Career / Masters In Telecoms Or IT by BlessedJonMoss: 10:08am On Apr 10
Hello there,
I kindly seek your advice please.
I hold a first degree in electrical and electronics engineering. I currently work as an OSP engineer with an ISP in Lagos.

I plan to further my education by going for masters this year but I'm having a hard time deciding what course to for.

The two options I'm considering are Information Technology (IT), and Telecommunication engineering(Telecoms).

IT because I feel there's more versatility and opportunity there and the career path seems future proof, considering the projected impact of cloud computing, IOT and other techs.

Telecoms because it is the field I am practicing and have experience in. With the msc it won't be difficult to move to a better position and advance in the field considering my experience. I know the career is also secured cos the whole of IT still depends on telecommunication.

Please help with your opinion

This is my chat with a lady I recently met.
I'm already tired of her poor conversation skills.
Is she being intentionally cold towards me or that's just how she is?

Thank God you know say Nigerian guys be Mofo.
It's normal for her to be attracted to a guy, she's 19.
Just tell her stuffs that guys do, so that she won't love with her heart but with her head. She should be able to sieve deceit from truth ( even though it can be hard with those mofos)
Advice her to always use Condom
Make she no act like say Na only her dey the guy life, so that when the breakfast is served she no go too cry.
She shouldn't spend the night In his house, and shouldn't cook or wash for him.
And if any of his friends should call her ' our wife' make she slap am or shush the idiot up.
She should keep her head in the GAME, cos no be love Na business transaction.

God! I wish I have a younger sister.

Thanks for your wonderful advice, it's very much appreciated.

Actually, not all guys are mofos, lol. The ones who intentionally hurt ladies are.

And I'd be glad to share my younger sis with you, if you don't mind. wink

Thank God you said "hardly".
Nothing good comes easy. Better to go through the "hardly " and have an easy (peaceful) married life than to get the easy (non virgin) and have a terrible married life like many men are currently having today.
Imagine the torment the man who will marry the op's sister will face after the boyfriend is done with her. God forbid!

Believe it or not, there are virgins at 22 in Nigeria; not every girl is a slut.

At first you sounded like some one with a brain, then all of a sudden your stup!d!ty overpowered your 30 seconds of sense in a day. @Bolden, na wetin go happen to all ya female relatives marriage be dat.

jeromestarks:
There is nothing anyone here would say that will save that girl from heartache if the boyfriend is less than 27.
There is nothing the op can do to stop her from destruction if the boy is less than 27.

There is no magic and no angel that will save that girl if the guy is less than 27.

So guys, keep your advice!
She's gone!

Okay, we get it. You are 27, lonely, broke and depressed. You need help.

Tell her there is a 98.72% chance her first relationship wont be her last.
Tell her to be ready to expect anything, expect everything and expect nothing.

Its a relationship bro, no single person understands it all.

Romance / Help! My 19 Year Old Sister Is In A Relationship by BlessedJonMoss: 7:43pm On Oct 11, 2022
So my kid sis who is just nineteen told me she had some gist for me. I quickly suspended all I was doing to hear the gist my 'first lady', as I fondly call her, has for me.

Lo and behold she said "bro I now have a boyfriend, I'm in a relationship"

I wasn't in any way surprised to hear this, as I've always suspected she has one from the myriad of boys that call her. I expected her to tell me herself whenever she was ready, and I am glad she found the courage and aso trust me enough to open up to me.

After breaking the gist, she asked for my advice to her. I told her I was busy and had to return to work, that we'll talk later.

So please good people of Nairaland, what advice would you give to a nineteen year old starting her very first relationship?

I don't want her to get hurt by any mofo, nor do I want her to be a leech anybody's son.

You advice pls....
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Requirements For A Job In A Tel'com. Company? by BlessedJonMoss: 9:23am On Aug 26, 2022
Alore:

I work in a Telecom company. The trend in the industry is fast changing and I will advise you to position yourself for the future. Field operation and field maintenance functions in Telecoms companies are being outsourced to Telecoms coy like Ericsson, Huawei, IHS (facilities, infrastructure maintenance). In those companies, graduates of PSE will have jobs but trust me, mostof those jobs can be dead end having no sterling future prospects in the scheme of things - at best you keep on doing the same thing with some little changes.

What is the future of Telecoms? The trend is IP, Cloud Technology, Application-based solutions. On this note, I'll strongly advise you to follow a career path that gets you footing and assures you climbing on the right ladder into the future.

So in summary:
1. go for ECE or COE for your undergraduate study
2. Finish with very good grade (minimum 2.1 or Upper Credit)
3. Get relevant certifications relevant to future-demanding technologies e.g. IP Technologies (Cisco - CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, Juniper, etc). Read more on certification tracks on www.cisco.com/certifications. Get skills/certification on others, like cloud computing, network security and solutions architecture and designs. Also, read up on IT Projects and Business certifications e.g. PMP, PRINCE2, ITIL, AGILE, SCRUM, SIX SIGMA, etc. There are some Telecoms/IT jobs where coding/scripting/software development skills are demanded. Most foreign jobs posted in Telecoms section have these in very high demand. Most of these guys work on the applications side - VAS (Value Added Services e.g. callerbacktunes, Callerfeel, etc.
4. Get a job that gives you experience along any of the above or similar career track and work steadily but swiftly around to learn the ropes and be an authority. Prioritise on company where there is training and exposure to these technologies; the pay may not be much but stick with a company that teaches you hands-on skills. Get as many relevant certifications as you can, ensuring you follow through to at least professional level of your core career track within the first three (3) years of your working.
5. Strategically, look out for a change of roles or position after the first 3 years of your job - it may be with same organisation or outside of it. Recruitment people (HR) seems to love people who have strong career mobility.
6. After your first 3 years, get expert certifications. Also, go for your MSc or MBA, to prepare you for taking up managerial positions.
Continuous learning is the key! Don't spend your early money you made at work to buy Lexus 350 and take up 3 bedroom flat in Lekki!!! Use it instead to invest in your career. If you must travel out, let it be that you go for workshops and seminars relevant to your career! Don't just go there to sleep in expensive hotels and riding in yachts!
Above all, fear God and keep all His commandments! Follow experienced and highly-knowledgeable career gurus in the house like Jarus and Ajanlekoko! These guys are good!

The information you shared here is invaluable.

It is even more meaningful now after more than five years of posting it, I wish I had come across this earlier.

Pls I'd like to connect with you and have more conversation on the topic, if you don't mind.
I've sent you a dm on here on NL, pls respond it.

Thanks

I'm happy you found love and ready to settle down. Congratulations
You have to put into consideration what you gf really wants, is she okay with your supposed arrangement? I know how much ladies love the paparazzi that goes with wedding ceremony.
Also Akwa Ibom I know don't joke with their traditional marriages (most don't really care if you later do white or court, but that traditional eh...). So ask your girl if her people will agree with your plan. It at ll they agree, I hope you're buoyant enough to meet all their demands cos normally their demands are outrageous, you wanting to settle everything with money would have have paying at least double of everything.
I wish you luck and a blessed home!
