PoliticsRe: Mr President, Nigeria Is Going Down, Article By Simon Kolawole by blacksta(m): 2:48pm On Jul 20, 2009
Gbawe:
My sister , I am sorry to inform you that you are wasting your time pleading with Mr. President. A man cannot give what he does not have. Similarly , Yar Adua cannot provide the leadership he is naturally not endowed with. Blame OBj for imposing this inept fumbler on Nigeria. Yar ADua is an example of a weak and average individual who has gone further in life than his ability warrants because of a Powerful family name .

We all see Fashola performing well without Lagosians having to prostrate outside his home begging everyday !!! Lagos would be enjoying 24/7 electricity if clueless and vengefully insecure Yar Adua had heeded Fashola's plea for the deregulation of the power sector similar to what happened in the telcom sector!!! Most of our current leaders cannot do squat for Nigeria as they are not natural leaders. Many are criminals or mediocre men and women who have gained their current positions through nepotism, godfather backing , and other undemocratic 'kingmaking' practices. When we gain natural leaders through free and fair elections we will see that constant electricity, potable water, good healthcare, decent housing, etc are all not things Nigerians should have to beg for given our vast endowment as a nation.
I am sorry to say - that is going to be long time before the above happens.

PoliticsNigeria Doesn’t Recognise Kosovo, Says Yar’adua by blacksta(op): 8:27am On Jul 19, 2009
President Umaru Yar’Adua has assured Serbian President Boris Tadic that Nigeria will not recognise Kosovo as an independent nation.
Yar’Adua made the position of the country known at a bilateral talks between the Nigerian president and his Serbian counterpart at the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Sharm El Sheikh.
Kosovo, with about two million people of mostly Albanian ethnic group, proclaimed independence from Serbia in February 2008, in defiance of Serbia and Russia.
Yar’Adua said the decision not to recognise Kosovo was informed by Nigeria’s historical experience of the civil war of 1967 to 1970, fought to maintain its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
“Since the end of the civil war, Nigeria has continued to embark on nation-building policies and strategies to forge a heterogeneous, yet inclusive nation,” he said.
He expressed Nigeria’s desire to deepen and consolidate the existing bilateral ties with Serbia.
Yar’Adua further noted that under the old Yugoslavia, there existed strong ties of collaboration, which was to the benefit of the two countries.
He promised to revisit the closure of the Nigerian mission in Belgrade, saying Nigerian presence in Belgrade would facilitate the expansion and consolidation of economic and scientific cooperation between the two countries.
The Serbian president had earlier appealed to Yar’Adua to re-open the Nigerian Mission in Belgrade, pointing out that such move would help to deepen and consolidate ties between the two nations.
He enjoined Nigeria not to recognise Kosovo’s declaration of independence from Serbia, saying the country had referred the matter for adjudication at theinternational court.

He also urged Nigeria and other well-meaning members of the international court to await the judgment of the court, which he disclosed would be delivered 2010.

By the way this cross-country flight is an epic achievement, for it required of that youthful female pilot proficiency in instrument flying and a thorough understanding of aviation charts, which is mandatory when there is poor visibility and cloud cover, and which takes considerable time for even an adult to master.

Way to go girl.   Talk about flying colors !

PoliticsUnoffical One Party System In Nigeria by blacksta(op): 11:32am On Jul 18, 2009
Former aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other members of the opposition are applying, in droves, to join the PDP in an effort to have access to the party’s expanding machinery for the 2011 general elections.

Saturday Tribune’s investigation revealed that the recent setting up of an elders committee, headed by former Foreign Affairs Minister, Major Gen. Ike Nwachukwu, has provided impetus for such politicians, who want to capitalise on the ongoing reconciliation effort of the committee, to become relevant in the party.

The committee had been set up with terms of reference which include building on the reconciliation efforts of the PDP’s national leadership, speedy resolution of any misunderstanding that may still exist in states, encourage past and present political office holders to work harmoniously in the interest of the party and to create an atmosphere of peace and concord in the party.

It was understood that the committee, which regularly meets at the Legacy House in Abuja, has, since, been inundated with a deluge of requests by people who want access to the party, and now struggling to cope with the situation.

The governors of Zamfara State, Alhaji Mamuda Shinkafi and that of Bauchi State, Mallam Isa Yuguda, elected under the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), had already joined the PDP with their supporters, while Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State is said to be at the verge of dumping his Peoples Progressive Alliance ((PPA) to embrace the PDP.

Saturday Tribune found out that the major motivation is tickets for elected positions in the 2011 elections which would come only when they meet the requirement of, at least, two years membership of the party unless otherwise waived by the party executive of the level where they are contesting.

With less than two years to the elections, those who are not already members are now counting on such waiver to realise their ambitions when eventually accepted in the party.

“Everything is politics. They are aware that PDP is the only party capable of guaranteeing electoral victory in the country today. That is why they either want to come back or join from the small political parties,” a PDP source said.

However, the opposition has regretted the rush to the PDP, describing it as selfish and counterproductive to the desire to have a viable opposition in the country.

While the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) described the politicians as corrupt individuals in search of access to the nation’s wealth, the ANPP observed that their motivation was the need to ‘belong.’

Speaking to Saturday Tribune, the National Publicity Secretary of the CNPP, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, remarked that the rampant defection to PDP was to put the politicians within touching distance of “oil money,” noting, “the PDP is the only supply-line.”
