I started a thread for those planning to attend interviews some months back and the result has been tremendous. You need to check the thread out for all the positives happening there.

Now, as I was brooding on the success of the thread, it dawned on me that not everyone will even get the chance of attending an interview. A lot of people are still there searching for jobs and securing that job is an headache that needs to be cures as fast as possible. Well, I believe to those who fall into this category, solution is here. This thread will be providing so many job hunting and hiring tips that will make 2008 a successful one for every one.

I am sure a lot of people are tired of even making an effort and this informs my first post here. If you are already fed up, you can get motivated once more to give it another shot. You never can tell when the door will be opened to you.

I am lazy. I like web design because I ultimately want to work (and I use the term loosely) from home.

I don’t like mornings. I don’t like working set hours. I would rather work through the night than drag myself out of bed each morning and go to work.

During the times that I was unemployed, I really didn’t do as much as I should have to find work.

This article is a retrospective reflection on my experiences with some advice on how to motivate your self to get out there and a find a job.

Set your goals
You first need to decide on what you want to do.

Are you looking a job that is the same as the one you had before, or do you want to move up a level? Perhaps you may want to change industries altogether? Or do you just want to pay the bills?

You have to decide what you want to do right at the beginning of your job search – it’s the basis for your CV and all the job applications you make.

Looking for jobs

Set aside some time each day where you can concentrate on looking for jobs.

Initially, you should be spending a lot of time creating an effective CV. After this you can spend time on the following areas:

Registering with recruitment agencies

Searching recruitment websites

Scanning the local and national press

Finding trade journals that may have jobs advertised for your industry

Sending out speculative letters to potential employers

Applying for advertised jobs (and customising your CV and covering letters if necessary)

Chasing up old contacts to find out about vacancies

Check the local job centre / employment office

Following up any letters you have sent out

You should split your tasks up so you can use your time efficiently.

Research done by the executive search industry has shown that the first person interviewed gets the job only 17.6 percent of the time. But the last person interviewed is hired almost 56 percent of the time, or more than three times more frequently.

The reason: As in most human endeavors, people are wary of accepting the first choice offered. Therefore, do what you can to position yourself among the last candidates interviewed, and definitely not among the first. Other reasons include corporate inertia. It’s often customary to move at a glacial pace. The sense of urgency may not exist at the beginning of a search.

I think you have mentioned the main word: Skills.

People need to develop the right skills in order to get the needed job. When employers see
this trait in anyone, it makes it difficult not to employ such a person.

There are so many people that are downcast all because they couldn't secure an
employment. Well maybe what we all need at this time is Internal Motivation. We need to
motivate ourselves to go out and get that job this month or even this year. Ain't you

This is more than knowing the questions. It is about preparing for the interviews and

I have always believed there is always a solution to any known problem. But I am not sure
yours is exceptional. It happens to all and sundry and the great thing is that you were able to
overcome it.

Just like somebody said in a previous post, see everyone in a place as humans and no gods. Just
tell yourself no one is better than you there and your confidence will be boosted.

Sorry guys, I have been away from my computer for a while. That is the reason for my not updating this blog for a while.

Well, do you know there are some tough interview questions that you will be asked and you won't even know what to say when they are directed at you. Well, succour is here today. I have highlighted some of these tough questions on my blog but let me share them with you here:

Q: "What are your weaknesses?"
"Don't take this literally and go into a detailed explanation of your weaknesses," says John Challenger, CEO of global outplacement consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc. He advises taking a potential weakness and putting a positive spin on it.

A: "I am very detail-oriented and in some industries that may not be a good fit. But for this accounting position, I think this trait truly will help me excel."


Q: "How would you solve this problem?"
Challenger says that these kinds of hypothetical questions can be risky. First of all, they may not like your answer; if they do like it, there's a chance they will steal it. That's what happened to June Sullivan when she interviewed for an activity director's position at a long-term care facility. When asked about marketing ideas, June laid out her entire plan. Well, she didn't get the job, but later recognized some of her strategies being used by the facility.

A: "I think you can increase product awareness by enacting some marketing strategies that could employ advertising, direct mail or media placements."


Q: "Why did you leave your last job?"
Again, Challenger suggests presenting everything in a positive light. An interview is not the time to dish the dirt on your previous employer.

A: "The company just wasn't a good fit for my innovative personality. But what I learned is that organizations have distinct personalities just like people do. Now I know to concentrate my job search on companies who value independent thinking and alternative methods."


Q: "Why do you want to work here?"
Questions like these require you to do your homework before the interview.

A: "I want to be a part of a global company that last year alone invested $1.4 million in research and development of eco-friendly industrial processes."
