Food › Re: Prices Of Rice, Beans, Maize Soar At Lagos Market - Vanguard by Bondesniger(m): 4:06pm On Aug 06, 2016 |
JuliettaBitch: The prices of commodities like imported rice, maize , beans, palm oil, sorghum and others have continued to rise at the Mile 12 Market in Lagos. This is reflected in the commodity index update, prepared by Novus Agro Nigeria Ltd, an agro-based firm, and made available to newsmen on Friday in Lagos.
According to the index, a 50kg bag of imported rice currently selling at N16,857 was sold for N14,800 last week, thus recording a whopping N2,057 increase. Miss Avaado Gaadi, Enumeration specialist at the firm, told pressmen earlier that increase in the price of imported rice was as a result of restrictions on imported commodities.
Gaadi said that the restriction was to uphold the Federal Government’s drive to diversify the economy, through promoting consumption of locally-produced commodities.
Meanwhile, the paint bucket measurement of imported rice has also increased to N1,457 as against N1,333 sold last week. Also, a 100kg bag of beans, which has been on a continuous increase since June, now attracts N25,714, as against N24,000 it attracted last week; while the paint bucket measurement remained stable at N900.
However, the 100kg bags of maize, sorghum, onions and 25-litre container of palm oil were on the increase at the market. Maize attracted N12,829, as against N11,375 it was sold for last week, recording a difference of N1,454, while the paint bucket measurement increased slightly from N500 to N507.
Sorghum now selling for N11,571 was sold for N10,313 last week, thus attracting an increase of N1,258, while the paint bucket measurement increased from N500 to N507. Also, onions increased slightly to N16,143 from N16,125, recording N18 increment, while the 2kg measurement remained unchanged at N500.
A 25-litre keg of palm oil increased to N7,286 from N7,063 it sold for last week, while the bottle measurement also increased from N250 last week to N280 this week.
While soya beans remained unchanged at N17,000 per 100kg bag, the 60kg and 100kg bags of garri and groundnut dropped in price. Garri, which now goes for N12,614, was sold for N12,763 last week; while groundnut now sells for N25,000, as against the N25,500 it attracted last week. However, the paint bucket measurement of both commodities remained unchanged at N600 and N950 respectively.

He also added that the party has open its door to receive any aggrieved politician, frustrated in both the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. The SDP governorship aspirant further reiterated that the agitation of who becomes the next governor of Ondo State come February 2017 after Governor Olusegun Mimiko must have ended his tenure should not be based on political sentiment as being agitated by different regions in the state. The former Minister of Power and Steel further assured that when elected his government would work together with the people to reap the dividence of democracy noting that there would be an end to poverty. Deputy National Chairman of the SDP, Dr Abdul Isiaq Ahmed, urged the party's members go and start gathering support for the party as the governorship election draws nearer.

Hammefeez: ABUJA SLAIN FEMALE PREACHER: THE TRUTH Nigerian Media: Truth versus Reality In the past few days, the hearts of genuine citizens of our great nation have bled over the news of the killing of a female Christian preacher by alleged Muslim fanatics in Kubwa area of the FCT, Abuja. I was actually alerted by a friend's text message because although I reside in the affected area, I was far away in Ibadan, Oyo State, as at the time of the incident. As an average concerned Nigerian, I thought, when will this nation be free from religious and ethnic crises? But as a journalist and one with eyes for investigation, I knew I had a duty at hand. So, on my return to the city, I visited the particular street, the particular spot, conducted personal investigation and secret interviews, and made several findings. I became sad! Why? Most of the information doled out by our media are NOT TRUE! For the avoidance of doubt, there was no evidence of anyone present when the woman died. Witnesses only said they met her dead. Secondly, I did not find anyone to confirm that any part of the woman was missing or mutilated. I talked with one who saw the corpse early that morning, with two policemen, before the news went viral. Thirdly, there was no mosque in that street or behind the spot. Fourthly, the vicinity had been under the torment of cultism in the past few months, in fact, two separate persons were found killed and dumped in the area recently, one of them on the street adjacent this particular one. The police is actually on the trail of s notorious cult who is believed to have sneaked into and hiding in the area. The police is insisting that they met the corpse body intact. But, alas! What my colleagues wrote were terrifying. In fact, it revived hatred, instigated religious intolerance and personal mistrust. I am sure many of you journalists who wrote the story were not in Abuja, you just received the news from friends and forwarded to your headquarters, which also did not verify before going to press. I also know that many of those in Abuja then did not visit the place, nor conduct proper investigation. For an issue as critical as religion and ethnicity, most of you goofed! The media is an indefatigable player in nation building, and no society is firmly built on negligence and mistrust as being displayed by our journalists. But, the media houses too are at fault. Most of them pay peanuts for staff while the few at the top swim in affluence. Where, then, is the resource and motivation for the reporter to carry out investigative reporting and due diligence. To survive, many journalists are pipers in the hands of politicians, religious leaders and businessmen and even government, who dictate their tune. Yet, the masses are at the receiving end because they naturally hold on to the news from the media. It is a hell a times, to change the people's perception on issues, over which our media had made serious blunders. I had had to show identity cards to some, before they agree to reason along the right perspective. The corruption on the media is much, but our colleagues can just help hold on to the truth. By Sulaimon Adeshina Please share till everyone knows the truth. you are just trying to divert attention from fact and equally trying to cover up some poo i think you most be investigated

Politics › The Great Rice Ritual & Sacrifice In Ondo by Bondesniger(op): 8:54pm On Jul 22, 2016 |
The great Rice Ritual & Sacrifice in Ondo
Reliable information has it that, in line with the imposition of a gubernatorial candidate in Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the outgoing Governor, has attempted to assume spiritual power and diabolic dominion over the people in Ondo State. He was advised to share enchanted rice all over the State so that people who take the rice or eat it will be cowed spiritually to submit to his political influence especially in respect of his imposition of the PDP candidate.
Dr Mimiko, in his wisdom had therefore started distributing rice as "*_palliative measure_*" to already starved and hungry people of Ondo State, starting from Akoko, the worst hit area in the State. The rice was initially sprinkled with concoction and bewitched for seven days before it was re-bagged for distribution.
The #Council-of-concerned-citizens is urging all Ondo State people to *reject bewitched rice* and demand for their pensions, salaries, youth employment and industries and policies for empowerment so that they can buy and eat safe rice on their own. _*May God save us all from eating from the table of our enemies and evil doers*_. Amen.
