The Allied Peoples Movement concluded its case against the President, Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday after it called one witness to testify before the Presidential Election Petition Court.

In its petition, the APM is challenging the election of Tinubu on the grounds that his Vice President, Kashim Shettima, had double nominations as a senatorial and Vice Presidential candidate before the February 25 elections.

The party prayed the court to nullify Tinubu’s victory on the grounds that the process that brought about his declaration as president by the Independent National Electoral Commission was “flawed”.

Cited as respondents in the matter are INEC, President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima, their party, the All Progressives Congress, and Ibrahim Masari.
During the resumed hearing on the matter and while cross-examining the witness, counsel for INEC, Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, asked if she was privy to the notice of substitution of a candidate for the Borno Central Senatorial District ticket received by the electoral commission, to which she answered in the negative.

The senior advocate tendered a letter dated July 6, which the APC addressed to the INEC chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu.

In the letter, the APC said it withdrew Shettima’s nomination for the Borno Central Senatorial District election and invited the electoral commission to observe its supplementary primary election to field a replacement for Shettima in view of the senatorial candidature of Borno Central
Pinheiro said an earlier judgement by the Supreme Court that dismissed a similar suit filed by another party, the Peoples Democratic Party, was based on the APC’s letter announcing Shettima’s withdrawal from the senatorial race.

Other respondents, including Tinubu and the APC, adopted INEC’s defence.

On his part, counsel for the APC, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, presented a certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgement that dismissed the PDP’s suit against Shettima’s alleged dual nomination.

The witness confirmed the authenticity of the apex court decision, which was subsequently admitted in evidence.

In a similar vein, counsel for Tinubu, Wole Olanipekun, SAN, informed the court of several paragraphs of the Supreme Court verdict, which Abubakar read in open court.

On Friday, June 4, the federal government announced the suspension of Twitter's operations in Nigeria.

Though the suspension follows Twitter's removal of a tweet posted by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigerian government said it suspended the operations of the microblogging platform because of its persistent use for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.

Despite outrage from Nigerians and the statements released by the members of the diplomatic community, the federal government has insisted the suspension will stand.

However, on Wednesday, June 9, the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, listed some of the conditions Twitter has to meet for the suspension to be lifted, The Cable reported.

1. Register with CAC
Noting that Twitter pays no taxes to the Nigerian government despite the revenue it generates from Nigerians, the minister said the social media platform has to register with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), a report by The Punch stated.

2. Obtain a license from the NBC
The information minister also stated that Twitter has to get an operation license from the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and then adhere to the conditions stipulated in the license.

3. Sanitise platform
Mohammed added that Twitter must stop allowing its platform to be used for activities that are inimical to the growth of Nigeria and its corporate existence.

Meanwhile, the minister noted that the conditions he highlighted also apply to other social media platforms operating in Nigeria, including Facebook.

President Buhari's personal assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmad, also shared the statement credited to the information minister via Facebook.

He posted:

"The ban imposed on Twitter, will be reversed when the microblogging site is duly registered, licensed, and operates within regulations stipulated in Nigeria, the Information and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed disclosed today, after the Federal Executive Council Meeting."

Owerri, Imo state - The Imo state police command has arrested a native doctor who prepares charms for members of the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and the military wing Eastern Security Network (ESN).

According to Daily Trust, the command also arrested nine persons in connection with the attack on the country home of the state governor, Hope Uzodimma.

Legit.ng gathers that the spokesman of the command, Bala Elkana, made this known in a statement on Wednesday, June 9.

Elkana said police operatives arrested the 65-year-old native doctor named Ezeugo Ordu, on Tuesday, June 8 at Ukwuorji in Mbaitoli local government area, The Punch also stated.

He said Ordu confessed to being a member of IPOB/ESN and made useful statements on the recent attacks on police stations as well as the residence of Governor Hope Uzodinma.

The police spokesman said Ordu further led operatives to the IPOB/ESN camp in a bush close to Njaba River where nine persons were arrested while planning another attack.

Noting that assorted charms were recovered from them, Elkana said two out of the nine arrested in the hideout, including the native doctor, were identified to be part of the hoodlums that attacked the private Governor Uzodimma's residence and some police stations.

Surrender and get "soft landing"
Elkana said the state police commissioner has called on IPOB/ESN members or any other criminal syndicate in the state especially those who stole police arms to voluntarily surrender themselves to enable them to get “soft landing”.

He added that the police boss vowed that those who fail to surrender will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.

The police commissioner also cited as saying that the command will do everything possible to rid Imo state of crime and criminality.
