Sports / Re: Stephen Ugboo Goes Blind, Begs In Enugu Street To Feed [VIDEO] by bobbyade(m): 3:53pm On Sep 02, 2021
tyokunbo:
Did Steve Ogboo win a gold medal at the 1974 commonwealth games? I'm an avid boxing fan for the past forty years. In the 1974 Commonwealth Games, Nigeria had only three gold medalists in boxing - Obisia Nwankpa and Eddie Ndukwu, had only one silver medalist, Fatai Ayinla, and two bronze medalists, Isaac Ikhouria and Saliu Ishola. On learning about Steve, I was confused, because it was a completely new name. I couldn't recollect hearing about him, so I opened the website containing the information about the 1974 games. Unfortunately, Steve's name wasn't there. Here is a link to the website: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1974_British_Commonwealth_Games. So where did Steve win his boxing medal?

His name does not even feature in the World Amateur Boxing championship held in Havana Cuba that year,

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1974_World_Amateur_Boxing_Championships

Maybe it was some other invitational tournament that he won. Definitely not the Commonwealth games.

Crime / Re: Eniola Aluko Shot Dead In London by bobbyade(m): 1:50am On Jun 17, 2019
Eniola is Sone Aluko’s Sister. Their Dad is Senator Gbenga Aluko Who was a senator under Pdp years back. They grew up in Birmingham.

The problem with the new level of violent crime is that it's new. Worse, the unpredictability of a violent attack worsens things. It's as though almost any black youth in some certain areas is game. Could my child be next?

Worse, the police are afraid of applying maximum force lest they are termed racist since most knife violence is basically black on black. The same with rape among the Pakistani community.

Those communities most affected must welcome the police with open hands and assist them in dealing head on with these vices.

Politics / Re: Victoria Obaze Becomes Mayor In UK by bobbyade(m): 12:29pm On May 16, 2019
manchy7531:
[b]Another Nigerian Victoria Obaze becomes Mayor in uk
she is not the 1st black mayor, neither is Mr ezeajughi. the first black mayor was Mrs Janet Adegoke. check this list 1987

https://www.lbhf.gov.uk/councillors-and-democracy/about-hammersmith-fulham-council/mayors-office/list-mayors

Mrs Victoria Obaze, a Nigerian from Imo State made history on Wednesday after she was sworn into office as the first black female Civic Mayor of London Borough of Tower Hamlets, United Kingdom (UK).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Obaze’s inauguration on Wednesday is the latest in turn of events that have seen Nigerians emerge as Mayors in their area councils of residence in the UK.

It will be recalled that Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, and Mrs Kate Anorue, both from Anambra State, were recently sworn into office as Mayors of London Borough of Brent and Enfield, respectively.

Obaze who contested three previous councillorship elections in 2010, 2014 as well as 2016 and failed, eventually succeeded in an election conducted on May 5, 2018 in Whitechapel Ward.

She later became the Council’s Deputy Speaker following her nomination by her Councillor Colleagues from where she took over the mantle as Mayor of London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

A statement containing brief history of Obaze obtained by NAN from her close associate and UK Chapter Coordinator, Ugonwanne Social Club Nigeria Int’l, a Nigerian socio-cultural group in UK, Ms Blessing Chijekwu, revealed that the newly sworn-in Mayor had lived in Borough for over 30 years.

“For Councillor (Cllr) Obaze life is all about service to humanity with diligence. Her political experience started when she was elected as one of the board of directors to oversee the regeneration of her area, the Ocean Estate, in the 1980s.

“The move motivated her to get into politics having noticed that there were no black women in the council chambers and this led her to open a project named Healthy Life Style for Stepney Women, East London.

“The project was funded by local authority through Ocean African Caribbean Association which she and her late husband Chief Evangelist Charles Obaze, co-founded.

“She also established Ocean Saturday School aimed at ensuring school attainment for children, as well as Ocean Football Club through which young boys were able to have residential football experiences with Chelsea football Club.

“Above all, Cllr Obaze loves God with a passion; she is a member of Parochial Church Council (PCC), as well as an Executive Council member at St Dunstan’s Church of England Parish in Stepney.

“She is also a Secondary School governor in Tower Hamlets and a habitual visitor to the elderly and physically challenged in the community,” the statement quoted Chijekwu as saying.

The statement also quoted Lolo Ngozi Nwanze, President, Ugonwanne Social Club Nigeria Int’l as saying that Obaze was chosen as life matron of the club because of her meekness and morality.

“These are the virtues that have brought her to where she (Obaze) is today.”

Obaze who has four children and two grand Children attended West London College and Metropolitan University where she studied Business Administration and Community Sector Management at different times.

She also has certification in childcare which enabled her operate a registered charitable childcare centre in UK named Vicharles Play Centre. (NAN)

Sports / Re: How Dundee United Became A Slang For Fools by bobbyade(m): 9:59pm On Apr 14, 2019
Even the then low rated Leventis of Lagos (Iddo Tigers) not it’s latter day leventis United Of Ibadan beat them silly. They were just running around like headless chickens. Leventis goalkeeper a chap called Van Ess even dribbled out of goal a few times. They were that humiliated. So that was how looking mumu like Dundee United came to be. Mind you there is another club called Dundee in Scotland that are probably a bit better than Dundee United but the fact remains that both of them are Dundees meaning ‘Mumu’ in Naija parlance.

This is not just Polaris problem, since Friday money from two different people and banks were sent to me, till now av not received value for it, money came in from diamond and gtbank but the senders were debited and I av not being credited, since Friday till now I have called the bank over 8 times, same story.

Seems most of the banks are now plagued with ‘issues’. The Central Bank needs to carry out an audit pronto before people lose their hard-earned savings again. Wonder what the directors are doing with depositors’ funds ?

Not allowed to come to her daughter’s wedding?

That’s not possible.
She’s British. If she prepared a divorce, there are certain terms that the divorce courts will make both parties sign. One is access to their kids.
Renege on it and the British legal system will show you why it is one of the best in the world. Pastor Chris is not stupid.

The children were adults - 18+ when they divorced. The British courts would not dabble into access as the children can take their own decisions at that age. They only settle their financial affairs vide the court's guidance cum orders.

STORY OF DELE ALAMPASU,THE GOLDEN EAGLETS KEEPER WHO WAS ONCE A PURE-WATER SELLER

Dele AlampasuDele AlampasuDele Alampasu, the 16yr old Golden Eaglet keeper rose above his critics to deliver an immeasurable performance at the just concluded FIFA U-17 World cup where he emerged the golden glove winner for conceding just 5goals and delivering quite a number of saves particularly in the final against Mexico.
Dele initially faced enough criticism for his poor performance against Sweden where he conceded 3 cheap goals which were directly his faults. He was dubbed the weakest link in the already promising Golden Eaglet squad but went on to keep 4 clean sheets and conceded just 1 goal in the remaining fixtures. He’s indeed a starlet and a role model.
The Nigerian born Keeper of Togolese decent (Parents are said to be immigrants from Togo according to a reliable source) was a young lad who sells pure-water around Ogba area in Lagos. According to our source, Dele lived the life of every struggling Nigerian on the streets. He sells pure water after school for his parents and whenever he can, he joins up with some boys who play street football. His road to success began when he was playing his street soccer before he was snapped up to an academy. His performance was then rewarded as he was selected to be the first choice goalie for the Golden Eaglets.
The source also said so many of the players were from average or struggling homes who played football on the streets. He singled out another player Obasi as someone he’s played with at a place called kara, a local surburb just around the Ogun river bridge. he was excited how their perseverance had brought about success.
What an inspiring story. Who would think a pure water seller would become a hero today. We’re proud of Dele and the Eaglets. All thanks to coach Manu Garba and his crew who narrowed their search to the grassroot academies, something that has been lacking for years as players were picked on merit.
Their performance was superb that the world wondered if Africans really had such World beaters. History was made! four World cup trophies, a feat Brazil is yet to match or England the founders of football. Now the world celebrate promising stars like Kelechi Iheanaho, Musa Yahaya, Musa Muhammad, Dele Alampasu, and the rest.
We say congrats once again to the GOLDEN Eaglets for truly standing by their name and bringing us back the GOLD medal and lest we forget, Congrats to coach Manu Garba, he was an outstanding figure as well.
