I am not in contention with you on the subject of third party interference in conflict . Oga, google will not say wether the USA won any war since WW2. Winning or loosing a war is subjective. Its based on how the Americans see the wars they've been involved in. The only loss they'll generally agree that they took was the Vietnam war (and maybe the Korean war of the 50s) because they failed to kill or capture the leaders of the communist forces involved |

Putin007: Is extreme corruption in the Nigerian Military ? Yes
Is our Military under Funded ? Yes.
Who is to blame ? The legislature, The Generals,
But just know this, even if we get 300 Billion dollars in military funding, Boko Haram / insurgency won't stop,
Black market military contractors, Greedy National assembly members, 3rd party contractors ( those in charge of idp camps), Nations with vested interest in West Africa like France, and citizens who benefit in whatever means won't allow it, plus this a guerrilla war, even the United States have lost their last 4 wars, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and then possibly Iran. The US doesn't see these wars as a loss. Because of the death of the following, Osama Bin Laden, Muammar Ghaddafi, Saddam Hussein and recently the death of Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi of Isis. And Vietnam was a loss because they rushed into it without understanding the terrain and underestimating the resilience of the Vietcong and NVA. A mistake they sure won't make again. Also note that that was their first real intro to Jungle Guerrila warfare. Let's not also forget about the interference of the then Soviet Union who supplied arms and ammo to the VC and NVA |

cheerokee: Just to add a little on what ugo4u mentioned, the AK47 remains the best assault rifle we have in this world. . It is capable of firing under any condition, including under water. . It doesn't have stoppages due to firing for long. . Soldiers at the battle front don't have to bother about cleaning their rifles always because it requires little or no maintenance. . In general, the usage of AK47 by the Nigerian Army can't bw downplayed atall.
You both have very salient points and I was able to pick a thing or two from you guys (Ugo4u & Blueelf). . It's a shame our military are yet to completely defeat this insurgency, but also have in mind that those guys (the Boko Haram & ISWAP members) are well trained, if not more trained than our soldiers. . The solid backup they have and the surprise attacks (ambush) are what is giving them an edge over our armed forces, imagining them possessing high end weapons like Anti Aircraft (AA), RPG, GPMG. . Bare it in mind that the tactics and approach of war (Guerrilla Warfare) is what's making it difficult to completely defeat the insurgents in Nigeria, that's the same tactics the Al Qaeda and Al Shaban are using in their terrorism which has made them still dominant today. . The Nigerian Army of this decade isn't same as previous ones, anyone who's joining the Nigerian Army should brace up and make up his mind that he is going to fight terrorism be it RC, SSC, DSSC, EC or RRI and should be ready to pay the ultimate price. . May God help us all Thanks brother I'm not against the use of the AK-47. In fact, I prefer it to the M16 assault rifles due to its more distant firing range. However, the ones we have are too old and worn out. I get worried about the young guys that are being wasted whose death are totally avoidable. And I don't think I want to believe that the ISWAP guys are better trained. However, Musa has been at the gate too long to know that anything is possible. The question is; do al-qaeda now have better training centres than Depot? Or is it that they have more battle hardened veterans in their ranks? Please could you throw more light on these so that I may know more. Cc Odinmbannamdi, Ugo4U, Sikowitz. |

charlesemeka85: Victor Osimhen update
Liverpool transfer target Victor Osimhen has emerged as a potential for signing for Real Madrid and Barcelona with the January window now open.
The Nigeria forward has shone since swapping Charleroi for Lille over the summer, putting in impressive performances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
Express Sport understands Jurgen Klopp would love to land the hotshot this month to boost his options in attack for the second half of the season.
However, Spanish outlet Marca are reporting Real and Barcelona pose a threat to Liverpool’s chances of getting Osimhen on board. Liverpool is the best for this guy now. Klopp will bring out the best in him. Not saying this because I'm a Reds fan but I have a bad feeling about Barca and Madrid |

ugo4u: You're totally ignorant of what is going on.. Those soldiers you see wearing Wellington boots did so not because they don't have jungle boots they wore that boot because as of the time the video was shot it was raining season in NE and it is easier for them to move with Wellington boots than the normal jungle boots because of the terrain during rainfall. You'll be somewhere in Lagos or Calabar analysing what you have no idea of, if you want to know if recruits have training after depot travel down to the north and see things for yourself, go to Jaji and ask them such questions, the fact that you don't see soldiers parade themselves with equipment doesn't mean that they don't have it. The AK 47 still remains the most reliable weapon in the world, it can operate in any condition and cost of maintenance is low and eastyto manage compared to the much taunted Tavor Rifles used by the DSS and some special units. I know an officer in the frontline that always query his soldiers for not dressing properly due to I don't care attitude, it's even the harmattan that is making some of them in the NE put on their complete kit. We're not there yet and their is room for improvement in all aspects of this war against insurgency but the bottom line of everything is that you can't build anything on nothing, the political class and policy makers should make provision for adequate funding and also strengthen already existing institutions to checkmate corruption. You said most Generals are theives but if you're called upon to defend your wide sweeping generalisation you won't be able to do so, let's be guided with the kind of utterances we make, if you think you have better idea you can join he military or better still become a policy makers at the political stratum and bring reforms. PS Don't compare the US Navy SEALs with our regular fighting troops, that's fallacy of false equivalence. You can't even compare them with US regular soldiers, those guys are highly skilled in their craft by virtue of the immeasurable investment by the US govt and are also few in number, you don't expect them to have casualty rate like regular guys. Oga, you started this. Don't put it on me. I was the one that told you to stop it in my first reply to your post. And if I have been following your posts on this thread correctly, you're also no authority on the war in the NE because you're not even an officer. I am also in support of the officer querying his men on proper dressing. And of you have read my post, the generals know of the corruption among the political class and yet many join them. Is it not sad? Okay, what do you have to say of the general caught when his boys escaped with bags of money? The wheelchair one currently standing trial? And don't tell me its an isolated case. We only got to hear of it because his boys ran away. I'm sure this movement of hundreds of millions happens on a daily basis. Tell me where he for the money from? He is a business man right? He even said those trying him have no moral ground because they are all in it together. Don't defend the Nigerian Army because you love them. The Generals you so worship are common thieves. Ole Ni won. Ole Aji bole ni won. And they have caused deaths of many young and gallant men with their thieving. |

charlesemeka85: Real Madrid are watching three of Lille's star players.
Marca says Boubakary Soumare, Victor Osimhen and Gabriel dos Santos Magalhaes, who is known simply as 'Gabriel', are all on Real's radar.
Casemiro is the only pure defensive-minded midfielder that Zinedine Zidane has at the moment and finding a natural replacement for him is high on his list of requests, with Soumare currently topping the list of names.
Osimhen, 22, arrived from Charleroi last summer for just 12 million euros and with 10 goals already in Ligue 1 and two in the Champions League he's grabbed the attention of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool.
And then there's Gabriel. The 22-year-old defender struggled to settle in Europe and at Lille at first. He was loaned to Dinamo Zagreb and Troyes and only started to show himself this season, earning interest from Juventus I want Osimhen at Liverpool.. Danielnino00, wetin you think? |

ugo4u: Yes I use the Navy seal as a benchmark to drive my point that no matter how well you're trained as a soldier death is not out of the table. A US Navy seal by virtue of his training and exposure is equivalent to a doctorate degree holder in Harvard(this is to tell you their level of exposure in all manner of high risk operations). If you're a student of past and contemporary military history you won't be asking if the navy seala have casualties. Go and pick up secret memoirs of the war in vietnam now declassified on the operations of the the Navy seals, they lost men in that war & they keep losing men till date, the difference is that the casualties is not as high as regular troops, a navy seal is equivalent in efficiency to 20 regular soldiers. No matter how kitted you're as a soldier it doesn't take away the fact that you'll not die, it only reduces the chances, go again and watch how US marines were massacred in Mali last year by ragtag militias, even our soldiers won't make such tactical error in a flat terrain (desert) with almost no obstacles to take cover. If you say troops are not well kitted then it's either you don't know what's on ground or you just talking for talking sake, I know for sure that kits are being distributed to troops the situation has improved unlike before, enforcing soldiers to put them on is another issue entirely. We have problem with funding our military, no serious nation funds their military from regular budget, so before you blame the Generals first of all ask your politicians how much they earmark for military spending, infact go and look at the budget of the Armed forces which is grossly a pittance and yet they don't get full disbursement of funds yet you want them to perform magic, go and look at the defence budget and spending of advanced militaries in the world you people like comparing Nigeria to before making your categorical statement. Common Chad spent $1bn for their military last year, I don't want to even call America sef only their Army aviation unit have more aircraft than the entire military bin West Africa talkmore of other arms of service. And for your information it cost an average of $2m to train a US special forces soldier or a Russian Spetsnaz, so is it in your Nigerian way of funding military you want to see the money to train our special forces to the class of the Navy seals, Spetsnaz, Haga nar, Shin bet, Legionnaires etc? My brother you should be realistic and channel your grievances to the right channel. Oga, nowhere has the navy seals lost as much personnel as we are currently loosing in the war against terrorism. The most annoying thing is the fact that of all the military forces to use as basis of comparison, na Navy Seals come to your mind. Navy seals vs Nigerian Army is like comparing a blue whale with an ant. Sikowitz's anger is that most of those deaths are avoidable. Our guys are ready to do the job but lack support. And I'm not saying they should be kitted like the US. Army but having night vision goggles (a middle school project in the US), should not be rocket science for the so called "Giant of Africa". The Generals are thieves. Its one thing to get derisory funds for arms and munitions but its another thing for you to make maximum use of what you have to achieve your goals. Why steal and cause the death of your men. In my estate, there's a place called Generals street. A plot of land there cost 15million Naira upwards yet these guys build edifices like no man business. Tell me, where are they getting the Money? And nobody should tell me its investment because we all know that they don't earn that much. OK, I posted a video last week or so about an ambush that led to the death of several of our guys. In that video, I saw the boots that our soldiers were wearing.... Ha!!!!!! Imagine soldiers wearing rain boot for combat. Are you saying that the Nigerian Army cannot buy combat boots for our soldiers? Are you saying that the best we can do with our " small budget" are rusty AK-47s used since the 80s. Are you saying the best we can do are 1960 Czechoslovakian tanks? Are you saying the best we can do are a meal a day for men who risk their lives daily? Are you saying the best we can do are 40% of the allowances for hardworking men? I watch the videos of NDA cadets undergoing training and I'm impressed with their kits. They may not be world standard but it would help a long way if soldiers in the North-East were given these kits. What happens to these kits once our boys graduate from the Academy? Being a soldier isn't by singing and dancing to outdated music, its more than that. Do our boys have combat discipline? Do recruits undergo training when they leave depot? Or is depot the only time they are trained? Please stop defending mediocrity. Give the Nigerian Army 1/50 of what is obtainable on the armed forces of France(not even the US) and watch our boys do wonders. |

MUTERIKA: Understanding what Ugo4u said is key. As an active soldier, more over, a combatant, death is always lurking. You can't stay in your location and think you know all about the frontline's happenings. US does loses soldiers too, even seals but their discreet nature and pride of service will change the mood of the people. Here in Nigeria, we always take the glory from the fallen heroes by attributing their deaths to one thing or the other. Kit or not, the thing that matters most on the front is the soldier and the degree of training. We will always make reference to US because despite their kit, ambushes and other tactical and technical goofs still cause loss of troops. Please read my second paragraph carefully this time |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Nigerian Army SSC And DSSC 2016/2017 Forum by Blueelf: 8:26am On Jan 03, 2020 |
ugo4u: You have to come to terms with the fact that once you become a soldier you've already signed your death warrant, it has little or nothing to do with Generals. Senior officers often visit troops in the front to encourage and boost their morale, they too have paid their dues when they were junior officers. The bitter truth is that we're in the middle of a very tricky war, and in war good men must fall irrespective of the amount of training or equipment you have. That's the sad reality, that's why the best welfare any soldier can receive is training and more training, this is to atleast mitigate casualties even in countries with advanced military are not spared of casualties in war. The US navy seals who are arguably the best trained and equipped special forces in the world loses some of their personnel in action, talkmore of regular soldiers. As a soldier your goal is to successfully complete your mission or objective making it out alive after each operation is like a gift because no one is guaranteed anything, being a professional soldier is no child's play talkmore of a combatant. Funny that you should bring the Navy Seals into this discussion. Please state where the Navy Seals looses personnel like water the way the Nigerian Army does. Also state situations in which the Navy Seals aren't properly kitted. Don't also forget to state situations where their top commanders have allegations of corruption levelled against them. State situations in which Navy Seals refused to go fight because they weren't adequately fed or clothed or given the right weapons. State where Navy seals were involved in mutiny. Nigerian Army has become a big joke. They can't even combat Boko haram effectively not to talk of stopping external foreign aggression in its tracks. The other day I was thinking.....if Ghana, Benin, Chad and Cameroon decides to invade us and focus on Abuja, Nigeria will fall in 10 hrs. Why, because you'll find out that even the planes for air support aren't working and then the commanders that should be queried for mediocre results would sit tight on their jobs. Giant of Africa my foot. They think soldering is about planting heads and singing outdated songs. I wonder how people even get motivated by those songs sef Instead of Nigeria to overhaul its training to suit the needs of modern warfare, they are busy closing border for Chicken (this one weak me). All their planting of heads, na one bullet dey end am. Do you have special forces? No. Because there's nothing really special about them. No special kit, training, ammo, no night vision goggles. No special tactics. See them getting wasted like chickens (this part infuriates me to no end). Average training for a spec-op soldier in the US is 2yrs but Nigeria will carry you to one eastern European country for 4 months and then at the end of it all, they will call you special forces. Then they will kit you so that you'll be looking like village hunter. Then, you'll hear nonsense like "all die na die", "how you die determines if you're a man or not". I'd rather die knowing my country fully supported me with the best than die as a chicken getting slaughtered and the whole thing released on video to the delight of terrorist and their apologist. Oga, most of the casualties were avoidable if the right kit and motivation were given to our soldiers. If their allowances were paid on time without unexplainable deductions. If their commanders were humane to the wounded. You goofed this time. You really goofed. |
