Phones › Nigerians Used 13.2 Million Terabytes Of Data In 2025 - NCC by BlackViper(op): 2:15pm On Jan 06 |
Nigeria’s data traffic in 2025 skyrocketed by 35 per cent to a projected full-year total exceeding 13.2 million terabytes (TB), driven by surging internet usage across mobile and broadband networks, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
Data made available to LEADERSHIP show this momentum building steadily since the NCC began tracking monthly usage in January 2023.
National internet traffic from major providers like MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Globacom, T2 and others climbed from 7.27 million TB in 2023 to 9.76 million TB in 2024, a 34.3 per cent year-on-year increase.
Between January and November 2025 alone, consumption hit 11.86 million TB, up 34.96 per cent, or 3.07 million TB, from the prior year, putting daily usage at over 41,000 TB and straining networks nationwide.
According to data on the NCC’s website, national internet traffic across MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Globacom, T2 and other internet service providers has risen consistently since the Commission began tracking monthly usage in January 2023.
“In 2023, Nigeria recorded 7.27 million TB in total data usage. This climbed to 9.76 million TB in 2024, representing a 34.3 per cent year-on-year growth.
The momentum has intensified in 2025, with full-year consumption now projected to exceed 13.2 million TB, implying growth of about 35 per cent over 2024.
“Between January and November 2025 alone, Nigerians consumed 11.86 million TB, up from 8.79 million TB in the same period last year—an increase of 34.96 per cent, or 3.07 million TB in additional volume,” the report read.
At this pace, the country is now consuming just over 41,000 TB of data daily, placing sustained pressure on mobile and broadband networks nationwide.
A closer look at traffic patterns also reveals pronounced seasonality. December has consistently emerged as the peak month for data use.
In 2024, December traffic exceeded November by 94,502 TB, while in 2023 the jump was 67,794 TB. Month-on-month growth for December averaged 10–11 per cent in both years, driven largely by holiday travel, video streaming, social media activity and online shopping.
According to industry players, the growth is being fuelled by cheaper smartphones, wider mobile internet access, rising video content, expanding cloud services, remote-work tools and the steady digitalisation of businesses and public services.
Notably, broadband penetration crossed the 50 per cent threshold in November 2025 for the first time, a historic milestone, though still short of the 70 per cent target set under the National Broadband Plan (NBP), 2020–2025.
Speaking on the report, a telecom analyst, Osita Odafi, said Nigeria’s soaring appetite for internet services has pushed national data consumption to 11.86 million terabytes (TB) as of November 30, 2025, placing the country firmly on course to exceed 13 million TB by year-end.
Odafi noted that the surge reflects how streaming platforms, cloud computing, fintech services and widespread smartphone adoption are rapidly redefining how Nigerians live and work.
Analysts increasingly view data consumption as a reflection of broader economic activity, showing how Nigerians communicate, transact, learn and entertain themselves.
Also speaking, the chief executive officer of Airtel Nigeria, Dinesh Balsingh, said rapid urbanisation was intensifying data demand.
“Cities like Lagos are growing at lightning speed with more people, more businesses, more devices.
“We recognise that data is the new oxygen. That is why we are investing heavily in 5G and fibre to build a smart, scalable network that can carry the weight of Nigeria’s digital future,” Balsingh said.
However, regulators have warned that infrastructure strain remains evident.
Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Aminu Maida, said the quality of service still requires improvement despite recent gains.
“Quality of service today is not yet where we want it to be, but it is equally true that we are no longer where we used to be,” Maida said, adding that operators are being compelled to accelerate investment while improving customer experience.
For telecom operators and internet service providers, the figures signal both opportunity and urgency. Sustaining the current growth trajectory will demand aggressive expansion of network capacity, greater resilience and smarter infrastructure design.
From a policy standpoint, analysts insist that progress will depend on faster execution of the 90,000-kilometre national fibre rollout under Project BRIDGE, resolving right-of-way bottlenecks, tackling multiple taxation at sub-national levels and addressing security challenges that inflate operating costs and expose infrastructure to vandalism.
If these constraints are removed, Odafi believes Nigeria’s current data boom may represent not a peak, but merely the opening phase of a much larger digital transformation. https://leadership.ng/data-consumption-soars-35-to-13-2m-terabytes-on-rising-internet-usage-ncc/

Crime › Nigerian Man Explains What The Police Did To Him For Being A Good Samaritan by BlackViper(op): 12:03pm On Jan 06 |
Sometime this year, I made the grievous mistake of rushing a dying young man who had collapsed on the road to the hospital at the instance of a doctor who I had earlier called for advice, even when everybody chose to walk pass.
Unfortunately, upon reaching the hospital, the young man gave up the ghost. Out of protocol, I requested that the police be informed since I never knew the person involved, i was just trying to be a good citizen.
I was taken to incident the case at GRA Police station in Asaba. To tell you how wicked some officers of the Nigerian Police Force could be, I was instead accused of murder with my statement taken under caution. CSP Christopher Odoh, the DPO, told me he must deal with me for acting like ‘Jesus’. Those were his exact words.
He bluntly told me that when he is through with me, if I see anybody dying again, I would walk pass, even after the deceased victims family had confirmed that their late son had an underlying condition.
I immediately understood why people make videos in such a situation and do not make an attempt to rescue the victim. It took the grace of God through a very very top government functionary for me to have escaped the murder charge that I was tagged with.
Even after the VVIP personally came to attest and ensure I was released, the Nigerian Police Force, through CSP Christopher Odoh of the Asaba GRA Division still emptied my account as bail money, I went home with only Two thousand Naira.
As the year comes to an end, I am using this opportunity to thank God for bringing me out of tha situation. Many people are still in prison for cases lesser than mine. My people, join me to thank God. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17rQ8FwyaN/

Family › Canadian Based Nigerian Woman Hails Her Husband For Sharing Bank PIN With Her by BlackViper(op): 9:26am On Jan 06 |
Shared by Deborah Ocheido Another thing that made me know I married well happened immediately I landed in Canada
So a few days after I landed, my husband took me to the bank so I could open my own bank account.
When we got there, per usual I was asked to put in the four digit pin I wanted to use for my debit card. My husband was standing beside me and as I was putting it in, he looked away.
I looked at him sharply wandering what that was about. I found it weird.
When we we got home, I asked him why he did that. “Why don’t you want to know my pin”? But I know your own” I asked him.
He said “you’re your own person. You know my pin because I told you” if you want me to know your own, tell me”
I told him but honestly I did not understand fully what he was trying to do till a few months into marriage.
That’s when I understood that my husband did not want me to become consumed. Even God gives mankind free will. And this is what my husband was modeling.
Because many times , Marriage consumes women. And sometimes, some Christian men wield this as a weapon mercilessly. And I know this because I used to be in a relationship where it was all about him.
His vision. His plans. His calling. What God wanted to do with him. And it was now like “What about me? God does not want to use me for anything?”
You become consumed in the man that you lose your sense of self. Your dreams, your thoughts, your ideas out the window.
You hear people saying that your husband’s purpose becomes your purpose when you marry him.
So you won’t stand before the throne of God on your own to give account of the life He gave you? And mind you your husband will not be there to help you explain.
He wanted me to be his wife but still feel like my own person. First he led by example by letting me know all his pins and then allowing me share mine. Which I gladly did
My husband did not insist I change my name on socials because that’s the name people have known. And he said “let’s not confuse anybody. You’re my Wife and you carry my name where it matters most”
It was in all these subtle ways that he helped me be me and that’s why God has helped me to still have a voice and be useful to my generation.
And for that, I bless God for him everyday.
The Bible says that “two shall become one”
But the Bible also says that “each one stood before God to give account”
Not two standing before God o. Each person will stand before God by themselves. And that tells you that even in the two, God still sees each one.
Selah.
PS: I am not attacking men. Resist the urge to drop that contrary comment that is in your mind. I am not attacking men. I am sharing my experience which I think can help the young girls who look up to me.
Blessings. Source

Romance › Re: Why Do Religious People Always Look Stupid And Slow? by BlackViper: 4:01pm On Jan 05 |
I believe you have failed to distinguish between religion and superstition. True religion is really a form of high ethical standards where morality is adhered to no matter what the consequences are. A good example of true religion is the type exhibited by Corrie Ten Boom and her sister Betsie Ten Boom. You should read about their story. Superstition on the other hand is simply mindlessly following a set of empty, meaningless rituals and believing you're a better person for doing so. For religion to be authentic, you must be willing to be faithful to it even if it costs you everything, including your life. Jerkbaba: And they'll be calling themselves men of God. Why do they always reck of low ig and look stupid. They really get on my nerves. Ignorance just shows all over their faces. Very irritating if you ask me. |
Sports › A Fan Pays Mike Tyson $3,300 To Follow Him On IG by BlackViper(op): 3:49pm On Jan 05 |
A die-hard fan recently spent more than $3,000 for something unusual: a social media follow from Mike Tyson.
According to Darren Rovell, founder of Cllct Media, Goldin Auctions included the one-of-a-kind prize in its final auction of 2025.
At the height of his career, Tyson earned millions per fight, but financial troubles later pushed him into bankruptcy. Through exhibition bouts and smarter business moves, he rebuilt his fortune and now earns income from multiple ventures, including autographs, memorabilia, and collectibles. Still, being paid for an Instagram follow is a new chapter.
Six bids were placed, with one fan ultimately paying $3,304 to secure Tyson’s follow on Instagram. The auction also featured an original fight contract from Tyson’s September 1996 bout against Bruce Seldon at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas—a first-round knockout win. The document carried signatures from Tyson, Don King, Rory Holloway, and John Horne, and the fight is historically notable for taking place the same night Tupac Shakur was fatally shot after leaving the venue.
The winner has not been publicly identified, but they would become the 300th account Tyson follows, joining names like Joe Rogan, Dana White, and Tyson Fury. Whether an Instagram follow is worth over $3,000 is up for debate, and it’s unclear how much of the proceeds Tyson personally receives.
The 59-year-old boxing legend is also preparing for an exhibition bout with Floyd Mayweather, potentially set for Africa in March 2026. Beyond that, Tyson has expressed interest in a rematch with Jake Paul, who recently suffered his first knockout loss when Anthony Joshua broke his jaw.
Reflecting on his previous loss to Paul in 2024, Tyson admitted he trained too hard and peaked too early. Now, he believes experience has made him better prepared for another run. https://www.financian.com/fan-pays-dollar3304-for-mike-tyson-instagram-follow

Foreign Affairs › Nicholas Maduro To Stand Trial In US For Being Leader Of Drug Cartel by BlackViper(op): 1:00pm On Jan 03 |
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro will stand trial on criminal charges in the US.
The leader and his wife were captured in a daring operation by US special forces and flown out of Caracas.
Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State said that Maduro would now stand criminal trial, likely on drug trafficking charges.
“He [Mr Rubio] informed me that Nicolás Maduro has been arrested by U.S. personnel to stand trial on criminal charges in the United States, and that the kinetic action we saw tonight was deployed to protect and defend those executing the arrest warrant,” Mike Lee, a Republican US Senator, said in a social media post.
Mr Rubio “anticipates no further action in Venezuela now that Maduro is in US custody,” Mr Lee added.
Donald Trump earlier on Saturday hailed a “brilliant operation” to capture Maduro
The US president launched air strikes on Caracas earlier this morning using black hawk helicopters and chinooks, before breaking the extraordinary news that Mr Maduro and his wife had been taken into custody and flown out of the country.
In a post on Truth Social, Mr Trump said: “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country.”
He added that a press conference would be held at 11am at Mar-a-Lago. That’s 4pm in the UK.
“A lot of good planning and a lot of great, great troops and great people,” Mr Trump said.
Footage showed smoke rising above the skyline as the Venezuelan government declared a state of emergency, saying strikes had occurred in Caracas and in the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira.
The bombing raid came after months of threats and warnings from Mr Trump that he would take action if Venezuela did not stop drug-smuggling boats from heading towards America.
Marco Rubio, the US secretary of state, has shared an old post in which he condemned Nicolás Maduro and his government.
“Maduro is NOT the President of Venezuela and his regime is NOT the legitimate government,” Mr Rubio said in the old post.
“Maduro is the head of the Cartel de Los Soles, a narco-terror organisation which has taken possession of a country. And he is under indictment for pushing drugs into the United States.”
The old statement, which Mr Rubio shared in the form of a screenshot on X, was one of his first social media posts since Donald Trump announced Mr Maduro’s capture.
Earlier on Saturday, Mike Lee, a Republican US Senator said he had been told by Mr Rubio that Mr Maduro would stand trial on criminal charges in the US, likely for drug trafficking.
Trinidad and Tobago’s foreign ministry has shared a statement distancing itself from military operations in Venezuela after providing support to the US military to combat drug trafficking in the Caribbean.
“Trinidad and Tobago is NOT a participant in any of these ongoing military operations. Trinidad and Tobago continues to maintain peaceful relations with the people of Venezuela,” Kamla Persad-Bissessar, the prime minister, wrote on social media.
The twin-island nation has in recent weeks allowed a US warship to dock on its shore, carried out drills with American troops and given US military aircraft permission to transit its airports.
It was revealed last month that the country, which is just seven miles away from Venezuela at its closest point, had approved the installation of a US military radar facility.
Giorgia Meloni, the Italian prime minister, said on Saturday that she was “closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela” with an aim to “gathering information about our fellow citizens” in the country.
Venezuela hosts around 160,000 Italian citizens, most of whom have dual citizenship.
The Italian leader added that she is in constant contact with Antonio Tajani, the Italian foreign minister.
Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, said she has spoken to Marco Rubio about US strikes on Venezuela.
“The EU has repeatedly stated that Mr Maduro lacks legitimacy and has defended a peaceful transition,” she wrote on X.
“Under all circumstances, the principles of international law and the UN Charter must be respected. We call for restraint.”
“The safety of EU citizens in our country is our top priority,” she finished.
I have spoken with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and our Ambassador in Caracas. The EU is closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela.

Venezuela has called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council in response to US strikes on the country, according to Yván Gil Pinto, the country’s foreign minister.
“No cowardly attack will prevail against the strength of this people, who will emerge victorious,” he captioned an image of the letter sent to the UN on Telegram.
Spain has offered to mediate between the United States and Venezuela after US attacks on Caracas and the capture of President Nicolas Maduro, who was flown out of the country.
“Spain calls for de-escalation and restraint,” Madrid’s foreign ministry said in a statement, adding that “in this regard ... it is prepared to offer its good offices to achieve a peaceful, negotiated solution to the current crisis”.
Russia has condemned US strikes in Venezuela, saying that “ideological hostility” has prevailed over diplomacy.
“This morning, the United States committed an act of armed aggression against Venezuela. This is deeply concerning and condemnable,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday morning.
“Ideological hostility has triumphed over businesslike pragmatism,” it added.
Sources within the Venezuelan opposition said that Nicolás Maduro’s capture may have been part of a “negotiated exit” between the US and Venezuela, according to Sky News.
On Thursday, Mr Maduro had said that he was open to dialogue with the US “wherever they want and whenever they want”, but there was no public response to the appeal.
Neither the US nor the Venezuelan government have commented on whether there were negotiations between the two sides prior to this morning’s strikes. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/01/03/explosions-venezuela-capital-caracas/?WT.mc_id=tmgoff_youtube

Politics › King Of Hausas In Makurdi: "We Have Been Here Before Benue State Was Created" by BlackViper(op): 9:08am On Jan 03 |
For residents of Wadata, Makurdi’s oldest settlement in Benue State, each day begins with a familiar routine occasioned by struggle for survival.
Our correspondent who visited the suburb on a Saturday morning observed women either bathing their children or sweeping the compound while men listened to news on radio or got ready for commercial activities.
Call to Subhi prayers echoed through the streets, indicating a community dominated by Muslims, where faith, labour and long held tradition of togetherness shape the rhythm of everyday life.
Expectedly, Hausa remains the commonly spoken language in the area, where residents are majorly Nigerians of northern extraction.
As our correspondent settled to conversation with one Mohammed Salisu, who was busy scrapping the beard of a supposedly early customer, the calmness of the morning soon gave way to noise: traders shouting prices, carts rattling, footsteps colliding at narrow corners, depicting Wadata as a settlement that does not ease into the day but leaps into it. No wonder many describe it as Makurdi’s oldest heartbeat.
Salisu, barely able to communicate in Pidgin English, muttered that he was a local barber and manicurist, while his customer, who identify himself as Shiro, claimed to have lived in Wadata for over 13 years and engaging in shoe polishing and other petty trading.
“I like Wadata because people care for each other here,” he said.
According to Shiro, he heard that Wadata had a traceable history linked to the colonial period but does not know how the Hausa became predominant dwellers of the area.
The Sarkin Hausawan of Makurdi, Alhaji Imam Sani Yusuf, disclosed that the Wadata community, according to history, has long been part of Makurdi’s mainland before Benue State was created in 1976 after Hausa settlers had pitched their tents along River Benue.
Our correspondent reports that some accounts trace the presence of Hausa settlers in the valley to periods predating colonial rule, although Makurdi itself is said to have emerged in the early 1920s and rose to prominence in 1927 as the headquarters of the then Benue Province.
Today’s Benue capital city, then as a river port, drew trading giants like the United Africa Company (UAC) and John Holt, such that when the railway bridge was completed in 1932, Wadata’s importance deepened, cementing its place as a gateway between the North, Middle Belt and beyond.
For years, the community was administered by a Hausa leader as history recorded that governance shifted in 1945 after the death of the first Chief of Makurdi, Mallam Audu Afoda when agitation grew for a Tiv chief to reflect the town’s changing demographics.Yet the transition did not rupture relations as Tiv, Hausa, Idoma, Igala, Bassa-Nges and other groups continued to live side by side, bound more by safe space than ethnic lines.
That spirit of coexistence later echoed in politics, including the emergence of Alhaji Al-hassan Maikeke as Makurdi Local Government chairman in 1998 – an outcome many attribute to inter-ethnic trust.
Even the name, Makurdi carries contested meanings because some link it to the Hausa word, Kurdi – a rush of water spilling into a lagoon, while others, like Thomas Mandara, lean toward Mai-kudi – “one who has money” – a nod, perhaps to the town’s early commercial promise.
Other residents explained that Wadata itself speaks of self sufficiency despite being largely a slum, where more uneducated people lived and proper drainage systems lacked.
Ryan Yusuf, a youth leader in the area, described Wadata as an old settlement of Makurdi, where architectural designs speak for itself.
“In fact, it was where Makurdi began. Wadata means contentment in Hausa. It is highly populated by low income earners with many dependants. Almost all the compounds in Wadata has a minimum of 20 occupants,” he said.
The Sarkin Hausawan Makurdi told our correspondent that Makurdi itself was founded in the 18th century, clarifying that Wadata, then known as Gangeri, was only a segment during the reign of Chief Audu.
“It is the heart control room of Makurdi. Today, all the dominated areas of Hausa people in this part of Makurdi are classified as Wadata. The first main Makurdi market situated in Gangeri (Wadata) is still in existence. The first Customary Court, first police station, first GRA, first clinic, now Wadata Primary Health Centre, white men quarters, were all located in what is today known as Wadata.
“The first berth where ships offloaded goods for lorries to transport to other parts of the country was in what is now Wadata. These areas included John Holt, where the marine post was located, the first water board, as well as the railway, all of which served their purposes at the time. Gangeri, as it was then called, was the heartbeat of Makurdi.
“At that time, Madikpo (second-hand market) operated from 6pm until dawn after the daily closure of the main market by the waterfront,” he said.
Surrounded by his lieutenants at his palace on Ihugh Street, Wadata, the Sarikin Hausawa recounted how the reign of Makurdi’s first chief, Audu, contributed immensely to commerce in Benue State, noting that his leadership extended across many settlements that are now renowned townships.
He said the creation of the state disrupted what had been the old order, beginning with the first demarcation of Makurdi in 1976 when the military governor, Abdullahi Shelleng, came to power. Further developments under successive governments alienated areas such as High Level, Wurukum, North Bank and Walimayo, among others.
Audu’s descendants speak about Wadata
Alhaji Dantala Rufai, the oldest great-grandson of Audu, Makurdi’s first chief, applauded the legacy of his ancestors for their contributions to the development of Benue’s foremost city.
He said, “Wadata is part of Makurdi. During the lifetime of my grandfather, who was the first chief of Makurdi, the area was under the Tiv Native Authority.”
His younger brother, Musa Rufai, also a great-grandson of Audu, said life in Wadata now was quite different from what it used to be. He noted that the community was once peaceful and brotherly, but unfortunately, hostility now persists, adding that their forefathers were among the first settlers in what is today known as Wadata.
“We feel abandoned now. For instance, I had an accident four years ago and no one has extended support to me, not even in the name of my great-grandfather’s legacy to cater for my affected legs. He (Audu) has not been given any form of recognition. My forefathers contributed greatly to the socioeconomic development of Makurdi,” he said.
Aminu Aminu, a great-great-grandson of Audu, wants recognition for the contributions of his forebears to commerce in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
How early Hausa settlers arrived
Alhaji Yusuf, the present Sarikin Hausawan, explained that the first Hausa settlers arrived from different parts of northern Nigeria by road, water and rail, adding that they were traders in search of business opportunities.
His narration was applauded by his lieutenants – Chief of scholars in the community, Sheikh Sariki, assistant secretary of the palace, Mai-agwan Sariki and the palace Kakaaki, among others present during the interview.
“Some of these traders were involved in water transportation from Lokoja to Ibi in the present day Taraba State to sell their goods when the construction of a new bridge began in 1921. They saw an opportunity and started migrating in search of greener pastures through trade. Others trekked while trading along the routes, stopping at Ankpa in the present day Kogi State and moving on to Makurdi, where they eventually settled with their goods,” he further explained.
There were also residents who said some settlers came from Kano during the construction of the railway bridge as labourers at the time when Wadata was the only viable settlement, while others, including High Level, were thick bush.
The labourers, according to them, stayed, their families later followed and Wadata became both home and headquarters of the Hausa community in Benue.
Today, according to the Sarikin Hausawan, culture and religion have bound all the residents of Wadata together irrespective of their ethnic background – Bassa-Nge, Agatu, Kakanda or Nupe.
“All of us are Moslems. The religion makes our culture one; it harmonises us. As we practise the religion, we practise one culture,” he explained.
The good, the bad of Wadata
For Hajiya Hawa Isah, an activist, life in Wadata community is beautiful. She said the area, mostly dominated by Muslims of different northern extraction, offered women opportunities to become self-reliant.
“Islam looks at a woman as a gift that should be treated with dignity. Life is changing now and transformation happening for women in Wadata. Women are now doing things to compliment their husbands’ incomes, unlike before that they relied solely on them.
“Now, women are forming education group, which is helping to bring health and income. Our women are now enlightened towards doing business. Life is getting better for Wadata women. I am happy that women are progressing.
Alhaji Shehu Mohammed Rayyan, a major Point of Sale (POS) operator in Wadata, said the growing trend of cultism in the community was a cause for concern and called for concerted efforts to curb the menace.
Rayyan, whose father is from Agatu in Benue and mother a Fulani, said his business in Wadata had flourished since its establishment in 2019 following the completion of his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
He acknowledged that Wadata has many appealing aspects in terms of business and festivities. He, however, expressed worry over persistent cult-related activities in the area, stressing the need to close existing educational gaps.
Rayyan moved to Wadata in 2016 after graduating from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in 2015. During his service year in Benue State, he assisted his uncle before raising capital from his earnings and support from his sister to start his POS business.
“Wadata always exudes pomp and pageantry during festivities, but the level of cultism there is something I have never seen elsewhere in my life. I have lived in Plateau, Zaria and Abuja but it cannot be compared. It is just too much.
“I am, however, happy for this generation, which is now going to school, although the gap remains wide when viewed historically. Indigenous Wadata people are lovely and many locals tend to take things easy. The dropout rate used to be high, but the situation is changing.
“Wadata is generally safe, apart from cult-related issues. Petty theft is common, but outsiders rarely come to steal; it is usually people from within the community. Overall, life in Wadata is exciting,” he said.
Corroborating the menace of cultism in Wadata, the Sarikin Hausawan lamented the ugly trend, saying the community, traditional and religious leaders are cooperating with security agencies in the state to fight the monster.
He opined that with more than 100 titleholders of the Hausa community, the war against cultism would surely be won.
“Cultism has become a worrisome development in this our Hausa community, I can’t deny it. But it won’t continue. We will solve the problems within our children. We are praying for the Almighty’s intervention. There’s an ongoing counselling between us and our children,” he said.
The Sarikin Hausawan said many cases were already being handled by the palace commander, who responds promptly to any threat, adding that with the involvement of the ‘A’ Police Division, the activities of the hoodlums are gradually reducing.
He, however, said that despite the ugly trend, Wadata community remained a place where the strength of cultural diversity can be experienced.
“Wadata people are hospitable; we don’t discriminate. Whether you are a Christian or Muslim, you are loved in this community. Although Wadata people are majorly traders, we have lots of graduates in any field of study,” Alhaji Yusuf maintained. |

Politics › FG Halts Plans To Cede 10,000 Hectares Of Land To Cameroon by BlackViper(op): 3:57pm On Dec 31, 2025 |
The Federal Government has halted plans to cede more than 10,000 hectares of Nigerian land to neighbouring Cameroon following concerns over improper boundary demarcation.
The lawmaker representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, Mr Victor Abang, disclosed this during a constituency briefing on Wednesday at Keyang II in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Abang said the proposed cession was linked to the 2002 International Court of Justice ruling, which stipulated that the Nigeria–Cameroon boundary be defined in line with the 1913 Anglo-German Treaty.
He explained that a joint implementation committee attempted to demarcate the boundary without due regard to established colonial boundary features, including Pillar 113A, a recognised demarcation point between both countries.
According to him, failure to observe the historic boundary would have resulted in the loss of more than 10,000 hectares of Nigerian territory, including parts of Biajua and Danare communities in Boki.
Abang said he presented a motion on the matter on July 5, 2023, which was deliberated upon by the House of Representatives, leading to the suspension of the exercise pending a comprehensive review.
The lawmaker also presented a two-year scorecard titled “The Banjuere”, highlighting projects such as a mini stadium, telecommunications masts linking 35 communities, and N300 million worth of medical equipment.
He further disclosed that he sponsored the National Park Service Amendment Bill, aimed at environmental conservation and the establishment of the Okwangwo National Park Unit as an independent entity.
Abang said the bill was expected to enhance the economic, ecological and developmental value of the Boki forest and its surrounding communities. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/12/fg-halts-plans-to-cede-10000-hectares-of-land-to-cameroon/

Banks to start charging senders N50 stamp duty on transfers above N10k from January
Banks will start charging senders a N50 stamp duty on electronic transfers of N10,000 and above from January 1, 2026, following the implementation of the Tax Act.
The stamp duty or electronic money transfer levy (EMTL) is a single, one-off charge of N50 on electronic receipt or transfer of money deposited in any commercial money bank or financial institution on any type of account on sums of N10,000 and above.
In an email sent to customers on Tuesday, United Bank for Africa (UBA) said the N50 electronic money transfer levy (EMTL) on transfers will now be referred to as stamp duty across all financial institutions.
“Please note the following: Stamp Duty applies to transactions of ₦10,000 and above (or the equivalent in other currencies),” the email reads.
“Salary payments and Intra-bank self-transfers are exempt from stamp duty.
“The Sender now bears the Stamp Duty charge. Previously, this charge was deducted from the Beneficiary/ Receiver.”
The bank said it remains committed to transparency and to keeping customers informed about changes that may affect their banking transactions.
On September 7, 2024, Nigerian financial technology firms (fintechs) announced plans to introduce a N50 stamp duty fee on transactions of N10,000 and above.
According to the fintechs, the move complies with Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) regulations, noting that the fee will be applied to electronic transfers into personal and business accounts. https://www.thecable.ng/banks-to-start-charging-senders-n50-stamp-duty-on-transfers-above-n10k-from-january/

Foreign Affairs › Saudi Arabia Bombs UAE Ship Carrying Weapons To Yemeni Rebels by BlackViper(op): 12:02pm On Dec 30, 2025 |
Saudi Arabia has bombed an arms shipment from the United Arab Emirates bound for separatist forces in Yemen.
The attack on Tuesday has deepened the rift between the two Gulf allies that back rival armed groups fighting the Houthis, the Iran-backed rebels, in Yemen’s crippling civil war.
Yemen’s government has since declared a state of emergency and cancelled a security pact with the UAE in response to Abu Dhabi-backed separatists seizing swathes of territory in the south in recent weeks.
It has set a 24-hour deadline for all Emirati forces to leave Yemen.
Saudi Arabia supports the internationally recognised government in Yemen, while the UAE backs the Southern Transitional Council (STC), a separatist force seeking to revive the formerly independent state of South Yemen.
On Tuesday, Riyadh called the UAE’s actions “extremely dangerous” and “a threat to the kingdom” and regional security, bringing the two countries closer to a direct conflict.
A Saudi-led coalition warned on Saturday that it would back Yemen’s government in any military confrontation with separatist forces and urged the STC forces to withdraw “peacefully” from recently seized areas.
The coalition hit two ships in Yemen’s southern port city of Mukalla that were carrying “a large quantity of weapons and combat vehicles to support the Southern Transitional Council forces”, the Saudi state-run news agency SPA reported.
The ships had arrived from the port of Fujairah, on the east coast of the UAE, the SPA said, adding that the operation was conducted overnight to avoid collateral damage.
Saudi Arabia launched air strikes on STC forces on Friday to halt their advance after they captured most of the oil-rich province of Hadhramaut and neighbouring al-Mahra, with little resistance.
Washington has called for restraint in the rapidly escalating conflict, with Marco Rubio, the US secretary of state, on Saturday saying diplomacy was needed to reach a “lasting solution”.
Rashad al-Alimi, the head of Yemen’s presidential council, called the separatists’ advance an “unacceptable rebellion” in a televised address on Tuesday.
Yemen’s government is a patchwork of groups, which includes the separatists, and is held together by shared opposition to the Houthis who seized Yemen’s capital of Sanaa in 2014 and secured control over most of the north.
Both Saudi Arabia and the UAE joined an Arab coalition in 2015 in response to the militant group’s offensive, but Abu Dhabi steadily decreased in participation and the Houthis, with Iran’s support, grew stronger.
In support of Hamas in Gaza, the Houthis for two years carried out attacks against commercial shipping in the Red Sea, disrupting a global trade route. The strikes have eased since the ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave.
Since the Houthi takeover of Yemen, supporters of the STC and its affiliates have been gathering regularly in cities to demand independence for the state of South Yemen, which was unified with the rest of the country in 1990.
On Saturday, a large demonstration took place in the city of Aden, with the crowd waving both the South Yemen independence flag and the UAE’s flag.
A Yemeni military official said on Friday that about 15,000 Saudi-backed fighters were massed near the Saudi border, but had not been given orders to advance on separatist-held territory. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/12/30/saudi-arabia-bombs-uae-weapons-shipments-in-yemen/?WT.mc_id=tmgoff_youtube_uae-weapons-shipments-in-yemen%2F Mynd44 Lalasticlala Nlfpmod 6

Family › Meet The Chinese Billionaire, Xu Bo, Who Has Fathered 100 Children Worldwide by BlackViper(op): 11:19am On Dec 29, 2025 |
Billionaires such as Telegram founder Pavel Durov and Tesla CEO Elon Musk have openly discussed large families meant to carry on their legacies. Now, a Chinese video game billionaire is reportedly pursuing a similar path in the United States, hoping to have around 20 U.S.-born children who could one day inherit his gaming empire.
Xu Bo, founder and chairman of Guangzhou Duoyi Network—one of China’s largest mobile gaming companies—has built a fortune estimated at $1.1 billion. Despite growing his business in China, Xu is reportedly unwilling to pass his wealth to children born there.
A Wall Street Journal investigation found that he has used U.S.-based surrogacy, seeking parental rights to multiple unborn children and already fathering several more through the same process, with the total potentially reaching dozens.
According to reporting, Xu has allegedly claimed to have more than 100 surrogate-born children, expressed a desire for “50 high-quality sons,” and stated that having many children could solve most problems.
In a 2023 court hearing, he reportedly said he hoped around 20 U.S.-born children would eventually take over his business. Some claims—including that he has hundreds of children worldwide—have been denied by his company, which disputes parts of the reporting and says only a small number of the children were born in the U.S.
Xu’s case reflects a broader trend among ultra-wealthy tech founders planning unusually large families to preserve their companies and personal legacies. https://www.financian.com/chinese-billionaire-with-100-children-hopes-us-born-sons-take-over-his-business
