TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by bobodudu100: 9:06pm On Jul 26, 2024
Hello Guys quick question i wanted to kindly ask your take on my profile. So for first degree GPA was 2.8/4.0. For my masters i had distinction, the UK equivalent of (4.0 GPA) please correct me if i am wrong. But now i intend to apply for PhD. My question is that if doing GRE and having hopefully a high score would that bolster my application to the point of securing scholarship and also what are the odds of applying to tier 1 schools. Thanks

JMG12:
What the school does is send applications to various supervisors, so the supervisors pick at random the ones they want to work leaving the other rejected or sent to different supervisors, if they can get a supervisor for you it means no one was willing to work with you based on your topic or your application wasn't selected. Your topic should align with the research work of the faculty members it will be easy for you to get a supervisor, and establishing a connection with a supervisor also works better and faster. But getting them to respond to your message is something you need to keep trying, so the earlier you begin the better for you.
Thanks for the heads up!

Hello guys so i posted few days ago about not getting a reply back from the school i applied to for a phd programme after about 10 weeks in. They got back to me and said that they couldnt grant admission because there were no available supervisors. Now i am left wondering what really the case is whether its with alignment with my proposed phd topic or maybe they are extremely busy which i am unsure of given there are many potential supervisors on the faculty page of the school. When i messaged them they said that if i plan to reapply that it may be better to establish connection with a supervisor before application. This was infact the exact same thing i thought having read other peoples stories . however in the initial phase of my applicaiton process i emailed them that i had actually sent a mail to potential supervisors but ddnt get a reply from the 3 professors i mailed . They replied with an email saying that it wasnt necessary to email professors that the school themselves can do the connection with potential supervisors once my application was in their system. So i am the point where i am deciding my options for the next available term which is september 2025, i plan to reapply there and to other places . But for this school that i really hope to get into i am guessing one needs to hope for the best in establishing connection with a potential supervisor but then one isnt too sure whether the real issue with no supervior available currently, is really a matter of my topic area or not . Because knowing that would have helped to decide if i need to modify it or not. Any advice would be highly appreciated

You aren't providing enough information for members of the house to know if they have gone through the process.

School Name?
Province?
Course?

However, you will get good feedback from the school if you reach out to them.
Uni of ottawa
Ontario
PhD

I reached out to them last month when it was going over a month since application. I am afraid make them no go vex. Or hope it doesnt matter if i reach out again

EducationRe: Result Of 15-year-old Head Boy Who Fasted For 15 Days Over 2024 JAMB Surfaces by bobodudu100: 6:35pm On May 14, 2024
Fantastic performance by the young chap. Just thought to ask what are you peoples thoughts . It seems these days JAMB success has become highly ubiquitous (which is great) unlike in our days am talking 2000's where (it felt like the fear of jamb was the beginning of wisdom). if you had 250+ you were the stuff of genius. Just curious like i said. What are you guys opinions? Is it down to the difficulty level been modulated or just better preparation across board which i find unlikely but then again just curious.

Thumbs up to the young chap

Genevach:

Pls I’d love to ask I had intentions of going for a 2 months visit and last time I had applied for vfs visa they gave me 30days maximum stay. Is there anyway to have a longer time period. I read somewhere on here that one may have a longer time allowance on the Evisa . Pls has any one got info about this . I’d really love to know thanks

bobodudu100:
Pls is there is a limit on how early you can apply for Evisa. I was thinking to apply for Evisa for a trip on August 25 but from what I read on the thread for the vfs you are allowed to apply from about 3 months to intended travel time .

Good Evening house. Pls when is the earliest time a person can apply for a visit visa. I was asking because I want to know if I can apply now for a trip in August 25 since one can’t predict the timelines and I plan to attend a 2 months programme . And given the 3 month visa stipulation if It comes out too early it may expire before the program duration is complete and that may mean missing the program since one needs a valid visa during the stay. I’d really appreciate advice if applying as early as now is advisable thanks
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by bobodudu100: 7:26am On Apr 26, 2024
Ok thanks
Africankel:
Since your stay is for two months, I'd advise you state that in your application, perhaps the conditions of your visa would be different.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by bobodudu100: 8:23pm On Apr 25, 2024
Oh I ddnt know that does it mean for the 2 month programme I have to go and come back or is there a way to extend the stay beyond 30days
Africankel:
Apply now.

They give three months doesn't mean you can stay three straight months. You are limited to 30 days per visit.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by bobodudu100: 1:03pm On Apr 25, 2024
Hello guys. Pls I am trying to apply for a visit visa . For programme to happen in August through mid october But not too sure when to apply because last year when I applied the visa came out after like 3 months and I couldnt attend the programme I wanted to go for as a result . Now I am want to apply again but I want to know from you guys thoughts and experiences, is it advisable to plan to apply for a 3 months wait time or is the wait time shorter these days ? Because ideally it would be good for my visa to come out around August so that I can attend the 2 months programme bearing in mind that the visit visa they give is for 3 months . S please what are your thoughts on a good time to apply . Thanks

Hello Bobodudu100,

Good to know you are making efforts to secure one.

Since the question relates to academic supervision, I will just drop some quick hints about contacting a supervisor, which has no definite approach, for public digest.

• Start by reviewing the list of faculty members on the program page.

• Trim the members down to the numbers whose research areas directly align with your research interests.

• Check for their most recent publications and/or research, or if they have an upcoming webinar. Don't fail to attend the webinar if there is open.

n.b.
Mostly, some supervisors are quick to turn down a supervision request but don't let it deter your morale.

• Compose an email of about 50 - 100 words and use an attractive SUBJECT. You can attach your résumè, but it's optional.

• The email should reflect your research interest linking it to that of the supervisor, with concise reasons why interested in researching under the professor's guidance, including the benefits the research would bring to the professor's research or academic objectives.

• Reference a supervisor by the title as stated in the list of faculty members on the program page. For Academic Statement/SOP writing, chat on IG/X with @GCMSWriters.

Best Wishes!

Hello Bobodudu100,

Usually, the Ph.D. study comes with full or partial funding in most Canadian institutions. Start by securing a supervisor. You can check with the University of Calgary, the University of Victoria, and others.

OverSabiPikin:
There is no way you can get into the pool.
Your IELTS results and WES evaluation are needed to create an EE account.

You could refer to page 1 for more details, please.

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by bobodudu100: 6:59am On Jan 24, 2024
Ok I meant can I do both applications at the same time . But instead of applying for student visa . I opt for the express entry pool. So I won’t apply for student visa just apply for the PhD programs in case the process takes a while .
Vikkyexman:
PR? Have you submitted your profile to express entry pool? Have you received ITA? If yes, then you can apply for your PR and apply for your PhD when you get to Canada. If no, it's not possible to apply for PR. You can only submit your profile to express entry pool and wait till you receive ITA (invitation to apply)

Hello Bobodudu100,

Both are good schools but you MAY stand more competitive study permit application chances with Uottawa because of its quality teaching standard and rigorous admission process.

You can also check UWindsor for its International Accounting & Finance and Management. Also check Canadore College for its PGC in Business Management with cheaper tuition.

You too will testify
