Foreign Affairs / Re: U.S Notified Russia Of Biden's Ukraine Visit (Photos) by brent07(m): 7:36am On Feb 21, 2023
aariwa:
One thing about US they never follow the direction the whole world is following when the world was doing left hand drive they went right hand, when the world was doing parliamentary they went presidential and ironically after some time the world starts following the same because America is like a show piece of the world everybody is watching. Everybody knows American presidents, politicians and entertainers but more than half of Americans do not even know where west Africa is or the president of any European country except late queen Elizabeth. Most countries in the world believe in showcasing their best military weapons to inspire fear while America even though an open society downplays its military capability in extreme secrecy that any time American military tests any weapon for the world to see most military watchers know already they have outdated that technology many years before. US military used internet from WW2 and released it to the world in 1999 when it was no longer of use to them same way they released drones for everybody to use. During WW2 hitler subdued entire Europe with his commanders and men like Italian dictator Benito Mussolini , pacific and Asia even China through emperor Hirohito of Japan . America refused to join the war like they are doing now over Ukrainian issue. Hitler, Mussolini etc taunted them until the devil pushed Japan into bombing Pearl Harbor. America entered the war and during the bombardment of Omaha beach and Normandy to gain access into Europe terrified German soldiers wrote that the kind of weapons Americans came with was something they never imagined in their existence would exist in the next 1000 years; then coupled with total destruction of Japanese biggest cities then of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which made emperor Hirohito to admit that after his god it’s Americans. They even came with thousands of fighter jets and bombers than turned German military bases into tornados of fire and armored tankers that run on water and were detonating explosives at the beach. The battle lasted 48 hours and the lightening from the constant bombardments made the night look like broad daylight. It was rumored the shock drove hitler to go and commit suicide. By the time they gained access and started liberating countries held in bondage by hitler there was American flags all over Europe with everybody chanting “America..America…” thanking the heroic soldiers for the new found freedom. That war was described as the largest scale military operation ever carried out in a theater of war in the history of mankind , after that bloodshed Americans started UN, WHO,IMF etc with aim never to have a repeat of such again and that’s why what America did in North Korea,Vietnam, Iran, iraq, etc are largely seen as peace keeping even though moderate and liberal politicians in US are still angered by what happened in iraq. For Biden’s visit I know they will have missile protectors around him and would probably lock up the airspace too in addition to the tight security mobilized from their bases in Europe but should anything happen to Biden in Ukraine there would be no Russian in the next few weeks and Russia knows that

Politics / Okonjo And The Politics Of Political Will By Ebelo Goodluck by brent07(m): 9:55am On Apr 25, 2016
Read the article by Ebelo Goodluck below... Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has had a distinguished public career. Twice finance minister and economic tsar, as the coordinating minister of the economy in her last iteration, she has hands on experience of the country’s financials. That can’t be denied her. Recently, speaking on the economic crisis in Nigeria at George Washington University, Washington DC, she said the current economic crunch was down to a lack of political will to foster savings. "We tried it in Nigeria, we put in an oil price based fiscal rule in 2004 and it worked very well. We saved $22 billion because the political will to do it was there. And when the 2008 /2009 crisis came, we were able to draw on those savings precisely to issue about a 5 percent of GDP fiscal stimulus to the economy and we never had to come to the bank or the fund. This time around and this is the key now, you need not only need to have the instrument but you also need the political will. In my second time as a finance minister, from 2011 to 2015, we had the instrument, we had the means, we had done it before, but zero political will.So we were not able to save when we should have. That is why you find that Nigeria is now in the situation it is in. Along with so many other countries.” Now, the way this has been reported, and has been latched on to, even by those who have made a career of destroying NOI’s record of service to her fatherland, creates the impression that there was a paralysis in the government headed by Goodluck Jonathan, or at least very little appetite in trying. Coming at a time, an especially absentee style of governance has taken over Abuja. Senior government officials, like the governor of Edo State, declaring a minister in the previous government of stealing USD6b , with a facetious rider that a senior US government official told him . Remember, Oshiomhole featured prominently on every photo- OP on the president’s trip to the US. Add to the manic churn of the APC rumour mill: USD 90 billion recovered from the former petroleum minister, USD 200 billion recovered and to be repatriated from the UAE, trillions of naira liberated by the Treasury Single Account. If a quarter of these were true, even a-kite-in-the- sky president like Muhammad Buhari would not risk over fourteen hours of flight time for the sights of burgeoning China. Blaming the previous administration seemed to have run its course as poor management of the economy, most especially , a near-blindness to our diversity has robbed the government of popular support. This is the fallow land NOI’s comments, inadvertently or not , are coming to water. The “inability” of the previous administration to save was not for want to trying. As we shall see, the previous administration did save. What can't be argued against is that we could do with much more savings. As it were, the gall in NOI’s comments, is what is left unsaid. A little context: NOI, as was President Jonathan, were stalwarts of savings. But they were up against governors who understood and exploited our weak revenue laws and constitutional fuzziness . Bukola Saraki, Rotimi Amaechi and Babatunde Fashola are the trinity of earn and spend governors, who twice took the federal government to court on the Excess Crude Account. By some wonderful twist of fate , they are all leading lights of the current ideas- challenged APC government . What kind of political will could have stopped them except an amendment of the constitution, which was an impossible feat given the death-like grip, governors wield over the state houses of assembly or a resort to constitutional breaches that made the federal government a present danger to our democracy in the Obasanjo years. President Jonathan created the Sovereign Wealth Fund. First of its kind in Nigeria. Thanks to NOI herself, Segun Aganga, Adesina Akinwunmi and the support of the Nigerian people. Even here, part of the ECA had to go just to stave off a constitutional challenge. For any money to be saved in the nation’s financial architecture, it has to get into the ECA first. But this process was ambushed in the legislature by the Aminu Tambuwal (another APC peacock) led House of Representatives with the unwarranted increase in the benchmark whenever it had to deal with the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) or even the budget once it got to the floor of the National Assembly. Raising the benchmark invariably vitiates the savings anticipated and thus less money in the ECA. The major drain on the ECA through the Jonathan years was the subsidy payments. NOI suffered more than her fair share of name calling when the Jonathan’s administration moved to remove the fuel subsidy. The removal can't by any stretch be seen as a lack of political will. Hence, it’s rather bewildering that she would lay the depletion of the ECA on the doorstep of Jonathan. Indeed, were memories not that short, many would recall that the sponsorship for the Ojota rallies against the removal of the subsidy regime was from the coffers of the Lagos State government. And just last year, the Buhari government disbursed two tranches of funds. First , was dividends from the NLNG which the Jonathan government had saved and the second, bailouts to near-bankrupt states Needless to state that all that happened, once you excuse certain acts of larceny that could be pinned down to some individuals, are to the glory of all that served the government . Collective glory, collective responsibility.

Education / Naps Presidency: Open Letter To President Mohammedu Buhari by brent07(m): 8:41am On Apr 25, 2016
Polytechnic Students Demand The Promised Change Now; sir, we applaud your frantic efforts directed at revamping our economy through several economic policies and measures capable of salvaging the nation's treasury from the strongholds of political robbers. With keen interest, we are following the Anti Graft Campaign, the sudden reawakening of CCT, the general increase in prices of basic foods and services-students having to pay through the nose back to their respective homes. Anyway, as objective citizens, we are still exercising patience. However, it is better to clearly point out that our vault of patience on the dehumanizing HND/ Bsc Dichotomy is exhausted. The polytechnic graduates or HND holders have been under this unjust treatment for years. As a most awaited Messiah, who rode on board of the propagated change, the immediate abolition of the discrimination against HND Certificate should be part of the flagship program. Your Excellency sir, I supposed government is a continuum ; in May 2014, the committee set up by the federal government to work on the Dichotomy between holders of HND/Bsc was inaugurated. Amongst others the committee was saddled with the task of reviewing the content and curriculum of the HND program to be equivalent to the Bachelor of Technology, such that this will grant HND holders the right to reach the highest grade level in the public service. It is no crime for your administration to consolidate on that. Also, "A Bill for an Act to abolish and prohibit Dichotomy and Discrimination between First Degree and Higher National Diploma in the same profession or Field " was sponsored by Senator Ayo Akinyelure (Ondo. Central Senatorial District ), this is an auspicious leverage to effect the desirable change. Sir, the traumatizing experience of HND Holders in their places of work, the continuing injustice, disparity and discrimination meted on products of polytechnics in Nigeria is

Fuel Scarcity Conundrum: Mistakes of Yesteryears -
1.Saudi Arabia with a population of 26m has 16 functional refineries, to commission another 2 of 400,000 barrel each per day capacity in 2016
2. The U.S State of California alone has 26, Texas has 19 refineries
3. Whereas Singapore with a population of 5.6million people has 3 refineries with combine refining capacity 1.3m bp/d;
4. Nigeria has 3 or 4 (non functional refineries) built in the 70s & early 80s...now obsolete...16 years of oil boom we didn't add even ONE.
5. We did not invest in our downstream sector, but handed out importation licenses to cronies & acolytes. Today we are paying the price
6. We are paying the price of our past profligacy, irresponsibility in governance and blind leadership.
8. For instance, Egbin power plant was valued at $1.2 billion. A German electricity company bidded but GEJ sold it to Sahara Energy at $470m.
9. Sahara had no previous records on power plant aside importation of petrol but we handed them our LARGEST thermal plant..
10. Easier to cry today but whatever problems we see today was created yesterday with the active connivance of all of us...
11. Active connivance in the sense that we all kept quiet & looked away... Our day just dey break?
12. I am not exonerating the FG of blame, but laying the facts as they are... While you have the right to be angry, pls be angry with sense.
13. Change will come but it will not come overnight... A lot of mess was made either out of omission or commission, change will take a while
14. I am laying these facts out and I challenge anybody with contrary facts to bring it.
15. I am doing this because I feel the pain and agony we are going thru and I feel the collective hurt but we must understand why we are here.
16. I pray that the present FG will have the courage and conviction to right so many of the ills of the past. Our future depends on it.
17. May Nigeria be great again & may our collective suffering spur us to a greater sense of true nationhood. Nigeria shall rise again!!!
God bless us!
God bless u too my man
