But everywhere you look now, especially in Lagos, there are telecom masts everywhere like a forest. The government is making serious cash from the operators and you see these operators always donating one thing or the other to muzzle the government.

You hardly see masts openly in the UK, Europe or the US the way they sprout like a rash on our horizon in Naija. Even in neighbouring countries like Benin, Togo and Ghana.

But Nigeria is a dumping site for all sorts and poverty-stricken landlords and ignorant tenants allow electromagnetic radiation emitting masts right beside their bedrooms and compounds with the regulators pretending as if all is normal.

In Nigeria, there's a regulation that prescribes a 10/12 metre setback while another Guideline states 5 metre. Studies in other countries are recommending 350-400 metres as recommended setback as cancer has been identified in residents living as far as 80 metres from a telecom mast.
