An influential Labour Party stalwart in Enugu State, Barr Emeka Abah, weekend, said efforts were ongoing to merge the LP structure in Enugu North senatorial zone of the state with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. Abah, an Abuja-based lawyer, stated this weekend at Obollo-Afor, headquarters of Udenu LGA, when he led some LP ward chairmen and other stakeholders, as well as staunch members of the Peoples Democratic Party to formally join APC. He assured of the replication of the success story of the Labour Party in Enugu North zone during the 2023 general elections where the party defeated a sitting governor in the senatorial election, and won most of the House of Representatives and state Assembly seats. In his words, “We have work to do, which is to unseat the sitting governor. We must plan ahead and synergise. We should not look at money, but at the end of the tunnel. We shall amalgamate LP structures of Nsukka cultural zone with APC, and advance to the Enugu West zone and achieve the same thing. We won most of the seats during the last election, but our candidates were not proper ones. That is why they are decamping.” The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, who was present at the decamping, called on Enugu people to join the national party, saying President Bola Tinubu is doing a lot in Southeast, and deserves support. He decried what he called over-taxation in Enugu State. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaSBjyvyyRw |

In a massive push for youth employment and engagement, Governor Ademola Adeleke has inaugurated and inducted 10, 000 youth into the Imole Youth Corps. At a grand ceremony held at the Freedom Park, Osogbo, the State Governor said the occasion is “a major highlight of his administration’s push to address youth joblessness alongside other indirect steps to engage the youth across the sectors” Addressing the members of the Imole youth corps clad in their uniforms, the Governor described the programme as “a transitional arrangement designed to provide opportunities for our youth” from all walks of life. “Today’s gathering is a continuation of our efforts to provide job opportunities for our teaming youth. Ten thousand youths spread across the 332 political wards are engaged to provide services in the area of health, security, environment and education”, the Governor noted, assuring that “the newly enrolled Imole Youth Corps members are to be trained to deliver support services across the grassroots economy and other sectors” He charged the corps members to demonstrate strong commitment in whatever sector they are assigned, tasking them “to justify the confidence reposed in you by working diligently in your posted areas”. The Governor spoke further on the efforts of his government to tackle the unemployment crisis: “Our administration is focused on tackling the unemployment crisis. We note the widespread joblessness among the youth. “Our first decision is to create an enabling environment for job creation by both the government and the private sector. Part of actions taken so far by the administration is to provide financial support to small businesses through cooperative movement, statewide infrastructure upgrade and the recent launching of the agropreneur programme. “Through small business financing, this administration has provided lifeline and operational loans to thousands of grassroots entrepreneurs. Over Four Billion Naira has so far been committed to this revolving loan scheme. “Our government is also enforcing local content in the implementation of the state’s infrastructure projects. We engage local contractors who in turn employ local technicians, thereby imparting new skills. Additionally, local suppliers are patronized. We ensure Osun money revolves within Osun state. “I am happy to announce that through our local content policy, financial access to businesses, and ongoing youth agropreneur programme, over 250,000 of our population were provided job opportunities. The figures are set to increase as we launch the agropreneur project in each of the 30 local government and Area Council, the Governor explained. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OKtQunak20 |

“Let me tell you something about my elder brother, el-Rufai, and whether we should be worried. “There is a dynamic around el-Rufai. El-Rufai needed a solid, revolutionary person to thrive. On his own, el-Rufai may not win the senate. “He won governorship because of the Buhari factor and got re-elected because of the Buhari factor. If you leave him now to go and run for senate in Kaduna, he would not win,” he said. “He does not have the capacity to make the president unsettled. No opposition party, even if combined, can make the president unsettled. The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has said Nasir El-Rufai, former Kaduna State Governor, doesn't have the political influence to unsettle President Bola Tinubu. Bwala and El-Rufai have been having a go at each other over the latter's criticisms of the incumbent administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYtHi4-dXvM |

However, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, one of the contenders for the position of National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has dismissed the directive from the Board of Trustees (BoT) for the National Working Committee (NWC) to swear in his rival, Sunday Ude-Okoye. Anyanwu criticized the directive, citing the ongoing court case and the expiration of the tenures of about 80% of the BoT members who attended the meeting at Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. He also pointed out that he was not invited to the meeting, nor was the National Chairman, who is also a member of the BoT. Anyanwu stated, “I’m a member of the BoT, I was not invited to the meeting, and neither was the National Chairman. This shows a lot. In any case, the tenure of about 80% of those at the meeting expired in October last year. They are also aware that this matter is in court. Even Chairman Wabara, who was taken to court, sent a representative. Their advice is just that — advice, and it cannot be taken seriously.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di9LSGM7fGI |

Immigrants should have to wait at least 15 years before they become eligible for British citizenship, the Conservatives have said. Arguing that citizenship should only go to people who have shown “a real commitment” to Britain, Tory leader Kemi Badenoch urged the Government to make it harder for immigrants to secure permanent residency or a UK passport. Mrs Badenoch said: “The Conservative Party is under new leadership. We’re going to tell the hard truths about immigration. “The pace of immigration has been too quick and the numbers coming too high for meaningful integration. We need to slow down the track for citizenship. A UK passport should be a privilege not an automatic right.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSqsjG1sTpc |

The Ogun State Government suspended the Olorile of Orile Ifo, Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, for six months for assaulting a 73 year old man, Chief Abraham Areola. This was contained in a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Ganiyu Hazmat, and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta.
