Linda Hope Initiative Set To Hold Discussion On Existential Threats Facing African Girl Child

As efforts continue to give the girl child a pride of place in African and Nigerian society, a non-governmental organisation, Linda Hope Initiative has concluded plans to host a panel discussion which will among other things identify and proffer solutions to glaring challenges confronting the girl child.

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at No 30 Lobito Crescent Wuse 2 Abuja, the event will kick start at 2pm prompt.

The event will be hosted by the founder of the organisation, Linda Turner and Prof. Matthew Uzukwu.

Expected as panelists are Alfreda Francis, Chika Philip-Ogo and Hon. Bernard Mikko.

Recall that in a heightened campaign against gender based violence (GBV) the federal government through the Ministry of Women Affairs, National Council for Women Development, NCWD and other relevant stakeholders sought a stiffer punishment for identified culprits.

Nigeria has been ranked a volatile place for the girl child following reported cases of sexual violence and harmful cultural practices, particularly female circumcision, non-inclusion of the female child in sharing family assets among others.

The federal government had earlier launched a sexual offenders register domiciled at National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP which seeks to name and shame pedophiles, rapists and other sexual related offenders.

It is also believed that of the UN estimated 13m out-of-school children in Nigeria, girls constitute a large chunk of the number.
