Flying Eagles Now To Leave For Khartoum Thursday

‎ By NAN

Flying Eagles

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has shifted the Flying Eagles departure for Khartoum for a 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sudan, an official said on Tuesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the national under-20 male football team was earlier scheduled to depart Nigeria on Wednesday for the first leg match of the qualifiers.

However, Adewale Ajayi, the team’s Media Officer, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the Flying Eagles would not be leaving on Wednesday as earlier scheduled.

“The team will now be departing Nigeria for Khartoum on Thursday at 12 noon aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

“The reason for the delay might be due to ticketing issues,’’ he said.

Ajayi said the delay would however afford the team the opportunity to fine tune its strategies and tighten all loose ends concerning the trip.

“The team will now have one last training session on Wednesday before departing for Khartoum,’’ he said.

NAN recalls that the team had been billed to leave on Wednesday, after a friendly on Tuesday evening, which they won 2-1 against City Strikers FC of Abuja.

NAN also recalls that the match against Sudan was earlier fixed for Friday, but has now been moved to Sunday from 8 p.m. by the Sudanese Football Federation.(NAN

TheGoodJoe:
[b]El-Kanemi's teenage sensation, Bata, turning heads in the NPFL

By Uchenna Iyoke

The Nigeria top-flight has, in the past, churned out top talent and witnessed some of the best schoolboys play in the championship. That trend has continued into this present day as the like of Godfrey Oboabona, Ahmed Musa, Brown Ideye and Efe Ambrose all cut their teeth at some point in the country's top division, now the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

These quartet have gone on to become key members of the Nigeria national team, the Super Eagles. But there are now emerging talents in the NPFL. One of such new names is El-Kanemi Warriors attacking winger, Hussaini Bata Mohammed. The youngster is already being branded Messi by supporters of the Maiduguri club.

Of course the nickname, Messi, bestowed on the right-footed winger comes from the fact that he has a semblance in physique to the FC Barcelona and Argentine superstar. Add to that, Bata has enough pace in him to burn as evident in matches he has appeared in for El-Kanemi Warriors this season.

Bata was promoted to the top-flight from El-Kanemi Feeders on the eve of the start of this season by coach Issa Ladan Bosso, who was impressed by the player's interpretation of the game. He made his debut in the 0-1 loss to Wikki Tourists on match day 1. However, since the Warriors returned to their home soil in Maiduguri, Bata has been in outstanding form, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

The petite winger played two seasons with the club's feeders before his promotion. He has now started in all matches since his newfound form after their return to home ground. Teams like Shooting Stars, Ikorodu United, Kano Pillars, Warri Wolves, Abia Warriors and Lobi Stars have experienced the crafty moves of the youngster, who Maiduguri football fans prefer to call Messi. His NPFL performances in the colours of El-Kanemi have already earned him man-of-the-match awards on three occasions.

The 16-year-old, who is enjoying loads of playing times in recent match days is thankful to Bosso, the man who showed so much belief in him and handed him a shot at top-flight football.
"I will like to thank my coach for giving me the chance not minding my age. I will give my best to ensure my team finishes in the top-five. Though it is a difficult task (achieving a top-five finish) but with hard work we can achieve it," Bata told npfl.ng.

Bata's low centre of gravity allows him to attempt crafty moves from the flanks like Messi, the superstar, who he is nicknamed after. He is always a threat to defenders, as he is a fast dribbler and often hits low crosses. Most of his goals, this term, have come from close range finish because of his sleek nature and positioning.

The youngster like every footballer is ambitious. He believes that a call-up to any of the national teams will come at the appropriate but wants to continue his development by featuring in more matches for El-Kanemi.

He added that his family has been a major source of motivation in his fledgling career so far. Bata admitted that he always feel obliged to give his best as a way to repay his family for their support.

"I am yet to play for any of the national team, though I believe my game will pave the way for a call-up. For now, I want to play more games, show my skills and score more goals. My parents and siblings watch me play always. So I don’t want to disappoint them. They are great sources of encouragement to me," he said.

Somehow those sources of encouragement has made the youngster fearless. Bata despite his small physique is ready to have a go at defenders, no matter their sizes in physical structure. Certainly the youngster must also be pointing to those popular words of Mark Twain that 'it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of fight in the dog' that matters.

Bata said: "I can take on any defender, especially when you look down on me because of my size, although I respect our defenders for their qualities."

So when match day 25 gets underway this weekend across nine venues in the country, just watch out for El-Kanemi's number 37 line up with his teammates against the NPFL champions, Enyimba, in Umuahia on Sunday.

Good one. I like it this way men. The foreign born stars are doing it, the home based ones are not left out too. Good work Sir. Lets unravel them for the world to see.

Coaches of the Nigeria U20 team, the Flying Eagles, have not been paid their salaries for seven months and counting, AfricanFootball.com can specially reveal.

AfricanFootball.com can also confirm that neither have they been paid their bonuses and allowances, same also with the players despite progressing to the final round of qualifiers for the 2017 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.

A top management staff of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) told AfricanFootball.com: “It has been a tough period for us (NFF) because even the Flying Eagles coaches have not been paid for about seven months now.”

The NFF top-shot was responding to a question about whether they have started paying the monies owed the late former technical director, Shuaibu Amodu.

While refusing to confirm if they had fulfilled their financial obligations to the late former Nigeria coach, he however admitted that they ‘still owe’ some coaches.

“The truth of the matter is we still owe some coaches but I cannot confirm what you’re asking right now,” he added.

Further investigations have also revealed that the Flying Eagles are yet to be paid bonuses for the wins over Burundi in the second round of the U20 AFCON qualifiers and neither have they been given their camp allowances.

EXCLUSIVE: NIGERIA U-17s CAMPED IN MOSQUITO INFESTED HOSTEL WITHOUT ELECTRICITY

The 60 selected players from the screening exercise of the Nigeria U-17s are presently camped in the hostel of the FIFA Goal Project, a facility infested with mosquitoes and without electricity supply.

Owngoalnigeria Ahmed Ishaya who visited the team’s camp yesterday evening gathered from officials of the team and some players that the facility have no provision for public power supply and they only get to use electricity when the power generating set is turned on.

“We don’t have light here to power the fans for ventilation, charge our phones or other devices unless the power generator is turned on and sometimes we go days without light if there’s no fuel in it.

“The officials and players have to trek to villages far off to charge our phones and when you look at the bushy surroundings naturally you expect mosquitoes to breed well and that is the case, we have no choice than to sleep with them all over us”, a disgruntled official told Owngoalnigeria.com.

We gathered the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is cash strapped at the moment and for now can’t afford to cater for 60 players in a facility better than the hostel of the FIFA Goal Project.

Despite the inconveniences the players currently been assembled by coach Manu Garba have impressed on lookers with their performance especially the core of the team comprising of 22 players who are usually the first batch to train every morning.

Austria-born Nigerian wants to play for F’Eagles

’Tana Aiyejina

Austria-born Nigerian footballer Jeffrey Egbe has indicated his interest of playing for Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles.

Born in Innsbruck, Austria, to a Nigerian father, the 18-year-old midfielder has been in fantastic form for Tirol Academy, where he has honed his skills since 2012.

Egbe has caught the eye with his versatility, being able to play anywhere in midfield and attack. He models his game after his favourite player, the Frenchman Paul Pogba.

According to former Nigerian footballer Emmanuel Akwuegbu, Egbe can bring quality to the current Flying Eagles team.

“Even though Jeff holds an Austrian passport, he has always wanted to play for the country of his father. He is one of the best and exciting youngsters in Austrian football at the moment and I believe that playing for Nigeria will further enhance his career ambitions,” Akwuegbu said.

Born on March 27, 1998, the 1.87cm tall Egbe had played for the youth teams of SK Wilten, FC Wacker Innsbruck and Innsbruck AC before joining Tirol four years ago.

Talented Nigerian Teen Aaron Eyoma Resumes Training At Arsenal

Talented Nigerian winger Aaron Eyoma has resumed training with Arsenal U21s ahead of the forthcoming season.

The 18-year-old was present at London Colney on Tuesday as the young Gunners held their first training session since the conclusion of the 2015-2016 campaign.

Eyoma began last season with Arsenal U18s’ side but was called up for few games for the U21 team in the U21 Premier League, getting a taste of action against Derby County and Blackburn Rovers.

Born in London, the teenager is highly regarded at Arsenal, with the Londoners offering him a professional contract in the winter transfer market.

He was eligible to represent Arsenal in the Champions League and Premier League last term but did not make a single appearance for the first team.

Kelechi Nwakali: What Will He Bring To Arsenal?

Nigerian rising star Kelechi Nwakali has finally completed his move to Arsenal and has tweeted that a new phase of his life has begun at the north London club.

Interestingly, the starlet had arrived at London Colney alongside former Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu to meet with manager Arsene Wenger to sign a contract with the club but owing to FIFA’s regulations that do not allow the transfer of minors unless, within the European Union (enjoy the irony with UK exiting the EU), he could not feature for the Gunners last season. On 5th of June, the youngster completed his eighteenth birthday and thus could finally make the much-anticipated move to the Emirates Stadium.

Talking to the media he said: “I just came back from London, I have signed a five-year contract with Arsenal. So many teams were interested in me but it has been my dream at a tender age to play for Arsenal.”

Now that the deal is materialised, making Nwakali the second signing of the summer for the Gunners, let’s discuss his prospects and the level of expectations that could be entrusted to him.

Given Arsene Wenger’s knack to believe in youngsters, most of which have found success, the signing of Nwakali is certainly another addition after a detailed scrutiny. The Frenchman is strengthening his midfield after the departure of Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta, and Tomas Rosicky. The signing of Granit Xhaka and now Kelechi Nwakali is a reflection that Wenger wants to impose a serious title challenge next season by mixing youth with the reputed one.

(Photo by Alex Grimm - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images)

Nwakali is a box-to-box midfielder who is often compared to the former Arsenal skipper Patrick Vieira. He was the skipper of Nigerian Under-17 side that bagged the glory last year at Chile, scoring on three occasions. The then Diamond Football Academy star attracted interest from the big teams like Manchester United, Chelsea, Udinese, Sporting Lisbon, Olympiakos and West Ham United after he was adjudged the player of the tournament.

In the shape of Nwakali, Monsieur Wenger will have to option to throw a youngster who has an impressive range of passing, strong physique, energetic presence and enormous confidence into the first team squad. The 2015-16 season was a breakthrough season for his fellow Nigerian Kelechi Iheanacho, so will the next season be the same for Kelechi Nwakali?

Nwakali would get into the central midfield slot which has been a long-term problem for Arsenal. A young gun with enormous potential, Nwakali is a player Arsenal needs at the moment to tighten the screws going into the fresh season. Of course, he could be yet another flop in the list of youngsters who never stepped up to the scene, but he does have what it takes to make himself count.

We are all hoping he goes the Iwobi route, though. Apologies for this not being a more detailed scout report as per usual but unfortunately we would not find much more on this Nigerian. If any of our Nigerian fans know any more about him, please feel free to comment below.

NFF Continues To Axe Gee-Lec Football Academy Players From Golden Eaglets Squad

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that a player on the books of Gee-Lec Football Academy Jos was dropped from the Golden Eaglets squad undergoing screening in Abuja on Monday for allegedly falsifying his birth documents.

Eagle-eyed Nigeria Football Federation officials discovered that Kenechukwu, who is a striker, traveled to the United Arab Emirates, where he tested with Al Orooba in 2015 and wondered how he could be claim to be less than 17 years.

Manu Garba and his agent Babawo Mohammed had advised Kenechukwu about two weeks ago to leave the camp immediately when news first broke of the bribery scandal involving the Nigeria U17s coach and his associates as the heat was on them but he stayed behind.

If the Nigerian Federation instructed the U17 Team Secretary Tayo to fish out Babawo’s players and send them packing from the camp, then he is due for a promotion as majority of the Jos-based agent’s clients have been axed from the team apart from those with dummy academies.

And Tayo is catching his fun while being serious with his job, coming to training day every day and listening to Yoruba music.

He recently bundled out one of Babawo’s players from the camp after he discovered that he attended the Golden Eaglets screening when Amuneke was coach.

Talking abt 13yrs old Peter Ogaba of 1987. Go back and watch d games of dat tourney. grin
Ogaba was reported to have retired at 26. grin

Abeg make dem free this kid for now. They should just prepare him for the 2019 U17.

I trust Manu Garba to do same.
I expect him to give the lad a training opportunity with the U17 guys. Just to make him feel more Nigerian.

But the allegations of bribery and corruption against Manu led technical crew is growing out of hand.

NIGERIA U-20s DEFENDER ZAKARI BATTLING TO BE FIT FOR SUDAN TIE

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria dependable defender Lukman Zakari is an injury doubt ahead of their 2017 Africa Youth Championship qualifiers against Sudan.

Zakari played through the pain barrier in their last game against Burundi where he emerged as the man of the match but has only trained thrice since the start of preparations for the game against Sudan in three weeks time.

17 year old Zakari who signed a pre contract with Tunisian side Sfaxien missed the team’s 4-3 win over the Nigeria U-23s due to the injury although he was seen at the stadium going through his paces with the aid of the team doctor while the game was on.

In his absence the central defence duo of Ejike Ikwu and Samuel Opeh have so far lived up to expectation although coach Emmanuel Amuneke can’t wait to have Zakari back after his displeasure at the way they conceded thrice against the U-23s on Saturday.

A member of the U-17 winning team of 2015 he is rated as one of the best teen defensive prospect in the youth team set up of the Nigeria national team.

American-Born Whizkid Ripe To Play For Nigeria U17s, Says Dad

Lateef Omidiji Jr’s father says theFC Dordrecht striker has all the qualities needed to succeed at the Nigeria U17s, amid suggestions that he could be handed an invitation to the team in the not too distant future.

Should Nigeria qualify for the 2017 Fifa Under 17 World Cup as widely expected and Omidiji makes the Golden Eaglets roster, he won’t be the youngest-ever player to feature for Nigeria at the tournament.

A certain Peter Ogaba was two months shy of his 13th birthday when he made Nigeria’s roster for the 1987 FIFA U-16 World Championship hosted by Canada.

“Do I think he’s ripe enough and play with the Nigerian U17s? Absolutely, he has the technical skills to compete with anyone,” Lateef Omidiji Sr told
allnigeriasoccer.com.

“Is he as big as most of our U17s? Probably not but his technique is unquestionable. He is 12 right now and plays against U15s and by the time the U17 WC comes by in India September 2017- I have no doubt that he will be of size but technique wise- he can complete.

“He plays against some of Europe’s elites and gets trained by former Dutch internationals who have taken him under their wings because they believe in him.”

Lateef Omidiji Jr has been scouted several times by Nigeria U15s coach and might be called up to the squad this year.
