Four cement manufacturers write Jonathan for import license

FOUR indigenous cement manufacturers under the auspices of the Cement New Entrants Stakeholders have written to President Goodluck Jonathan, requesting him to grant each of them import license for five million metric tons of cement between now and 2015.

In a letter dated February 16 and addressed to the President, the four new entrants with own terminal: Prince David Iweta of Madewell Products Limited; Vincent Nehikhare of Eastern Bulkcem Company Limited; Chief Reagan Ufomba of Cement Company Limited; and Kola Sowande of Westcom Technologies & Energy Services Ltd, said granting them import license was a sure way to forcing down cement price to N1,000 per bag and breaking the current monopoly of a cabal in the industry.

iF GEJ really cares about the Nigerian Masses  - he knows what to do  - but rather he chooses to issue a directive to his friend begging them to reduce the price of cement.      

Who is he deceiving.

Cement manufacturers in the country have petitioned the Presidency alleging that the Ministry of Commerce had opened the gate for the importation of the product into the country, thus jeopardising their investments.

The petition, spearheaded by Alhaji Aliko Dangote is currently receiving the attention of President Umaru Yar'Adua, who has directed the Minister of Finance, Mr. Mansur Mukhtar, to constiuting the Committee, the Minister of Finance is on a fact-finding tour of cement plants in the country.

Prices of cement have been on the rise and government, in a bid to check trend, gave import licence to some Nigerians to import the commodity with a view to bringing down its price.


As a result, President Yar'Adua had last year lifted the ban on importation of bulk cement and granted import licences to six new firms along with the existing cement manufacturers to flood the market with the product and force prices down.

Another waste of time directive  - How does GEJ intend to achieve this.  I laugh in yoruba  . yet many Nigerians are rejoicing .  In this country sha we like to celebrate " MEDIOCRITY"  We dont live in dictatorship era - so it wont work in Nigeria .  This is not Venezuela.   We have all seen with the telecommunication industry how increased competition forces down prices and not dictatorship directive.  The monopoly of cement making has to be broken  - until then GEJ/Masses are wasting their time.  this time Next year a b\g cement will be 5000 Naira.  watch this space.

Nigeria on whole did not witness any meaningfull development except for some states.  Till today electricity and many more issues are still outstanding.  The lack of development was blamed on the  "UNKNOWN CABALS " some called them generator cabals other called it " TURAI " cabal.   These CABALs between (2007 - 2011) forever hindered any meaningful plans of the government ( So they say).


Fast forward " 2011 - 2015 "  The latest UNKNOWNS are now " the North"  hence any planned development programs will be scarified for the fight against these LATEST CABALS.

So far we are hearing "  NORTH PLANS TO DESTABILISE INAUGURATION DAY",   "NORTH WANTS TO KILL GEJ" , " NORTH WILL NOT ALLOW ME GIVE YOU LIGHT"   , " NORTH WILL NOT ALLOW ME SEE MY WIFE "

Nigeria is roughly 30 years ( if not more) backward in relation to infrastructure development and the continually celebration of mediocrity widens this gap.  The right Nigerians given the chance will surely transform our beloved country.

Please note BRF/Lagos state is not an exception.  Amaechi is doing a wonderfully job in Rivers . I visited Rivers state in 2008 for the first time and more recently in 2010 .  Rivers state is witnessing massive transformation , Schools rebuilt, Medical Centres rebuilt, equiped and at least 60% of the major road were tarred (April 2010).   

GEJ might be good man but lets be honest  - I dont think he has the intellectual capacity move Nigeria from the corrupt status quo. 


Whilst GEJ has spent the last three weeks discussing ZONING the likes of BRF and Amaechi continue to strive in the right direction




BRF  has gone to Canada to inspect ongoing train project that will improve the lives of the masses   


RiverS Sate Governor Rotimi Amaechi has unfolded the focus of his new administration after May 29.
He will complete ongoing school and hospital projects, get youths employed, hold more town hall meetings and ensure more transparency in the administration of the state.
In a statement yesterday Amaechi said: My focus is consolidation, complete what I have started. Don’t leave behind any project that can become an abandoned project.  Complete the secondary and primary schools, health centres, the Monorail, focus on the new city and ensure that we do the internal roads, provide potable water, provide public facilities, to complete the new university and the malls we want to build in the new Greater Port Harcourt city.
"We will focus on the general hospitals before we leave, but we believe we should take medical services to the people.

Though Bayelsa is sparsely populated, it is one of the states in the oil-rich Niger-Delta - an impoverished region enveloped by years of endemic sectarian violence and decades of environmental degradation. With its natural resources - Bayelsa has a sizable portion of the oil and gas that bankrolls the Nigerian government - and based on the data presented above, it is mind boggling why the state remains so underdeveloped and its people impoverished. It can be argued that because of its very difficult terrain (riverine, swampy, marshland with mangrove vegetation), the cost of infrastructure development in Bayelsa is several times that of a “dry-land” state.

This is a valid argument; however, with population of 1.7 million people, developing Bayelsa shouldn’t be a Herculean task - if the leaders know what they are doing. And this hasn’t been the case; with the likes of D.S.P Alamieyeseigha - the former governor, who’s now on trial for corruption - the fortune of the state has been grossly mismanaged.
