Buying or selling the dollar?

I think it is buying from the mallam, the dollar came down small but still the margin between the bank price and the parallel market price so high, more than 15 naira  angry which means the CBN is encouraging the black market. when the market price was around 154 - 156 naira, the demand in the CBN auction WADS was around 150 - 250 million USD, now the demand is over 700 million USD. There are many ways for corrupting the system, taking the dollar from CBN and sell it in the black market, anyone can get fake visa and fake airticket, costs 25k, and go to his bank collecting 4000$ and sell it in the black market with 40k Naira profit. Those CBN people either they are idiots, aliens or they are doing it purposely lipsrsealed embarassed embarassed

That is so pathetic and the govt dont think something has to be done?
And people soon will be complaining about the prices of rides.

the worse still ahead, the government is heavily over spending which puts so much pressures on Naira and at the end it will collapse, and the only the average people will suffer. Is this the change we had been hoping?

we can't win, if we disburse dollars the foreign reserve drops and the govt is accused of depletion the reserves, we withhold fx and govt is accused of depreciating the naira. C'mon you macro economists lets have the solution

The main issue here is achieving stability of the monetary system. He cant make a decision today and come tomorrow with another one because he discovered that the first one is incomplete or doesn’t achieve his goals. It is like a doctor doesn’t know what does the patient needs so he gives him everyday different medicine. What would does it produce?!
Business / Re: N150,000 Withdrawal Limit: Court Can’t Stop Me, Says Sanusi by BOMANY: 1:01am On Jul 13, 2011
In the beginning, I thought Sanusi is for something good for the Nigerian fiscal system, but nothing good would come out of a system that is subject of dramatic changes two or three times every month. Almost every week he comes out with new regulations.
Any market needs stability. How can he achieve this with convertible system?
The last thing he did, he restricted dollar supply to all authorised currency dealers (Bureau De Change (BDC) companies) to a maximum of $250,000 to BDCs per week, this led to the highest depreciation of Naira this year. Yesterday, it was 165 Naira to a dollar and only God knows where it is heading to. That puts more pressure on the consumers and kicks up the inflation to start its vicious circle
In brief, now I believe he doesn’t have a vision, he doesn’t know what he needs to do, and worse he doesn’t know the effect of his decisions. He lacks any sense

CBN Raises Dollar Supply at WDAS

By Obinna Chima
12 Jul 2011

]The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Monday increased the supply of dollar at its bi-weekly auction following renewed demand for the
greenback. This led to an appreciation in the value of the Naira at the bi-weekly auction. Of course, the Naira slumped at other segments of the forex market as dealers resorted to alternative sources to meet their demand for the greenback. The local currency suffered significant set back at both the Parallel and Bureau De Change (BDC) markets.

Appetite for the dollar had dropped at the apex bank’s regulated Wholesale Dutch Auction System (WDAS) due to a new regulation which restricted dollar supply to all authorised currency dealers to a maximum of $250,000 to BDCs per week. Following the announcement of the policy, demand for the greenback had dropped to below $200 million at the WDAS.

But findings by THISDAY Monday showed that the regulator raised its supply by 100 per cent from $150 million at the previous auction held last Wednesday, to $300 million. The regulator was unable to meet $14 million out of the $314 million put up by the 20 banks that
participated in the auction. In comparison, demand rose by $4 million Monday as against the $310 million that was recorded last Wednesday.
However, the naira appreciated slightly by 50 kobo against the dollar at the WDAS to N150/$1 Monday, compared with the N150.50/$1 it attained last Wednesday.

At the interbank market, the Naira fell by 65 kobo against the dollar as it closed at N152.97/$1 Monday, compared with the N152.32/$1 it closed on Friday. The local currency slipped by N3 to N159/$1 at the parallel market Monday from its Friday’s value of N156/$1. It also dropped by N2 to N157/$1 at the BDC segment, from N155/$1 ON Friday. Experts at FSDH Securities Limited forecast that in the short term, there will be inflow of foreign exchange into the domestic government securities market, which according to them will propel exchange rate appreciation.
“We expect Treasury Bills auction of about N89.74 billion - (91 day NTB: N44.33bn; 182 day NTB: N45.40bn). Also, we equally expect the same amount to mature in the coming week. We also expect that the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) will meet in this week to release the allocation for the month of July. This may increase liquidity in the system and cause inter-bank rates to drop,” FSDH added in its latest weekly report

Properties / Pls Your Advice Is Needed - Cheaper One by BOMANY: 4:35pm On Jun 07, 2011
Hello NairaLanders

Pls I need your advice; I rented a warehouse at Mille 12 - most of the premises is open land with fence. I need to do some flooring works there for storing more goods. The space is about 100 square meter (25m X 4m)

So, which is cheaper to do the job;

using granite + Cement and sharp sand

Or using Interlock Tiles

Pls put in mind that a fork left will be working on that area from time to time, let's say once monthely

Of course in both cases we need to raise the ground with sharp sand

Pls I need your advice. Some told me the granite is cheaper while others said the interlock is cheaper and I am confused as I do not have much experience in this matter.

Thanks

Something fishy bout dis ride, its got no VIN, undecided

"Murano, generally from 2003-2009, has a serious problem with its transmission (the Gear), it will need replacement of another gear, the new one costs about 4000$ to 6000$. Nissan has refused to re-call any of them even in USA"

Perhaps that is hwy we now see cheap Muranos, I do not mean that I know that this car has any problem, I am talking generally, even I am interested mysef to inspect the car and get it if an expert tells me go ahead, but must inspect it mechanically very good ooooo

Car Talk / Re: Best SUV For Nigeria? by BOMANY: 2:52pm On Jan 06, 2011
Well, I needed this thread so much as I am preparing to buy a SUV
I think it is turning to be a general question for everybody not just the poster.
Evvie & babasian you ve turned my head with what you wrote!!

However, I am not looking for luxurious SUV like prado, Landcruiser, Range Rover etc. I ve limited budget and I was thinking to buy a good SUV from the USA after 2005 models, like Ford Escape 2008, Mazda Tribute 2008, Jeep Patriot or Compas 2007, Nissan Murano 2005,. Specifically, I am looking for a SUV with 3L engine capacity highest.

Even I was thinking of buying from Ebay or Yahoo with using an inspection company to give me detailed report.

Its price dia max. around 10k USD and it is very reasonable in consumption of fuel, except Murano, and it will save me from the mechanics headache here. In my opinion, most of our mechanics are idiots and the good ones are very expensive, while the Agents like car link will ruin my budget.

Forget about the re-sale price, once you register the car, it loses 40% of its value and reselling used Nija cars are not easy, besides I ve decided to forget about reselling and use the car till it dies, even if I buy new one I still use the old one to the end, then I do not mind how much it gives me when it dies, even 200k, at least I won’t feel like someone stole me as it happened many times with me.

After reading your posts, I do not know, you sent me back to the first quarter. Should I change my mind and buy a sedan though our streets will tear it apart or buy old SUV and push my luck bearing the mechanic headache? I just do not know, , I have to rethink again.

I need a core advice

babasin:

I plan to tour Nigeria for two wks and park the car at home.
I will disable the tyres and take back with me the car-keys. And when I visit  again and see any problem with Car. I will simply cut-off from everyone.

I would not advise you to do this. From my experience I can tell that used cars need to be driven once a while otherwise everything will come stiff and dried. why do nt you put it in a custody of a trustworthy relative of yours unless you do not have any, and give him meter range like max. 1000 km a year to drive it around and avoid complications otherwise buy Nigeria used car for your trip and sell it out as you r going back. You may lose some money but no regrets, as if you hired a car.

Then you get a call "Em Brother, em em em your car, em em em"

Keep a nice ride at home only if you live there.

Hahahaha cheesy cheesy
I ve seen this movie before. Man!! You ve almost described what happened with me but it was my wife instead of the bro. I left my new Skoda Octavia (was just bought brand new 3m Naira) and traveled. She did not touch the car as she had her own small Toyota Carine but just before coming back she wanted to give her mom a ride and she wanted to impress her mom so she hired a driver for just a day or so. The first day she took the car they made fatal accident, the air bag blew off…. , Thank God that no one died but the new car turned to just a piece of junk. And to make things worse I didn’t pay for the insurance as it ended just before traveling and I said leave it till come back, man, I didn’t know! The rest of the story is known, I called and I was told that my car emmmm emmmm
Hahaha
I am laughing now, but at then it was horrible shock

Business / Nepa's Extra Fees- Is It Legitemate by BOMANY: 2:54pm On Dec 21, 2010

Hi Niralanders

First of all i didnt know where to put my topic so I chose this forum, Sorry Mod., you are free to re-post it in wherever it is suitable.

Pls everybody I need to know something about NEPA or PHRCN or whatever the name, Are they (NEPA) supposed to collect extra monthly fees for the prepaid meters.
I paid all the fees to install prepaid meter (about 60k Naira) a year later I went to recharge the card but they told me that I have to pay over one thousand for every month (the previous months) plus the money I want to charge on the card. They just said it is the regulations.
I can nt understand, As i paid all the fees, why I have to pay monthly payment just for the meter?!!!!!!!!

Thanks all
