The NFF Technical Committee will meet today in Abuja to discuss an immediate replacement for Sunday Oliseh after the Delta born coach tendered his resignation in the early hours of Friday morning. The coach who as at yesterday told Nigerians he was working hard and scouting players to ensure Nigeria beat Egypt in the double header AFCON qualifiers next month, shocked Nigerians by going on Twitter to tender his resignation citing 'unfavourable working conditions' and 'contract violations' as reasons for quitting the job. In his letter sent to the NFF General secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, and dated February 25, 2016, he said. “Your contractual violations and the interest of the nation necessitates that I tender my resignation and recourse to the termination of our working agreement,” Former Super Eagles coach and technical director Shuaibu Amodu and Olympic team coach Samson Siasia have been reportedly penciled as temporary replacements to take over for the must win match against Egypt next month. Siasia posted a short stint as Eagles coach between 2010 and 2011. He was fired after he failed to qualify the country to the 2012 AFCON in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea while Amodu has twice helped Nigeria qualify for the World Cup in 2002 and 2014. By Soni Daniel, Northern Region Editor ABUJA—Barely a week after Admiral Alison Madueke (retd) was invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the anti-graft agency yesterday, moved against Mr. Donald Chidi Amamgbo, a cousin of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke. https://cdn1.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Donald-Chidi-Amamgbo.jpg Donald Chidi Amamgbo Mr. Amamgbo, believed to have played a pivotal role in oil lifting while Mrs. Alison-Madueke held sway as Petroleum Minister, was arrested in Lagos at about 4.20p.m. yesterday. Vanguard learned that Amamgbo is chief executive of Mezcor Oil and Gas limited, Tridax Oil and Gas Limited, Lynear Energy Limited and Bulk Strategic Reserves Limited. Operatives also searched his Abuja office and premises at 5, Sannar Street, Wuse 2. A source in the agency disclosed that sensitive documents, showing how the firm bought choice property, were retrieved during the search. Amamgbo allegedly got approval to lift Nigerian crude oil without any requisite experience. Through his companies, Amamgbo was said to have lifted crude oil and gas worth billions of dollars over a period of four years. Sources at the commission said investigation into the case was continuing. At press time, it was not clear if he would be granted administrative bail. The arrest of Amamgbo comes barely a week after the EFCC quizzed Diezani’s husband over some cash found in his accounts. He was, however, released after making statement to the operatives. https://cdn1.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Oliseh11.jpg SUPER Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh has claimed that he was approached by an unnamed top African nation last year but turned down their offer. Oliseh, 41, revealed at one of the sessions of the Social Media Week on Thursday that the offer from the African country came in just three months after he took charge of Nigeria’s Super Eagles. Oliseh “I must state that within three months of coaching the Super Eagles, I got an offer from a top African nation to become the coach of their national team, but I turned it down,” Oliseh said via Skype from his base in Belgium. Oliseh also said that there have been improvement in the style of play of the Super Eagles and the results as the team have lost just once in competitive matches since he took charge. He wants football analysts in his country to help inform fans with the correct information about the national team. “We have lost just one competitive match in 14. That is an improvement. The team has improved in areas of movement and passing of the ball, so analysts must give fans the correct information because the team has improved in a very short time considering that there are new players in the team too,” Oliseh said on Thursday. GIVING What does the bible teach on principles for Christian giving? As we seek God's answer to that question and as we contemplate our own giving to the Lord's church in response to the clear teaching of His Word, perhaps it would be wise and helpful to review those principles here. Matthew 6:1-4 Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven. So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I directed the churches of Galatia, so do you also. On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come. 2 Corinthians 8:9-15 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich. I give my opinion in this matter, for this is to your advantage, who were the first to begin a year ago not only to do this, but also to desire to do it. But now finish doing it also, so that just as there was the readiness to desire it, so there may be also the completion of it by your ability. For if the readiness is present, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. For this is not for the ease of others and for your affliction, but by way of equality - at this present time your abundance being a supply for their need, so that their abundance also may become a supply for your need, that there may be equality; as it is written, "HE WHO gathered MUCH DID NOT HAVE TOO MUCH, AND HE WHO gathered LITTLE HAD NO LACK." 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. The way we give is an indication of our love for God. All things belong to God. God says in Psalms 50:10, "For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills." Everything we have received has come from God. God has only loaned them to us. John 3:27 says, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from above." We can never out-give God. In Luke 6:38 we read, "Give and it shall be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you." We give so the Lord's church can better carry out its mission here on earth. The world must be evangelized, and the church must be edified, and the needy must be helped. Giving is one of the commands of Christ. In 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 we read, "Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also. On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper that there be no collections when I come." We see the giving here was to help the poor saints in Jerusalem. Notice also they were to make a regular collection every first day of the week. Because of everything God has given us, including His Son to die for us, we should be anxious to give back to Him. In 2 Corinthians 8:12 we read, "For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have." God expects us to give what we are able to give. How can our love for God be real unless it is expressed in our obedience and our giving? Our giving is an expression of love, and act of praise, and sacrifice to God. How we give is an indication of where our priorities are. Jesus says in Matthew 6:19-21, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth and rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Where is your heart? Since we can't out-give God, we should at least be liberal in our giving. As we read in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7, "He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver." Our giving is to be planned. We should not give because we feel we have to give. Nor should we resent that we need to give to please God. We should be glad that we can give to the Lord. We should never try to impress other people with our giving. If we do we already have our reward. Giving needs to be a private matter. We should not seek recognition for the things we do. Jesus says in Matthew 6:1-4, "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen of them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly." We should seek the approval of God and not the glory of men. Our giving should not only include material possessions but we must first give ourselves to God. We are told in Romans 12:1, "I beseech you therefore, brethern, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service." If we will first give ourselves to the Lord, we will have no problem in being liberal in our giving. Our liberal giving is part of worshipping God "in spirit and in truth." Johnson Olawunmi, has said prospective corps members with first class degree and their counterparts, who graduated with distinction from the polytechnics, would henceforth be posted to tertiary institutions for their primary assignment. The NYSC chief disclosed this in Kaduna on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of 2015 Batch ‘B’ Pre-Mobilization Workshop. The Director of Corps Mobilisation, Mr. Anthony Ani, also explained that workshop would critically “look at the data entry used for the exercise for the Senate approved list, the list of approved corps producing institutions and the list of accredited courses.” Olawunmi, who enumerated his reform programmes aimed at improving service delivery and efficiency in the NYSC, said if fully implemented, the NYSC programme would go through a seamless process and add value to young Nigerian graduates. The results of the ranking which is available on the web http:/ranking.journalsconsortium.org/ indicated that South African institutions dominate the top 10 with University of Cape Town topping the rank with a Total Influence Factor (TIF) of 45.02, followed by Cairo University (43.43) and the University of Pretoria (43.35). The top 10 include six institutions from South Africa, two from Egypt and one each from Kenya and Nigeria (University of Ibadan). First generation universities were in top positions in the latest ranking with University of Ibadan coming eighth and first in Nigeria followed by University of Nigeria (13th), Ahmadu Bello University (18th), University of Lagos (UNILAG-20th), Obafemi Awolowo University (24th), University of Ilorin (31st), University of Port Harcourt (36th), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (42nd), University of Calabar (43rd), Federal University of Technology (FUTA, 49the) while the only private university in the top list is Covenant University which is placed 53rd in the ranking. IMSU Students Are Being Molest By Police The Students of Imo State University (IMSU) have cried out to the state government and management of the institution over unlawful police arrest. The students who pleaded anonymity had these to say: The first duty of the police is to maintain law and order in a state not behave unlawfully or cause disorder in the state. The students of Imo State University are faced with academic, feeding and security hustles and now, we are faced with improper arrests and forceful violation of freedom without proper situation analysis and investigation. The police cannot keep arresting students carelessly based on a tip-off or if they were offered money to do such. If nothing incriminating is found with the student at the point of apprehension, what then could be the reason for making an arrest even without asking for the student’s identity card, the police could pick up any student on the road and throw him or her in a cell. This has to stop as students of Imo State University cannot take it anymore. The arrest of over 20 students both male and female holding a faculty meeting along Okigwe Road without reason only proves the inefficiency of the police in Imo State. These students were not put in detention but thrown into a cell with prisoners until the next day when the chaplain of Chapel of the Holy Spirit, IMSU, the Chief Security Officer, IMSU and the University Electoral Committee Chairman had to intervene and seek for the release of the students. The unscrupulous release of tear gas by the police in Okwu-Uratta Students Alliance – an off campus location for students on an unreasonable basis only goes to show how ineffective and deadly the police which is meant to protect students have become. What if a student running from the tear gas was shot in the process? What if an innocent student standing around has asthma? There is no excuse for careless behaviour by the police as a reasonable level of training should have been undergone by the police before being put on the field. No, you cannot throw a student into a cell full of prisoners if you don’t find anything on him and he has his identity card. No, you cannot shoot your guns sporadically or throw tear gas in a student’s environment. No, you cannot arrest students and not allow them make calls to tell their family and friends where they are. No, you cannot arrest a student if you have been paid to do that. No, you cannot arrest a student who have lawfully done nothing and allow him sleep in one of your unkempt and amazingly dirty prison cells while you go home to your family and sleep on a clean bed. Yes, you can arrest students caught with incriminating materials. Yes, you can arrest student’s that disturb the peace of other students. Yes, you can arrest and detain a student who is disobeying law and order and cannot prove that he is a student by identity or representation. Money should not be the first priority of the police in the state especially when it concerns students who from every investigation if done properly are innocent of accused crimes. Rather than apprehend cultist’s and armed robbers disturbing the peace of students off campus and on campus, the police find joy in making easy arrests that does not involve gunfights or stress for the purpose of extortion of their innocent victims who are our students. This issue has gone out of hand and something has to be done by the university administration currently led by Prof. Ada Obasi the Ag. Vice Chancellor of the university especially the Imo State Government being that His Excellency, Owelle Anayo Okorocha is the visitor to the university. The University of Porthacourt once again became the center of discourse within academic and elite circles when the recent results of the Times Higher Education (THE) place her in the number 1 position in Nigeria. Not only is UNIPORT ranked 1st in Nigeria, she also came 6th in Africa. https://www.nigeriaschool.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/University-of-Port-Harcourt-uniport.jpg The ranking was carried out by Times Higher Education (THE), a United Kingdom-based authoritative source for information about higher education. Placed behind four South African universities and one Ugandan university, UniPort made the cut following the number of papers presented over a period of time. In this chart by world’s most trusted rankings provider, THE, it reveals the first glimpse of future Africa University Rankings. “The university rankings provider has revealed the top 15 universities in the region, based solely on their scores for research influence – in other words, how much African universities’ research papers are referred to and cited by other academics across the globe,” THE said in a statement. The research institute noted that: “To be included in this future-gazing table, an institution must have published a minimum of 500 research papers in the five year period assessed with at least 50 papers per year,” it said. University of Port Harcourt was the only Nigerian university ranked in the top 15. The full table, which contains the top 30 universities in Africa, will be revealed at the inaugural Times Higher Education Africa Universities Summit, which is billed to take place on 30th and 31st July at the University of Johannesburg. “As the first major public consultation on the future THE Africa University Rankings, academic leaders and opinion formers will discuss plans for a full and comprehensive ranking for the region. “This new ranking will be based on Times Higher Education’s respected World University Rankings, but shaped following this initial meeting by bespoke metrics designed to meet the region’s specific challenges. “Times Higher Education is therefore calling for opinion formers from across the region to attend the Summit, founded with University of Johannesburg, to take part in the debate and help shape the future of university rankings in Africa. The ‘snapshot’ table, based on just one of THE’s five respected World University Rankings criteria – research influence, gives a good indication of what a full university ranking might look like for Africa and sees two South African institutions – the University of Cape Town and the University of Witwatersrand – take first and second place respectively. The National Youth Service Corps has expressed concern over the rejection of corps members by government institutions to do their internship, directing that henceforth, all organisations especially ministries, departments and agencies should “always accept corps members posted to them for primary assignment.” https://liveschoolnews.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/nysc-300x225.jpg A statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Abosede Aderibigbe, reminded the MDAs that “corps members are, as far as possible, posted based on their disciplines and within the limits imposed by the current NYSC posting policy.” She said, “All corps employers are to note that the corps members answered the clarion call to participate in the national service out of patriotism and have always passionately looked forward to rendering services for the progress of their fatherland. “In view of the foregoing, all stakeholders, including employers, are requested to always give the young men and women of the NYSC the necessary support and encouragement, by accepting them whenever they are posted for primary assignment. “It is noteworthy that rejection of corps members posted to organisations, resulting in some of them roaming the streets in search of places of service, is at variance with the ideals of the founding fathers of the NYSC scheme and should therefore be discouraged by all well-meaning Nigerians. “On our part, we in the NYSC remain committed to contributing to the socio-economic development of our dear country through harnessing of the potentials of these patriotic youth, and will continue to count on the support of all and sundry in that regard.” Source:http://campushint.com/2015/07/nysc-plead-with-mdas-to-stop-rejecting-corps-members/ Cc:yokiti, Cc:Ogbeche77 Cc:CrazyMan |
