The problem with Labor is that they didn't stay neutral in the last election. It is difficult for a lot of people to believe they are not doing whatever they are doing for political reasons instead of the welfare of the people in the union. It is a weird place they put and have now found themselves
Mynd44, stop making this kind of comment; you are a moderator, for goodness sake.

If NLC had supported Tinubu, would you be making this kind of comment?

Oh! Because they supported Peter Obi, a presidential candidate of the Labour Party, a party owned by the NLC. It has become taboo for you and your tribalistic crew.

Let me ask you: Are members of labour unions not Nigerians?

Are they not affected by Tinubu's calamitous economic policies?

Is this the first time the NLC has shown their support for a particular candidate? Why is the 2023 election different?

Have you not seen NLC state bodies throwing their support to a governor? Probably because the governor is paying workers salaries regularly and probably increasing workers salaries and benefits.

Imagine! They are even threatening their own daughter. They just wanted Nigeria to collapse because Asiwaju is the president.

“I keep receiving toxic calls and messages regarding my meeting with the president yesterday, and from those I hold in very high esteem. Honestly, I am shocked at the contents of the messages and tone of the callers. Has Nigeria sank this low? A visit I made for the good of our dear nation is what they are using to threaten my life and family! You don’t recognise someone as your president yet begging him to save you from the hands of killers in your region.
I am bringing investors to Nigeria using the president’s commendable policies as a bait. Is that too difficult to understand? President Tinubu’s reforms might be harsh now but they would birth a new and prosperous nation. I have lost count of presidents, respected Institutions and investors that have called to congratulate me on Nigeria eventually having a focused leader since the reforms were rolled out. At least, six multi national manufacturing giants are coming with me by December later this year to see how their firms can have factories here. It’s all part of my contributions to the progress of Nigeria. I am not a politician. I only desire the best for my dear country. It informed my visit to president Tinubu. The world has accepted him as our president, like it or not. May God heal us”

PoliticsGov Alia Accuses APC Chairman, Agada Of Invading Benue With Gunmen by Bobloco(op): 3:25am On Mar 02, 2024
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has accused the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Austin Agada and Executive Director, Finance and Accounts at Federal Housing Authority FHA, Matthias Byuan, of hiring armed men and thugs to destabilise the state.

The armed men who accompanied Agada and Byuan reportedly made their way into the heart of the town in a convoy and started shooting sporadically when they got to Tito Gate, Kashim Ibrahim road, Makurdi.

The duo were said to have led the armed men round parts of the old GRA and were headed to property number 75, J S Tarka Way, said to be owned by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, when operatives of the Nigerian Police arrived and began to engage them, before they disappeared.

This was contained in a statement made available to journalists in Makurdi on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula.

The statement read: “Recall that Governor Hyacinth Alia had banned all political and social gatherings in the state till further notice.

“These directives were later publicly communicated to the public through the Commissioner of Police, Benue State command who approved enforcement and equally asked the organizers to call off their meetings.

“The government is worried that some people are still in the habit of insisting to derail the relative peace in the state and hinder development that Gov. Alia is bringing home.

“The security atmosphere in Benue State is only gradually returning to calm after it was charged recently following the unprecedented influx of armed herders who were brought in by enemies of the state to destabilize the government.

“We urge Benue people to be security conscious and immediately report activities of these fifth columnists as we call on security agencies to arrest these merchants of crisis and bring them to book to serve as a deterrent to others.”

PoliticsNLC to Tinubu: Leave politicking, address hunger, unemployment facing Nigerians by Bobloco(op):
The pervasive hunger, unemployment, housing insecurity, and escalating costs of basic necessities such as food and healthcare demand immediate attention and decisive action.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has accused President Bola Tinubu of playing politics while millions of Nigerians suffer from hunger and insecurity due to government policies.

The NLC, the largest amalgamation of labour unions in Nigeria, also said it is troubled by President Bola Tinubu’s recent statement that the labour union lacks the moral ground to challenge his government since it openly supported an opposition presidential candidate in last year’s election. The president suggested that the NLC should instead focus on preparing for the 2027 election.

“President Tinubu’s insinuation that Labour lacks the moral ground to challenge his administration, merely nine months into office, is deeply troubling,” the NLC wrote in a statement by its president, Joe Ajaero.

“Moreover, his focus on partisan issues and the distant 2027 election cycle, rather than the urgent needs of the populace, further underscores a disconnect from the realities faced by Nigerians on a daily basis.

“The pervasive hunger, unemployment, housing insecurity, and escalating costs of basic necessities such as food and healthcare demand immediate attention and decisive action.”

Mr Tinubu’s criticism of the labour union follows its insistence on embarking on a nationwide protest despite the government’s pleas.

The NLC’s nationwide rallies on Tuesday were to protest the alleged failure of the government to implement agreements it had with the labour union following last year’s removal of subsidy on petrol which has led to a huge increase in the prices of goods and services across the country.

In his Friday statement, Mr Ajaero insisted that the federal government was yet to implement most of the agreements it had with the labour movement.

“In any case, to avoid the dissipation of energy, it is important that we focus on the real issues because we have engaged the government since June 2023 after the subsidy is gone statement. The issues are around the non-implementation of agreements reached between us and the government,” Mr Ajaero wrote before listing some of the agreements reached.

Read Mr Ajaero’s full statement below.

MR. PRESIDENT: WE ARE NOT AFTER YOUR JOB

The recent statements attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the commissioning of the Red-Line Railway Project have sparked deep concern within the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). We find these remarks, particularly those concerning the role of Labour in governance, to be profoundly at variance with the struggles faced by ordinary Nigerians under existing policies.

President Tinubu’s insinuation that Labour lacks the moral ground to challenge his administration, merely nine months into office, is deeply troubling. Moreover, his focus on partisan issues and the distant 2027 election cycle, rather than the urgent needs of the populace, further underscores a disconnect from the realities faced by Nigerians on a daily basis.

It is regrettable that the President seems oblivious to the profound hardships endured by millions of Nigerians. The pervasive hunger, unemployment, housing insecurity, and escalating costs of basic necessities such as food and healthcare demand immediate attention and decisive action. Yet, instead of addressing these pressing concerns, President Tinubu appears preoccupied with political calculations and future electoral prospects.

The NLC wishes to emphasize that our primary objective is not to vie for political positions, including that of the President. Rather, our sole focus is on advocating for effective governance that prioritizes the welfare and security of all Nigerians. We urge President Tinubu to redirect his efforts towards fulfilling this fundamental duty of public office, rather than engaging in political rhetoric.

It is imperative that we refocus our collective energy on addressing the substantive issues that have been the subject of engagement between Labour and the government since June 2023. These include critical matters such as wage increases, social welfare programs, infrastructure development, and the revitalization of key sectors such as education and healthcare.

In any case to avoid the dissipation of energy, it is important that we focus on the real issues because we have engaged the government since June 2023 after the subsidy is gone statement. The issues are around the non-implementation of agreements reached between us and the government.

For example; on June 5, 2023 after the hike in the Price of PMS, the following agreements were reached between us and the Government viz;

1. Review Proposal for Wage Increase and Award including framework for timing and implementation

2. Review the program of Cash Transfer and propose inclusion of low-income earners in the program

3. Review issues hindering effective delivery in the education sector and propose solutions for implementation

4. Revive the CNG conversion programs

5. Review the framework for the completion of rehabilitation work on the Nation’s refineries

6. Review framework for the maintenance of Roads and expansion of Rail networks across the country

Mr. President, these agreements were reached but the Committee that was saddled with working on these was never inaugurated and none of them was implemented until we were forced to organize a nationwide rally while the president gave his personal commitment. However, Mr. President, nothing came out of your promises.

It took another round of protests for the October 2, 2023 agreement to be reached. We outline the agreement below so that your government will tell Nigerians which one it has been able to implement. They are;

1. The first item on the Agreement is the N35,000 Wage Award.

2. Port Harcourt Refinery will come on stream by December, 2023

3. 25,000 cash transfers to 15 million poor household would be implemented

4. Tax waivers for workers, small businesses and general public

5. Government interference in the internal affairs of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and RTEAN to be stopped

6. The agreement will be deposited as settlement with the Court by Government.

7. That CNG buses and 55,000 conversion kits will be provided

8. All parties shall henceforth commit to the use of social dialogue in all of our engagements

9. The National Minimum Wage Committee to be set up immediately.

10. Outstanding Wages and Salaries for Tertiary Education workers in all federally – owned educational institutions to be paid

11. States and Private sectors to be compelled by the federal government to give Wage Award to workers

12. Fertilizer initiative to farmers across the nation

13. Provision of funds for MSMEs across the nation

14. Visitation to the Refinery to monitor completion of the PH refinery

Once again Mr. President, these are the issues and not election or perhaps seeking to take over your job. We would want Mr. President to show us the items his government has implemented in this agreement. Perhaps, the Government wants to tell Nigerians that we do not have right to ask that it complies with the agreement it willingly reached with us?

But beside all these, in the two MoUs signed with this government on the 5th of June and October 2nd 2023, which item has his government implemented beside rhetoric. The first MoU has seven items while the second has 15 items. It has been a chain of broken promises not only to Labour but to hungry Nigerians

President Tinubu’s administration must be held accountable for the commitments made in previous agreements with Labour. It is disheartening to note the apparent lack of progress in implementing these agreements, despite repeated assurances from the government. Nigerians deserve transparency and tangible results, not empty promises and bureaucratic delays.

Furthermore, the use of divisive language and veiled threats against Labour by President Tinubu is unacceptable. It is incumbent upon all stakeholders to foster constructive dialogue and collaboration in addressing the myriad challenges facing our nation. Violence and intimidation have no place in a democratic society, and any attempts to suppress dissent will only exacerbate tensions and undermine our collective efforts towards progress and prosperity.

Finally, the NLC reiterates its unwavering commitment to championing the interests of Nigerian workers and the broader populace. We call upon President Tinubu to heed the voices of ordinary Nigerians, prioritize governance over politics, and take meaningful steps towards building a more inclusive and equitable society.

Comrade Joe Ajaero

President

PoliticsHardship: Sack CBN Gov, Cardoso – Bwala Tells Tinubu How To Solve FOREX Crisis by Bobloco(op): 10:46pm On Mar 01, 2024
A former spokesman of the Atiku-Okowa presidential campaign council, Daniel Bwala, has urged President Bola Tinubu to sack the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Yemi Cardoso.

Bwala said Tinubu should replace Cardoso with someone without history of bank executive role who would be ruthlessly committed to reforms.

He made the call while identifying how to deal with the Forex crisis in the country.

Posting in X, Bwala wrote: “The key to dealing blow to Forex crisis against the naira is a bit similar to the Enron Scandal in the US; which also require tough political decision.

“Simply sack all the bank execs; they are the only private sector players posting profits without loss since 2015 to date.

“Make them account for the FX they have been receiving from CBN 2015-2024.

“Force them to pay up all loans (if any) obtained from FGN in one week or seize their assets to recover same,

“Replace them with CBN complaint execs.

“Appoint a new CBN governor without a history of bank exec role who would be ruthlessly committed to this reform (if the present CBN governor is not prepared for that) Cardoso appears to be dancing around the elephant in the room.
@officialABAT must succeed with his reform agenda.”

Please don’t mind my errors.

Early this morning I strolled to the shop of the woman I normally buy stuffs from anytime I want to cook. I’m currently in Ogbia Bayelsa state and the prices of food items has really skyrocketed here.

I bought plantain 1k and they are 6 pieces and relatively big compared to other places that will even sell 4 small ones for that same amount. I noticed her food items were cheaper when compared to others in same locality. While I was buying the things I needed, another woman came to shop and was telling her how her items were cheaper when compared to others selling around her. I paid attention to their conversation.

Then I now asked the woman, why are things were cheaper when compared to others. She told me most people are just greedy and wicked and it’s mostly the fault of the retailers who hoard the goods and wait till the Naira falls, then increase the amount they sell them. Those buying take advantage and triple the amount they use in selling. She told things aren’t currently good but people are just taking advantage of the situation to increase the prices of goods and they are making much more gains than ever.

Tinubu wasn’t my candidate in the last election and I know many voted for their preferred candidates for reasons best known to them.

The truth is that the common man on the streets is feeling this hardship and economic sabotage by fellow Nigerians. We don’t have to go to the extreme because we want to make gains and make people suffer. I know the government has its own shortcomings and blames, but let’s be considerate on ourselves.
Is this the new propaganda being churned out from the Agbadorians WhatsApp group?

Suddenly, Nigerians are greedy.
Suddenly, Nigerians are taking advantage of the situation.

Who caused these economic woes that enabled Nigerians to take advantage of themselves?

PoliticsRe: Bola Ahmed Tinubu Is Not The Reason For Our Economy Woes. by Bobloco: 2:59pm On Mar 01, 2024
sirjamesjnr:
The fact is that he is not to blame for our economic woes; I may not and will never consider him to be my president (someone with an identity crisis, a phoney academic background, and a wealth-acquisition mindset is not someone I will ever support), nor did I endorse him in the manner that most rational Nigerians did. In my opinion and that of other rational Nigerians, he is only in the presidency because of the electoral system's corruption and the small number of Nigerians whose opinions are determined solely by their tribe or religion.

Nigerians and our political leaders have refused to follow the example set by China, India, Singapore, Malaysia, and other countries, who have built their economies to be economically wealthy and self-sufficient through sound economic policies and decisions, for over forty years today. We are in this situation because of our over-reliance on oil exploration and its corruption, our eagerness to take out loans for consumption, and our poor and self-serving economic policies. The previous administration's deal dealt a serious blow to the already dead economy, aggravating the already chaotic situation. The system was being openly abused by them; corruption combined with tribalism and nepotism resulted in the current state of our economy. If Tinubu had not acted quickly to end the PMS subsidy and keep borrowing to keep our currency from collapsing, Nigeria would have been proclaimed "a sovereign default."

I am aware that some people will argue that he ought to have implemented economic and palliative measures prior to making the significant move. It is important to remind those people that out of 200 million Nigerians, the majority are politically gullible and unwilling to accept the consequences of their actions or inactions. A country lacks morality when its people embrace corruption at all levels. People like us oppose all good intentions unless they appease our avaricious and unfulfilled desires.

In 2012, there was a chance to steer the economy towards a more robust and stable system, but Tinubu and the majority of Nigerians once again blocked that admirable move by Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. We should hold ourselves and Tinubu accountable for the economic crisis before he assumes the presidency because actions have consequences. Thus, when Tinubu was not holding the presidency, we could hold him accountable.

Instead of levelling accusations at Tinubu, Nigerians should advise him to reduce the cost of recurrent expenditure, appoint technocrats to oversee the economy, and be prepared to implement unpopular but sensible economic policies. Nigerians need to abandon all inclinations towards criminality and corruption, as well as their mindset towards nation-building. By consuming what we produce, we can work towards self-reliance. We should also get ready to fulfil all of our civic duties and become good citizens. Then, and only then, are we able to witness greatness.

I only hope Seun and co will not delete my thread again.
