The power of books in the life of a man can NEVER be under estimated.

While in the University, I was afraid of the future considering the Unemployment Stats I was
being fed with on a regular basis. Something within me was craving for a change but I just
couldn't make this change happen. What changed my life?

I believe God was looking at my situation and He sent a BOOK to me. "Unleashing The Tremendous Potentials Within You" is the book that turned me from a despondent young
man to one that sees a brighter future. I was told I have so much within me to offer the
whole world and I cannot afford to settle for less.

I graduated in 2002 and has only worked for a year. Since 2003, I've NEVER got a job. I was
looking inside of me for the solutions and it has been a wonderful experience. I am on a
journey and it has been great so far, I may not be there yet, but it is just a matter of time.

I'm not sure I know what your career/job is exactly, so I may not be able to profer
solutions to some of your questions

1) You alone can answer this question. What exactly do you want? What are you looking at
achieving? If you set months or years for yourself, will you be able to enjoy those extra
time? Your answer to these will depend on what you really want.

Some years back, I was working at a legal firm, not a high-paying job, and I had it at
the back of my mind that I want to set out to be an entrepreneur. I was using the job to get
acquainted with the computer and after my 8 month there, I felt a burden within me to
leave.

All the extra days afterwards were not palatable for me. Before the end of the month, I
told my boss I want to leave. He was shocked at my decision and so many others were
as well. I left at the set time and since then I've never begged to apply anywhere.

That is 4 years ago, October 2003 to be precise. It wasn't an easy path to follow, but I
have a plan for my life and if I hold on to that job, I may get too comfortable and I know
I will have myself to blame.

So all I am saying is know what you want and follow it. FOLLOW YOUR HEART and be responsible for the consequences

How difficult were all these questions?

Learning to Read An Interviewer’s Mind

All jobs solve problems. That’s the secret to landing a new job. Identify the employer’s problem and show the hiring manager how you’ll solve it.

Most job seekers don’t follow this approach. They concentrate on their own skills, experiences and past job duties. They never really connect with the employer’s needs.

“So many of the resumes that I see offer just a traditional listing of past titles, employers and work duties,” says Sharon Willen, a career counselor at Growth Connections Inc., a career counseling and training firm in Huntington, N.Y. “That’s a job history. It really doesn’t speak to the next employer’s needs.”

Her advice? “Grab their interest by showcasing something from your background that really connects with what they do. Get [an] employer to think, “I want this person doing that at my company.” To follow this advice, you need to do some research to learn what the employer does.

Linda Commodore, director of career services at the Westbury, N.Y., campus of the Chubb Institute, a computer-training company known for its high graduate-placement rate, says, “For candidates entering a new job market, it’s vitally important to understand the employer’s needs.”

For career changers, Ms. Commodore adds another twist. “First, upgrade your technical skills. Then go back to the companies and industries that you already know. Sell yourself as an insider who can also deliver the cutting-edge skills that this employer needs right now.”

The Candidate as Consultant

Think of yourself as someone who goes into a company, and helps it meet its challenges. As a job seeker, consider yourself a business consultant. You work with employers to create the best ways to manage departments, prepare reports, design marketing campaigns or whatever it is that you do.

Find the employer’s problem. Why are they hiring in this position? Is there software that needs debugging? Staff that needs managing? Once you know what the employer wants, it’s easier to make them want you.

Consider the candidate who interviewed for a junior position involving scheduling and handling records and documents at a company that creates transportation links under New York’s Grand Central Station. In describing the job, the hiring manager complained about having three hundred employees but no way to control them. “What we really need,” he said, “is someone who can get all these people working together.”

The candidate was quickly able to demonstrate exactly how his background in managing large defense contracts made him the perfect candidate to organize this department. Now he’s the company’s new logistics manager — a different position than the one he originally interviewed for.

To identify what your next employer needs:

1. Read between the lines of the job posting. Isolate the skills, experiences and personality being sought. Then compose a problem statement for that job. For example, “This employer needs someone who can connect with mid-sized clients and cultivate new business for the product division of their multinational company.”

2. Research the employer. Study its web site and other internet or library resources. Or talk to current or former employees. Is it conservative or freewheeling? Did it just get a new contract?

3. Be observant and keep your eyes and ears open when you interact with recruiters and interviewers.

Being attentive paid off for a national tradeshow coordinator who decided to switch careers after her last employer reorganized. In an interview with a pharmaceutical company, she listened closely when a recruiter described an opening in product sales. “You need someone who can create a rapport with each customer,” she said when he finished. “Someone who can juggle multiple product lines and get results without supervision.”

“I’m doing the same thing right now — in my job search,” she said. Then she highlighted the same strengths in her own background. She got the job. Her secret? She listened to what the employer really wanted and was able to fill those needs.

Solving employers’ problems makes you an insider who speaks their language and understands their company. It’s as if you’re saying, “I know what goes on in your office every day. Here’s how I can help you.”

Apply this approach to other areas of your job search, including the jobs you target and your resume. Solving problems will turn your resume package into a business proposal because your skills will answer their needs. Your interview will become a consulting meeting as you sit with hiring managers and help them meet their challenges.

You're Not Super Rich? Then You Lucked Out By Jonathan Clements

Great wealth is overrated.

Whenever my kids swoon over a palatial home or a passing Ferrari, it always bugs the heck out of me. Before long, I am on my soapbox, insisting that they shouldn't be awed by such symbols of wealth.

This might sound odd coming from a personal-finance columnist. But the fact is, while it is comforting to be financially secure, money is no measure of self-worth, no guarantee of happiness -- and no reason to be impressed.

Forget Respect

We all tend to sit up and take notice when we come across people with fancy titles, hefty incomes and immense riches. Yet these aren't signs of genius or virtue. Want proof? All it takes is two words: Paris Hilton.

Wealth may be inherited, which means the beneficiaries' struggle for riches didn't extend beyond the delivery room. Legendary investor Warren Buffett, the billionaire chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, has described "the idea that you win the lottery the moment you're born" as "outrageous."

What about the self-made rich? Shouldn't we be more impressed by them? While their hard work and perseverance are often admirable, I wouldn't be too quick to deify.

Today, if you are adept at judging the chances that a corporate takeover will go through, you can make good money running an investment fund devoted to merger arbitrage. Such a skill, however, wasn't nearly so valuable in thirteenth century England -- or, for that matter, twenty-first century Afghanistan.

In other words, in a different society or at a different time, your peculiar set of skills might ensure fabulous financial success. But in today's America, you are just another working stiff.

Losing Money

Displays of wealth can also be misleading. Folks can appear wealthy -- but the mansion may be fully mortgaged, the cars might be leased and the landscaper may still be awaiting payment.

Even if you come across somebody who can easily afford the trappings of wealth, the trappings themselves are not a sign of wealth, but of wealth that has been spent. The money lavished on the cars, homes and jewelry is now gone.

True, these purchases could always be sold. But there's no guarantee they will fetch the price that was paid -- and, in the meantime, they may require hefty maintenance costs.

Don't get me wrong: There is nothing wrong with spending. The whole reason for saving and investing now is so we can have money to spend later. That said, I can't imagine why I should find this spending impressive -- and I am not sure it is making the spenders happy.

Feeling Tense

As the old adage goes, money doesn't buy happiness. Yes, those with high incomes and more wealth often say they are happier.

This may, however, be a so-called focusing illusion. When the well-heeled are asked how satisfied they are with their lives, they contemplate their position in society -- and they realize they're pretty fortunate.

But research has found that, when high-income earners are asked about their emotions on a periodic basis throughout the workday, they don't report being any happier -- but they are more likely to say they are anxious or angry.

No Satisfaction

All this might have you scratching your head. It seems obvious that your life would be better if you had a gardener to maintain the yard, a chef to prepare your meals and a private jet to whisk you off to exotic locations.

And if you were suddenly handed all these things, life would indeed be grand -- until you got used to them. Unfortunately, after a while, you would become accustomed to the great food and the no-hassle travel, and you would be hankering for something even better.

Problem is, once you are used to life's finest, that hankering can be hard to satisfy. Suppose you go to the best restaurant in town with your wealthy friends. To you, the food is unimaginably good. To your friends, it is just another meal -- and yet there's no place better they can eat.

Finding Purpose

As you might gather, I think it is important to realize that there is nothing that special about the wealthy or the life they lead. But my goal isn't to discourage folks from striving to be rich. That brings me back to my children.

Not everybody will grow up to be president of the United States -- or, for that matter, president of a major corporation. Still, I hate the idea that my kids might be so awed by such people that they consider these lofty positions out of reach.

Maybe, of course, my kids will decide that they aren't interested in spending their lives in pursuit of fame and fortune, and that would be fine. But I don't want them to be so awestruck by anybody -- whether wealthy, talented or powerful -- that they rule out such possibilities.

Having enough money is important, but having heaps of it doesn't guarantee happiness. Instead, what matters is doing something that you enjoy and that gives you a sense of purpose -- and I don't want my children to be deterred from doing just that.

A thread reminded me of the days I used to go job hunting as a SSCE holder just
to fill in the gap before admission come calling.

I remember those mushroom employment agencies that spring up here and there
promising to help one get a job in a very lucrative place. Imagine then, I was sent to
Halliburton by one of those guys. I thought I had found favour as I was going until I
got to the gate and saw the gigantic building.

My first thought was, what will a small boy like me, SSCE holder for that matter will be
doing here? To cut the long story short, nobody knew the person that refered me there
and the security there told me that I am only qualified to work there as a security

So guys, in a bid to secure job at all cost, let us watch out. There are so many people
waiting to fleece us of the money we are even trying to manage. Desperation should
NEVER make us lose our mind. SHINE YOUR EYES!
