olajide_07: Okay I mixed it up then sorry more info please
doziej84: pls what type of wares do you exhibit at international events b/cos am kind of looking at going into that area and also what type if international events. i.e examples
olajide_07 and doziej84, my first ever international exhibition was the 8th All Africa Games in 2003 (COJA). I paid for a stand at the games village, displayed my remaining boxes and spiced up my stand with africana wears. I got the wears on credit from the wuse mallams (was able to get the clothes on credit because of the box shop I had at the time in wuse market). After 2 weeks of COJA I made over a million naira. I then rented a second shop in a hotel and went full force into africana wears.I used to in those days travel to lagos to balogun market, buy ghanian materials and mix it up with the already sewn clothes from the mallams to sell at exhibitions and in my shops.

Other international events I paid to exhibit were the AU(African union) meeting, African architects meeting and a host of others that I can't remember now. There were also some notable national annual meetings that I also exhibited at like accountants annual meeting, lawyers and teachers. I did not make as much profit from these as the international but it kept things moving while waiting for an international event to come. Exhibiting is not easy though, one has to always watch the news, read newspapers to know when the next meeting will be held and in which state. One also has to have funds to pay for the stands.

In the beginning when I started exhibiting, my friends made fun of me as per me a graduate selling wares but when I opened my second shop and bought my car they all shut up.

Least I forget, other exhibitors at the events I attended sold books, CDs, sculptures to name a few.

olajide_07: Mehn from the sales of boxes seriously can this be true the level of competition is deafening the whole of area 7/10 is filled with bag sellers, wuse market parts of wuse II, banex adetokunbo ademola are all selling these things gardens are being used as event selling points for different things so plz don't try and tell me u are trying to generate a pull from us or potential investors just be as frank as possible let's see the figures and the numbers confirmation
Sorry if my post was not clear enough. From my post I made my money by exhibiting wares at international events. I stopped selling boxes after the ban by customs. Please read my post again.

After changing 6 jobs in 2 years after my NYSC; I decided I was destined to be my own boss and not soneone's staff. I used the funds I had gathered over the course of 2 years to travel to dubai and buy travelling boxes for sale in naija. First trip was torture didn't make much gain but didn't lose either. My second trip coincided with customs banning of imported travelling suitcases and boxes. Need I say I lost all my profit(had to pay 1.2m to get my goods out). As luck would have it a not so educated woman introduced me to exhibiting that is selling wares at international events. Made my first million in the first internatioanl event I attended. Within 3 years of exhibiting at events, I opened two shops, employed 3 staff, bought a beautiful ride, rented an apartment in one of the most expensive areas in abuja and continued with exhibiting at events until God brought my life partner to me. I have sinced stopped exhibiting due to relocating to europe to live with my spouse.

D'Banj, the Nigerian pop star, headlined a show of African music at Irving Plaza on Sunday night.
By JON CARAMANICA

Published: February 23, 2012

There was talk of kokolets all Sunday night at Irving Plaza. D'Banj, the Nigerian pop star who was headlining the show, boasted, "I have too many kokolets around the world." Later on he wondered, "Can I get two kokolets that can dance better than my dancers?"

If it seemed like D'Banj, one of the quickest-rising stars in Africa, has a one-track mind - kokolets, in his lingo, are beautiful women - that wasn't far from the truth. As a style, his was as monomaniacal in focus as Miami bass, one lusty come-on after the next.

He is at the forefront of an emergent style loosely called Afrobeats by some, a mélange of hip-hop, R&B and other traditionally urban sounds with elements that hark back to older African styles.

In practice on Sunday all that meant was that D'Banj, backed by a live band, was a thoroughly accessible pop star. He emerged in a gold-sequined dinner jacket and began the night with a harmonica solo of "My Love Is Your Love," the austere Whitney Houston hit. Before long he was undulating around the stage, his microphone at his crotch when it wasn't at his mouth.

Switching back and forth between singing and rapping, primarily in English, D'Banj was never less than enthusiastic, an entertainer above all, and one used to much larger stages than this one.

Accordingly, the show had the feeling of a significant event. The crowd was slickly dressed, skewing young and African. Outside before the show a correspondent for the Lagos radio station Cool 96.9 FM was recording a report on the scene.

Along with the producer Don Jazzy, D'Banj recently signed to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music label, a rare example of a mainstream contemporary African star being given an opportunity to work with an American record label. Mr. West recently performed with D'Banj in London.

But that's just one step in an evolution that's been unfolding for some time. Mo' Hits Records, D'Banj's home label, has a range of young talent, and during this show several label mates shared the stage with him: Don Jazzy, the brawny crooner Wande Coal, the limber dancer Dr. Sid (who came onstage to Dr. Dre's "I Need a Doctor"wink, the quick-spitting rapper Ikechukwu, the deeply charismatic D'Prince, and more.

D'Banj was the main attraction, but there was plenty of stage sharing among the crew. Wande Coal was particularly impressive, sometimes attacking a song with force, other times caressing it with a soft coo. D'Banj was maybe less nuanced, but that was very much the point. After one song that sounded like what would have happened if Michael Jackson had recorded a Nigerian highlife record, he shrugged and said, "It's not my fault that I'm bad."

I rephrase my last sentence

We need to rediscover our true ancestral God or gods. Only then can we find peace and progress.

@ pagan, by black God I meant our ancestral God or gods as some would say. Would it help if I had said dark brown God?
Christianity EtcRe: Christianity Vs. The Old Gods Of Nigeria by blackcat1: 2:10pm On Feb 17, 2012
Please see the book of Deuteronomy chapters 27 and 28 start from verse 15 of chapter 27 and read the whole 2 chapters.

I have however pasted some verses from chapter 28 that really caught my attention.

49 The LORD shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;

50 A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor shew favour to the young:

64 And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.

65 And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind: (Blacks suffer in the hands of whites and other nations all over the world)

68 And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you. (The era of slave trade)

Please read the book of Deuteronomy chapters 27 and 28 it will open your eyes. Also pass it on to any Black man, woman or child. We need to know the truth and why we have the problems we have.

We need to rediscover our true black God. Only then can we find peace and progress.

So I got this in my email this morning…

They call the Third World the lazy man’s purview; the sluggishly slothful and languorous prefecture. In this realm people are sleepy, dreamy, torpid, lethargic, and therefore indigent—totally penniless, needy, destitute, poverty-stricken, disfavored, and impoverished. In this demesne, as they call it, there are hardly any discoveries, inventions, and innovations. Africa is the trailblazer. Some still call it “the dark continent” for the light that flickers under the tunnel is not that of hope, but an approaching train. And because countless keep waiting in the way of the train, millions die and many more remain decapitated by the day.

“It’s amazing how you all sit there and watch yourselves die,” the man next to me said. “Get up and do something about it.”,

FamilyRe: Would You Marry A Girl You Don't Love Out Of Pity After Dating Her For 10 Years? by blackcat1(op): 11:56am On Dec 02, 2011
To be honest my friend is a gentle guy. He has on numerous occasions told her it won't work. The girl would then call his family and do everything possible to make sure the relationship went on (cry, cook for all the guys friends, give him toto and so on). He tried to break up with her when they were 5 years together, girl refused to leave. He tried to parade another girl in front of this girl, girl intimated the new girl to the extent of bribing the police to beat up and lock up new girl for 3 days (this happened when they were 5 years in the relationship). In the 7th year guy again tried to break up again nothing worked. Every move he makes girl follows. Every plan guy makes to leave;  girl will topple. My friend told me the girl is obsessed with him(he calls the girl one man army). The girl's family have told her to leave the guy, girl has refused. She said it is him or nothing. The guy's family finally told the girl to move on as they can't force him to marry her. Girl said it's him or no one. What should he do? Or should he just marry her out of pity?

Why did your friend waste her time for 10 yearshuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuh?
He did not really waste her time. He kept telling her it won't work but she did not believe him. Furthermore his family like the girl so they sort of kept forcing the guy not to break up the relation. He feels trapped and has again told the girl the marriage thing won't work but she does not want to reason with him.
