PoliticsBREAKING: Gov Umahi Meets Orji Kalu; Hosts The Senator To Dinner (Photos) by BleedingPen(op):
Former Governor of Abia State and Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is currently meeting with Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State.

Igbere TV reports that the Ebonyi governor, who recently decamped to the ruling All progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is hosting Sen. Orji Kalu.

Kalu, who is leader of the South East APC and highest elected political office holder from the zone, where Ebonyi falls under, is currently being hosted to a private dinner by Umahi in Abuja.

The meeting dispels media reports that the governor's recent defection to the APC from the PDP may have created discord between him and Sen. Orji Kalu.

Igbere TV recalls that barely two days after Umahi formally joined the APC, there were media reports that Umahi's defection to the APC may have led to disquiet amongst Southeast party stakeholders.

The reports were also heightened following the absence of some notable political figures of the party from the Southeast at his formal defection which held on Thursday, Nov. 19.

However, Senator Kalu in a chat with journalists on Saturday, dispelled the speculation of a possible faceoff between him and the governor following his absence from Umahi’s official defection from the PDP to the APC held in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

Kalu revealed that the national leadership of the APC contacted him being a leader of the party in the geopolitical zone and that he explained he could not attend the event due to a national assignment he handled.

The Abia North senator said the President of the Senate had asked him to preside over a committee on the 2021 budget, while declaring that the Nigerian budget is more important than the official declaration ceremony.

PoliticsGbajabiamila: DSS Official Shot Newspaper Vendor Dead, Not Police - Official by BleedingPen(op): 8:47pm On Nov 21, 2020
The Department of State Security (DSS) says the security agent who shot dead a newspaper vendor in Abuja, is one of their operatives, and not a police officer as being speculated.

This is coming barely 24 hours after the police denied the officer, who was attached to the convoy of the Speaker of House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Igbere TV had on Thursday reported the fatal shooting of a newspaper vendor, Mr. Ifeanyi Okereke, a situation which gave rise to protest by his colleagues the following day, in Abuja.

The incident occurred at the Three Arms Zone when the convoy of the speaker made a stop-over (on his way from work) to exchange pleasantries with the vendors in his usual style.

In his response, while condoling with family of the deceased, Gbajabiamila said the aide had been suspended and handed over to DSS for investigation, pledging support for the family.

In a statement forwarded to Igbere TV Friday night, spokesman for the DSS, Peter Afunanya, said the culprit is one of its personnel deployed to the Speaker as a security detail.

The spokesman said as already stated by Gbajabiamila, the officer, Abdullahi M. Hassan, has been suspended.

Afunanya confirmed that as part of disciplinary procedures, he has been taken into detention.

He added that DSS has opened a detailed investigation into the matter and assured of a transparent and accountable probe.

“The Service condoles with the family of the deceased and his loved ones. It has promised a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident and will surely keep to this”, the statement added.

PoliticsEdo: Transport Company Pay N9m To Secure Release Of Abducted Passengers, LG Boss by BleedingPen(op): 11:14am On Nov 21, 2020
All the kidnap victims on-board a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to a popular transport company in Edo State, have been released.

Similarly, chairman of the Esan Central Local Government Council in Edo state, Professor Waziri Edokpa, has been released.

Also not left out is Miss Oghogho Christiana, the 400level medical student of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, who N7m ransom was earlier demanded for her release.

Igbere TV recalls that all the victims were kidnapped along the Benin - Ekpoma Expressway, which has, in recent time, become a 'safe haven' for kidnappers.

Although the kidnapping occurred separate hours, early Friday, it was gathered that the same set of armed bandits took them away into the thick bush.

Details of their release are still sketchy, Igbere TV, however, gathered that the transport company paid a whopping sum of N9 million ransom to secure the release of all victims.

The Abuja-bound passengers, said to be 14 in numbers, were taken earlier before the council boss and AAU student were abducted separately by same sect.

The N9 million ransom was said to have, however, covered the entire kidnap victims who were released Friday night with the driver of the bus shot dead earlier.

A staff of the transport company privy to the arrangement, who craved anonymity due to sensitivity of the matter, confirmed the development.

The staff said, "we had to make all necessary arrangements because they (the kidnappers) said we have until Friday night to do the needful."

The source was however silent on the method of delivery of the cash, or how much was first demanded. Another official confirmed the killing of the bus driver.

The public relations officer of the Edo state police command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, could not be immediately reached for comment.

However, a relative of the kidnapped AAU student confirmed the victim had been released. "We so much thank God and remain grateful to [name withheld] - the transport company", the relative said.

Students Union officials and course mates of the student have since taken to social media to celebrate the release of Miss Christiana.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has re-emphasized the existing 10pm to 6am curfew in the state to checkmate the rising level of insecurity in Edo.

This was as the governor urged security agencies in the state to check the activities of hoodlums and criminals following the hijack of the #EndSARS protests in the state.

Obaseki spoke on Friday when he received the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Anthony Bamidele Omozoje, at the Government House, in Benin City.

Igbere TV reports that the visit was to inform the governor on plans by the military to embark on a seven-day heightened security operation to fish out criminal elements in the state.

PoliticsNo Plans To Drop Abia Airport Project, Says Ikpeazu by BleedingPen(op): 8:40am On Nov 19, 2020
The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has assured that the Abia State Airport project will not be completely cancelled or abandoned.

The Governor gave the assurance in a terse statement made available to Igbere TV, over the week, in Umuahia, personally endorsed by him.

He said his administration would rather focus on completing other ongoing projects in the state before embarking on the Airport project.

According to him, his government will return to the project mid 2021, describing the act as placing priority in the face of "scarce resources."

"The true position of our Airport project is that we focus on the completion of ongoing projects as earlier outlined & then return to the airport project mid 2021; not cancellation", he said.

"Let's appreciate the place of prioritization of unlimited needs in the face of scarce resources", Governor Ikpeazu tweeted.

The Governor's clarification put to rest media speculations that Ikpeazu will completely drop the airport project following a request by traditional rulers to the governor to focus on other infrastructures.

Meanwhile, the Abia State Governor has hinted that he is not leaving his party; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is coming on the heels of rumours and media speculations that the governor may soon be on his way to the ruling party with his Ebonyi State counterpart, Engr. David Umahi.

CultureNo Plans To Drop Abia Airport Project, Says Ikpeazu by BleedingPen(op):
The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has assured that the Abia State Airport project will not be completely cancelled or abandoned.

The Governor gave the assurance in a recent tweet sighted by Igbere TV on his official Twitter handle, @GovernorIkpeazu.
