An unemployed Nigerian man has allegedly lavished a whopping sum of N2.7 million meant for business on his girlfriend, Igbere TV reports.

This is even as the girlfriend 'forcefully' assumed ownership of a brand new iPhone 11 Pro Max meant for the man's sustenance.

Taking to social media in a post sighted by Igbere TV, a friend of the unemployed man, Edward Onoriode, said his friend lost his job to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to him, this prompted his friend's brother to send 10 brand new iPhone 11 Pro Max from the United Kingdom to his friend for him to sell and use the money to start up a business.

Edward, who said he took delivery of the items, once the shipment arrived, claimed his friend ended up spending the N2.7million the phones were sold at, on his girlfriend who has since dumped him.

He wrote;

"A friend lost his job due to covid-19 pandemic. His elder brother that's based in the UK sent him 10 iphone 11 Pro Max so he can sell & use the proceed to start a business to take care of himself.

"When the shipments landed, the lady handling the shipment was acting funny.

"He called me to assist him get the package, I did & within few days, I collected the package.

"The very day I handed over the package to him at his house, I met his girlfriend with him. As we opened the package together, she collected 1 Gold iPhone 11 Pro Max Immediately.

"I know the cost of the phone, the purpose of the phone & financial condition of my friend so, I told her to return the phone bcoz it has a purpose.

"I also told her that when things fall in place for my phone, she will use a much better phone than iPhone 11 Pro Max.

"She hesitated and insisted she must use an iPhone 11 Pro Max.

"Funny thing is, this girl is using a Samsung S9 while my friend is using an Infinix Phone.

"The person that owns the phones isn't carried away to use an iPhone but you the girlfriend is insisting on using one.

"My friend was carried away by love so, he couldn't say a word. I was the one fighting the battle as if I'm the owner of the phones.

"There was no name this girl didn't call me in the presence of my friend. My friend did nothing but just look.

"I gave up and she took the phone.

"I and my friend went to computer village to meet the man which we've told about the phones before it arrival. He inspected all phones and made payment as agreed immediately.

"Over N2.7m for the nine iPhones sold was paid to my friend account.

"I don't know if my friend was jazzed, stupid or carried away when the money hits his account. All I know is that he didn't invest any of the money into any business.

"Weekly, he upload pics and video of him and his girlfriend at expensive restaurants, clubs and fast food.

"Each time I caution him, he will tell me not to worry that he's working on something. He claimed he had kept N2m for the business he want to invest in.

"This is a guy that's owning me 150k which I loaned him during the pandemic.

"I forced him to pay me ASAP before story enter.

"After he paid me my money, he stopped taking my calls and I also stopped calling.

"After over three months, he called me yesterday crying that his girlfriend had ruined his life.

"He said all the money had gone. The business he wanted to invest in which was suggested by his gf was a scam and the girlfriend had run away.

"He's begging I should assist him with my connection get Police officers to trace his girlfriend and the guy that scammed him get his money back.

"I hissed and cut the call.

"I hate stupid people.

"This is common by most young guys, they allow little money and their girlfriend to control them.

"As a man, always make sure you're not carried away with girls or money. If you're in love, love with your head and stop being STUPID.

"Let me add this; I didn't get to listen to him fully when he called yesterday bcoz I was pissed & irritated. I don't know the details of the business he's talking abt if his GF was involved with the guy that scammed him

"When I'm calm, I'd visit him, get full details & assist him."

The Enugu State government has commenced immediate mass vaccination for Yellow Fever in Ette and Umuopu communities in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of the state.

Igbere TV reports that this is following the confirmation of the outbreak of the disease in the aforementioned areas.

The state government has also commenced the immediate fumigation of the affected communities against the mosquito vector with the appropriate chemicals.

This is even as government, in a statement forwarded to Igbere TV, announced the “activation of the Enugu State Ministry of Health Emergency Operations Centre for Yellow Fever”.

Signed by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi, the state government disclosed that it has begun Active Case Surveillance to obtain necessary information on the epidemic for further decision making.

A medical team from the State Ministry of Health, led by the Health Commissioner, Dr. Obi and Officers of the Enugu State Fire Service, also led by the Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Okwudiri Ohaa, were in the affected communities, on Wednesday, to commence vaccination and fumigation exercises, respectively.

Dr. Obi added that the government has prepositioned General Hospital Ogrute Enugu-Ezike, commenced treatment with Ambulance Service for emergency and “constitution of the Enugu State Multi-Sectorial Technical Working Group for the Yellow Fever Epidemic”.

The Health Commissioner pointed out that the state government has embarked on risk communication in the affected communities, and has formally notified “the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and the National Arbovirus and Vectors Research Centre for a sustained response since Yellow Fever has also been reported in other states in Nigeria”.

Disclosing that the measures were in compliance with the directives of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and in line with laid down guidelines to combat such epidemic, Dr. Obi said: “We thank the Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, Presidents General of Town Unions, other stakeholders and the good people of Enugu State who have in so many ways contributed to this expedited response to the epidemic in Enugu State”.

He therefore advised the public that: “If you have been recently vaccinated against Yellow Fever, you do not need to be vaccinated again. Yellow Fever is transmitted through mosquito bites, thus remove its breeding sites around you. If you are not feeling well, please visit a nearby hospital.”

By Ogochukwu Isioma, Abuja

The Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation (OOF), on Monday, paid a visit to the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Mohammed Musa Bello, where a plaque of appreciation was presented to him.

Igbere TV reports that the OOF visiting delegation led by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Olalekan Makinde, were in the minster's office, in Abuja, on a 'thank you' visit.

Our FCTA correspondent, who covered the visit, reports that the OOF leadership is currently in Abuja in continuation of its nationwide distribution of academic materials to schools.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Makinde said the OOF team deemed it fit to pay a visit to the FCT minister whom he said has been very supportive to the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation.

Makinde said: “We are here as a show of respect and appreciation to the honourable minister, and also to establish a proper relationship with the FCT.

“As a Foundation, we plan to carry out a lot of project across the country and the FCT is very important to us,” adding that the Foundation was looking at areas in the capital city that needed support or intervention.

Makinde said the Obasanjo Foundation was already looking at core major areas of focus, which he listed to include Education, Health, Agriculture and Youth Empowerment.

He mentioned that, on Education, the Foundation have begun massive distribution of academic materials to public primary and secondary schools across the FCT.

Responding, the FCT minister, while eulogising Obasanjo, lauded OOF for the laudable gestures, with a promise that his Office will continue to support the Foundation at all time.

Bello pledged to do everything possible, and within his power, to make the academic materials distribution exercise a success in FCT, including granting OOF access to schools.

Speaking further, the minister pledged to support the OOF whenever it intends to intervene in other sector of interest including Health, Agriculture and the area of Youth Empowerment.

He said: “I want to thank the Foundation and by extension, our leader and elder statesman (Olusegun Obasanjo), the founder of this Foundation for this laudable project.

“On behalf of the FCT Administration, we thank you for coming, and not just coming, but also coming with support and donating to our schools,” Mr. Bello added.

Receiving the Obasanjo Foundation visiting team with the minister, were the Permanent Secretary, Chief of Staff, Secretary on Education, and the Director of Academic Planning.

Highpoint of the meeting was the presentation of a plaque and some writing materials to the minister, as a show of appreciation for his support towards the OOF.

Earlier, the Obasanjo Foundation distributed academic materials including exercise books and textbooks to some public primary and secondary schools in the federal capital territory.

In line with its core mandate in the education sector, the OOF, in October, distributed textbooks as well as exercise books to primary school pupils in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Just recently, the Foundation in partnership with the China Consulate announced the donation of over 1,000,000 academic materials to students of public primary and secondary school across the six geo-political zones, which is still on course.

Igbere TV gathered that, while in Abuja, the Obasanjo Foundation will be visiting more public schools to donate academic materials, with a visit to Kano and Bauchi states this week.

The OOF leadership were in Oyo, Imo and Bayelsa States were thousands of textbooks and writing materials where academic materials were distributed to students of public primary and secondary school.

Based on its activities across the country, the OOF, founded by Obasanjo recently emerged as 'Humanitarian Foundation of the Year' in the 2020 Igbere TV Leadership Excellence Awards taking place at Sheraton Hotels, Abuja, December 10.

PoliticsCrisis Looms in Senate Over Committee Chairmen's Incompetence - IGBERE TV by BleedingPen(op): 2:01pm On Nov 10, 2020
The relative peace being enjoyed in the 9th Senate under the leadership of Ahmed Lawan may soon be short lived as trouble appears to be brewing in the Senate; over the leadership style of some standing committee Chairmen of the Red Chambers as members have expressed their complaints over what they described as the high handedness of the Chairmen in running the commitee affairs.

According to members,  some of the committee Chairmen were living like "Lords" and have left a vast majority of them disenfranchised.

Competent knowledgeable sources said the Chairmen of the said committees have debarred majority of the members of the committees from carrying out their duties by refusing to carry them along with the committee's activities.

They also vowed to commence impeachment proceedings against the said committee Chairmen if the Senate President does not replace the Chairmen to avert the huge looming crisis, which according to them will mark the beginning of crisis in the 9th Senate.

The alleged commitees are: Army led by Senator Ali Ndume (Borno South), Customs, Excise and Tariff led by Senator Francis Alimikhena (Edo North), Banking and Finance led by Senator Uba Sani (Kaduna Central), Police Affairs led by Senator Haliru Jika (Bauchi Central), Upstream petroleum led by Senator Albert Bassey Akpan (Akwa Ibom North-East), and Marine led by Senator Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central).

Expressing their grievances they accused the chairmen of solely running the affairs of the committee, turning deaf ears to the series of complaints laid by members and refusal to reach out to them.

They warned that the Senate risks a huge crisis explosion if the nothing is done address ugly trend.

One of the sources said: “it's unfortunate that these Chairmen are living like "Lords" since their inauguration, they rarely call for meetings most of us don't even know what is going on in the commitees. Now that budget defense is on-going no meeting has been called for us as members to sit and discuss on areas to focus, so how are we expected to scrutinize these Federal agencies when they appear for budget defense? Things can't continue this way if the Senate does not intervene we shall be left with no other option than to impeach the Chairmen.”

Although some of the members revealed that they have made efforts to reach out to the Chairmen but they have made themselves unreachable and in most cases refused to heed to their appeals.

"Yes we are loyal to the Senate President but we can't continue to suffer in silence and allow our constitutional roles to be undermined. The Chairmen seem to have forgotten that they can be removed maybe that it is why we are being underrated. Our nation is faced with so many challenges and these commitees is an opportunity to address those challenges. We need Chairmen who are team players,” said the source.

Another competent source in the National Assembly confirmed plans by members of the commitee to impeach the Chairmen if the Senate President decline to reshuffle the Chairmen.
