PapaBrowne:
How can 98% fail?? That is an indictment on the teachers, not exactly on the students!
Its also probably an indictment on NECO itself. There is something just not right with the concept of a 98% failure. Things cannot just be that bad.

Don't private schools also write NECO?? There surely are a lot of very standard private schools in Nigeria with very capable kids.
I really don't believe this figure. Except  maybe I'm so out of touch with the reality of the comatose Nigerian education system.

Nostalgic memories!! I Couldn't get enough of Voltron & Superted!!
Most private school students do not write this NECO GCE Nov/Dec exam, they only write the May/June WAEC and June/July NECO exams which they all  pass in flying colors hence no need of writing this other exams which are more difficult. They mostly write the SAT, ACTS, London GCE, TOEFL and other foreign exams after their high school graduation.

These NECO and WAEC GCE exams were actually meant for students who have  already finished their high school education but just need to retake these exams if they did not meet up with the five credits required for admission. You also need it for studying abroad as well and you must have received your secondary school certificate before purchasing these forms because they will ask you at the point of purchase.

But what do we have now? every tom, manliness and harry from SS2 and SS3 who have not even written their senior secondary school final exams are now taking GCE exams  in addition to the ones that are already graduated with their terrible f9's.

but sebi if we make enough noise they can soft-pedal now. . .
Off course but the ministers first need to refuse bribing them and if they don't want to approve then we have to protest till they do the right thing and for me i would have suggested the Asian style.

For now we could have protested about their salaries and outrageous benefits, my brother these same ministers need to bribe again before their budget proposal will be approved. This Ghana must go is very deep than the eyes can see like my brother redsun has been saying.

At least 10 people have been killed in an attack on a mainly Christian village near the violence-hit Nigerian city of Jos, officials say.

Eyewitnesses said houses were burnt and villagers were cut down with machetes.

State radio reported that the raiders were disguised as soldiers.
shocked shocked

State government spokesman Dan Manjang said the attack happened in Riyom area.

Hundreds of people have died in communal violence between Muslim and Christian groups near Jos this year.

Although the clashes take place between Muslims and Christians, observers say the underlying causes are economic and political.

stillwater:
Removing religion out of this is ridiculous.

Why the Jos issue is prominent is because Christians in the North have refused to the the 'turn the other cheek'. These conflicts did not start in January now. This issue is getting a world audience because there have been retailiations, if it were before where Christians 'turn the other cheek' the issue would have been "one of those occassional outbursts" that was doused not by the government but the siddon look, forgiving spirits of christians.
What is the root cause of this crisis?

This is terrible i really feel like crying, i just remember the good old days when it was a honor to pass your exams with your own personal ability.   sad

peacettw:
This has nothing and i mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the students. I am a graduate now (Medicine) but will never forgive NECO for their gross incompetece in giving me an F9 in Maths.  This was after i had gotten all As in my WAEC with an A1 in maths in both WAEC and GCE, an A2 in Further Maths and a Maths related scholarship. I ve thrown their certificate in the dust bin and i can't think of any better place for it than that. Nonsense
I understand you my sister but lets face the truth, their incompetence does not negate the fact that our education system has fallen down drastically.

Who are these men here yarning dust? Just think of your wife's dad moving in with you guys and telling you how to take care of his daughter at every turn. Puts it in better perspective huh?  grin
Shinatu:
About three other people have asked this same question but it has been ignored.
It has already be answered and for the benefit of doing it again for you ladies here is the answer.  grin FIL don't normally go and stay in their daughters or sons home after marriage. When ever a father in law comes you all know they never cause troubles and if they do we men can tolerate each other and we can always trash our differences like a man at the pepper soup or beer parlour joints.  cheesy

You ladies are just wishing but deep down in your heart you know the truth, after all why is it called a mans world? I have countless lady friend who tell me straight to my face that they cannot live together with another female. You all know when a new girl comes to a new area she finds it difficult to mix with the ladies there already but thats never so for a guy we all get along easily.

At the end of the day the truth should be told, the above topic is as a result of you ladies not being able to tolerate each other so stop blaming men as coward and try to resolve your female issues. but since you ladies always needs advice in this aspect of your life we the nairaland men are willing to donate our time and wisdom to help you ladies.

You are all welcome.  cool

PoliticsFormer Nysc Director Kidnapped In Akwa Ibom by BlackRevo(op): 2:02pm On Feb 01, 2010
A former Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Edet Akpan, was, on Sunday, kidnapped by unknown gunmen in his hometown, Iwok Nsit, in Nsit Ibom Local Government of Akwa Ibom State.

NEXT gathered that Mr. Akpan, a retired army General and leading member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, was taken away within the premises of his local Qua Iboe church, close to his private residence where he had gone to worship.

The armed men were said to have shot sporadically into the air before forcing him into a waiting car and drive him away.

Information has been sketchy regarding either the brains behind the kidnap or the reason, though reports said the action might not be unconnected with growing political intrigues playing out in the state in the run up to the 2011 governorship race.

Mr. Akpan was a prominent ally of former governor, Victor Attah, and a key player in that administration. He was also said to have been close to the incumbent governor, Godswill Akpabio, who appointed him Chairman of Universal Energy Limited, a company involved in the oil and gas business.

PoliticsNigeria's Oil Pipeline Sabotaged - Royal Dutch Shell by BlackRevo(op): 7:36am On Feb 01, 2010
Royal Dutch Shell has shut three oil flow stations in Nigeria's Niger Delta region after a pipeline was sabotaged, a company spokeswoman has said.

She said Saturday's leak on the Trans Ramos oil pipeline was confirmed "to have been caused by sabotage". The leak was later stopped.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

It came shortly after Nigeria's militant group Mend said it was ending the truce it declared last October.

An alleged group spokesman said Mend did not believe the government would restore control of resources to local people.

Mend has demanded that residents be given a greater share in profits from oil resources and land.

It warned oil companies to prepare for what it called an all-out onslaught against installations and personnel.

Analysts later said it was not immediately clear if this statement came from the whole of Mend - the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta - or just a faction that did not accept the offer of an amnesty from Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua.

Militants have carried out a series of attacks which have cost Nigeria millions in lost revenue over the years.

The attacks have meant that facilities in the area have been unable to work beyond two-thirds capacity, costing $1bn a month in lost revenue.

^^

I am waiting for you to site an example from the Nigerian cultures, when we say African culture you should understand that we do not mean the entire continent as a whole. We are simply saying that the practice is condemned to a significant level that nullifies the existence of its opposite.

We used to kill twin babies yesterday but we don't do that anymore so in condemning homosexual practices please look at it from the point of view of the modern era if it is still in practice in African and not the digging up of facts documented by who and in what manner to serve whose purpose?

Please lets cut this crap of she is 18 and she can decide for herself. The concept of adulthood at 18 is alien to our african culture. You need to bring the attention of your family to this new development so it could be resolved perfectly. Homosexuality is alien to us africans and must be condemned.

When i was shouting that we should stop blaming the VP for our problems and take matters into our own hands. People were castigating me for supporting a so called coward VP in their opinion. A capable president that was missing during the mutallab issue and the recent jos crisis is not capable of discharging his duties.

This is just the signal for a civil revolution against these evil people, i will be creating a thread for that soon.
