PoliticsRe: Edo Election: I Won't Challenge Obaseki’s Victory, Says Ize-Iyamu by BleedingPen(op): 8:48am On Oct 05, 2020
Press Statement by Pastor Dr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu

My dear people of Edo State. I send you warm felicitations as always.

You will all recall that the election process to determine who occupies the office of Governor of Edo State for the next 4 years began officially in June this year, with the unveiling of the Election Timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

To the glory of God Almighty, the election held on 19th September, 2020 with the outcome later announced by INEC. We thank God Almighty for the relatively peaceful nature of the voting process in most parts of the state.

Contrary to orchestrated media reports, the election was neither free nor fair. There were several episodes of violence, voter intimidation and falsification of results. In particular, there were unlawful cancellations of results particularly from Urhonigbe South and North in Orhiomwon, while results were falsified from many polling units in Ofunama in Ovia South West, and in parts of Ovia North East, Owan West, Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, Esan North East, Esan West, Esan South East, and Uhunmwode Local Government Areas.

Sadly, two persons were killed during the election, while gun-wielding thugs took over collation centres in many locations without the intervention of law-enforcement agents. There were also several cases of malfunctioning card readers, which disenfranchised duly registered voters, in addition to many cases of unregistered voters voting with pre-purchased voters' cards not collected by their actual owners.

These malpractices could easily form the basis to challenge the election results. We have however decided not to commence an election petition. This is to avoid further tension in the state. We are also mindful that the leadership of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and many well-placed individuals have made pronouncements endorsing the process, which we have chosen to respect.

Nonetheless, we must emphasize that elections are far more than actual voting, just as democracy includes more than just elections. It is in this light that we draw attention to the fact that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its flagbearers have continued to pursue several pre-election suits in various courts against us, all totalling 13. One of such cases came up in the High Court, Benin on 2nd October, 2020, days after the election.

On our part, we had filed two pre-election cases against the PDP and its flagbearer challenging their eligibility to contest the election. These are all lawful and integral parts of the electoral process in any democracy, which we must all respect and acknowledge as genuine democrats.

The outcome of these pending cases have direct effect on the election. Consequently, we have decided to continue with our pre-election cases in full exercise of our legal rights, just as our opponents have considered it their prerogative to also continue with their pre-election cases against us.

Let me once again wholeheartedly thank the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Mohammadu Buhari GCFR, for his statesmanship and support throughout the election campaign. We thank the National leadership of our party led by HE Mai Mala Buni, Governor of Yobe state, our National Campaign Council led by HE Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Governor of Kano State, APC Governors, leaders and members of the National Assembly and other leaders of our party at both national and state levels for their immense contributions.

We also sincerely thank His Royal Majesty, Omo N' Oba N' Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, the Otaru of Auchi, Alhaji Aliru Momoh, Ikelebe III, and all our other Royal Fathers, for their unceasing prayers for the peace of the state before, during and after the elections.

We thank our religious leaders for their prayers and intercessions throughout the campaign and even thereafter.

We commend the good people of Edo State for their peaceful conduct despite the hostile and provocative actions of state officials, which have remained unabated. We urge everyone to remain law-abiding, as responsible citizens.

We specially thank our innumerable supporters for their steadfast support and tremendous show of love, and likewise urge them to remain calm while keeping faith alive for a better Edo State which we shall all be proud of.

Let me conclude by noting that our cause to uplift our state using the democratic system is a noble mission from which we SHALL NEVER waiver. As law-abiding citizens, we must all continue to believe in the electoral process as an important part of the democratic system, as it remains the best method of choosing who leads the people, devoid of violence and avoidable acrimony.

Long live Edo State.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Pastor Dr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu
PoliticsEdo Election: I Won't Challenge Obaseki’s Victory, Says Ize-Iyamu by BleedingPen(op): 8:09am On Oct 05, 2020
Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recently conducted September 19 Edo Governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, says he will not be challenging the victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki in court.

Ize-Iyamu stated this in a personally signed statement forwarded to Igbere TV on Monday. He, however, said he would pursue pending pre-election cases against Obaseki, saying the governor has refused to discontinue similar cases against himself(Ize-Iyamu) and his deputy, Gani Audu.

Foremost lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Wole Olanipekun, is leading four other SANs in cases of certificate forgery and perjury instituted against Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, at a Federal High Court in Benin City. The APC and a member of the party, Mr. Edobor Williams, instituted the cases.

The plaintiffs are asking the court to disqualify the governor and his deputy from participating in the September 19 governorship election in the state as well as prevent their party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), from fielding any candidates in the election.

In two separate suits sighted by Igbere TV, the plaintiffs accused the duo of Obaseki and Shaibu of lying on oath and submitting false documents to INEC to aid their qualifications in the election. According to them, the alleged offences of the defendants run contrary to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010, as amended, and the punishment is automatic disqualification.

The plaintiffs are also asking the court to bar the PDP from participating or representing itself in the September 19 governorship election for sponsoring ineligible candidates.

The plaintiffs also want the court to declare that Obaseki’s claim that he worked with Afrinvest Limited from 1994 to 2014, when he retired, was false.

Aside the alleged falsification of documents and lying on oath, the plaintiffs want the PDP standard bearers disqualified on the grounds that the waiver granted them by the PDP last month contravened section 177 of the 1999 Constitution.

In the other suit marked FHC/B/CS/75/2020, which has Shaibu, PDP and INEC as first, second and third respondents, respectively, the plaintiffs, apart from accusing Shaibu of also parading false academic documents, want him disqualified for presenting forged tax clearance certificate to INEC in 2006 in aid of his qualification for the 2007 House of Assembly election in Edo State in 2007.

On Shaibu’s academic record, the plaintiffs claimed discrepancies and alleged forgery in his WAEC result, adding that Shaibu’s claim that he obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Benin in 2012 was false.

The Federal High Court sitting in Benin City, the Edo State capital, on Monday, August 17, 2020, granted the application of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to serve court processes on Governor Obaseki, and his deputy, Shaibu through the office of the Attorney General of the state.

The Federal High Court 1, Benin City, presided over by Justice M.G. Umar in Suit No. FHC/B/CS/74/202: All Progressive Congress & Anor v. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki and Ors, and Suit No. FHC/B/CS/75/2020: All Progressives Congress & Anor. v. Phillip Shaibu & Ors, after hearing Counsel for the APC, Victor Ohiosuma Esq., leading P.E. Uwadiae Esq., ordered substituted service of the Originating Processes in the matter, on the governor and his deputy.

This was sequel to the facts deposed to in affidavits in support of the application filed seeking for an Order of Substituted Service, the evasiveness of both Obaseki and Shaibu to receive the Originating Processes in respect of the said matters that question the academic qualifications of both the governor and his deputy in standing in as candidates of the PDP in the election.

Igbere TV reports that Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party had defeated Ize-Iyamu in a keenly contested election which was deemed free and fair by many observers including President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress - both have equally congratulated the governor.

But in the statement forwarded to Igbere TV on Monday, Pastor Ize-Iyamu insisted that the election was marred by violence, irregularities while alleging cancelling of votes in areas he had won and massive falsification of results.

The APC candidate however said as a democrat, he won't be going to the Edo Election Petitions Tribunal out of respect for President Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress national body (who had earlier congratulated Obaseki) and to avoid tension in the state but would continue with the pending pre-election cases in court.

Politics'Proscribe SARS Now', Apostle Johnson Suleman Tells Buhari by BleedingPen(op):
The General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman has called on the Nigerian government to scrap police force's Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit across the country.

Apostle Suleman made the call over the weekend while adding his voice in condemning the recurring brutality of the unit, following a viral video of the shooting of a young man in Ughelli, Delta by men of the SARS.

The video, currently making the rounds on social media, showed moments men suspected to be SARS operatives killed the victim and made away with his Lexus car.

Reacting in a series of tweets sighted by Igbere TV on his Twitter handle, Saturday night, Apostle Suleman said the SARS unit should be scrapped as they are a ‘disgrace’ to the police force.

“SARS should be proscribed..they are a disgrace to the police force..they are worst than the 'criminals' they claim to be against..their trigger-happy nature have rendered mothers childless, sent youths on premature extinction.wasted destinies.they will reap what they sow,” he said.

The controversial clergyman also took a swipe at the governments, saying the old have failed in leadership as they are responsible for the deaths of the young.

“The old have failed in leadership..now the youths are been killed by SARS and their salaries are paid by these same failed old leaders..so indirectly, the old are killing the young,” Apostle Suleman added.

Igbere TV gathered that Mr. Akpan from Akwa Ibom, lives in Sadiku street by Trinity bus stop, Berger Suya, Olodi Apapa, Lagos, where he carried out the illicit act for years.

Akpan was arrested on Saturday morning following the intervention of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), the Women of Inestimable Values.

The victim (names withheld) was rescued by the NGO while at the verge of committing suicide, after several plea for leniency from her stepfather fell on deaf ears.

Narrating the horror experience under her stepfather's roof to Igbere TV, the victim said Mr. Akpan started abusing her while she was little.

She said her mother lived separately with them, as she was only made to stay with the stepfather, his brother and her own sister.

She told our correspondent that the stepfather threatens her life if she tells anyone whenever she threatens to report the case.

But Akpan's luck finally ran out as he was caught pants down penultimate week by the victim's younger sister, although he denied it.

The victim revealed to Igbere TV how the stepfather got her pregnant. She said she did abortion thrice following the discovery.

She also said whenever she refused to allow the man sleep with her, he beats her, denies her meal and even tied her up and rape her at will.

According to her, on so many occasion she begged the stepfather to stop raping her, but he said she does not have the right to tell him to stop, that he will only stop when he wants to.

"He started sleeping with me when I was small and even got me pregnant and took me to abort the pregnancy", she said.

"I didn't talk then because I thought he would stop as I grew older but he did not," the 21-year-old victim narrated. She said she just finished secondary school.

She added that the stepfather takes advantage of her whenever she requests for something from him or catches her doing anything "wrong".

Reacting however, Mr Akpan who did not deny sleeping with her stepdaughter said he did it only twice, but the victim insisted he did it severally.

"I mistakenly made love to her", he said acting remorseful, "but I have promised myself not to do it anymore."

"I slept with her twice. I started doing it while she was about 12, but she is currently 20," Mr Akpan added.

He, however, denied maltreating his stepdaughter He said he gave the victim whatever she demands for at anytime.

Mr. Akpan pleaded to be spared, while blaming the devil for the acts, saying he would not go back to it if given a second chance.

Asked if the victim's mother is aware of his sexual escapades, Mr. Akpan simply said "yes".
Igbere TV gathered that the victim's mother begged the daughter not to tell anybody, 'in order not to bring shame to the family.'

Although Igbere TV could not immediately speak with the victim's mother, a statement credited to her said she refused to speak up or report the issue.

"The man beats me when I complain, and will always not give us food, or ask me to leave the house, when I try to stop him reason I could not report or tell anybody", she was quoted as saying.

A representative of the NGO, Ms. Lilian, who spoke to Igbere TV, said the victim was rescued two weeks ago while the stepfather kept evading arrest until he was finally arrested on Saturday.

The case is currently at a Saduke police division, close to where the victim lives. A police source said Mr. Akpan would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

"As an organisation, we will continue to act, to ensure all victims of rape obtain justice", Ms. Lilian of the Women of Inestimable Values Foundation, said.

“It Makes No Sense For Oil To Be Cheaper In Nigeria Than Saudi Arabia” - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said it makes no sense for petrol to be cheaper in Nigeria than in Saudi Arabia.

The president stated this in his Independence Day broadcast on national television, to commemorate Nigeria at 60.

In the address monitored by Igbere TV, Buhari insisted that his administration is doing the best with scarce resources.

His words: “Petroleum prices in Nigeria are to be adjusted. We sell now at N161 per litre.”

“A comparison with our neighbours will illustrate the point;

A. Chad which is an oil producing country charges N362 per litre

B. Niger, also an oil producing country sells 1 litre at N346.

C. Ghana, another oil producing country, petroleum pump price is N326 per litre.

“Further afield, Egypt charges N211 per litre. Saudi Arabia charges N168 per litre. It makes no sense for oil to be cheaper in Nigeria than in Saudi Arabia.”

Igbere TV reports that President Buhari is expected at the Eagle Square, Abuja today for the ceremonial Independence day parade.

PoliticsNigeria @60: Prof Ibe Urges Leaders To Deliver Democracy Dividends by BleedingPen(op): 8:40pm On Sep 30, 2020
The Chancellor of Gregory University, Uturu in Abia State, Prof. Gregory Ibe, has charged leaders at all levels of governance in Nigeria to prioritize the patriotic act of delivering impactful dividends of democracy to the people.

Prof. Ibe gave the charge in his Independence day message to Nigerians, a copy of which was made available to Igbere TV on Wednesday, as the nation marks 60th anniversary on Thursday, October 1, 2020.

According to the statement signed by Sleek Ogbonnaya Ogwo, Director of Media and Public Relations of the institution, Ibe spoke while interacting with journalists recently in his country home at Amaokwe Achara, Uturu.

The university don, who doubles as chairman of Committee of Proprietors of Private Universities in Nigeria, contended that provision of critical social infrastructure by leadership in all spheres of governance in Nigeria will stem the alarming rate of restiveness and agitations in the country.

According to Prof Ibe, "as we commemorate the 60th anniversary of the birth of our nation, I want to wish Nigeria our motherland a prosperous diamond independence anniversary. Let me however use the opportunity of the anniversary to charge our political leaders to recommit themselves to the task of addressing the huge infrastructural deficiency currently plaguing the nation as a means of reducing the escalating degree of restiveness."

Stressing that the level of infrastructural deployment directly impacts on the quality of life provided to the citizenry, the academic encouraged leaders to justify the number of years chronologically credited to Nigeria with equal amount of social amenities to assuage frail nerves.

In his words, "benefitting from many years of consultancy to multinational agencies and personal interactions with leaders across the globe, I know that a development minded leadership automatically secures the peoples buy-in. Nigerian leaders should therefore work to secure public acceptance and willing participation in the act of governance through the delivery of impactful dividends of democracy."

He asserted that, given the enormous potentials of Nigeria, especially in the Human Resource sector and against the backdrop of the current deployment of technology and virtual platforms for knowledge transfer, the nation at sixty definitely has immense potentials going forward.

To prosecute parents/guardians of defaulters

Following the cancellation of the ceremonial Independence day parade by the Lagos state government, the police in Lagos has warned against any rally or protest in the state, Igbere TV reports.

This comes as some group of Nigerians under the #RevolutionNow movement led by Omoyele Sowore of Sahara Reporters, plan protesting against the Buhari administration nationwide including in Lagos on Thursday.

Igbere TV had reported how the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led Lagos state government, on Wednesday, announced the cancellation of the planned parade and other activities that involves the gathering of more than 50 people over COVID-19.

The Lagos police in a statement by its spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu, has instructed officers and men of the command to “disallow any unlawful societies, under whatever disguise, from staging rallies or protests within the state on Thursday, 1st October, 2020.”

“The Police boss read the riot act today during a security meeting with the Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Department at the conference room, State Headquarters, GRA, Ikeja in Wednesday,” he added.

“While the Commissioner of Police announced the cancellation, by the Lagos State Government, of the ceremonial parade to commemorate the Nigeria's 60th Independence Anniversary, he warned that the command will not allow any gatherings, rallies or protests against the sovereignty of Nigeria in the state.

“CP Hakeem Odumosu similarly warned parents and guardians to warn their children and wards to desist from any rallies, protests or be mobilized to wage war against the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, or else they (parents or guardians) of any youths arrested for such act will be prosecuted.”

The Police Commissioner, however, appealed to the general public to be law-abiding, desist from violence and any act that is capable of disrupting the sovereignty of Nigeria.
