A group of 165 Somali religious leaders concluded a five-day National Conference on Extremism Wednesday evening (September 11th) in Mogadishu, issuing a fatwa condemning al-Shabaab, Somalia's Radio Dalsan reported. The clerics said al-Shabaab was a "strayed group" attempting to divert Muslims from practicing their faith. They also said al-Shabaab was wrong to label the Somali government an apostate government, as it works under Muslim principles. The clerics called on al-Shabaab to repent, and urged Somalis not to join the group, support it or shelter its members. The communiqué also asked Somalis to report al-Shabaab members to the Somali authorities, and said both the government and civilians should support the fight against the militants. Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon, who gave the closing remarks at the conference, said the Somali federal government would take resolutions from the conference under consideration in its efforts to fight extremism, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported. Religious leaders, scholars, elders and intellectuals from across the country and the diaspora met to devise solutions to increase security and stability in Somalia. |
KHARTOUM, Sudan – Sudan's official news agency says authorities in Saudi Arabia barred an aircraft carrying longtime President Omar al-Bashir from entering the kingdom's airspace. The Sudan News Agency reported that the plane carrying al-Bashir and a number of other high-level Sudanese dignitaries was heading to Tehran, where the president was to attend the inauguration and swearing-in of Iran's new President Hasan Rouhani on Sunday. The Sudan news agency said that Sudanese authorities were waiting for an explanation from their Saudi counterparts as to why al-Bashir's plane was denied access to cross its airspace. Al-Bashir was not seen at Rouhani's inauguration. Sudan media says that al-Bashir had chartered a Saudi plane for the trip. Saudi officials could not be immediately reached for comment. Saudi Arabia and Iran are regional foes. Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2013/08/04/sudan-al-bashir-barred-from-saudi-airspace-en-route-to-iran-president/#ixzz2b2cuDZfu |
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olugbenga Ashiru was trying to be politically correct. He should be summoned by the National Assembly to explain his give on the interprtation of our law on the gay marriage issue. His statement portrays us as a peolpe that are not focused. How do you relax your laws for foriengners and hold your citizens accountable to such laws...only in Nigeria. The respect a friendly country has for you will reflect in the manner it respect your laws when it comes to sending you diplomats. Somebody should remind this misfit minister that being a diplomat does not place you above the laws of the land. Please don't quote me 'diplomatic immunity' as reason for his guff. Moderator front page please, this is a matter of National Interest. |
Strange...... |
@Adewale2011, no sir, your child is not exclusively your business. The State has a say in what happen to your child. He or she is a citizen with rights just like you. Now, what is the connection between the dreaded VVF and early marriage? Why are cases of VVF more rampant in the Northern part of the country? This law is meant to exploit the poor and the weak in the society. They can not object now when these perverts wants to molest their children. Yarima is a disgrace to Islam. |
Somethings we should take into consideration on this matter. 1. The NYSC Camp life is a regimented life and in this kind of life style you loss some amount of your Human Rights. a. You are asked to sleep even when you are not ready (remember lights out?) b. You are made to wake even when the weather is so so harsh (ask those that served in the North especially during the harmattan) c. You take part in compulsory morning Physical Exercise that your VC will not attempt to order. d. You must wear that uniform even if you have the best jeans in the world. e. You must remain in the Camp for the period of the Orientation Exercise. 2. It is only the soldiers that have been mandated to ensure this regimentation in Camp. 3. The Camp Commandant is responsible for discipline in the Camp in addition to ensuring that the regimented life style is upheld. Now the impression that the average officer or soldier is a dullard is very deceptive. Some here have tried NDA exams until they suddenly realised that they were fathers and no longer qualified. Somebody commented that we have not gotten the whole gist but the two parties were wrong. If the story here is correct, the Commandant have no business addressing the girl while an NYSC Official was already at the scene unless she had been rude to the Official. The Commandant ought to know her status in the Camp i.e. some of the regimental rules do not apply to her as she is not undergoing Orientation Exercise. Yes, when she was ordered to go back into her room she should have obeyed. A succesful act of insurbordination especcialy in the presence of other surbordinates will lead to mutiny which in this case will be rioting in Camp. And we will all blame the Commandant for lack of grip. An officer is a gentleman and so the physical contact was wrong....at a lady at that... Will the officer be punished? After a detailed investigation and if found culpable why not.... But was he doing his legitimate duty of ensuring peace and harmony in the Camp? We weren't there. My symparthy to the lady. However, if you have folks going to NYSC camp do well to drum some of the considerations above into their heads and they will enjoy the Camp. Peace and no hate. |

For all of you having problem with us honouring the Blessed Virgin Mary I ask, did Mary blasphemed when she declared that "all generations shall call me blessed"? The Holy Spirit allowed that to be in the Holy Bible (those who doctored the Holy Book could not reject that either). Now if you are not honouring the Blessed Virgin Mary do you really have a part in her Son who was the Word that became Man for our salvation? And for those of you quarreling us for following the Church's doctrine, have you forgotten the mandate our Lord Jesus Christ gave Peter (the fisrt pope)when He gave him the Keys of the Kingdom. He gave him the power of binding and loosing. Please note here that the binding and loosing is not only in relation to hindering satan and his agents but also in making regulations (doctrine)for the body of Christ. The Lord assure the first pope that whatever regulation he he decide on earth will be accepted in Heaven and whatever regulation(s)he repealed on earth same will be struck off in heaven (remember when the Lord during His teachings will say "it was said to you.... but I say to you....)- authority to make/change doctrine. We continue to pray for our brothers and sisters outside the Catholic Church to come to the knowledge of the thruth about the one Church. Yes, we celebrate 150 years in Nigeria, but do we really need to celebrate if we take the promise of Christ into consideration? He said to Peter that the gates of hell cannot prevail against the Church. And those of you fighting the Catholic Church, are you not representing the gates of hell? Please know the implication of your spiritual stands, it matters because your immortal soul is involve. Glory to Jesus, Honour to our Mother Mary. |

When you follow a trend I think you do so to learn and not to spread falsehood. The programme was not a call-in programme where listeners could air their veiws. It was also not aired in English but Hausa. They were not discussing the merits or demerits of the vacine but why people should not accept the vacine. They categorically stated that the vacination was a ploy to use the children of the poor as guinea pigs for medical test sponsored by the West and the UN. They claim the rich and enlightened do not admit the vacine to their children. They claimed district heads have been bribed by the goverment to ensure their subjects participate in the exercise-------and the next day innocent health workers (women) were murdered in cold blood while preparing to set off for the exercise. Is there a correlation? Judge for yourself and stop crucifying our Police for doing a very difficult job among our very difficult selves. |
[quote author=Super1759][b] I love my country Nigeria. A Nigerian set up a discusion Forum and named it NAIRALAND and some clowns who are not Nigerians came to register to chat without shame. And to push thier shamelessness further, they insult the mother land of the fellow that allow them to chat online without charge. Fellow Nigerians, most post passing insult on our dear nation are not from Nigerians. Useless idiots that have nothing to show for their progress than to hate Nigeria with a passion. Recently, they were waiting for us to rush into Mali as we did in Liberia ans Sierra Leone but they were surprised as we have learnt our lessons. Our Foreign Policy thrust is no longer Africa centered but Nigeria centered, big brother my foot. Insult us as you please, we will determine your faith when the time come weather Obama visit you or not. People behaving like bastards. Take your advice to your hamlet you call country. |
There is alot that meet the eyes in the way the Nigerian Team is been treated in AFCON 13. I see a conspiracy to punish us for not paying the exploitative veiwing right fee. However, we can only be treated this way because of the way we conduct ourself as a nation. We take everything for granted. We actually beleive no Nigerian referee is qualified for AFCON. That is a lie from the devil. The Super Eagles did their very best in the last match. The power that be in Africa football had really wanted to see to our disgrace in the match with Zambia. They ended up disgracing themselves. For trying to be politicall correct we keep mute when we are robbbed. It is not 'Arab Referees' but Hayatu's hate and manipulations. The Super Eagles are on a National Assignment, we should shout and let hell lose if they are cheated or mantreated in any way. You must respect and honour yourself before others will treat you likewise. |
Kslib: You might think he died for nothing, but GOD will be very proud of him cos he is really a great man,a man of sacrifice,a man of determination,a very rare man...Thank you Kslib. For the 'smart' ones writing that they could use dynamite to do the same task in few minutes, please read the article again. It began with almost 5 daecades ago (5 x 10 years = 50 years ago)when your dynamite was not a household name that your brothers Niger Delta Militants and Boko Haram Terrorists has made it. When you appreciate the tenacity in others your spirit man is challenged to spur you to greater things. Let us see wisdom in your comments please. |
Who is afraid of division? There is no tribe called bini but Edo. They own the Benin Kingdom of then and now. Part of the kingdom is now the present day Edo State-the name derived from the master tribe of the Kingdom. If it hurts no apologies for that is the truth no matter the urgly consequencies of politics that makes the free born to beg bread from the slave. Oba gha to kpe iseeeee. And @ topic it is called Otien in Edo language. |
In as much as I appreciate Bar Falana's concern, I am however not impressed on the reported manner he wish to react to the situation. The beauty of democracy is that it gives room for the people to determine how they are governed. This is in view to making what was held to be right yesterday as being wrong today if the situation demands and someone raised the observation. Closing of airspace for close to one hour, is it a carry over of military mentality? My point here is that the very respected Bar, should focus his energy on the Agency that implemented this rule that most of us here feel is outdated or needed amending rather than seeking to know the VIP. Bar please let the implementing Agency meet you in court. If the Bar carry the day at the court, the agency will henceforth govern itself appropriately when it comes to VIP movement. Let us play by the rule and give the utmost respect to our C - IN - C. All appointment is from God and my Bible says we should pray for our leaders (for good decisions, to be surrounded by men and women after the heart of God.........). No hate please. |
@Sanguine77 Write your will for who then, cats and dogs? Situation may look bleak but there is definitely a solution somewhere. Please use your brain and don't be a defeatist. |

This is a very seriuos national issue presented here as a story. I have always see the almajiri issue as the criminal negligence of the Northern elite. And as in all criminal intents, the personal benefit of the criminal(s) is the motivating factor. In thier selfisness they have painted the Holy Quaran in very bad light. Yes, the Holy Quaran commanded humanity to seek knowledge. It never in any iota ask parents to abdicate thier parental responsibilities by hiding under the guise of fulfilling Holy injuctions. What in the word will make a responsible and God fearing father take his son from Sokoto to Kaduna to a Mallam for Quaranic education without provision for feeding, lodging and clothing? Lets not even talk of the age of the child-some as infantile as 5 years old. No school fees and no obligation to the Mallam in any form. The Arewa People's Forum have till this moment not find it expedient to address this urgly issue staring focusly at the souls of men and yet they could face God 5 times daily? It is either they don't really beleive they approach God in those encounters or they are worst than the infidels. Let the children study the Quaran from thier fathers houses-it is thier right for crying out loud. Everywhere you look these charlatans are desecrating the the Holy Quaran. They make the distant observer to believe the Holy book encourages divource. Women are divorced at the slitest provocation on the mere pronouncement of "I divoiced you" 3 times and are send packing with immediate effect. And what happen to the children? Send them to some distant madrasa. May the Lord have mercy on us. |

@Azharuddin and @Nyrol thank you brothers for your response. And to all my muslim brothers and sisters contributing or reading this trend do not give a thought to some clowns who post useless comments to steal the joy of this divine and ordained celebrations . A deeper check will reveal that they are the real Kafri that needed repentance as they do not understand even the religion they claim to belong. A true believer of any faith respect and show love to followers of other religion(s). Only God is perfect and He will vindicate whoever He pleases weather you like it not. Am a christian and I cherish my interaction with muslim faithfuls from my formative years. May the Merciful Lord accept our obligations and forgive our sins, amen and amen, WASALAM |
Happy Eid Mubarak to all my muslim brothers and sisters. @ Azharuddin, could you please educate me on your statement that the recepient of Zakat should be muslims only . Do have a blessed day as I await your responses for my enlightenment |
@IbrahimB DEJA VU Is this not a case of nemesis catching up with this country? Yes I remember AMODU SHAIBU. Greece has never scored a World Cup goal talkless of winning a match at the Mundial. Today we help them break the double jinx in one match. I am sad. Sad that I did not speak up or write when Amodu was been humiliated. God forgive me. Now we all want to nail the unfortunate Kaita to our cross of wickedness and insensitivity. Please leave the man alone. We still have time to ask Amodu for forgiveness howbeit before the next match or IbrahimB's fear will be a reality. Now I have atleast written and I will say Brother Amodu, we are sorry, really very sorry. |
Hi Nairalanders, Please where can I register for this course in Enugu? Thanks |
Though the ATM is a form of stress reliever expecially in this clime where everybody is a lord at his or post. It has reduced the need to physically visit the bank with the attendant risk of armed robbers calling for their dol while you are there. I have not apply for ATM from my bank, what surprised me though is that I recently noticed the bank debiting me 100 naira monthly for ATM charges. Maybe I should sue them for corporate fraud, I believe this whole thing about dublicate card is all part of a systematic way of defrauding unsuspecting members of the public and believe me the 'Governor' know this . |
Lets have faith in the system. The so called minister is still a suspect and undergoing investigation by the SSS. It has not been proven that they misappropriated the fund for the competition. It is only after that, and the President wade in to clear him and others accused that you could pass invectives on Mr President. The fight against corruption is not only by pointing fingers and sitting down to do nothing. The presence of these so called THIEVES in our big events today still determine the success of such events, How can we blacklist them from showing off with thier illgotten wealth. If our artists refused to perform in occassions they attend, we refused to honour IV to thier children wedding, corruption will naturally find a new haven. We MUST act. ![]() |
