All opinions are valid. Democracy is not Aristocracy. The entire process that produce leaders in Nigeria is not focused on giving us candidate who can deliver quality leadership.

Unless you can convince me that all the candidates that we have had to vote for in every election were the best brains Nigeria had at each season, then your point will make complete sense to me.

We are still at a stage where people consider leadership position as birth right, almost just as you would say the first child in a family should pick his piece of cake before the others.

We don't go to the polls to vote the best, we go to vote mostly between the devil and the deep blue sea. It's up to you to believe whatever works for you. There are credible evidence from experience and history that suggest Nigerians are smart people. Sometimes these things are given by nature, whether they are utilised for any tangible purpose is a completely different subject.

If you continue to believe that leadership in Nigeria, as is the case today, truly representative of the abilities of the people, then I am afraid you might miss the mark.

first of all for the past 15 or 16 years or so of our democracy we have been voting the same political party candidates not minding the fact that most are either dumb some with criminal records some were even political thugs and some where formal head of states , are you telling me that since we started voting we haven’t had any candidate that’s a renowned technocrats just the previous two elections we had moghali, ezekwesili and many other technocrats what happened the same dumb people voted in Buhari , elections in Nigeria has been based on religion and ethnicity which country that has smart people does that except country that has majority of its citizens are dumb people ... going to school doesn’t make one smart cos nigeria has a lot of educated illiterates that’s why you will see a pastor deceiving a professor and raking in millions my brother till we start voting based on individuals other than political party or religion or ethnicity we will forever remain a dumb nation

You say voting does not take place. That is wrong on all fronts. I would say It does just that it doesn't count most of the times. And in this reality lies the repeated stupidity of most Nigerians. Are u aware that For the past 18-20years. PDP- and APC as electoral parties have always and always received the highest number of votes as far as presidential elections are concerned. first of all give a smart and selfish person $10 to build a bridge and give a dumb and selfish person the same amount a smart guy will find ways to build a standard Brigde and maximize profit whereas a dumb and selfish person wouldn’t care he will even find a way to lie and increase the amount of the project even award the project to himself or bring in foreign companies and ask them to build a bridge worth $0.5 in detriments of his country whereas a smart selfish person will build the same bridge with standard goods and find a way to cut costs....just like an average Nigerian politician building a 5km road with billions of naira and still not finish the bridge but an average Chinese man building the same road with less than 500million naira go to China you will see there roads they built with less amount than what we spend here for substandard pavement lol

First, consider that democracy is about numbers - whoever polled highest at the ballot becomes your leader. Take note that in Nigeria factors such as zoning and tribal sentiments influence choice of candidate.

If you add poverty, thuggery and election rigging, you would just understand how it is a situation that would defy both science and any statistics you can think of.

Ask yourself the question, when have you seen an independent candidate garnering public votes in Nigeria. You either have to come from a family that has had something to do with power both at present or in the past and can only pursue ambition under the auspices of major political party.

I struggle with this irony too, luckily, I don't depend on statistics like you to try to have a good grasp of it.

Well let me educate you a bit.

Smartness is the ability to use the knowledge you have to get what you want. It's more short term than anything.

Wisdom is using your knowledge including past choices to make the best decision route for you. It's more long term.

Intelligence is more of your ability to process and apply information in any context. It's a constant. It's more like your brain's processing power. You can overclock that power with smartness, wisdom, brilliance and wittiness but it still has a specific amount of physical cores and base clock speed.
Think of smartness as turbo mode.


So the idea that we replace smartness with intelligence is a commonality with all humans.

Intelligence is your ability to learn. It's a constant that can be measured based on context.

Smartness is the ability to use your intelligence to make quick witty decisions. It's not a constant as you can train this ability just the way you can train your muscle memory.

Thing is you can be averagely intelligent and be incredibly smart, just as you can be outstandingly intelligent and be averagely smart.



If you're still confused about the usage of these words, then I'm sorry.

there is absolutely nothing to be confused about.. intelligence is acquiring knowledge while smartness is the ability to apply those knowledge you acquired in a given situation so if truly our leaders are smart why are we in this situation that we are in this country? First they are dumb secondly they are still yet to come to terms they are dumb...a typical example is the king of Dubai emirate he is smart he saw that oil is fading away and they are fast loosing there reserves he applied a practical knowledge that he acquired by industrializing dubai and turning it to a tourist attraction,removing tax making it an easy spot for start up businesses that a practical exam of smartness I can go on and on same with Chinese President Xi

Nigerians are smart as hell. Now the problem is having intelligence for the long run, something we call wisdom. We lack that.
We say stuff like we do this for our future generations but really we just do things to make life easy for now. We botch things as we go along, neglecting that future individuals would inherit these problems.
We only see the short term goal and ignore the long term because it's too stressful and we want to enjoy it all now.

Mind you this is not the mentality of all Nigerians, just the mentality of 90%

You know I'm actually beyond surprised that we as a country have precedent to borrow money but our legislative branch can't create or pass a "Capital Project" bill? A bill that would enforce every administration to work on a major capital project and reach a particular milestone. Capital Projects like Public Infrastructure, Road networks, amongst others...
