ACL:This was discussed last week and I was made to understand it is risky.I took position some months ago in Union Homes at 7.50kobo.I know they plan a public offer in the first quarter of their new financial year.Deap Capital is another company.I bought this just before they went on TS.My broker tells me I will qualify for the Rights Offer but we have to wait and see.Either way it is an okay investment for me.Sterling Bank-I suspect the merger with EcoBank will not go through. If you read what I posted yesterday with regards to their MDs double speak.5 times he spoke negatively about the merger with only 1 positive statement. In anyway he says we will know in 4 weeks if the merger will go through or not.I suspect they will come out of TS if the merger does not go through and But timing is important lest you are cut off from the rights offer. And remember this is very long term investment.Look at a 6 months period.Caveat ACTOR sorry EMPTOR |
I have not received my returned money for ACCESS not to talk of Certifcate.I tire |

Latest on Sterling Bank/Ecobank Merger Merger talks between Sterling Bank Plc and Ecobank Nigeria Plc have reached an advanced stage as consultants have been commissioned to conduct valuation of both companies. The Group Managing Director, Sterling Bank, Mr. Yemi Adeola, who disclosed this at an interactive session with journalists, on Tuesday in Lagos, said that the due diligence had already been concluded on both firms. He said that the Akintola Williams Deloitte did the due diligence on Sterling Bank while Ernst and Young did the exercise on Ecobank. Also, Sterling Bank has hired Afrinvest to do the valuation of Ecobank, while IBTC Chartered Bank is to do the Sterling Bank valuation. Adeola, who pointed out that the deal was yet to sail through said that the preservation of shareholder value was the key determinant of the success of the transaction. “Nothing has been cast in iron. We need to agree on what is in the best interest of shareholders. In four weeks, we should be able to say, if the merger is for real or not. If it is not, it will be for professional reason. But we are optimistic that it will work,” he said. The Sterling Bank boss said both companies were hoping to harness the synergies inherent in the business combination, which would see a new large bank with presence in key markets in 23 countries across Africa. He said this would leverage on the investment banking prowess of Sterling Bank. He added that the bank decided to explore the merger option because it was imperative that institutions continued to grow in today’s globalised environment. He said, “It is all about growth and size. Would you own much in a tiny entity or a little in a giant? The world is a global village. You either align with globalisation or perish.” Adeola noted that the bank had been doing a house cleaning in the past two years to lay a solid foundation for the future. He said,” We are building an enduring institution that will be the pride of shareholders. We have taken the pain to clean our books. We have made provision for bad loans instead of declaring huge profit. There must be some element of conservatism in banking, so we have chosen moderate but steady growth.” He said that if the merger, which he noted, was a simpler expansion strategy, did not go through, the bank would approach the capital market to raise funds to boost its capital base. He said that the management had no doubts that a Sterling Bank public offer would succeed. He said the bank would continue to focus on three core areas – investment banking, trade finance and consumer banking |

Transcorp retains 51% equity in NITEL, MTEL The Federal Government has retracted its earlier stance on the sale of the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) and its subsidiary, Mobile Telecommunications Ltd (MTEL) to Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) as it on Monday retained 51 per cent equity holding of Transcorp in the two telecommunications outfits until a new core investor is identified. The Federal Government had on February 16 this year announced the reversal of the sale of NITEL and MTEL to Transcorp and also directed that investigations be carried out on the management contract of NITEL/MTEL by Pentascope, the current core investor. Announcing the reversal, the Minister of Information and Communications, Mr. John Odey, said the measure was part of government's efforts in ensuring that due process and the Rule of Law were followed at all times. |
