miamipartyyacht: Hey everyone, I could really use some help.
I submitted my passport for stamping, and it was processed and sent back to the VFS office in Lagos. But just a few days after I dropped it off, I had to travel to the east for my mom’s burial and all the preparations.
By the time I got back to pick up my passport, they told me it had been sent back to the IRCC office in Lagos because I didn’t collect it within 30 days. I honestly didn’t know there was a deadline.
I went to the IRCC office, and the security guard there told me to either email a certain address or use the web form for passport collection. I’ve done both, but it’s been over a month now and I still haven’t heard anything back.
I’m honestly feeling really frustrated and stuck. Does anyone know what I should do next?
Thanks so much - I really appreciate any advice. Load your phone and call them then send emails constantly, state why you could not collect it initially and plead with them to send it to you |

GbemiTrabaye01: Hello everyone, please does Canadian master's program accept students who have an overall IELT score of 6.0 but a writing score of 5.5. Gbemi, I already answered you. You need to do the search your self. You know what you want to study, go and google and type which sch offers the course without test of English, then start researching the results. |

Yemighty05: Hello all, please I need help with this question.
I submitted a study permit application together with spouse SOWP.
My spouse will need a medical exam, given she answered yes to staying 6 months in listed country.
However, the "Request for Medical Exam Form" Did not show up, despite answering all the necessary questions correctly.
Do we not need medicals? If we do, what is the solution for the missing form if application is already submitted
Thank you in advance You can raise a technical issue request and see what feedback you get or just go and do upfront medical and send the e medical sheet via webform. |

creolehunt: Thank you for your response. Really we're conflicted in terms of increasing our chances and the reality of the baby.
If we apply as a family, I'm worried about how to prove home time, even though we have a joint business, wife has a federal govt job, husband has a good job too.
Even if wife goes first and leaves baby and hubby behind. What are the chances that baby and hubby will get SOWP and Visit Visa in the shortest possible time?
If wife goes alone, she definitely cant come for baby till she gets PR as anything before that will still raise question of daycare and all. It is not as if there is no day care, there is, the only thing is it is expensive. She can go with the baby, just have enough funds to pay for day care, then she apply for spouse to join her later. |

creolehunt: We're leaning more towards mother and daughter going first. Then husband apply later.
1. Do you think this presents a more viable option?
2. The Statement of account we plan to use has 90% of the funds in it transferred from our business account (company is owned by me and my spouse and both of us as directors). This spanned over more than 6months. Our last application was filed using the company account as POF,so this time we are using a personal account into which we have been setting aside money for the travel? Would this be a problem? 1. This option is good but you need to make provisions for day care since your baby is still young and the mum will be schooling. 2. This is better, but still explain how the funds were raised from the business since that is the source of funds |

creolehunt: Around 24,000USD. The 5k funding takes it down to 19,000.
Thank you. Living expenses for 3 for first year = $31,583 Tuition = $19,000 Exigencies and flight = $5,000 Total = $55,583 Naira equivalent = N1,195 * $55,583= N66,421,685 On the surface the N74m, you have will be enough to cover your first year expenses, however with IRC, it is not just about having the funds you need to show how the funds were raised with documents, so that they will know it is not funds for demonstration. The land cannot be used as POF since it is not liquid cash, you can use it as home ties. In addition, you need to show how subsequent years, will be funded since all of you are travelling together. |

Please advise for a family of 3 where wife is primary applicant with 5k funding available. Husband will apply for SOWP plus a 7month old baby.
Available fund is 74m in total across naira nd USD.
Land worth 11m.
Would you suggest we apply together or wife and child first.
Also would the 74m be sufficient as POF if we want to apply as family?
I'll be glad to get response. Please what is the duration and tuition of the programme? |

Masterhendrix: good morning house please i need your advice. i am currently enrolled in 1 of the colleges here studying for a year program tho i came in as a 3 year study permit which i switched to 1 year program. now i want to change skul due to the fact that my skul fees here is so high and i was intending on taking psw afetr i finish from cyber security bt i will den need to apply for a fresh study permit making every thing expensive expect i choose to remain in my college. so now i have a way around it which is to study in a private college and do the psw while still studying at my primary institution. so when i get my pgwp after my main course i can use the pgwp to work as psw now this is my question is it really safe to do this? do u guys tink its better this way or i just do the 2nd program in my college and get a 3 years work permit instead If you combine going to a private college and your present school, will that not be too expensive, since you will be paying school fees for both schools, it is not safe. If you want to do PSW, then look for organizations that run certifications on it and do it, not running tow programmes, cos you won't have the authorization to do the private college. I will suggest you 2nd programme in your present college and get your 3 years PGWP. |

MOO02: GCMS notes attached
Please how can a person submit a strong POF. Sister is the sponsor and only her SOA was uploaded in the previous application that was refused
And how can such person show strong home tie to Nigeria? Last of 4 children, 1 in Canada and 2 in Nigeria with applicant and applicant mum in Nigeria, father is late. Recently finished NYSC, no job or job offer No tangible savings or asset but the sibling in Canada is the sponsor. Any clue on what to show as strong tie to Nigeria will be appreciated.
Pls your recommendations will be appreciated The issues were 1. You did not show enough documents to establish your relationship with your sponsor 2. You did not show how your sponsor raised the POF in their account. Suggestions - Get your birth certificate as well as the sponsor's Birth certificate to show you have the same parents, then add pictures of both of you taken to together then if there have been times the sponsor has sent you money please show those times. - Present documents to show how your sponsor raised the POF ie pay slips, employment docs, then the sponsor can also send you a portion of the POF that will be appropriately labeled so it is captured on the transaction history. |

Mickymall: Good day everyone, I am applying for my MSc in Canada with student loan from Mpower which I have been given conditional approval by Mpower. I also added additional source of funds from a friend and my personal savings. I have a current job with monthly salary of 470k in Nigeria. If my student loan is approved by empower and also my admission is successful. What is my chances of visa approval and can I apply with my wife and kid or leave them behind because my intention after graduation is to settle in Canada. Pls I need a professional advice on this No one can say if your application will be approved or not, however, you need to take steps in line with the requirements from IRCC. Firstly, IRCC only recognizes Mpower loan for tuition payment, so you have to raise funds to cover your living expenses and other sundry costs. Using third party as sponsors is very difficult as you have to explain the sources of their income and WHY they are sponsoring you, you also need to show you have some savings as well as this will support your economic establishment in your home country. |

KakashiJonin: Thank you, for your time and insight. The reason why i am having doubts is because i couldn'treally find any solid alumni information about the canadian campus as opposed to their main campus in Boston, which has a very good/solid reputation especially their co-op program which attracted me to the school in the first place. Coupled with mixed comments i read online about their Canadacampus which they call a satellite campus as opposed to Boston.
I also want to mention that I was also able to secure an admission at Concordia University montreal for Masters in information systems security (M.Eng), which also has a comprehensive course offering but their Co-op program doesn't have as much clout has Northeasterns, coupled with the fact that they didn't really give me any funding unlike Northeastern University admission which came with 25% of plus some fundings here and there.
I would appreciate it if you can give me your opinion on which I should go for and why. If you can thank you. Make a scale of preference, look at what you have and need, then see which of the schools ticks most of the boxes, also you will need to consider the location of the schools and the cost of living as well as job prospects there. Once you list the things you need, you will be able to determine the school that will be better for you. |

The first refusal was generic (insufficient fund & no strong home ties) but I am still waiting for GCMS note. My school has issued a new PAL. Can I submit a new application or should wait for the GCMS notes. Please wait for the notes, how long ago did you request for the notes. You will need to send a new application with the new PAL. The app fees for the withdrawn app will be refunded to you. |

MOO02: I got a refusal and a withdrawn application within 2 months I recently began the process of applying for my study permit. Unfortunately, my first application was refused and the second was withdrawn by IRCC due to an issue with the PAL I provided cos i used itforthe first one that was refused. As a result, the PAL is no longer considered valid and cannot be used for subsequent applications requiring a PAL even though the document clearly states that it is valid until December 31, 2025. I have requested for GCMS note for the first application but yet to receive the note. Do i need to request for GCMS note for the second application that was withdrawn? My sister is the one sponsoring me and we only uploaded her statement as POF. In light of this, I kindly request your guidance on how to submit a new study permit application and what other supporting documents do I need to add Please get a new PAL, PAL can only be used once now, then when you get the GCMS notes, you will know how to package the new application |

You will need to rework your POF, the account of your sponsor seems too volatile to serve as POF, the outflows and inflows are too many and the balance often left in the account is too small to cater for you, also you did not add your SOA and other documents that shows your economic establishment, you need to show what you are doing presently backed with docs and if your sponsor can send you the funds then that will be helpful |

KakashiJonin: Good evening, everyone. I recently received admission to the Master’s in Information Systems (MSIS) program at Northeastern University’s Toronto campus. I understand that the main campus is in Boston, USA, and I’ve heard mixed opinions about how much attention is given to the satellite campuses.
I’d appreciate any insights on the credibility and overall experience at the Toronto campus. Additionally, I’m curious about the success and reliability of their internship/co-op programs in Canada — are they as strong and well-supported as those offered in the U.S.? I guess since you If you have secured admission already, you have done your due diligence already, why are you having misgivings? Anyway, the school is legit, their programme is solid, I have come across a few people have enrolled and graduated from the school, infact they will be having their graduation ceremony on May 27th. Pros of the school Their course structure is solid Their faculty is also great. Their lecture structure is very manageable (allows you time to do one or time to get income) Cons of the school It is expensive It is a private university, as such their graduates are not eligible to participate in the ONIP masters stream for PNP. In my honest opinion, if you can afford the school, it is not bad at all, as for the co-op, you would have to search for yourself, though I understand the school usually has a fair for students to meet with potential employers, though it is not a guaranty they would hire you for co-op, at least the fair gives you a chance. |

I was refused on financial ground. For my second application, I plan to hold the balance of school fees, flight money and few for miscellaneous in my bank, sponsor will do a deed of gift and get a GIC for living expenses.. Do I stand a chance or I should Change strategy? The first thing is to get your GCMS notes for the rejected application, so you know the detailed reasons why you were refused, after that, it gives you a direction on how to package your new application |

Will i get a PFL or just a refusal? Im really worried, i plan not to apply again till i have concrete funds available. Im just really scared right now Hmmmmm, that your agent is bad, there is no way to know what the response of IRCC will be, if you do not respond to an ADR, the only bright side is they are requesting for ADR and not requesting you to respond to Procedural Fairness Letter. However, note that this record will be in your file and might always flag when an officer reviews it. |

esosa4real: Thanks Bobomaigida for responding.
Yeah, I will discuss with FIL to be sponsor. Just to be clear, how will the living expenses thingy work out since he doesn't have a bank account in Canada yet. He is barely sixteen. He does not have to have an account in Canada, he can have a naira account and some part of the funds sent there.
And yes the course is PGWP eligible. Good
BTw, I started the study permit application yesterday, just to be clear on what the process entails, and because he is a minor, I have chosen his sister in Canada to be custodian. Has anyone here applied for a minor before? That is fine, you would have to fill the custodial details so IRCC can see it
Finally, I noticed he wouldn't need biometrics as he did it last year but seems he will now require medicals. I remember they stopped upfront medicals for PR applications like a year+ back. How does this work for study permits? Do we upload blank white papers and then later submit medicals via webform or do we arrange for medicals before we can submit the SP application? Thanks. He does not need another biometric, he can go ahead and do the medicals or leave it till it is requested, not doing it will not stop the application from being submitted, when answering the eligibility questions you will answer medicals have not being done |

esosa4real: Greetings my people, old time Nairalander here based in CA.
I just thought it wise to come seek the counsel of experienced members here as student visa applications is not my forte as compared to PR and TRV visa applications.
Basically, my 15 year old brother in law who is currently in secondary school in Nigeria and finishing this August, just got admission to study Software Development as a 2 year Diploma course in Bows Valley College Calgary with proposed start date in September. We applied to 3 schools including Uni of Calgary who are yet to give a final verdict.
He has a five year visiting visa and was here in CA last year for holidays. Bow valley has sent a document to enable him apply for his study visa. I however know that study visas from Nigeria now is tough hence my enquires/questions below. Please feel free to engage or provide any valuable advice/suggestions and answers.
1. Is the fact that he is applying for Diploma from secondary school okay? Is it a regular and popular study route or will it throw red flags. Otherwise, over here Diploma is quite popular. It is not a problem since the school has evaluated him to be acceptable, but confirm is the course is PGWP eligible.
2. His Dad (My Father in law) would be sponsoring him for his education in Canada. What is the minimum amount that should be in the bank statement. Tuition + at least 1 year living expenses $20,700 and miscellaneous like $4000, pls note the sponsor needs to show how subsequent fees and exp will be paid, to strengthen the application, the living expenses should be sent to the student's account.
3. He initially wanted to send the fees to his daughter in Canada so she would be the one to sponsor, but I temporarily advised against it. I feel if the appliocant shows too much ties to his sister or Canada, it may be a red flag. I feel his Dad should be his sponsor. Abi how ona see am? And btw, FIL is a Business General contractor and I worry about what documents he needs to show? (Is Cert of incorporation, Tax cert necessary or should he keep it simple)? Dad as sponsor is better, but he needs to show his source of income with documentary proofs
4. Can FIL use his personal bank statement as proof of sponsorship? Or does it have to be his business account where the money is coming from? Using the personal account is better, but same principle still applies, as he needs to show how the funds in the account were raised and if there are lumps sum deposits, they will be explained.
5. If I remember correctly, Statement of purpose/intent are usually required during study permit applications. Is this still a cardinal part of the application. Does any one have a draft / example we can read and use as a guide only. SOP is still needed, you can check online for samples or search here for a draft
6. I saw someone post that he added an affidavit of return. Please what is this document? Also, how can a 16 year old boy show ties to Nigeria and demonstrate that he would return. Any suggestions? Not needed, it is document that can work against the student during the immigration journey, a mad VO might flag it and question why the student did not return home after studies. his home ties will be work prospects in Nigeria, his family he will return to.
Thanks for your anticipated response, Looking forward to them. . |
