In a viral post challenging Nigeria’s religious divides, Taoheed Abdulwasiu Mustapha, popularly known as TAOSAF, declared that Christians and traditional believers are welcome to ask for his daughter’s hand in marriage — as long as they have “good character” and “decent means of livelihood.”
“I’m a Muslim, but humanity is at the core of my values,” Mustapha wrote. “If you’re from a good family, have good character, and have a decent means of livelihood, you have my respect. I will support you.”
TAOSAF said he refuses “any interpretation of religion that teaches me to hate, despise, or attack people simply because they follow a different faith.” He added: “To me, humanity comes before religious differences.”
Taking aim at religious intolerance, he wrote: “Saudi Arabia eats and dine with Israel and America… What’s your own problem…? Nonsense.”
Unmoved by potential backlash, Mustapha told critics: “If my way of life doesn’t sit well with you, that’s your choice. Go and hug the transformer.” He insisted “no amount of criticism or threat to life will change my belief in treating people with dignity and respect.”
The post has since sparked wide debate online over interfaith marriage and tolerance in Nigeria.

An infant was killed in a shooting in St. Louis, and a 10-year-old was believed to have pulled the trigger, according to St. Louis City Police Spokesperson Mitch McCoy.
Police said the 7-month-old, later identified as Kiyomi Parker, was shot the afternoon of June 25 in the Baden neighborhood.
Officers said they did a “scoop and go” on the baby, grabbing her from the scene and putting her in the backseat of a police car to rush her to a hospital.
The officer in the backseat continued life-saving measures while other officers blocked traffic to try to get the infant to the hospital faster.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The 10-year-old was taken into custody the next day and charged with murder.

Missouri did not have a minimum age to charge a child with a serious felony, including murder, until 2024, when a state law set the minimum age for a minor to be certified as an adult to be 12 years old.

A viral stress-relief “Natasha” doll trending on Chinese social media has been deemed “absolutely diabolical” by members of Hong Kong’s Black community.
Resembling a small child, the most popular version is dark-skinned and features exaggerated racial characteristics. Buyers have filmed themselves beating, stretching, boiling and stomping on the toy.
“No design is created, marketed, and sold in isolation of thought and purpose. The design, manufacturing, and selling of a Black baby doll to abuse at one’s whims is at the root of the existence of movements like Black Lives Matter,” Monique Franz, a writer and founder of Kinsman Avenue Publishing – a non-profit which advocates for underrepresented voices – told HKFP.
“By inviting people to take out their stresses on a Black body, we invite populations to abuse our Black bodies at their whims, robbing us of our actual humanity. While this is a game to others, Black people are experiencing widespread global abuse, which is the result of portrayals of us in such degrading ways,” added Franz, who is African-American.
Made from slow-rising memory foam or soft thermoplastic rubber, the dolls remain freely available on e-commerce sites such as Taobao, and have been trending on social media platforms like RedNote and Douyin.
Jayne Jeje, an African-American entrepreneur, advocate, and long-term Hong Kong resident, told HKFP that such trends do not come out of nowhere. “There seems to be an endless fascination with Black hair, Black skin, Black lips, Black bodies, and Black culture, yet people are shocked when we speak up,” she said.
“Some of the viral videos are absolutely diabolical. I’d find them offensive no matter who was being depicted, but this is deeply personal because I am proud of my beautiful dark skin. I refuse to accept the idea that it is something to be squeezed, slapped, mocked, or turned into entertainment for the masses,” she added.
Londiwe Ngubeni – a South African actress and vocalist who lives on Lantau – told HKFP that she spotted a child with a Natasha doll at a Mui Wo supermarket. “At first, I thought she simply liked the toy. Then she began stretching, squeezing, poking the eyes and hitting the doll. When I asked why, she said it was a ‘stress reliever.’ How is relieving stress by hurting a brown baby doll acceptable?”
Ngubeni said she was furious and disappointed. The child “said her friend had given it to her. What message are we teaching children when dehumanising a Black child becomes a plaything?”
She urged manufacturers and retailers to be held to account over “products that reinforce racist attitudes.”
Innocent Mutanga of NGO Africa Center Hong Kong said the trend “risks normalising the dehumanisation of Black bodies… This is particularly disturbing as this dehumanization is directed towards Black children, demonstrating a lack of empathy for Black people, no matter the age.”
He said the China Consumers Association and State Administration for Market Regulation had stepped in to remove violent videos, with schools in mainland China banning the doll.
Although Mutanga said guidance was issued to e-commerce sites in mainland China, the product was still available on Taobao when HKFP checked on Thursday.
Mutanga urged teachers, parents and community leaders across the Greater Bay Region to link up with the Africa Centre to step up education, as people may lack “exposure to African cultures and histories.”

World Cup 2026: Didier Deschamps to miss France's final group game following death of his mother
France head coach Didier Deschamps will miss his side's final World Cup group game following the death of his mother, the French Football Federation (FFF) has confirmed.
Deschamps, 57, learned of his mother's passing on Tuesday morning and has been given permission by FFF president Philippe Diallo to fly back to France to attend the funeral.
France, who have already qualified for the knockout stages after beating Senegal and Iraq in their opening two games, face Norway on Friday in Boston to determine the winner of Group I.
In a statement, the FFF said assistant coach Guy Stephan will take charge of the squad until Deschamps returns.
As a player, Deschamps won the World Cup in 1998 and the European Championship in 2000 with France.
He became manager of the national side in 2012, and leading them to a World Cup final victory in Russia in 2018 and a defeatby Argentina in the final in 2022.

The teenage girl who was arrested for killing her parents earlier this week spread photos of them covered with blood via WhatsApp before she was picked up, the Telegraaf reported on Friday.
The bodies of Johan and Mathilda, both aged 53, were found in their home in Meerstad, a new town just east of Groningen, in the early hours of Thursday morning. Their daughter, now said to be 15 not 13, was arrested shortly afterwards.
“Her father was on the ground, her mother on the bed,” one girl who claimed to have seen the photos, told the paper. “There was blood and a knife.” Other pupils at the Vaklyceum Montessori school also told the paper they had seen the images or knew someone who had.
The Telegraaf says it has been told by the girl’s classmates that her behaviour had become strange, and that she was struggling with her identity.
Some pupils said she wanted to be addressed as “he” while others said she identified as a dog. Some also said she had not been at school for a long period .
Neighbours described the family as loving and kind but told the AD they had seen the girl running down the street late at night, or sitting silently on top of the roof of the shed. “She was always strange and kept herself to herself,” neighbour Heleen told the paper.
The family home, the Telegraaf said, had recently been sold for almost €500,000 and they were planning to move to another, bigger, property in the area.
As yet it is unclear how the police were alerted to the deaths. Locals have suggested the girl herself made the call but others have said it was a school friend who received the photos via WhatsApp.
The police have not yet issued any further statements about their investigation but told the Telegraaf any photos of relevance to the killing should be sent to them.
Lakurawa Terrorists Set N1,500 Bride Price Cap, Order Marriage For Girls Above 15 In Niger State Community
Armed members of the Lakurawa terrorist group reportedly issued new social and religious directives to residents of Zugurma community in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State on Sunday, including ordering that girls above the age of 15 should be married off and fixing bride price at N1,500.
The development occurred during the group’s visit to the community on Sunday.
SaharaReporters had reported that Lakurawa fighters were moving openly through communities in the Borgu axis, preaching their ideology and threatening residents who refused to accept their teachings.
Community sources told SaharaReporters that the terrorists arrived in Zugurma on Sunday in broad daylight and stayed for several hours while addressing residents.
According to the sources, the armed men used the gathering to preach to the community and announce what they described as rules that residents were expected to follow.
"They stayed in the community for hours preaching to people. During the meeting, they said any girl above 15 years must be married off. They also announced that bride price, known as sadaki, should be fixed at N1,500," a community source told SaharaReporters.
Residents described the announcement as part of what they fear is an attempt by the group to gradually impose its authority and influence on local communities.
The source said Zugurma is a strategically important community because it sits along the only major road connecting Borgu to Mokwa.
"Zugurma is on the only good road connecting Borgu to Mokwa. The road from New Bussa to Mokwa is the route through which people in Borgu connect with other parts of the country. What is happening here should concern everyone," the source said.
The latest incident has increased fears among residents who believe Lakurawa fighters are expanding their presence across the forest areas of Borgu and neighbouring communities.
Residents recalled that weeks earlier, hundreds of armed men suspected to be members of the group were seen moving from Kebbi State towards Borgu on motorcycles.
Witnesses said hundreds of motorcycles were involved, with at least two armed men on each motorcycle.
"A large convoy of armed men came from Kebbi. There were hundreds of motorcycles and possibly over a thousand fighters. They moved through the area without resistance," another resident alleged.
Community members warned that several rural settlements and forest communities in Borgu are becoming increasingly vulnerable to armed groups, raising fears that the area could be isolated if urgent action is not taken.
"Many communities in the hinterland are already dealing with bandits and jihadist groups. If nothing is done, Borgu could become completely cut off," a source said.
Residents also accused authorities of failing to respond adequately despite repeated warnings over the deteriorating security situation in the area.
Borgu Local Government Area is among Nigeria’s largest local government areas by landmass.
Community leaders noted that when combined with Kaiama and Baruten local government areas of Kwara State and parts of Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, the region covers a vast forest terrain that remains difficult to secure.
"The forests are massive, and that is why we keep speaking out. Every day of inaction gives these groups more room to expand. We have little left except our voices and prayers," a resident said.
The development comes amid growing concerns over Lakurawa’s activities in remote communities across parts of north-western and north-central Nigeria, with residents alleging that the group has been using religious preaching as a means of gaining influence.
