Governor Ambode made this known on Your-View, a talk show on TV Continental, yesterday morning. Although street hawking is illegal in the State, it is not really being enforced, but Gov. Ambode said the state is now ready to begin massive enforcement of the laws.

Under the laws, Lagos residents could be sent to jail for buying goods from street and traffic hawkers. Street buyers and sellers are now both liable to six months imprisonment or N90,000 fine.

1. There was a report on Friday night that several inmates in Enugu Prison were injured following their protest against bad treatment by the prison authorities. The report claims the inmates complained that the authorities give preferential treatment to some of their colleagues, while majority of them were neglected.

2. The Police Service Commission Friday approved the retirement of 21 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police who were senior in rank to the new acting IG, Idris Ibrahim. 3. The Department of State Services, DSS, has arrested a suspected member of Niger Delta Avengers, Selky Kile Torughedi over plot to assassinate a serving military officer, M.B. Yahaya. In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Tony Tony Opuiyo on Friday, the secret police disclosed that Torughedi was an associate of former militant commander, Government Ekpemupolo also known as Tompolo ad was helping in further investigation.

4. Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu on Friday maintained that he remains the governor of the state despite a recent court ruling that sacked him from office. Addressing reporters on his sack in Umuahia,the embattled governor maintained that the illegality would not stand, insisting that there was an injunction restraining Ogah from being sworn in.

The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have appealed to spirited individuals and organisations planning to contribute to their well-being to deal directly with them and not through questionable Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) that may not have their best interest at heart. The IDPs spoke yesterday when the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), as part of the activities put in place to provide succour to the displaced persons, gave food items to the New Kuchingoro Camp in Abuja.

6. The Sierra Leonean Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Maj.-Gen. Alfred Nelson (retd.) has been reportedly kidnapped. He was abducted along Abuja-Kaduna Expressway in the Federal Capital Territory.The suspected kidnappers whisked him away with his driver on Thursday while heading to Kaduna to attend a function at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in the state. Report says the abductors have already demanded N44M as ransom.
7. Former Governor of Kogi State, Capt Idris Ichalla Wada on Friday alerted Nigerians to the plot to link him to the ownership of debtor companies so as to allow for the freezing of his personal accounts.

Wada who spoke through his Chief Communications Manager, Mr. Phrank Shaibu, said there were efforts by some forces to criminalize him using the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) as the linchpin.

The Lagos State Government said on Friday that it had begun a total enforcement of the law prohibiting street trading and hawking, disclosing that the law would be implemented in all parts of the state. This was disclosed by the state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, during a live programme on Television Continental.

21 Assistant Inspectors General of Police retired today, Friday from the Force. They include controversial Former Rivers State Commissioner, Mbu Joseph Mbu and former Head of the Special Fraud Unit, Johnson Ogunsakin.

The announcement of their retirement was made by the Police Service Commission. According to its spokesman, the AIGs were retired because they were senior in standing to the recently appointed Acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

The statement said: “The Police Service Commission has approved the retirement of 21 Assistant Inspectors General of Police who were senior to the new acting Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim, before his appointment.”

The Chairman of the PSC, Sir Mbam Mike Okiro, wished the affected officers well in their future endeavours.

Ekuigbo community of Ughelli-North Local Government Area of Delta state was thrown into frenzy on Wednesday, June 29, after a suspected rapist was set ablaze.

A crowd reportedly burnt the suspected rapist to death. The suspect was reportedly among some hoodlums who attacked a 22-year-old sales girl where she sold fish feed and gang raped her to coma on Monday, June 27.

The embattled national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff has been removed by an Abuja high court on Wednesday, June 29.

The court presided over by Justice Valentine Ashi (court 29), sacked the party’s chairman from office by nullifying the 2014 PDP constitution amendment upon which Sheriff was appointed as the PDP chairman.

Senator Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction is presently conducting a governorship primaries in Benin City for the Edo state governorship election.

Sheriff, a former governor of Borno state, was appointed as PDP’s national chairman in the interim by the party’s stakeholders after former deputy national chairman, Chief Uche Secondus from the South-East was removed from the position of acting chairman based on the zoning arrangement.

The 2014 amendment had purportedly zoned the office of the party chairman to the North-East zone.

A 22-year-old woman, Bara’atu Rabiu, has been remanded in the Minna Medium Security Prison for allegedly cutting off the penis of her rival’s one-month-old baby, Buhari.

She was arraigned on Monday on one count of attempted homicide before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Minna.


PUNCH Metro learnt that Bara’atu allegedly cut off the victim’s penis at their home in Kuta town, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

It was learnt that the suspect had been married to her husband, Mohammed Rabiu, for seven years, without a child.

She allegedly cut off the baby’s penis to punish him for marrying a second wife.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Bala James, explained that the suspect wanted to kill the victim, adding that the child, who was named after President Muhammadu Buhari, survived the attack.

He said, “The woman used a sharp knife to cut through the genitals of the one-month-old baby. She had been married to her husband for seven years without any child. So, out of pressure, the man decided to marry a second wife.

“When the second wife had a baby, she became angry and frustrated. She thought the best thing to do was to kill the child.

“On June 21, around 10pm, she took the baby to the backyard of their house and used a sharp knife to cut off his penis.

“The cry of the baby attracted neighbours, who rushed to the place and found him in a pool of blood. The suspect wanted to run away, but she was overpowered. She was handed over to the police, while the baby was taken to a hospital.”

The baby was said to have been taken to the Accident and Emergency Ward of the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida Specialist Hospital, Minna.

A Nigerian, who works as a school accountant in the United Kingdom, was on Friday given a 9-year jail term by a Woolwich Court after he was convicted of stealing about £4.1 million of school funds.
Dailymail reports that the vast sum of money was missing from the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Federation Trust in South London.

Identified as Sam Kayode, the 59-year old was also said to be a part-time pastor.


Kayode was said to have spent the money on his late wife, Grace, a “second wife”, Olubunmi Halima, 33, and two other female “partners”, names given as Toyin Lawal, 50 years old and Yetunde Turtak.

The court sentenced Kayode, who gets £57,000 a year wage, after he was found guilty of obtaining £150,000 by theft and £3.95 million by fraud.

He constantly looted the school account for 7 years until he was apprehended in 2012, after a school cleaner came across his paper work and made an anonymous call to the Chief Financial Officer.

He claimed to have moved the money to Nigeria where he has a £1 million empire with Halima but the Trust could not recover any asset from Nigeria.


They were, however, able to recover only £800,000 from the total money he stole.

Apart from spending money on his real wife Grace’s private health care until her death in 2013, he also signed documents showing he was making investments with Halima, and renting flats in Kent for ‘partners’, Toyin and Yetunde.

During trial, Kayode tried to blame the theft on his late wife Grace and an office junior, saying that they conspired to smear him by transferring the money to his joint account in revenge for his adultery.

He denied having affairs with the other women, and said that he lied about marrying Halima.

However, Toyin also denied they were lovers, saying that as her pastor, he paid for her rent for one month when she was short of cash.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has finally arrested Abiodun Agbele for allegedly collaborating with Governor Ayodele Fayose to receive N1.219bn during the Ekiti State governorship election in 2014.
According to the anti-graft agency Agbele is Fayose’s closest friend.

The N1.219bn was said to be part of the N4.7bn that was allegedly diverted from the impress account of the Office of the National Security Adviser and deposited into the bank account of a company belonging to the sons of a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro.

The commission said the money was paid into the company’s account with bank teller number 0540997 by an associate of the governor, Abiodun Agbele.

Estranged wife of a Kenyan Airports Authority (KAA) employee and her relatives have been arrested over a plot to assassinate him.
Buburu Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Jeremiah Ikiao on Thursday, June 23, said Bilha Njoki had hired hitmen to kill her husband but police got wind of the plot and laid a trap to catch her.

Detectives, a day earlier had tricked her that he had been killed and his body dumped in Dandora. After she received the ‘good news’, she sent her brother and a friend to the ‘crime scene’ to confirm if it was indeed true.

Unbeknownst to them, undercover detectives who acted as the hitmen, had taken her husband to the supposed scene and covered his body with blood. When the two arrived and saw the ‘body’, they celebrated and called the woman to ‘confirm’ that he was, indeed, dead.

It was then that the officers arrested the two and confiscated their phones before ordering them to reveal the woman’s whereabouts. Police had made sure that they had gathered adequate evidence before making the arrest.

The police informer had been told to meet the planners at a restaurant along Manyanja Road that had a CCTV camera and had also been given a recorder.

The sleuths had also kept a record of all calls and had established that she had bought a new phone and line for the planning of the execution of her estranged husband.

The woman was arrested near Mama Lucy Hospital while inside a black Toyota Harrier together with her sister. The detectives recovered Sh400, 000 and six mobile phones.
The hitman was to be paid Sh500,000, but the woman only paid Sh100,000 as down payment. The remaining Sh400,000, which was recovered from the car when they were arrested, was to be paid after she had confirmed that her husband had been killed.

In his statement to the police, the husband, a resident of Buruburu Phase 5, said that he married her in 2007 and that they have two children. However, they separated early last year and the children have been under his custody.

Mr Ikiao said that his officers had worked closely with her estranged husband to gather enough evidence about the plan and also to trap the hitmen while at the same time ensuring that he was safe.
Police said the intended killing could be due to properties and businesses the two still co-own. Among the properties owned by the estranged couple are a house in Buruburu Estate and a mobile phone shop along Luthuli Avenue.

The suspects are expected in court on Friday to be charged with conspiracy to commit murder

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission last week obtained an interim order from the Lagos State Magistrate Court, Ikeja District, to remand the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Oyo State Chapter, Yinka Taiwo in its custody for the next 30 days.

The detention order will enable operatives of the Commission progress with investigations and prevent any interference in the alleged illegal disbursement of monies running into billions of Naira belonging to the Federal Government of Nigeria through some banks to politicians in the eve of the last general elections.

The embattled policeman attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Lagos State Police Command, Inspector Festus Omotosho, aka Ijaya, has been detained by the command for allegedly working with a suspected robber, Akeem Popoola. It was learnt on Thursday that Ijaya, who 21-year-old Popoola said he was working for, was also being investigated by the Ogun State Police Command.




The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, had summoned Ijaya for interrogation on MondaY. It reported on April 11 that Popoola, who was arrested for robbery and burglary by the police in Ogun State, told PUNCH Metro that he helped Ijaya to sell phones to unsuspecting members of the public.


He added that minutes after the sale, the inspector and two others – Abbey and Aluko – would handcuff him and take him to the buyers. He explained that Ijaya would accuse the buyers of acquiring stolen property and demand a bribe of between N120,000 and N150,000, adding that he got a N5,000 share for each successful deal.

The Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed Ijaya’s detention, saying he would be prosecuted for criminal charges if found culpable of the allegation. She added that the command had commenced investigation into the allegation against him. She said, “The CP Lagos State Command has ordered his (Ijaya’s) detention. The command and the Ogun State Police Command are investigating the criminal charges. If he is culpable, he will be prosecuted.

“The leadership of the police is committed to cleaning up the force and will continue to decisively deal with bad eggs. We will inform you when the outcome of the investigation is ready.”

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, who also confirmed Ijaya’s arrest, said he would face the wrath of the law if found wanting. He added that the two commands were working together on the matter.

He said “The inspector has been arrested, but he is being investigated by the Lagos command for now. We will make sure we have proper investigation into the case. He is there with other suspects. It is a joint assignment with the Lagos command. We assure the public that those found wanting in the case will face the full wrath of the law.”

Wizkid has neither responded nor followed up to his shade and neither has Linda Ikeji acknowledged it.

Denrele Edun who was a very close friend to late singer, Goldie visited her graveside to mark her remembrance.

It will be recalled that the singer died on February 14, 2013 shortly after returning from a US trip.
