A lot of reactions have so far trailed the indefinite suspension of the substantive Vice Chancellor of Imo State University Prof.Awuzie by Gov. Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the appointment of Prof. Mrs Obasi (Mr.Governor’s cousin) to replace him. Those who are privy to the emergence of Prof. Awuzie as IMSU VC could still recall how Mr. Governor single-handedly pulled Prof. Awuzie from FUTO and made him the substantive VC of IMSU even when he was not qualified for that position just as such was also against NUC guidelines. One other source of eye sore as regards the then appointment of Prof. Awuzie as IMSU VC is the denial of an erudite Professor ofboth National and International cloth from the department of Philosophy, Prof. I M Onyeocha; that position. Every serious-minded fellow who has been in contact with Prof. Onyeocha was simply overjoyed when he indicated interest because the Reverend gentleman was not only over-qualified but would have brought back the prestige of Imo State University. If Mr. Governor was interested in the good of IMSU and ndi Imo then, he would have made Prof. I M Onyeocha the substantive VC of IMSU. His appointment would have remedied a lot of failures bedeviling the Institution today especially the lack of accreditation in many courses for he commands the respect of the academics in the Country. Be that as it may, our major concern here is the replacement of Prof. Awuzie by Mr. Governor’s cousin. Does it mean that there is no other qualified Professor of repute to man the affairs of IMSU? Granted the woman in question may be qualified, must it be family and relatives all the times? We have always been of the view that Mr.Governor is not a conscientious leader otherwise; he should have change the philosophy of ‘governance being a family business’ given the wide and true criticisms against him in this regard. This idea of choosing mostly family members and relatives in preference to every other Imolite is an insult on the entire State just as it bespeaks ill of Mr. Governor. A man who has future political ambitions should be mindful of his actions because the whole of Nigeria is not Imo State where fake security agents and every amount of impudence can be used to install ones self in office. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has been in a mourning mood following the death of some students who lost their lives in a horror road smash. The students as gathered were traveling home after the University authorities ordered them out of hostels. It would be recalls that the University was suddenly shut down on Monday, a move believed to have been aimed at averting a planned riot by the students who had suffered acute water scarcity for over three weeks. The gory incident occurred at the Nsukka-9th Mile Express way. Although the Enugu State Police Command put the death figure at three, eyewitness account said the number is higher. In a statement by the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, he said “three persons have been confirmed dead while five others sustained various degrees of injuries”. He added that “the auto crash, involves a diesel truck with registration number AWK 311 XB, which is believed to have lost control as a result of suspected brake failure and had hit two buses with registration numbers UWN 406 XA and UWN 57 XA and also a motorcycle. “The injured are being attended to at our Saviour Hospital, 9th Mile corner Ngwo, while the dead bodies are also deposited at the same hospital mortuary”. A student, who was traveling when the accident occurred blamed the University authority for the development. “It was very sad to see our fellow students die like that; we were chased out of school and now they have also been forced out of the world. This would not have occurred if we were not ordered out of school”, he lamented. cc:fynestboi source:http://campushint.com/2015/06/unn-students-involved-in-ghastly-accident/

Governor Okorocha restated the determination of his administration to eradicate poverty through massive industrialization that will create job opportunities for the teaming youths. “This period will experience industry, industry, industry, factory, factory, factory; job, job, job; employment, employment, employment. “This government will embark on wealth creation for our people”. He used the opportunity to enumerate some of his achievement in the last four years such as 27 general hospital, free education programme from primary to tertiary level, 305 model schools, introduction of Community Government Council [CGC], adding that this is a period for the development of the natural resources in the land. I shall not fail. The battle is over as I speak to you with the spirit of forgiveness, generosity, love, remembering what the Lord has done for us”. He commended the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere for his support, loyalty and urged him not to relent in his effort towards the development of the state. Governor Okorocha who described Eze Madumere as his political son, expressed his willingness to partner with him in moving the state forward, “Eze Madumere is my political son.
