omonnakoda: You are ignorant. For one even if another port is to be built Ibom or Bomi is not the most competitive place in Nigeria. Lagos has been a long fought over point for centuries. Even in the SW Why have they not built another port in Ogun or Ondo Not to talk of Rivers or Bayelsa. Go and study your Geography well. The West Africa Coast line from Ghana through to Badagry to Lekki is a sweet evacuation line. After that as yu approach Ijebu Waterside you start to enter mangrove or Delta waterways and that continues further east. As you go east entering the Delta it becomes more difficult for bigger vessels to berth. There are two risks in the delta Large vessels will get bogged down or robbed by pirates as they ply more INLAND waterways. Yes some will say DREDGE but it is costly, often with unpredictable environmental consequences like flooding surrounding communities and dredging is not a PERMANENT solution. It will require regular RE-. Quality work is NOT cheap
The other issue is evacuation. Even Lagos today has an evacuation problem . You need infrastructure to evacuate; roads and rail and they cost money too. In an area full of disgruntled militants you also have to factor in a security consideration there are ports in PH and Onne why are they not being used. It is easy to talk but for those of us that have actually imported we know that few if any shippers are willing to ship anywhere but Lagos. Why It is cheaper . The Nose will always be jealous of the mouth and say the body can feed through me, this is true if you use a nasogastric tube.In fact medically you can feed through the RECTUM but easiest and best is the mouth it has NO RIVAL. Lagos is what it is because its coastline is different from EVERY other place in Nigeria including Ogun state its Nearest rival oterwise the logical place for a new SW port would be Ogun not Lekki since then you would be evacuating to Sagamu or Ore and thence onto the express. But Ogun Water side will require dredging and even with that many shippers just WON'T RISK IT. Their insurers will forbid it at least until the security situation in Nigeria changes. So I reckon haters gonna be hating for a long tym Eko oo ni baje I read you long epistle and to be frank with you, the point of evacuation you made is invalid Your sermon shows you haven't being to Akwa Ibom before |

rozayx5: if the seaport was solely a State Government project , trust Akpabio boys would have already had forwarding companies littered in Ibaka Donmarrius: That's a diff. Issue. An Ibaka port will automatically open up Nigerian border to the outside world, and hence, needs fed.regulation, unlike Imo airport which is inland, and needs approval before in't flight lands their.(think, you will understand what am saying) May I ask you guys one question If Akpabio had built it and approach GEJ to use federal powers to make it an international seaport will GEJ agree or not.? Please give me your answers with reasons. As for security issues, the navy has a base at calabar and also at a base close to bakassi Even ports make it difficult for smugglers entering easily due to the presence of security gadgets and personnel. |

We must apply quota system in ensuring that ethnic groups of few thousands are allowed to RULE Nigeria

Donmarrius: My guy, states do not av' the power to build in'l access routes into the country, federal government does.unless fed.approve of it,states won't do it.you av' got to lobby, and Akpobio has been doing it. You are wrong Do you know the late Sam Mbakwe of old IMO in the days of Shagari States can build and then lobby the FG to make it an international seaport Mark my words Jona would have quickly internationalized it |
Politics › Re: The Final Report On Ibom ( Nee Ibaka )sea Port In Akwa Ibom by BlackTechnology: 9:03am On Jan 31, 2015 |
Donmarrius: Well spoken.truth is that, the opposition against Gej,is more than what they are presenting to Nigerians. Same reason Oduah was blackmailed out of office, for stopping greater percentage of Igbos from using Lagos airport thereby dwindling the revenue acruing to Lagos from the airport, and increasing that of Enugu,by giving us Int'l airport. Gej is unlocking the economic potentials of what was known as the former eastern region, and some people are not happy about that. I av' told whosoever that cares to listen, that Akwa-abasi-ibom state, can rival lagos,if that port floats, because Igbos will channel their investments homeward,by using Ibaka port as export-import mega route, pending when Abia port floats. Mark it,any SS/SEterner that opposes Gej,must be a bastard. Akpabio/Akwa ibom state can bankroll the project.in fact, that project would av' been commission by now,had it been that its under state project. Projects such as Int'l entry points like Int'l Airports, and In't seaports, are in federal list, and not state government list, hence, its only federal government that can initiate the plan, and award the contract.states can only lobby for it,and may partake in funding. Sir I disagree with this part I highlighted red The State government should have built it . Then lobby the FG to make it an international seaport. That is what Mbakwe did when Shagari told him that he can't build an airport in old IMO when one already exist in PH. |

asha80: build the port first then you can do others...so if the shoe makers want to export they should go to Lagos abi and conjest the port there instead of going to a place that is nearer to them...if what you wrote is your thinking then we can as well close down all Lagos ports and focus on 'creating jobs instead of exporting them'. Don't mind the guy He said it so as to discourage a project that can dwarf Lagos |
Politics › Re: The Final Report On Ibom ( Nee Ibaka )sea Port In Akwa Ibom by BlackTechnology: 8:53am On Jan 31, 2015 |
omonnakoda: Importation is not the way to develop our economy or create jobs. Yes a port at that location would make sense if it is to be used for exports. To import first we musst earn the dollars and that is an oil dependency model.
Already the SE has many expert skilled shoemakers. What is government doint to enhance thei capabilities? Potentially with the rubber and leather resources in the country they can make enough shoes for our security services and even the whole country. What about furniture making or building materials ,who is making these things in Nigeria. What happened to the paper mill in that region or to TINAPA?
Jobs. That really is what we need. Not a new seaport to use for exporting jobs and our future to other manufacturing nations. Let us industrialize and move away from that IMPORTATION mentality What is this one saying Is as if you know that if the seaport is built, Lagos will lose her almighty advantage as the most active economic lifeline |

owobokiri: Sadly/ironically, ibaka/ibom sea port might end up an idea basically because of the reason you gave in your last paragragh. . While a lot of people will shout "go back to your erosion ravaged villages" here, they are also aware that the high concentration of human and by extension, business activities in lagos, stimulated in no small measure by the ports in Lagos , helps bring in billions of Naira both as tax reveneu for the local and state governments and for local landlords who charge record rents for accomodations in Lagos (it is only in Lagos, that you will find the price of an empty swamp surrounded by a smelly lagoon bigger than that of a beachfront estate in Dubai!). Hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect jobs have been created as a result too. . Many mega projects of this nature have eluded the former eastern Nigeria as a result of high level dirty backroom politics in the past. . If the Akwa ibom state government doesn't take the bull by the horn and start this project, it may never be realised. . The next governor should make this project his signature project.. Left to me, ibaka is far more important than the new stadium Correct If you are a lady, I would have given you good sex Akwa Ibom government lacks wisdom That port is far more important than any other project That port if built can transform Akwa Ibom into the Dubai of Africa I am disappointed in the governor |

To me I feel disappointed that Akwa Ibom with all her oil revenue is still fooling around such wonderful project that can transform the state to an economic hub The late Mbaka of old Imo and Abia won't slack in issues like this I stand to be corrected, the governor is not serious about it otherwise by now that project would have being completed. docsholz: If it will decongest Lagos, welcome development asha80: all these are rhetorics..the conjestion in apapa port needs to be reduced..traffic should be diverted to other places so they can also bear the burden of the country...i repeat if this your economic model is to be implemented which can be similar to what china once did then all ports in the country should be shut down Donmarrius: [s][/s]One saddist spotted.next, their clawed face co-saddists will join. Flets: Lovely news Tonylyte: Am enjoying the all round development of the country. It was not like this(in the ss/se) before....it was onesided initially. obongproff: At last! Wow! So happy to hear dis. Can't wait for this port to commence. So dis was not a scam project after all? Kudos to Akpabio! |

omonnakoda: Yes oil gives us rain and sunshine but can you provide facts and figures rather than breezy generalizations. Nigeria has its own currency and does NOT spend oil money we have already established that oil money accounts for less than 8% of the total goods and services in circulation yet we must believe that oil money is the be all and end all. Well all the evidence contradicts that. We fought a civil war when we were not a major oil producer for 30 months and did not borrow a penny. We have lived without oil money before that is not a theory but fact. Oil money is important. It is as important as an arm is to a grown man but if you amputate it he still has another arm and two legs and a brain. It is imporant but no more important than that . We are prepared to do what we have to do. Those who want war will be taught a very bitter lesson. It will take vey little to evacuate your so called land and repopulate it with Abokis from Chibok and Monguno they are fishermen too I hear. Do not tempt us That's the problem with most of you SW Awo never borrowed one penny because he agreed to exchange weapons for oil contracts with Britain and Russia which Ojukwu foolishly refused |

Collynzo9: ^^^^ As long as oil still accounts for over 90% of Nigeria's revenue, all those epistles up there are pretty meaningless. GDP doesn't build roads or bridges. A state governor does not pay his civil servants their salaries by merely looking at those GDP figures, oil money pays those salaries, oil money builds both state and Federal roads. Talking about GDP figures, Agriculture takes a good chunk of the GDP, what provides subsidized/free fertilizers for farmers? Oil money. What provides irrigation for farmers? Oil money. What builds the roads and railways through which those farm products are distributed? Oil money. Let's be realistic, how many small scale businesses can survive without oil money in Nigeria today? How will civil servants be able to patronize those businesses if their salary (which comes from oil money) isn't paid? How many businesses in Port Harcourt will survive without the oil money in the city? Moving to the telecoms sector, how many civil servants will buy phones or sim cards or regular recharge cards if their oil money salaries aren't paid? How many small business owners will do the same if business isn't moving because of lack of oil money in town? When you look at it realistically, every other sector revolves around oil no matter how unrelated you might think they are. So the truth is that oil is still extremely important in Nigeria, it definitely isn't an ideal situation to be in.....but it is the truth. Unknown to Tinubu, Lagos economy is indirectly connected to oil through salaries, contracts, importations etc |

Adminisher: Niger Delta oil has been useless so far. It has not developed Nigeria, it has not developed the people of the region and it might bring great destruction to its people if they blackmail Nigeria with it. Look at the map carefully before boasting. This is great destruction these militants are calling for upon their land, apart from the fact that there is no unity. The Itsekiri will never join the Ijaw and the Kalahari will war with Nembe, even Bakassi region has its share of internal squabbles. My advice to ND people, take out the militants before they destroy their region for you and wipe out the middle class. Sorry they will not take out those willing to secure their oil heritage Guy Is your cocoa ready. |
