Nice stuff Ishilove. The challenge in the historical accounts of almost every African tribal group is historicity. We (Africans) have been too busy fighting each other, under-developing ourselves to be capable of knowing who we really are. It is, off course, very important that the Ukwuani people know whence they came; who they are. But, today, it is, in my opinion far more pertinent to know where they are going to collectively amidst stifling under development and brazen neighbors. You make me long for everything Ukwuani. Many thank for this! |
Igboid:Good for you, sir. |
quid:Laugh on sir! Your laughter matters very little to me but could mean a lot for you. |
I am Ukwuani only! Not because I hate Igbos or fear the "political" implication of being Igbo, as many Igbos persistently suggest but because I, and I dare say the vast majority of Ukwuanis simply want to be Ukwuani. There's even little need for discussing the historical ancestrage of the Ukwuanis (which, from oral transmission has very little to say about the Igbos) -- what really matters is how the Ukwuanis define themselves now and for the future. I read someone ask what it is that the Ukwuanis can bring to the Igbos that justifies the seeming pride. I admit that there really is little the Ukwuanis have to bring along and this is the more reason why they must chart their course independently. Nice job Ishioma!! Take it easy. No views but ours can define us. |
[quote][ The human brain and body alone, is something worth pondering on - if you think it was formed by mindless matter over great stretches of time, then that's up to you. /quote] And our pondering should naturally lead us to an intelligent creator?! A creator, I presume, has kept refining its creations over great stretches of time. Well... |
Deep Sight: The point is the improbability of the existence of something such as a house - absent a builder.I just can't seem to comprehend, probably for some fault of mine, how the appearance of a house is analogous to that of life and man. There are some utterly majestic caves, that have served as homes and fortresses to wild beasts and man. Do we stand aside and wonder if "mindless matter combined and coalesced over time to form the awe-inspiring (cave)"? |

"That which begins to exist" - a vacuous, sleight of hand attempt to introduce "that which always existed" and keep it outside scrutiny. |
Logicboy03: I couldnt agree more with you!Yes, I am. The Nigerian Humanist Movement. |
I mostly term myself irreligious in some variant or the other. Because that is what people can more readily breakdown. But, personally, I like to consider myself a humanist. I imagine that any coming together has to be under some humanistic name and agenda. Humanistic agenda because, that should get folks thinking - and hopefully lead to a reconsideration of the prevalent view that irreligious people perforce are immoral and inhuman even sub-human. l also think it is important to start small -- through some form of non-physical correspondence, build enthusiasm and a core group and move on quickly. |
It is punishing, hard to be irreligious in Nigeria and downright dangerous to profess it. But can the discrimination and prejudice against the irreligious be rolled back by forever acquiescing to religion? Does this acquiescence serve any positive ends, even if narrow? I have my doubts as to the benefits, even personal, of avoiding discrimination and prejudice by perpetually playing religious. |
2buff: So if you never commited a crime and you were punished for it because you were "going to/ predicted to" commit the crime 10 years down the road (without giving you a chance to choose for yourself whether you are trully going to)...is that a situation you would prefer? Thank God he does not judge based on "Minority Report"If you were a judge who knew, as an omniscient judge must, that, say Hitler irrespective and/or in the exercise of his freewill will perpetuate the Holocaust 10 years down the road, will you prefer to let him off satisfied that you have done the right thing? Unless, of course, you suggest that omniscience doesn't invalidate freewill and vice versa. You might also want to claim that the Holocaust could yet serve humanity a larger purpose, if it hasn't already done so. |
A single-term tenure elongation; states creation; LGA autonomy and pretty much all that was on the constitution review committee's agenda are not what this country needs -- they at best pander to our unending preference for "half bread". What this country needs in the absence of a sovereign national conference are: judicial, security and electoral reforms. If these can be accomplished with the former, then good. The former alone are totally superficial. Will do nothing to get this country on her feet much less walking. Unsurprisingly the later do not seem to be on the agenda; our "leaders" have no interest in seeing this country walk. Their concern is firmly elsewhere. |
