no thanks to so many disappointments beyond his control and, a now healed knee injury.

Now at Nigeria Premier League side Wikki Tourist. The Kano state raised ace who missed out on three deals to take his trade abroad two years ago, insist he is still focused on making the most of his career.

”I’m not at all bothered. Am focused on making the most of my career. Have made mistakes in the past aside the disappointments of missing out on the various youth teams of Nigeria” He told popular Kaduna journalist Mohammed Suleiman.

”The career of Iheanacho and Success inspires me a lot, I see them as my role model, by that I mean if they can be playing at such a high level, very soon I will join them Insha Allah.

”I have no regret about what happened in the past. The future matters most above all, and that’s where I want to focus on”.

AF Nigeria Belgium
Godwin Saviour star of Week 7 in Belgium

Nigeria forward Godwin Saviour has been named the star of Week 7 of the Belgian second division after he helped his club to a third straight win at the weekend.

The 20-year-old forward did not score when KSV Roeselare defeated Union Saint-Gilloise 2-1, but he was the best player on the park.

It has been a remarkable progress in three weeks for the Nigeria U23 international after a subdued debut in a 4-1 thrashing at Tubize in Week 4.

Saviour may now have scored two goals, but it has been his overall play that has caught the eye since his arrival from neigbours KV Oostende, who feature in the top league.

He plays with the team and his runs create space for his teammates to operate better.

Thanks to his influence, Roeselare are now second on the table with 11 points from seven matches, four points behind leaders Lierse.
Both teams clash at Lierse Sunday morning.

Watford helped Isaac's Eagles call-up

By: Sammy Wejinya

The Watford manager, Walter Mazzarri, has claimed that joining Watford helped Success Isaac get a call up to the Nigeria national team.

The attacker joined the Premier League club from Spanish club Granada on June 30 for €15million but has yet to be handed a first start by Mazzarri this season.

The former SSC Napoli manager however says he rates his Nigerian charge and has gone on to tip him to achieve important things in the future.

“We (at Watford) are very pleased for him and we think the club helped him to get a call up.

"He is a very young player and if he follows our mentality in this club, then we think he is going to have a very good future for Watford and for his national side,”

Mazzarri was quoted as saying on www.hertfordshiremercury.co.uk.

Mazzarri was also asked his thoughts on the African Cup of Nations with two Watford players, Nordin Amrabat and Adlene Guedioura, likely to be involved in the tournament.

Luckily for Mazzarri, Odion Ighalo and Isaac won't be missing any games, with Nigeria failing to qualify.

"Of course it isn't good for us but these are the rules.

“As a manager I would like to keep them here but we can't do anything different so we have to deal with it,” he said.

BAD NEWS: Nigeria Loses Key Player Leon Balogun To Injury Ahead Of Zambia Clash

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to take on Zambia without key central defender Leon Balogun who pulled out injured early during Mainz 05 clash against Bayern Leverkusen.

Regarded as the back bone of the newly assembled defence of new coach Gernot Rohr, his absence will no doubt create a huge vacuum in the Nigerian defence.

Balogun went off injured in the 9th minute with what looked like a suspected hamstring injury which will keep the dependable defender out for at least two weeks.

He is one of the leaders in the Nigeria defence, initially filling in at right back before being converted to a centre back where he distinguished himself in Nigeria’s last game against Tanzania.

Nigeria will on October 9 begin their campaign to be at the 2018 World Cup in Russia with a tie against Zambia in Ndola, in a group that also has Cameroun and Algeria.

More Misery For Super Eagles Invitee Musa Muhammed In Turkey

Super Eagles invitee Musa Muhammed is still waiting for his league debut for Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir one year after joining the team.

Since joining the team last summer he has only played four games all coming in cup games, one of which he was red carded, but within that same time he has played three times for Nigeria.

The former Nigeria U-17 and 20 captain was once again snubbed by manager Abdullah Avci in his match day squad for the game against Osmanlispor. As a matter of fact he is yet to be involved in any match day squad for the team in all competition since the start of this season, where they have played 7 games.

Unconfirmed reports has it that the 19 year old has been demoted to the B team of the Turkish side and isn’t even training with the main team, who are presently top of the table in Turkey.

His constant invitation to the senior national team at the expense of other players who are regular at their club side is currently one of the trending topics in Nigeria, with respected Turkish journalist Adnan Adem questioning the criteria used in selecting players in Nigeria.

NPFL Players Are Relevant To my World Cup Plans - Rohr

By Augustine Akhilomen

Ahead of the team clash against Zambia in Lusaka, Super Eagles Technical adviser, Genort Rohr has disclosed that the home based players will be part of his Worlup plans.

The German tacticians made a winning start to his senior national team job with a 1-0 win over the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo.

Having named players such as Jamiu Alimi(Kano Pillars), Emmanuel Daniel (Enugu Rangers) and Ikechukwu Ezenwa (FC IfeanyiUbah) in the squad that confronted Tanzania, it's expected that more of the Nigeria Professional Football League players could be giving a chance to prove their worth in the team.

However, Rohr has admitted that the NPFL would be giving equal chances in the team just as their foreign pros in the World Cup qualifiers.

"I am not loosing sight on the players playing in the Nigeria Professional Football League because they are vital to my World Cup plans. As you are aware that we invited three players against Tanzania and I believe more of them would be part of the team," Rohr told Soccernet.com.ng.

"We are working tirelessly to ensure that we select the best players that will be useful for the task at hand. I am not particularly focusing my attention on the foreign based players because they play in Europe or better than the home based players but due to their experience.

"What we need at this point is collective responsibility and I believe the NPFL players will be relevant to my dream of building a solid Super Eagles." he said.

Nigeria will face Zambia in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Lusaka on October 9 and the Super Eagles list is expected to be released next week.

2018 World Cup: Super Eagles Attack Must be Ruthless Against Zambia - Amuneke

Ex international Emmanuel Amuneke has said, in a recent chat with Soccernet.com.ng, that if Nigeria must qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the Super Eagles attack must be sharp and ruthless in front of goal against Zambia.

The team will begin their quest for a place in Russia when they face the Chipolopolo of Zambia on October 9 in Lusaka and a convincing victory for Nigeria would put the team head above their opponents such as Algeria and Cameroon in the group.

Despite having the likes of Odion Ighalo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ahmed Musa, Victor Moses, and Brown Ideye, Nigeria has always struggled to score goals against teams in Africa during qualifying matches. Gone are the days when players such as late Rashidi Yekini, Daniel Amokachi, Samson Siasia, Victor Ikpeba and Efan Ekoku rocked the headlines with goals whenever they represent their fatherland in international competitions.

However, Amuneke who won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia and also led the Golden Eaglets to win the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile insisted that the Super Eagles strikers must be ruthless against teams, starting with the game against Zambia in the 2018 World Cup qualifier.

"I am not particularly happy with the way and manner some of the Super Eagles strikers have been playing for the team. I can't imagine a situation where we have quality strikers who still end up struggling to score goals whenever they are called upon to represent their fatherland."

Amuneke told Soccernet.com.ng.
"With players such as Odion Ighalo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ahmed Musa, Isaac Success, Brown Ideye and Victor Moses I expect nothing but goals irrespective of the teams they face. However, they often struggle to score a goal, something which can be witnessed in the team's failure to qualify for 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. I must confess to you that if the Super Eagles must qualify for the World Cup, our attackers must be clinical in front of goal.” He concluded.

Exclusive: Ikeme Remains Super Eagles No. 1 Goalkeeper - Agu

By Augustine Akhilomen

Ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Zambia, Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Alloy Agu has thrown his weight behind the team's goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme despite reports of a possible recall of Vincent Enyeama to the squad.

The senior national team have been relying on Ikeme since making an impressive appearance in his debut match against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in 2015 under former boss, Sunday Oliseh.

Enyeama who was regarded as one of Nigeria's best goalkeepers, retired from the round leather game due to an unfriendly relationships with Oliseh. The former captain was in goal as Nigeria won their third Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 and also part of the team to the 2014 World Cup where the team lost to France 2-0 in the round of 16.

Although there have been rumours of a possible return to the Super Eagles by the technical adviser of the team, Genort Rohr in a bid to beef up the goalkeeper department, however, Agu told Soccernet.com.ng that Ikeme still remains the choice of the technical crew ahead of the their World Cup qualifying clash against Zambia in Lusaka on October 9.

"There is no argument that Vincent Enyeama is a quality goalkeeper anytime and anyday.

During his time with the team he was always at his best. However, our attention is focused on Carl Ikeme who has done a good job since the retirement of Enyeama," Agu told Soccernet.com.ng.

"It will be unfair to start comparing the two goalkeepers because I don't think that's necessary. What's paramount at this level is that Ikeme still remains the safest hands of the Super Eagles and I can assure you that barring any unforeseen circumstances, he'll be in goal against Zambia in the World Cup qualifier on October 9."

Zambia Won't Escape Super Eagles rout - Shorunmu

By Augustine Akhilomen

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu has said that he's excited with the calibre of players invited to the team, insisting that the Chipolopolo of Zambia would have no hiding place in Lusaka.

On Thursday, team's coach Genort Rohr named a formidable squad that would tackle Zambia in a 2018 World Cup on October 9 in match day one, with the regular players such as captain, Mikel Obi, Ahmed Musa, Ogenyi Onazi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Carl Ikeme, Victor Moses, William Trust-Ekong, Leon Balogun, Alex Iwobi and Elderson Echiejile in the squad.

Nigeria will be hoping to begin their campaign on a winning note in a bid to have a strong hold of the group which also has Algeria and Cameroon in it.

Shorunmu, a top notch goalkeeper in his playing days told Soccernet.com.ng that the current blend of players in the Super Eagles squad have all it takes to get maximum points in Lusaka.

"I am realy impressed with Genort Rohr's Super Eagles list for the Zambia clash. Atleast there is an element of consistency in terms of the players he first invited against Tanzania," Shorunmu told Soccernet.com.ng.

"I have this believe that this team is good enough to rattle Zambia in Lusaka, meaning Nigeria can smile home with the maximum points because I don't see them escaping defeat.

"There is no denial that the game won't be easy for Nigeria, however, I am optimistic the team won't disappoint us," he said.

For Osimhen, everybody knows he is one for the future, it’s not to his best interest if he is once again called up and later dropped from the match day squad. He will definitely be involved with the team in subsequent games but for this tie, we need players with big game experience.

Awaziem is another for the future, the dicey nature of the clash against Zambia made his omission a no brainer. Kenneth Omeruo took his place. You can’t place them on same level when you are talking experience

Godwin Saviour fires Belgian club to first win of season

Nigeria forward Godwin Saviour opened scoring for Belgian club KSV Roeselare as they recorded a massive 2-1 away win at front runners Lommel United.

The win lifted Roeselare off the foot of the table with five points from as many matches, while Lommel stay in second place on eight points.

It was also their first win of the season.

Saviour, who has represented Nigeria at U17, U20 and Olympic team levels, scored his first goal after 28 minutes, when he controlled a loose ball inside the box before he fired home.

Lommel then drew level seven minutes, before Roeselare grabbed the match winner on the hour.

Last week, Saviour made his debut in a 4-1 thrashing at Tubize.

On Saturday, they will be home to Cercle Brugge.

I'm still trying to find the words to coin the title of the thread, but the objective is simple: This is a thread to discuss the progress of our young players abroad, just like Orkpekyandega suggested.

With the inability of our U17 and U20 players to qualify for the continental, and subsequently global, competitions, the former threads have been rendered inactive. This means that we are poised to miss the emergence of another generation of very promising players in the mould of Iheanacho, Isaac Success, Osimhen, Nwakali etc, but this thread aims to scout the ones who are fortunate enough to find themselves abroad and thus distinguishing themselves.

Welcome
