EducationUI Staffs Paralyze Academic Activities, Locked All Lecture Halls by blazincruz(op): 11:29pm On Jul 01, 2015
Academic activities were this morning paralyzed at the University of Ibadan (UI), as the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the institution locked all lecture halls.

Academic activities have been halted in almost every departments of the institution as students could not enter the school premises following the closure of the entrances to the school by the aggrieved workers.
image

It was learnt that the union members are on strike.

A student who did not want his name in print told our reporter that they met the lecture halls locked and no one has explained the reasons of the strike.

“I have no idea why NASU is on strike,” he said.

“But they locked all lecture rooms and theatres this morning.”

He added that some of the academic staffs are also unaware of the strike and had wanted to hold lectures.

“The lecturer who addressed us said the lecturers are willing to work but the NASU issue has to be resolved first,” the student added.

It is believed that the strike action is connected to the Federal Government’s order that universities should stop payment of salaries of teachers of University Demonstration Primary Schools (UDPS).

It would be recalled that, over 200 placards carrying protesters, made up of university staff from Nnamdi Azikwe University Awka (UNIZIK), Ebonyi State University, Federal University of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State University and Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), partook in a protest march.

They have also severally called for the removal of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Julius Okojie.

The senior workers in Nigerian universities have indicated their intention to embark on an industrial action any time soon against the decision of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to stop the funding of federal universities staff schools in their budget.

EducationNBTE Suspendes Federal Poly Idah Engineering Programmes by blazincruz(op): 11:04pm On Jul 01, 2015
The National Board for Technical Education has suspended admission of students into
all engineering programmes at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi State.

It was learnt that this is as a result of a petition by the National Diploma students of the polytechnic.

In the petition, the students lamented the absence of practical learning in the polytechnic’s School of Engineering.

Stating further that the school laboratories has been locked permanently due to lack of
facilities.

They also complained about low practical learning for engineering programmes in the polytechnic due to a large number of
students in a class.

Following this, the NBTE through the public Relation Officer of the board Mallam Suleiman Gwarzo, have issued a statement suspending all engineering Programmes offered in the institution.

Excerpts of the statement read, “

Theinvestigation confirmed the students’ allegation, after it was observed that at the (ND) level, the number of students enrolled
was between 300 and 400 students.

“This was in violation of the approved carrying capacity for the programmes.
“Based on the above observations and to ensure that standards are maintained, the board has directed that the institution should stop further admissions into its
engineering programmes.

“This, according to the statement, will continue until all the deficiencies observed
are corrected.”

The statement added that the board had also advised the Registrar, Joint Admissions
and Matriculation Board, Prof. Dibu
Ojerinde, to accordingly stop all processes of admission into all Engineering programmes in the institution.

LiteratureA Diamond Covered In Soot By Amina Idris by blazincruz(op): 9:04am On Jun 19, 2015
The world is no longer a safe place, there was a time when everything was black and white, a nice bold line was drawn between good and bad.

But now its all shades of gray, your boyfriend could be a serial killer, your best friend could have Ebola and your neighbor could be a terrorist.

I considered Mr Aregbesola to be a terrorist, stalker and obnoxious ridiculous addition to the society, I might sound harsh but he had been knocking on my door for the past 20 minutes, he moved over to the window after there was no response from the door.

I’m absolutely sure its him because only him can be that annoying, I know he won’t leave until I answer him. Wrapping myself in my duvet I scamper to the window in the disheveled state of just waking up, I really didn’t care how I looked in front of Mr Aregbesola.

‘Good Afternoon Miss Lara.’ He greeted as soon as I opened the window.

‘Good day Mr Aregbesola is it noon already.’ I asked as uninterested as I could sound.

‘Yes it is sleeping beauty.’

I almost choked when he said that, he got silent for a while I was wondering why he had to disrupt my beauty sleep.

‘Mr Aregbesola what happened, did Oga landlord send you?’

‘No.’

‘Then why were you knocking like that.’

‘Well its noon and there has been no sign of movement in your apartment so I decided to check on you.’

Holy ghost fire should fire this man, I work from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, I decide to oversleep on Saturday and someone has a problem with it.

‘Mr Aregbesola it’s Saturday.’

‘I know, what are your plans for the day Miss Lara?

‘My plans, I will be going out with my boyfriend later in the day.’

‘Oh errm Mr Zak.’

‘Yes.’

‘What are you doing now.’

‘Mr Aregbesola, I just woke up.’

‘Can I come in?

‘No I want to clean my house.’

‘I could help with that.’

‘Ehen oya now.’ I motioned him to come inside.

About 30 mins later, Mr Aregbesola had finished cleaning my sitting room and kitchen my mouth hung open, it was spic and span and he was even making breakfast.

‘Mr Aregbesola you dey cook join.’ I said in pidgin English which I know Mr Aregbesola clearly despises, because he teaches English in a secondary school and was obsessed with idea of teaching and leading by example.

We ate together and talked all the way, Mr Aregbesola was not actually a terrorist at all times, in fact he was a good company and a great Cook.

‘Your wife is really going to be lucky o.’ I said as I relished the food.

‘You think so.’ He asked his face lighting up.

‘Yes you’re so,… so…., so……. down to earth.’ Words had eluded and it seemed it was not rightly said.

‘I see, that’s quite an idiom to use, you know it stands in for funny.’ He said, his smile fading rapidly.

‘Mr Aregbesola I didn’t mean it like that.’

‘It’s okay Miss Lara, I can understand, also that a fine lady like you wouldn’t go out with a clown.’

‘Mr Aregbesola, why are you vexing now.’ I said in an attempt to lighten the mood.

‘I could never get mad at you Miss Lara even if I wanted to.’ He said his cheerful face back.

My phone rang, it was Zak so I excused myself.

‘Mr Aregbesola, thanks for everything, I will have to prepare to go and meet Zak.’ I told him.

‘Please do stay away from Westmore Mall and South gate Plaza.’ He said as he was leaving.

‘Why?’

‘Some inmates broke out of kakarakaka prison and they’re allegedly staying in that area, policemen have the area under siege but you know criminals have their way.’

I was very well aware that Mr Aregbesola had great interest in me but there were alot of things that didn’t just add up.

Mr Aregbesola was not lacking in the looks dept, he had the height, a nice dark colour and well proportioned body but he lacked a lot in Swag . He had absolutely no social sense, he wore stripped shirts on stripped trousers.

Zak my boyfriend on the other hand could never Fall my hand in looks and appearance.

If I had to go home with a man it had to be Zak who had an MBA and worked in a bank rather than Mr Aregbesola who had NCE and taught in a secondary school.

Dressed to kill I was about to get into my car when Mr Aregbesola called out.

‘Miss Lara please can you drop me on your way.’ He said.

‘Of course.’ And we drove off.

I met Zak at South gate plaza, he sent a text that he was there and I forgot about Mr Aregbesola’s warning until I reached the Plaza.

‘Zak why did you choose this place.’ I asked when I remembered.

‘What’s wrong with it Baby.’ He said looking through the menu, as usual Zak looked great.

‘I heard its not safe that some inmates from…….’

‘Its just a speculation relax.’ He said cutting me off.

‘You didn’t even hear me out.’ I protested mildly.

‘Just forget it and eat.’ He said dismssively.

Half way through the meal several gunshost blasted in the air, I looked up and hideous looking masked men were in the restaurant, shouts pierced the air. Zak immediately ran to my back and crouched behind me and held my clothes to shield himself.

One of the men came towards us, pointing a gun at us and said.

‘Gimmi ya phone.’

Zak who was still ducking behind me collected my blackberry passport and gave him within the blink of an eye.

‘Issat all.’ He asked jagging the gun at me.

I don’t know what happened or why the trigger was pulled but I saw Zak running out for his dear life before I blacked out.

I woke up in the hospital, the narrow bed and antiseptic smell could attest to that. I saw My Mother and Mr Aregbesola gisting like old friends. Mr Aregbesola looked towards me and announced that I was awake. They started singing praise songs.

Later my mother told me that Mr Aregbesola had brought me to the hospital, she said Zak’s ID was found there.

I asked Mr Aregbesola how he found me, he told me that he followed me to South gate plaza.

‘I’m sorry I was stalking you but I got there late.’ He said apologetically.

‘It was my great fortune you were stalking me.’

Weeks later as I took a stroll with Mr Aregbesola, he stopped and looked at me.

‘I know I’m not up to your standards Miss Lara but I can make adjustments.’ He said and he was making efforts, I knew cause he bought forms to enroll into the university, he had started dressing better.

‘Oh Mr Aregbesola, what standards are you talking about, you’re a good man and that’s what matters the most.’

I realized how I was close to loosing a diamond because I was busy looking at shiny objects and beside me was a diamond covered in soot, all it needed was wiping.

‘Miss Lara, I really lov…. Care about you.’ He said, sincerity shone in his eyes.

‘I know, can you just call me Lara, do away with the Miss please.’

‘In that case call me kumkum.’

‘Is that your name.’

‘Yes kumkum Aikhome Eragbai Danladi Aregbesola.’

‘Now that’s a mouthful.’

EducationFederal Poly Oko Denies “dead” Student Writing Exam Rumours by blazincruz(op): 3:20am On Jun 19, 2015
The Management authority of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra state has denied rumours that a dead student wrote
an examination and was awarded marks in the institution, describing the report as malicious, misleading and inciting.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Obini Onuchukwu, who spoke to the South East Voice, those making
the alleged malicious allegations that a deceased student was awarded marks due to the irregularities in the CBT were
mischievous.

Obini, who spoke on behalf of the
Management, explained that after an investigation into the matter, it was discovered that a student of Science Laboratory Technology, late Uche Henry, participated in all academic work, including examinations in August 2014 but died at about 9p.m. on Sept 17.

He said that the deceased student having passed all his course work had his results released along with those of his mates, but unfortunately some staff cashed on the situation with some few students in the department to blackmail the institution.

According to him, the Federal Polytechnic Oko produced best students now, with its sophisticated electronic teaching aids and other facilities in place.

PoliticsGov Wike Sacks 344n Staff Of State Polytechnic by blazincruz(op): 1:20am On Jun 18, 2015
The newly sworn Rivers State governor, Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike has terminate the appointment of 344 newly recruited staff, including lecturers of the State Polytechnic, Bori.

The government has also directed the Rector of the polytechnic, Sir Obianko Worlu Elechi to proceed on compulsory leave.

The sack workers as gathered by our correspondent were recruited during the immediate past administration of former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

This was promulgate to liveschoolnews.com.ng grapevine by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, Innocent Ogbonnaya Nwanwo.

Nwanwo said the sack of the newly recruited staff, as well as the directive on the Rector to proceed on compulsory leave was contained in a directive sent to the Polytechnic by the State Ministry of Education.

He said, “The recent employment exercise we had at the Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori has been cancelled. The reason is that the government needed to review the process of their employment. The process that brought in the newly employed people; don’t forget, they have not started work, has been called off; it has been terminated by the state government.

“Right now, they don’t have a job here in the Rivers State Polytechnic. Technically speaking, that is the truth. The Rector is on leave; he was asked to proceed on leave.”

One of the sacked lecturers of the institution, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said their recruitment, which followed due process dates back to September 2014.

He, therefore, called on Governor Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike, the State House of Assembly, and the authority of the Polytechnic to intervene on the matter.

Education[ARTICLE] How To Manage Examination Anxiety By Grapevine by blazincruz(op): 11:30pm On Jun 17, 2015
Examination is a review of what has been learnt. It provides avenue for feedback and
evaluation for placement, selection and promotion.

Anxiety on the other hand, is a psychological state of restlessness, normally associated with feelings of insecurity, loss of self-worth and inadequacy. During examination, students often experience high level of anxiety even when they know the materials well. Though, every individual requires a minimal dosage of anxiety as a pre-requisite for motivation impetus.

SYMPTONS OF EXAMINATION ANXIETY:
Insomnia/Restlessness, Inability to concentrate, Boredom, Increased Heartbeat,
Confusion/Intense sweating, etc.

HANDLING EXAMINATION ANXIETY:
Approach the examination with confidence: Use whatever you can to personalise success; visualisation, taking to yourself, practice, team work etc.

Be prepared: Learn your materials thoroughly and organise the materials you will need for the examination. Allow yourself plenty of time. Strive for a relaxed state of concentration.
Get a good night’s sleep, the night before the examination.

Literature[article] Overcoming Your First Failure By Sir Sam by blazincruz(op): 2:46pm On Jun 17, 2015
Once we have gathered our wits and ready to bounce, with our entire mind seeing nothing but success in what we are about to embark upon; the worst thing that could happen to one’s confidence, gathered over the period of preparation and expectation, is failure.

Imagine when we have tried to make something work by preparing for it, and it still didn’t come out as a success. Imagine being confident that what you were about to do will surely succeed but it didn’t turn out to be so. Failure, at this particular time, is something like a shock that may never be recovered from. One’s confidence goes lean and there is just one outcome in our mind for the next task- failure. So, we tend to cower at the safe corner for the fear of failing the second time. The feeling that we are going to fail again becomes like the wind, and we prefer not to act so as not to fail again.

As much as failure is negative, it is sometimes necessary and thus, a positive thing if one decided to accept that there is still a chance for improvement.

Now, how can we overcome this first defeat, and still forge ahead to continue with the same confidence we wore when the first attempt turned out to be a failure?

RELAX

Everybody fails. Even the most successful people we hear and learn about have a moment of failure in what they now parade as their product of success. You don’t need to rush into the next step of either trying again or trying another one; not especially if you wanted to repeat the same process. Have a time to relax without even thinking of your failure; do something else, but not for a long time whereby you take your mind off the task. This period of a time is when you take a little vacation not more than three days.

EMBRACE FAILURE

Failure is not necessarily a negative thing. Most people tend to disassociate themselves from this outcome, but will only find themselves back right in. if you have taken five steps to a failure, then, failure, which is the outcome is either telling you have taken the wrong step(s), you have taken too many steps, or you should have taken extra steps. Failure simply shows us a better way to do things. Therefore, seeing failure as a negative thing is not an option, but as a negative outcome for a positive reload.

REPLAY

Yes, after you short vacation, you need to sit down and replay the exact process you took that failed. There shout be a link to your failure. You probably didn’t do something right, and you need to figure it out. Have you wondered why referees tend not to see some particular blunders they committed while referring a match until when they watch the replay? Watching the replay makes it easier to learn from their mistakes and probably do it better the next time.

You may eventually realize that you have picked the wrong location, chosen the wrong product, targeted the wrong market, done little or no advertisement and so on. You may realize that you have done the wrong calculation, omitted an equation, followed the wrong step, and overlooked the right formula and so on. If you take your time, you will surely find the link.

BLAME THE MISTAKES

Now that we have understood where we erred, we need to accept the minimal blames here. Of course, we will not deny the fact that we were the ones that miscalculated, but right now, what we don’t need to do is to carry the whole blame by being too hard on ourselves. Psychologically, this may be a tough stain to scrub off if we eventually see ourselves as a failure, someone who couldn’t do it right rather than accepting that the mistakes, which, of course, should have been avoided caused the while failure. For example, our failure to understand that we were targeting the wrong market may be the result of our failure, and so, we need to understand that targeting the wrong market was the mistake and the culprit here. We must refuse to accept that we will always fail because it is easy to do when we decided to carry the whole blame.

REV

This is the time where you get ready for the next step. The only option is to move on, and you need to begin; there is no stopping. Now that we understand the crux of the failure, let us begin by getting ready to restart. Be ready to do it right, prepare the way for the next step. Strike out the mistakes, lay down the new frameworks and be ready for a fresh work. This time around, we are doing it the right way. So, revving is just like gathering potentials for the next task.

SURGE

Yes, we failed, and our shop was closed; now, we are ready to open and we must start with full force. We must be ready to cover for the time wasted while the shop was closed and we must be ready to take over the market this time around. This will only be possible after we have done our research properly this time around. So, let’s surge forward and take the world by surprise.

Remember, failure is not the end, it was just the beginning. And remember, the end result matters. Let’s go all out now, and rewrite the success story.

He noted that the immediate past administration issued a N100 million cheque to the union as part payment for their unpaid allowances but that the said cheque bounced.

Dr Jonathan, who said the union embarked on strike due to lack of sincerity and commitment on the part of the past government in the state, expressed willingness to suspend its strike if the present administration is ready to meet part of their demands while negotiation continues.

He urged the present administration of Governor Darius Ishaku to give priority to the funding of the university to enhance quality education, just as he called for improvement of staff welfare to enable them offer the best to the university.

He said insinuation that lecturers usually embarked on strike without regard for students welfare, was a gross misconception. He added that all the strikes they had embarked upon were for genuine reasons.

CrimeShocking Truth Of How 38 Illicit Gin Drinkers Died by blazincruz(op): 10:53am On Jun 10, 2015
Proprietor of dog meat joint, Mr. Friday Dickson, purported to have laced the delicacy with killer- seasoning, hotly denied the allegation. He spoke toNiger Delta Voice at the Woji Police Divisional Headquarters, where he is under custody. Irate youths razed his restaurant, but Dickson, who has been in the business for over a decade, recalled that a man called Chikobi and Chiefo brought the local gin to his restaurant that Sunday allegedly to celebrate his new chieftaincy title

Curiously, the celebrant did not drink the gin he brought. The wife of one of the victims corroborated Dickson’s story. The mysterious Chikobi, said to be a Yoruba man from Ogun state, is on the run after the episode but Dickson said he could recognize him if he sees him. There is also a puzzle on how the killer-gin got to Bonny and Gokhana local governments. Chikobi came to Woji but there is no information on who took the gin to aforementioned two local governments.

Except he left Woji for the Bonny and Gokhana after the “celebration of death” or they were other merchants of death. Investigation by Niger Delta Voice revealed that many of the victims expired wrestling with death, vomiting and complaining of abdominal pain. Some lost their vision, cried of chest and waist pains.

Jarry fought death

Niger Delta Voice witnessed the death of a victim, Mr. Jarry, who passed away inside a tricycle that was conveying him home. The poison apparently reacted at the point, as he started struggling with unseen forces at the back seat of the Keke NAPEP. The panic-stricken tricycle driver took to his heels. Our reporter saw him go to meet his Maker.

Akpan left church to dine with the devil.

The death of Engr Joseph Akpan is pathetic. He left a Church service on the ill-fated Sunday against the counsel of his wife and a church member to partake in the drink at the dog meat joint. Moreover, after the drinking spree, he refused to confess to his apprehensive wife, a nurse, for possible medical assistance.

His bereaved wife, Mrs. Pauline Apkan, “On Monday, I was called that a man is dying within Mini-Woji and that the person drank kai kai. When I got there, I told the people to take him to the hospital that I cannot handle such case and my husband was having pity for the man the way he was shouting and rolling on the floor. Later the man died.

“I remembered that on Sunday, somebody called my husband while we were in the church and he left me in the church to honour the call. A man close to him in the church asked him to wait until after service then he can go and answer the call, but he refused. Maybe they told him they want to start.

“Earlier on Friday, he told me that there is a man they gave chieftaincy title in his community and he is coming to that restaurant to celebrate it. I told him that he should not go that I do not like him going to that restaurant often, but he started shouting at me, that is it because he told me? I said the man may poison him, he said do I think the man will bring poison to all the people there,” Mrs. Akpan asserted.

Her words: “So when the issue of that his friend, Fabian, that just died and other three people came up and all relating to the people that went to the bar, I asked him to tell me the truth if he went to that bar to drink, but he denied and said he only went there to charge his phone.”

Too late, he died in my hands ‑Wife

She continued, “Later, one man came and told me to look for an antidote for my husband that he met my husband drinking at that restaurant on Sunday. On Tuesday morning, he woke up saying that he cannot see again. I said but it is daybreak, he continued shouting that he cannot see.

“Soon, he said his waist and chest. That his chest is very hot I called my pastor he said I should pray for him. He started rolling and groaning, then he died in my hands. “The poison is not from the dog meat, it is that kai kai they drank. Some people who came here said people who bought only dog meat are not dying that it is only those who drank the kai kai,” she added.

I know nothing about the local gin- Dog meat joint operator

Owner of the dog meat restaurant, Mr. Dickson, told Niger Delta Voice: “I have been in this community doing this job and I did not kill anybody. That Sunday, I was inside my restaurant busy with other things I do not know what happened outside. “I only heard that one man that use to come to my restaurant, he is from Yoruba, brought kai kai for all the people there to drink. Me I do not know anything about it.”

Asked if he used other special condiments in preparing penultimate Sunday‘s delicacy, Dickson said, “I used all the ingredients that I have been using since my 10 years in Woji. I do not know the man who brought the drink. But I think they use to call him Chikobi and Chiefo, if I see him, I can recognise him but I do not know where he lives.”

Sorrow in Woji

Woji and other affected communities have been mourning since the incident. Now, all shops that trade on locally made gin in the area have closed down. The people were still in deep shock when we visited Woji. They were concerned about identifying all those that drank the deadly gin at the dog meat restaurant.

How death started

Community Development Committee, CDC, chair of Woji community, Chief (Dr) Brain Ogbonda, who also doubles as the Secretary, Woji Town Council, said: “On Monday, we received a report that three people have died in the community after consuming dog meat at a dog meat restaurant on Mini-Woji Road. Tuesday, the death toll increased to five, so that Tuesday, the community had Woji Town executive meeting.

“As the CDC chair, I was instructed by the community to follow up the issue. In course of our investigations, we heard three different stories, firstly, that somebody from Ogun state came that he is now a king and the people there crowned him a chief and poured libation that Sunday.

Monday, death started.

“Secondly, we were told that a man came from Ogun state with gin (kai kai) saying that they made him a chief in his state and all of them that were in that restaurant ate dog meat and drank the gin, but that the man himself did not drink.

“Thirdly, that they used the gin in cooking the dog meat and this sounds unbelievable. On Monday when I was at Mini-Woji, I met one of our daughters, Otunahia Chioma. She greeted me, that same Monday night, she started vomiting and then gave up.” Chief Ogbonda added, “Same Monday, I also saw one Umoh from Akwa Ibom state whose wife is a nurse, he died after awhile. So far, we have recorded 11 deaths.

“Some of the names I have here are Mr. Friday from Akwa Ibom, Miss Otunahia from Woji, Mr. Jackson Adams (popularly known as Scatter), he is a carpenter from Akwa Ibom, Mr. Jerry from Omoku in Rivers state, Umoh from Akwa Ibom and Chief Amadi Odum’s gate man also died.”

Our worries

He asserted, “Our fear now is that we do not know how many persons ate and drank the gin. The owner of the restaurant, Mr. Friday Dickson, a member of Man O War is now at Woji Police Divisional Headquarters. We are still trying to identify the man from Ogun state who brought the drink. Nobody has seen the man, we are still investigating.”

He disclosed, “Mr. Friday Dickson has been in this business of selling dog meat in our place for some years now. Those who eat dog meat in our community patronize him. We are even lucky that most of our youths who eat dog meat did not go there that Sunday. “One of our daughters was unlucky to be one of the victims. The relatives of most of the victims have taken their corpses and probably buried them and some of them are in the hospital.

“This is the first time this community is experiencing this kind of ugly situation. We cannot say it is the dog meat, the gin or the coronation per se, but we want the government to wage into the issue and find out the real cause of the death. “The gods of our land are not angry that a stranger is crowned a king in our land because the coronation they did was just out of joke. We are a developed people and we do not believe in those fetish things,” he stated.

His words: “We cannot go to juju to find out the cause of the strange deaths because this generation has gone beyond that. Christianity has taken over; we will only investigate scientifically and come out with the truth.”

Illicit gin smuggled into community

The community leader said, “We suspect that the same gin that killed people in Ondo state was smuggled into our village. Some of the people there have confirmed that those who are dying are those that drank the gin. That gin should be the cause of this death.” He added, “And for the man who brought the drink to refuse to take the drink and disappeared till now should show that he imported the dangerous drink into our community. The man is wicked; he does not reside here because we have tried to know whom he is and where he resides.

“He is a visitor to the restaurant and decided to bewitch the community. The owner of the restaurant should tell us more about the man; although it is not every customer that he should know his house.”

Police nonchalant until death escalated

Similarly, the secretary of Woji Youth Association, Mr. Daniel Adolphus, said, “The strange deaths on the streets baffles every one of us. The story we heard is that some people drank local gin on Sunday. The people are Ben, Marshal, Jackson, Fabian, Ojiboy, Chika, Jerry who just died, Otunahia who is from Woji here and Mr. Akpan.

“We as youths, we have tried in our own capacity to see how we can assist them. We have also announced that anyone who visited the restaurant last Sunday should declare himself for help. There is one funny thing that happened, when the number of death was about three, I called the police to come and assist us, but they said since my relative is not there, I should forget about the matter. However, when the death increased to 11, the police came into the issue.

“When they came, they said they have gone to the scene of the incident that they did not see anybody, I replied them that if they had come earlier, there would have been remedy to the situation. We call on the government to send medical teams to conduct some tests so that we can know what led to this whole thing,” he asserted.

…condemns burning of dog meat joint

He said, “Some angry youths from the community have already burnt down the restaurant, it is condemnable. That is the more reason we needed the police to arrest the situation. Now there is no gin or the dog meat from the restaurant to be used as sample.”

No sample yet for laboratory test

The Rivers State Centre for Disease Control has confirmed the death of 10 persons in Woji area. Director of the department, Obed Rowland Whyte, said one of the victims was female.

“We are advising the general public not to panic but should refrain from drinking locally made gin from unidentified sources pending the determination of the actual cause of the death. The report we are getting is that nine people are now dead, including one female and eight males resulting from the consumption of gin.

“The symptoms presented are similar with that of Ondo state poison, abdominal pain, vomiting, loss of vision. Already we are tracing a victim that is still alive. A sample of the drink will be taken for laboratory test. However, how to get the drink for the test is even a problem because right now, the community youths have burnt down the restaurant. “If we can get one of the victims who still have clear vision, we can get a lead into what happened. We are doing our best to control the situation,” he said.

Local gin, not dog meat caused deaths

Director of Public Health in the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Nnanna Onyekwere, said preliminary investigation showed locally made gin caused the deaths and not dog meat as being speculated. He said the ministry has taken proactive measures to investigate the cause.

“Initially, they said the people ate dog meat, but further investigations have shown that somebody sold some local drink to them. It is those that took the drink that are having issues, not those, who ate the dog meat. Our health team in conjunction with that of the local government council is already there at Woji going from house to house of those that died to get more information,” he said.

Last Friday, the Rivers State Ministry of Health confirmed the death of 38 persons in relation to the illicit gin in the state. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Somieari Isaac Harry, told reporters that 38 persons have died in relation to the consumption of an illicit gin.

He said 10 people died in Woji, Obio/Akpo local govern-ment area, 17 persons in Bonny local government area, 11 in Gokhana local government area, totaling 38, clarifying that the deaths were not from the consumption of dog meat. Consequently, Rivers state placed a ban on the selling and drinking of illicit gin in the state. Dr. Onyekwere explained that the ban was to stop further death, while a task force to check offenders with the assistance of security agencies is already in place.

CelebritiesBreast Sucking Good For You? -by Yetunde Arebi by blazincruz(op): 10:07pm On Jun 09, 2015
The female breasts, also known as “the twins” or “the girls”, have remained the most conspicuous and attractive feature of the female sexual organ. Perhaps, its strategic positioning and function adds to its importance in the life of a woman. Besides the age long biological function of the breasts as a source of food and nourishment for babies, the breast is also a major source of sexual attraction for the male specie, just as it is also a key sexual organ for the woman, highly sensitive to stimulation. The fact that they come in various shapes and sizes, further add to their uniqueness and endearing place in our hearts as humans.Breast-Sucking As a sexual organ, the breasts have been known to give immense pleasure to both men and women during sexual encounters.

In fact, some women have reportedly disclosed that they are capable of achieving orgasm even when thoroughly stimulated through sucking and caressing of the breasts alone. Though, because of this highly sensitive nature, some women find it very uncomfortable or even painful to submit their twin girls to constant sexual manipulation of any kind. Interestingly, men are constantly drawn to the breasts. A lot of this attraction has been attributed to psychological composition, perception and beliefs. For, pray, why would a full grown man be obsessed with sucking some mounds of milkless breasts? I don’t often get logical answers to this question when I ask. The function of the breasts in sexual behaviour has been attributed to human Face -to -Face copulation that is unusual among other mammals. Since the breast already serves the function of mother-infant bonding, then it is also excellent for male -female bonding, says an argument.

After all, it is just within reach. For those familiar with some of the social media platforms, you would have come across a particular message that has been making the rounds for a couple of years now. Purportedly attributed to the BBC as source, this message usually springs out during the cancer awareness months and in support of cancer prevention campaign. As expected, it elicits a wide range of controversies from both men and women, from humour to disdain and sexual innuendoes, while some others believe the content hook, line and sinker.

The purported message is claimed to have been issued by the Ministry of Health in the fight against breast cancer. One of the versions I have received read thus: Very soon, women will be paying men to have their breasts sucked! According to a report on BBC website, Doctors recommend that women reduce the risk of getting breast cancer by having their breasts sucked thoroughly and vigorously. It is said that regular sucking of the breast lowers the risk level that tends to build up lumps leading to breast cancer. The breast must be sucked as often as possible. Help women fight breast cancer today. Men, please do your part and suck a breast now! And women, please endeavour to make it available regularly…… This message is from the Ministry of Health in the fight against breast cancer. I have tried several times without success to get a confirmation for this story on the mentioned websites including cancer.org and some others in related fields. But perhaps, someone out there knows the original and authentic source of this message? Please share it with us! As interesting as this message may be, as well as the different responses it receives anytime it is being passed around, depending on which side of the divide you find yourself, I am more worried about the health implications attached. Cancer is not something to make jokes out of as it claims millions of lives across the world every year. Again, some frightened lady who hitherto was not in favour of breast sucking may easily submit herself to torture with the belief that she is suffering for a good reason. Please, let us not confuse issues.

Breast feeding is not the same as breast sucking. Breast feeding is the process of feeding new born and infants with breast milk. It is this that has been medically proven to be of immense benefit to both mother and child and can prevent breast cancer. There are no scientifically proven studies indicating that breast sucking is of any medical benefit to the the woman whose breast is being sucked or the person doing the sucking. However, what has been scientifically proven is the fact that breast sucking when properly performed is of immense pleasure to the woman and may sometime on its own lead to orgasm or when combined with some other forms of sexual stimulation will help a woman to achieve orgasm quicker.
