This innovative App is used offline. No need for expensive internet connection Finally, a solution to the massive failure inJSCEWAEC, SSCE, NECO & JAMB exams is here! Over the year, abysmal performances have been recorded in our SSCE and JAMB examinations.
Within the last 10 years, the rate of failure in SSCE exams has been between 60%-70%, with many failing to obtain credit pass in Mathematics and English Language. This is not encouraging, especially for parents that have made huge investment and sacrifice to provide for their education. The reason for this massive failure is not farfetched. Students have abandoned the reading culture of ?burning the mid-night oil?. They are now seriously distracted by TV, and their smart phones. It is very difficult to get them read their physical books. They rather prefer to play with their phones.
So, having an application that enables them to read on their mobile devices is not only timely, but will also help to improve their performance in JSCE, SSCE & JAMB exams
HOW THE SECONDARY SCHOOL E-LEARNING APPLICATION WORKS
The secondary school E-learning application comes in a preloaded 8G memory card which is installed on mobile devices, computers, e-libraries. The student who installs it then registers as its user. To start using the application, he opens it to watch video lectures. For this, the student just sits down and observes a real classroom atmosphere teaching on his mobile device. This does not need the internet to operate, so it does not place any extra financial burden upon the student. As the teachings go on, the student has total control of his time and learning speed, a powerful tool which he has no control of in the classroom, for fear of looking dumb, by asking his teacher to repeat or slow down to enable him understand a new concept.
He can pause the lecture when he wants. If he is sent on an errand, he can stop the lecture and won?t miss anything. He can repeat a line of instruction if he so wishes. He can pick the subjects he finds most difficult in classroom and repeat the video tutorials as many times as he wants. The power of this approach is that the student no longer sees teaching and learning as one boring classroom exercise, but an exciting educational game which absolute control he has.

Car Talk / Top 5 Cars For Amateur Drivers by Bmedels26(f): 7:14pm On Nov 04, 2017

Buying your first car is inevitably a daunting prospect. After all, there are literally 100s of makes, models and derivatives to chose from, seemingly complex insurance groups to navigate and a whole heap of ways to pay for it.

It likely all starts with the dilemma of whether you should buy used or factory fresh. The latter of which goes against everything you’re likely to expect when it comes to price.

we’ve compiled a list of the top five best cars for new drivers, Let’s kick things off with the aforementioned 3-door hatch.

Ford Fiesta

Consistently frequenting the UK’s top 10 best sellers list, the blue oval’s Fiesta sits just above the KA, but below the Focus.

The Fiesta boasts some low powered, low insurance grouped derivatives. Petrol power is where the cheapest options lie. Meanwhile, fuel economy for the aforementioned tops 66 miles per gallon.

In terms of drivability, it’s small, lightweight and incredibly easy, yet fun to drive.

Meanwhile, for younger drivers, it boasts Ford’s MyKey system which allows a parent or guardian to restrict things like maximum speed and audio volume. On top of that there’s a might seven airbags and optional auto brake for enhanced safety. All things considered, it’s contender for your first car.

Vauxhall Corsa

The Vauxhall Corsa is a popular choice for driving instructors and first time buyers alike. In addition, you might even go as far as to refer to it as the ‘cool’ option for the younger first timers. That shouldn’t, however, put older first time drivers of as it’s a great option regardless.

Just like the Fiesta, it’s small, lightweight and surprisingly fun. It’s also easy to park, given its compact form and great all round visibility.

The 89 bhp option is about the best for combined drivability, low insurance grouping and ongoing economy. However, there are a raft of alternative options on the derivative front, meaning those with a little more cash who want a little more punch won’t be disappointed.

Volkswagen Polo

Slotting between the VW up! and the iconic Golf, VW’s star of a supermini might not be the snazziest of the bunch, but it does have tons to offer for new drivers.

In terms of which derivative you should opt for, it all comes down to intended use. For example, if you’ll be using it for the long commute into work, paying the premium for the 1.4 TDI Diesel makes absolute sense as it achieves a whopping 80 miles per gallon plus. However, if your set on a Polo and money is your biggest driver, you’ll be looking at the 1.0 S 3dr Petrol which returns 60.1 miles per gallon combined.

Price and fuel economy aside, the Polo is small and nippy. It’s easy to drive too, and even easier to park, making it a great choice for any just passed driver.

Mini One

One of the great British classics, the Mini, has come a long way since it’s construction could be likened to a tin can on wheels. Nowadays, in Mini One form it’s a feature packed style icon on wheels.

However, that’s not what makes it a great car for new drivers, instead it’s a combination of its low insurance grouping, surprisingly affordable pricing and unexpectedly frugal running costs. The aforementioned being in reference to its 60.1 miles per gallon efficiency.

All of which gives you plenty of opportunity to experience the sheer joy that driving a Mini instantaneously brings. Meanwhile, on the parking front it’s an absolute ninja.

Hyundai i10

The i10 might not be the most aesthetically pleasing among this list, but hidden behind the grown-up sand somewhat alien like physique sits a surprisingly great car for new drivers.

The entry level 65bhp producing 1.0-litre petrol derivative is perhaps the best choice. Not simply because it’s the cheapest, but also thanks to its rev-happy nature. Being small, it’s also great to park and particulate excels in city centre environments.

All of this is of course matched by superb mechanical refinement and smile-worthy fuel economy.

Car Talk / Ford Shelby 1000 Mustang Is A Powerful Beast With A Thousand Horsepower by Bmedels26(f): 5:00pm On Nov 03, 2017

Back in 2012, Shelby American showed off a tuned Mustang it called the Shelby 1000. In street-legal form and running on pump gas, the car made at least 950 hp. If you ordered the track version and filled it with race gas, though, it made an insane 1100 hp. Five years later, the Shelby 1000 is back, but this time there’s no street-legal version. Instead, Shelby American built this car to be a dedicated track star.

Power:

Based on the pre-refreshed S550 Mustang GT, the Shelby 1000 makes a claimed 1,000 hp from a Whipple-supercharged 5.2-liter Aluminator V-8. The internal components have been swapped out, with a new 90-degree crank and modified cylinder heads from the GT350. It also gets other additions like a high flow fuel system, a new intercooler, upgraded transmission, and a modified ECU to help the engine handle that extra power.

Don’t think the Shelby 1000 is just about adding more power, though. The company says it’s modified the rest of the car to make sure it can corner just as well as it can accelerate.”We do far more than just add horsepower and cosmetics to the Shelby 1000,” said Vince LaViolette, Shelby American’s head of development. “We replace every major component to create the ultimate track machine. The result is a car that will slice through corners and blast down straights with amazing ease.”

Appearance-wise, it gets a redesigned front end, a new hood, modified fenders, and new rear-quarter panels. The car has also been widened in both the front and rear, not simply for looks but also for handling. Shelby also added an adjustable coil-over suspension, larger Brembo brakes, a diffuser and sports exhaust, and wider wheels and tires.

The 2012 through 2014 model year Shelby 1000 was based on the 5.8L Ford Shelby GT500, and while we significantly altered the suspension, it was best suited for the drag strip,” said Gary Patterson, head of Shelby American. “The new Shelby 1000 is an entirely different car designed to be the ultimate road course warrior.”

“Since Ford dropped the solid axle rear end, we had to take an entirely new approach,” said LaViolette. “Not only did we build strength into the car with components like heavy-duty half-shafts and CV joints, we revised the entire suspension by using tubular adjustable upper and lower control arms, as well as fully adjustable coilovers. We then added 10- and 12-inch [wide] forged wheels with sticky 20-inch rubber to maximize traction with this high level of power.”

Considering how much work goes into turning a Mustang GT into a Shelby 1000, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that they will be built in relatively limited numbers. But according to Shelby, it will be super limited, with only 50 being built per model year. The Shelby 1000 also costs a whopping$169,995, and that doesn’t include the cost of the Mustang GT you also have to buy to do the conversion. If you’re interested in ordering one, though, head to the company’s website for more information.

Car Talk / Super-craft: Check Out This Woody Inspired Super Car, Super Boat And Super Bike by Bmedels26(f): 4:45pm On Nov 03, 2017

Looking for the ultimate car, motorcycle, and hydrofoil combination? Do you dream of the days when manufacturers still used wood paneling? Then you might want to call up the design team at Gray Design. The Swedish firm has been dreaming up fantastic creations, everything from supercars to super yachts, for a number of years now – and their latest idea is something any super wealthy station wagon enthusiast should appreciate.

Dubbed the Hydra collection, the renderings pictured here include a Hydra concept car, a Hydrafoil boat, and a Hydros motorcycle. The three combine “technology, style, and speed” into a single luxurious package, with plenty of retro-inspired wood paneling to boot.

By sea, the 31-foot (9.5-meter) Hydrafoil concept is a luxurious high-speed hydrofoil boat that comes with a steerable front foil, allowing for adjustments of up to 32 times per second. Sleek auto-inspired styling, both inside and out, includes features like wrap-around limousine seats, multiple infotainment displays, and even a set of bespoke luggage – because luxury!

In the pilot house sits a massive 30-inch curved display that controls everything from navigation to power. And speaking of power, out back is a single 100-horsepower (74-kilowatt) electric motor that comes powered by a series of lithium ion batteries. The Hydrafoil has a top speed of 40 knots, and a range of 45 miles (72 kilometers) on a single charge.

By land, the Hydra concept car takes the term “Woody” to a whole new level. Dubbed the “Woody of tomorrow,” the sports car bears a striking semblance to the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision GT concept, albeit sans roof. The Hydra concept is powered by a new NEVS electrical drive system, which has been tuned to develop up to 450 hp (335 kW), allowing the vehicle to reach speeds of up to 133 mph (215 kmh).

Last but certainly not least, the Hydros electric motorcycle is a medium-sized in-house project that may actually be making its way to production. The prototype will use a powertrain borrowed from ZERO electric motorcycles, and once completed, will be custom-tailored to meet the upscale needs of the Gray Design clientele. Features like a premium audio system with a subwoofer, and midrange speakers built into the body will be added.

Apart from the Hydros motorcycle, the Hydra collection is merely just an exercise in design. Though, if we had the money, this would make the perfect trio for cruising around Monaco… or the parking lot at Wally World.

Car Talk / Ford Earth Roamer Is A Mansion On Wheels It’s Worth Over A Million Dollars by Bmedels26(f): 10:08am On Nov 03, 2017

Overlanding can be a blast, but not everyone likes sleeping in the back of a 60 series Toyota Land Cruiser, packed in like a sardine with dog, a cooler, a portable welder and just about anything else that can’t be strapped or mounted to the exterior. For those with enough cash, there are far more sophisticated options. Sometimes you go big or you go home, or at least that seems to be the case with the new Earthroamer XV-HD, a rolling fortress that, from the outside, looks more suited to Siberian military campaigns than a weekend away off the trail.

The XV-HD is the latest product from Earthroamer, a company whose name sounds like a certain British luxury SUV maker’s beefed-up brother. The company has been building vehicles since 1998, with more than 200 Ford F-550 XV-LTS behemoths terrorizing your local RV park. The XV-HD steps things up, using a four-wheel-drive F-750 as the base platform. Power comes from Ford’s tried and true 6.7-liter Power stroke diesel V8. Earthroamer doesn’t mention which version it uses, but for 2017 the engine makes 440 horsepower and 925 pound-feet of torque.

Beyond that, nearly everything has been touched and upgraded. The XV-HD wears 46-inch Michelin XZL tires, packs rear air suspension with Fox shocks, hydraulic leveling, 30,000-pound front-mounted hydraulic Warn winch and a full LED light array from Baja Designs. The XV-HD is intended to survive independently for a while, so it also has 2,100 watts of solar capability, a 20,000-watt lithium-ion battery bank, a PTO-driven hydraulic generator, a 250-gallon water tank and a 115-gallon fuel tank.

Still, this isn’t just about being rugged. Look inside and you’ll find plenty of wood, leather and stainless steel. The XV-HD comes with a full kitchen, a full bathroom with a separate shower, a washer and dryer, heated floors and a Bose surround sound system. The photos don’t show the sleeping cabin, but we imagine it’s much more of the same.

Now, this isn’t cheap. Not by a long shot. The Colorado-built machines cost a cool $1.5 million each and require a $375,000 deposit to reserve a spot. If you put an order in now, you should get it in time to take a long vacation after the 2018 midterm elections

Car Talk / Ford Introduces The Drift Stick Performance E-brake For The Focus RS by Bmedels26(f): 11:02am On Nov 02, 2017

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-SHQw8G5SE

Ford Performance just pulled the wraps off of a little SEMA surprise for Focus RS owners: the Drift Stick, a rally-style aluminum handbrake that slips over the existing handbrake. It doesn’t just look cool, because a micro-switch inside talks to the RS’s electronics and lets you do some big e-brake slides, just as if the car was equipped with the kind of hydraulic handbrake system you’d get in a rally car.

Let’s back up for a second and talk about the Focus RS’s Drift Mode, a clever bit of programming that tells the AWD and torque vectoring systems to play nice with the stability control, allowing you to swing the RS around in big, smoky drifts. It’s not quite ready for Formula D, but it’s a fairly safe way to have some fun under controlled conditions – and unlike a completely analog drift machine, it’ll attempt to save your butt if you muck it up.

Where the Drift Stick comes in is if you want to do a rally-style handbrake turn, as opposed to a smoky Drift Mode drift. When you pull the Drift Stick, the electronics inside tell the ABS system and rear differential clutches to allow for the rear brakes to lock the wheels, letting the car rotate without having to hold in the clutch pedal. It lets you do very quick, wide-angle turns without the extensive modifications (and expense) of installing a hydraulic system, so it’s perfect for rotating around a lightpole or a guy in a gorilla suit.

If that tips you off that Ken Block was involved, well, of course he was. This is the perfect thing for him to be involved with, and vice versa.

Installation seems easy. Clamp it over the existing handbrake, bolt a rod to your inboard front seat mount, and plug in the cord into the diagnostic port. That’s it. Easily reversible. And here’s a neat bonus: since it talks to the OBD system, there’s a USB port on the Drift Stick. Plug a cable into that and it acts just like Ford’s diagnostic tool. That means you can download diagnostic data, and more interestingly, upload different tunes. Installing the Drift Stick itself won’t void your warranty, either.

The Drift Stick goes on sale Dec. 1, and it’ll set you back $999. If you want one, head to your local Ford Performance distributor or get one online.

Car Talk / Osama Bin-laden’s Family Airplane Crashes Into Car Auction by Bmedels26(f): 10:37am On Nov 02, 2017

Three members of Osama Bin Laden’s family and a pilot died from the “effects of fire” when a jet plane crashed, preliminary post-mortem tests have found.

Bin Laden’s half-sister, Sana Mohammed Bin Laden, her mother, Raja Bashir Hashim, and his brother-in-law, Zuhair Hashim died in the crash on Friday.

The jet’s pilot, Jordanian Mazen Al-Aqeel Da’jah Salem, was also killed.

An inquest into the deaths was opened and adjourned earlier.

The Saudi Arabian embassy said it was working with the British authorities to repatriate the bodies.

The Saudi-registered Phenom 300 private jet was attempting to land at Blackbushe Airport when it crashed on to dozens of cars and burst into flames killing all on board.

The airport reopened on Monday after it was shut over the weekend to allow for investigations.

Police are carrying out a joint investigation with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch

The Bin Laden family tree

Osama Bin Laden’s father Mohammed was originally from Yemen and moved to Saudi Arabia in the 1910s
He became the head of a construction empire that is behind some of the biggest building projects in Saudi Arabia
Mohammed Bin Laden, who died in a plane crash in 1968, had many wives, and is estimated to have had at least 50 children
His eldest son, Salem Bin Laden, also died in a plane crash in Texas in 1988
The Bin Laden family – many of whom live in the US – severed ties with Osama before disowning him after the 11 September attacks

Car Talk / BOSSES ONLY: Check Out The $1million Mercedes That’s Like An Armored Private Jet by Bmedels26(f): 10:19am On Nov 02, 2017

The Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG is one of the most powerful, rugged, and luxurious off-roaders to ever hit the market.

For the vast majority of the G-Wagon’s clients, the battle-tested Benz is way more truck than they will ever need.

However, for certain customers, there’s a need for extra layers of protection. That’s where the armored-vehicle specialists at Inkas Group come into play. These guys know how to built a literally bulletproof set of wheels

For a cool million bucks, the Toronto-based firm will gladly build a customized, armored limousine that will make even the most paranoid despot or celebrity feel secure.

POWER:

Power comes from a 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 that serves up 537bhp that should be sufficient to keep this behemoth rolling at respectable speeds despite the huge weight gain because of the armouring.

Car Talk / Iconic Rolex Motorsports Wristwatch Sold For 6.3 Billion Naira by Bmedels26(f): 6:09pm On Nov 01, 2017

An iconic Rolex motorsports wristwatch made famous by appearing on the wrist of Paul Newman in the 1969 auto-racing film “Winning” and in countless subsequent photographs of the Hollywood star and race car driver has sold at a Phillips auction in New York for a whopping $17,752,500. It sold after 12 minutes of bidding to a buyer on the phone, setting a new record for the highest price ever fetched for a wristwatch.

The 37-millimeter, stainless steel Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, reference No. 6239, features a crocodile “Bund-style” strap with an off-white dial and tachymeter bezel. It dates from 1968 and was fitted with an “exotic” dial design and inscribed with the phrase “Drive Carefully Me.” The watch was a gift from Newman’s wife, Joanne Woodward, as his passion for motorsports was growing, and the inscription may stem from Newman’s injury in a motorcycle accident in 1965. The auction sale also included the original copy of a provenance attestation letter signed by (Elinor) Nell Newman, the actor’s daughter, and a framed photograph of a treehouse on Newman and Woodward’s “Nook House” property in Westport, Conn., which factors into the story of how the timepiece arrived at auction.

Car Talk / See Amazon Drones That Can Recharge Your Electric Car… While You’re Driving by Bmedels26(f): 8:01pm On Oct 31, 2017

In what would be a staggering development for electric vehicle mobility, Amazon is proposing drones that can recharge electric cars even while they’re being driven[/i]

Being able to recharge an electric car while it’s still driving is the holy grail of future mobility. You could, theoretically, drive as far as you wanted even into areas where there are no charging stations.

Obviously it’s not that simple, but Amazon has been granted a patent for a drone that can dock with a specially-equipped car and dump a fresh battery-load of electricity into its metaphorical tank. Clever.

Car makers and suppliers are working hard on new battery technologies, like solid state, which would allow a drone to carry vastly more mileage to waiting cars, owing to higher energy densities and lower weight.

In this amazing future we’re talking about, when you order a recharge drone, presumably via your car’s Internet-connected Amazon link, it shows up at a specific rendezvous point and then identifies your car as it passes, before catching it up, enacting its mating ritual with your roof, after which you simply watch your driving range climb back up on your instrument cluster, if we have such things by the time this drone tech arrives.

The patent has sparked speculation that Amazon could be planning its own car, with which the drone would be designed to interface. It would give the car a crucial advantage over even long-range electric cars like Teslas. It wouldn’t be cheap, but for loaded business types, this really could be a technology worth paying for.

The initial push gets the SSC up to speed before the rocket boosters kick in, which will bring the car, hopefully, up to 1,000 mph when it runs on a dry lake bed in South Africa in 2020.

Royal Air Force Wing Cmdr. Andy Green was behind the wheel during the two 1.7-mile runs down Newquay Airport’s runway. Both went off without a hitch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krcLNgLcF9Q

“It was a real hard workout for the brakes,” said Green. “Probably up to somewhere close to a thousand degrees, the front brakes were smoking furiously after the second run. They just started to flicker with flame — very sort of Formula 1, but in a proper high-speed car. And that was exactly what we were hoping for.”

The BBC explained that at 400 mph, the tires can’t spin as fast as the car is going, and “act more like rudders on a boat.” Comforting. At 650 mph, “some of the airflows over Bloodhound’s body would approach the sound barrier.”

It should be able to hit 800 mph in 2019, before it goes for the four-figure mark in 2020. The current land speed record is 763 mph.

This video just out on YouTube is a great example of the dangers of working around machinery. Fortunately, the worker who stars in the video seems to have lived to tell about it, so it’s probably OK to watch this and laugh — and be glad it wasn’t you.

There’s no real information with the video, so we don’t know who the worker is, or the location. And at first glance, you’d think this was a setup by someone hoping their video will go viral. There’s still a chance that’s true, but if you watch what happens before the worker becomes a ballet star, it does seem like perhaps his predicament was real.

It appears that the pressure hose he was using got tangled in the brushes, and he got pulled in. Lucky for him, it wasn’t a device with deadly consequences like a power takeoff shaft or a corn auger, yet you do have to wonder how tightly he got lashed to the machinery.

Car Talk / England’s Oldest Surviving Motorcar That Could Be Sold For £250,000 by Bmedels26(f): 8:36am On Oct 27, 2017

British auction house Bonhams is set to sell what’s believed to be the oldest surviving British motorcar: an 1894 Santler Dogcart with a varnished wooden body, angle-iron platform with full-elliptic front and rear suspension, and a belt-based transmission turning bicycle tires. The car, which also features foot- and hand-operated brakes, is expected to fetch up to £250,000, or $330,000.

The Santler was built between 1889 and 1922 in Malvern Link, Worcestershire, England by brothers Charles and Walter Santler, who inherited their father’s engineering company and initially focused on making bicycles. The earliest version of the Santler was a roughly 4-foot wide two-seater powered by a vertical steam boiler; it was abandoned due to an 1865 British law that required a minimum of three crew members for any mechanical vehicle. A successive version ran on compressed coal gas, which failed due to low power output and limited range.

The Santler on auction was reportedly re-discovered in the 1930s and survived World War II undamaged (the same cannot be said for much of the paperwork about the car, unfortunately). It was painstakingly restored during the 1950s and fitted with a single-cylinder, water-cooled 3.5-horsepower Benz engine. Its original manufacturing date has been verified by the Veteran Car Club, though the registration mark was originally issued to a 1901 Santler car.

Christie’s sold the same car in 2001 for £146,750. Bidding takes place Nov. 3 in London. It comes with pre-arranged entry to the London-Brighton Run of veteran cars, which starts the same day

Car Talk / Check Out This New Yamaha Three-wheeler Beast Of A Machine by Bmedels26(f): 5:50pm On Oct 26, 2017

YAMAHA has just revealed this surprise new 2018 model, a large-capacity, three-cylinder, leaning three-wheeler called the ‘Niken’.

Little has been revealed in the way of details but it is almost certainly the production version of the very similar-looking MT-09-powered three-wheeler concept shown three years ago, then called the MWT-09.

That means the three-cylinder engine in question is the 847cc one from the MT-09. The close-up shot of an engine cover is a giveaway, featuring the digits ‘CP3’, the name given to the MT-09 plant.

The Niken was revealed early this morning at Japan’s Tokyo Motor Show, also the venue for the debut of the MWT-09 concept in 2015.

Full details are to be revealed in Milan, Italy, on November 6.

Yamaha’s press release on the Niken said: ‘This large-displacement Leaning Multi-Wheeler (LMW) is powered by a liquid-cooled, in-line, three-cylinder engine. This model is equipped with LMW technology to reduce the effects of changing ride environments and to deliver a high feeling of stability when cornering. It achieves excellent performance for spirited and sporty riding on various road surfaces and the capability to freely carve through the continuous corners on winding roads. The body design makes full use of the unprecedented front-end suspension mechanism, pairing 15-inch front wheels with dual-tube upside-down forks that visually accentuate the machine’s sporty performance and create a high-quality look and feel at the same time. New Yamaha NIKEN. Ride the Revolution.’

Yamaha also released the following limited specifications:

Length x Width x Height = 2,150 mm x 885 mm x 1,250 mm

Engine type = Liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valve

Cylinder arrangement = In-line, 3-cylinder

Fuel supply system = Fuel injection

Car Talk / Pair Of Toyota Concepts Aim To Improve Mobility For Elderly And Disabled Drivers by Bmedels26(f): 6:03pm On Oct 23, 2017

Toyota imagines a pair of mobility “support vehicle” solutions for the elderly and disabled.

Toyota unveiled the first Concept-i car at the CES technology show in January. It runs an artificial-intelligence system that communicates with the driver by “stimulating the five senses.” It reads moods and engages in two-way conversations, records them with GPS tags, and uploads everything to a data cloud, not unlike what Apple, Google, and Microsoft do with their voice assistants. This is supposedly so that the car can take control when a driver becomes stressed or ill, or perhaps so it can suggest new roads when a driver is eager for a change of scene.

For the Tokyo auto show, the Concept-i teams up with two small support vehicles, the Ride and the Walk, both of which share a more altruistic purpose of helping the disabled and elderly stay mobile. The two-seat Concept-i Ride is a polished little pebble that’s nearly two feet shorter than Toyota’s iQ microcar. At 98.4 inches, it’s half a foot longer than the Nissan New Mobility Concept, a comically tiny thing in which we zipped around in Manhattan. An EV, the Ride has a projected range of 62 to 93 miles. Its biggest benefit is that hand controls replace the pedals and the steering wheel. The gullwing doors make entering the car easy, and the central front seat slides left or right, depending on which door is opened. Despite its name, the Ride is fully drivable. Automated parking, a self-parking valet feature, and the usual autonomous functions can take over driving tasks entirely, but only when the driver—a keyword Toyota uses repeatedly—chooses to do so. The Ride has loading space for a folded wheelchair, and there’s a fold-out passenger seat on the left side.

When the Ride is too large for the final portion of a journey, it’s time to break out the Toyota Concept-i Walk. Unlike the gyroscopic Segway, which requires riders to lean every which way, Toyota mixes a conventional trike layout with an extendable wheelbase. Standing still, the Walk needs only the walking space of an average adult to make a complete turn. At higher speeds, the Walk spaces its rear wheels further from the front wheel for a more stable ride, varying the overall length from 19.7 to 27.6 inches. The Walk is also designed to be actively driven, although after a warning it will automatically intervene to avoid sidewalk collisions.

All three Concept-i vehicles use what Toyota calls AI Agent, an always-listening, all-knowing system that attempts to gauge human emotions. The outcome isn’t just to amass “big data,” as Toyota explicitly states, but to “enrich the enjoyment of moving” and “deliver fresh experiences.” By 2020, Toyota will start testing some of these features in Japan. After that, it may only be a few more years until an autonomous Camry picks us up from the grocery store, knowing every item in our bags. More than a car, it will be our best friend. We hope.

Car Talk / Charming Photos Of The New Rolls-royce Phantom VIII by Bmedels26(f): 9:31am On Oct 18, 2017

Goodwood-based fine luxury maker Rolls-Royce unveiled this year a refresh to their most iconic car to date. The Phantom VIII is the latest and greatest …

Goodwood-based fine luxury maker Rolls-Royce unveiled this year a refresh to their most iconic car to date. The Phantom VIII is the latest and greatest ultra luxurious limousine to arrive in the last 14 years and is quite possibly the most impressive luxury car the world has ever seen. From the outside, you might think that Rolls phoned this design in, at first glance. Just at a quick glance, it doesn’t seem all that different from the car it replaces. However, a closer look reveals that Rolls Royce actually upgraded a changed the Phantom’s looks in almost every single way, subtly and tastefully.

From the front, you can see how much sharper and how much more angular the new Phantom VIII is. The way the fenders come all the way out to the front end of the car, and make a right angle straight down, is far more pronounced. It’s actually refreshing to see how boxy the front end is, it’s all right angles and sharp edges. It’s refreshing in this modern day of funky shapes and architectures. While the first-gen Phantom’s headlights look sort of tacked on, these new ones look set deeper in the fascia and ringed in LEDs. Its grille is also now much larger and sort of built into the body work, which looks better.

Down the side, the new Phantom VIII looks much better. In profile, the old Phantom always looked good but somewhat odd and a bit frumpy. The new car looks far smoother, more streamlined and seems to be better proportioned.
It’s on the inside where the Phantom VIII really sets itself apart. While, again, the overall design and shape of the new cabin isn’t that much different from the one it replaces, the devil’s in the details. It seems as if Rolls Royce told its interior designers to go out and design the most elaborate, gorgeous and expensive pieces of automotive trim. Rolls-Royce encased the entire width of the dash in an uninterrupted swathe of toughened glass. Within this, there is an LED backlit 12.3 TFT instrument display and on the passenger side, space to display art beneath this glass. Even though the overall shape and design of the cabin seems so similar to the last-gen Phantom, this new one looks so incredibly premium.

The new Rolls Royce Phantom

comes with Alertness Assistant, a 4 camera system with Panoramic View, all-round visibility including helicopter view, Night Vision and Vision Assist, Active Cruise Control, collision warning, pedestrian warning, cross-traffic warning, lane departure and lane change warning, an industry leading 7×3 High-resolution head-up display, WiFi hotspot, and of course the latest navigation and entertainment systems.

The eighth Phantom since its introduction in 1925 will go on sale early next year.

Car Talk / Toyota To Test Talking, Self-driving Concept-i Car In The Year 2020 by Bmedels26(f): 9:59am On Oct 17, 2017

Toyota on Monday said it would begin testing self-driving electric cars around 2020, which will use artificial intelligence (AI) to engage with drivers, as the company competes with tech firms to develop new vehicles.

The car, whose concept model was unveiled earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, will be able to converse with drivers, while building up knowledge of users’ preferences, habits and emotions through deep learning, the company said.

“By using AI technology, we want to expand and enhance the driving experience, making cars an object of affection again,” said Makoto Okabe, general manager of Toyota’s EV business planning division.

Facing competition from rival automakers and tech companies to produce self-driving, intelligent cars, Toyota has committed $1 billion through 2020 to develop advanced automated driving and AI technology.

The Concept-i model, a battery-electric car which will have a cruising range of 300 kilometers (180 miles) on a single charge, will be able to estimate the emotions and alertness of drivers by reading their expressions, actions and tone of voice.

Using this information, the vehicle will be able to take over driving responsibilities when necessary — after assessing the driver is too tired to drive safely, for example — and also interact with the driver and passengers.

Facing a future where car ownership may be overtaken by new mobility services, automakers are ramping up investment to develop AI capabilities to enhance the driving experience.

Ford Motor Co. earlier this year invested $1 billion in Argo AI, a start-up set up by former employees of Uber Technologies’ self-driving car development team, to develop an on-demand self-driving car service. General Motors has also been investing in AI startups.

Honda and Softbank Corp announced last year that they were teaming up to use humanoid robotic technology in cars to enable them to communicate with drivers.

Car Talk / Ferrari Boss Confirms Planned SUV by Bmedels26(f): 9:41am On Oct 16, 2017

A Ferrari SUV has been rumored for years, but executives have consistently either flatly denied these rumors, stating “a Ferrari-branded SUV would never be built,” or “no comment.” That has changed, recently with Ferrari boss and cardigan-enthusiast Sergio Marchionne telling Bloomberg that the company is “dead serious about [an SUV].”

Many have posited, including Ferrari’s former CEO Luca Di Montezemolo, that a Ferrari-branded SUV would likely dilute the brand. When Di Montezemolo resigned in 2014, he joked at his last press conference by saying, “Marchionne wanted to build a [Ferrari] truck, but I talked him out of it.” However, since Di Montezemolo’s departure, the idea of a Ferrari SUV—and higher production volumes—has apparently been pushed forward and solidified.

As for what the Ferrari SUV will look like, that’s very much yet to be determined. Some in the industry have posited that the Ferrari SUV could take the form of a heavily modified and lifted GTC4 Lusso. To our eyes, this makes the most sense given that the Lusso is already built around a four-seat, all-wheel drive system—the latter being Ferrari’s first.

Other possibilities include borrowing hardware from Fiat Chrysler’s SUV portfolio, although we’re hesitant to believe this theory given that most potential buyers likely wouldn’t be thrilled to see parts from a Jeep or Dodge.

Powertrain possibilities include the Portofino’s twin-turbocharged V-8, or the rumored twin-turbocharged V-6 said to inhabit the engine bay of the unconfirmed Ferrari Dino.

According to Marchionne, the final direction the SUV will take will be decided within the next 30 months, so we have some time before it enters production. In the meantime, Ferrari is set to present a new five-year plan in the first quarter of next year, which is supposed to include the brand’s goal for higher production volumes, as well as the aforementioned SUV.

We’re still not sure a Ferrari SUV will work in bringing the brand to new height, but due to the success of the Porsche Cayenne, the Bentley Bentayga, as well as upcoming contenders like the Lamborghini Urus and Rolls-Royce Cullinan, we understand the reasoning behind Ferrari’s decision.

Car Talk / Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Bmedels26(f): 9:33am On Oct 16, 2017
Check out the Upcoming Infiniti Qx80

At the New York Auto Show earlier this year, Infiniti showed off the QX80 Monograph, a full-size luxury SUV concept that the Japanese automaker said “illustrates how the design of Infiniti’s QX80 could evolve.” At the Dubai Motor Show next month, we’ll get to see how closely the production design sticks to the concept. But today, Infiniti gave us our first glimpse at the face of its new flagship SUV.

Based on what we can see here, it looks like the current QX60 was more of an inspiration than the Monograph concept.Neither the slim headlights nor the chunky grille made the cut. Instead, Infiniti chose a look that’s much more in line with production models like the QX60 and QX30. About the front-end design cues still present are in the lower half of the fascia. Of course, since we can’teven see the A-pillar, there could still be more Monograph-inspired styling in the rest of the vehicle.

But no matter how it looks, don’t expect the QX80 to be an all-new SUV.Roland Krueger, the head of Infiniti, told us at the show that it will still use the platform from the Nissan Patrol that dates back to 2011. It’ll also use the same 5.6-liter V-8 and seven-speed automatic transmission. Infiniti may add a smaller engine option, though, perhaps adding a turbocharged V-6 to the lineup
