MadamExcellency:
Canada has a population of around 40 million people. However, its economy is smaller than that of five individual U.S. states, which suggests a degree of economic dependence or influence from the United States. This situation indicates that Canada operates within a framework that limits its economic autonomy.
Five US States depend on Canada for electricity including almighty NY. United States Imports from Canada of Iron and steel was US$7.69 Billion during 2024, according to the United Nations COMTRADE database on international trade.
PoliticsKogi Central Constituents Vow To Proceed With Petition To Recall Senator Natasha by blamingthedevil(op): 10:41pm On Apr 03, 2025
Constituents of Kogi Central Senatorial District have thanked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for validating 208,132 (43.86%) of the signatures submitted in their petition for the recall of the suspended lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents the District in the National Assembly.

While the constituents noted that they had mobilised more than the required 50% plus one threshold of registered voters and submitted their petition with full documentation, they believe that the validation of 43.86% of signatures by INEC is a clear indication that the people of Kogi Central have rejected the embattled senator.

“Apparently, INEC canceled not less than 35,000 signatures at the administrative stage,” the constituents said while reacting to a statement on the recall process issued by the electoral umpire.

The constituents expressed their unwavering resolve to move forward with the recall process and bring the Senator home in a statement issued Thursday and signed by Salihu Habib on behalf of the petitioners.

“We will liaise with INEC within the full ambits of the Constitution and regulations to demand for transparency in the handling of our petition. We have utmost confidence in the Commission not to subject the recall process to ambiguity or administrative opacity,” the constituents said.

BusinessRe: America Automaker Lays Off 900 After Trump Tariffs by blamingthedevil(op): 10:08pm On Apr 03, 2025
Stellantis has “paused production” at some of its Canadian and Mexican auto assembly plants due to the newly announced tariffs — and as a result, some US workers will also be temporarily laid off.

Among those to be laid off are 900 US hourly employees who make powertrains and stampings that supply the affected Canadian and Mexican plants, Stellantis said Thursday. The temporary layoffs are due to reduced production prompted by the tariffs.

The affected US employees work at five different Midwest plants: the Warren Stamping and Sterling Stamping plants in Michigan, as well as the Indiana Transmission Plant, Kokomo Transmission Plant and Kokomo Casting Plant, all in Kokomo, Indiana.

“Stellantis said on Thursday it was temporarily laying off 900 workers at five U.S. facilities after President Donald Trump’s tariffs were announced, and temporarily pausing production at an assembly plant in Mexico and one in Canada,” Reuters reports.

“The maker of Ram trucks and Jeeps said the U.S. plants affected are powertrain and stamping facilities that provide parts for the two factories in Mexico and Canada that are being idled.”

Ignorance speaking. If a cup of tomatoes is $10 in the US and an Asian cup of tomatoes is $6. When 100% tariffs are implemented, the Asian tomatoes will cost $12.

Why do you think used imported cars to Nigeria cost more despite being sold in the US and other countries for a little above $1k or less depending on the make and specs? Because of the tariffs placed on those goods.
Dumb mumudient. Why is BYD not allowed in US Market?

President Trump, as part of his expansive package of new tariffs, levied taxes on a number of uninhabited or sparsely populated islands that have little-to-no exports.

The announcement of new tariffs on Wednesday will hit nearly all foreign countries with a baseline tax at 10 percent. The administration also announced higher tariffs on others, ballooning up to 54 percent.

Manufacturing is no longer a competitive advantage for America. The U.S. simply can't compete in this sector anymore and should instead focus on maintaining its edge in services. Even with a 100% tariff imposed by Trump, goods manufactured in Asia would still be cheaper than those produced in the U.S. Curious to know why?

PoliticsFormer President Buhari Hails President Bola Tinubu At 73 by blamingthedevil(op): 1:03pm On Mar 29, 2025
ON THE OCCASION OF TINUBU’S BIRTHDAY, EX-PRESIDENT BUHARI SAYS, “I AM PROUD OF OUR ASSOCIATION”

Former President Muhammadu Buhari underscored the bond between him and the President with a call, joining the family and the nation in celebrating the birthday of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu.

In a telephone call on Friday, the former President said he and the members of his family are in prayers for Tinubu for long life, good health and the successful administration of the country by the President, as he marks his birthday.

“When we pray for our leaders, we are praying for ourselves and the nation. We owe this to ourselves and the nation,” Muhammadu Buhari said to President Tinubu.

The former President said his family and himself remain indebted to President Tinubu and other leaders of the party for the invaluable contributions they made towards the formation of the All Progressives Congress, APC, catapulting him to the presidency for two terms, after failed attempts in the past, and in helping to produce another APC administration with the Asiwaju himself at its head.

“No doubt, the annals of the country will not be complete without bringing into mention and without a recognition of the varied and numerous roles of President Tinubu as an entrepreneur, a party stalwart, a staunch activist, party organizer, party builder, a reliable ally and a serial winner of democratic elections. I am truly proud of my association with the Asiwaju.

“When Nigerians handed the baton of leadership to the APC in 2015, it was a mandate to lay the foundation for a new Nigeria where the poor get opportunities for a better future and I am glad that the vision is not lost. It was a victory of all those who wish the country’s good.”

He also used the opportunity to wish the President, his family, and the nation
a successful completion of the Ramadan fast and a happy and joyful Sallah (Eid).

Signed.
