LOL! oga relax o, I asked a very simple and straight forward question; i wouldn't want to trade words with you because it isn't anything personal but it is sad that some nigerians are quite myopic and cloud their judgements with sentiments and unjust hunger to see others fall. Try to read his biography ok, that guy was a genius and you will definately gain a thing or two from it. TTYL well, IBB too is considered a genius too, maybe we should also read his biogarphy while we are at it abi? |

All the venom on this forum has revealed the frustration of the poser and his cohorts.
Initially I thought the poser was talking from the position of ignorance but further revelation simply shows that there is a hidden agenda.
Abiola never held political office yet u accused him of looting and continues to make "sinful" comments about him in this regard.
Guys, you have sure earned your pay for today, am sure your pay-master will be happy with you.
Let the dead rest in peace. Enough of the ranting.

Bill Gates was not born into poverty. He cam from upper middle class family in Seattle. But like you mentioned his source of wealth can easily be traced and is legit. Has he been an honest businessman? Far from it.i never siad any one of them was born into poverty! John D. had many dishonest business dealings and they were well documented even though he largely made the world a better place through philanthropy. His price-fixing eventually forced US Supreme court to break his company into present day Exxon, Mobil, Chevron, Conoco, BP, Amoco, etc. So, he was involved in dishonest/below the table business dealings. John D rockerfella was almost an absolute monopolist then;and what do monolpolist do?, SET PRICES(check ur elemenary economics) his monoploy was broken because he was become too powerful by virtue of his oil exploration exploits and control.that iis why they brought up those charges against him. While many of them struck 'Gold' legit, they use illegitimate/dishonest means to build on it. I just gave you examples of illegitimate means the billionaires you mentioned used to consolidate wealth. Do you know how many companies Microsoft or Oracle has killed to build on their owner's wealthDo you undersatnd what capitalism is?,,what agressive busines competition is, ?what monopoloy is all about? note that not too long ago,the fate that befell rockerfella'ss bizness almost happened to bill Gates when microsoft was to be broken up,but Gates won the suit and today,he still on top! point is,you cannot be in business and not take down or in your own trems"kill" ur competitors if u re big enough. it is also sometimes called aquisitions and buy-out, and business strategy, if played withing the law becomes completely legal regardless of what sentiments you might have for the smaller competitor. this is quite different from what we are discussing here. good research though |

Guy if don't know, ask!
a coup needs to be sponsored, why?becos you need money to get some logistics in place and buy pple over to urside.teh junior millitary men tht hatch coups do not have access to such cash!
if a civillian has been confirmed to be directly or indirectly involved in a coup, what is he called?, definitely not an "observer".
he is called a coupist and gets the same fate as the millatry men invold-death! |

Why is Abiola so disparaged on this forum?
I could not just believe all these are being said about a philanthropist whose status remains unmatched twelve years after.
I had a lecturer in the University who is from the East, until we called him to order, this man will spend almost half of his lecture time telling us how he had the privilege of globe trotting with Abiola on his repatriation campaign against the Western countries. He would reel out number of people, associations, community, and clubs that cut across ethic groups that are benefiting from Abiola's wealth by a way of sponsorship, scholarship, project execution and other form of support. I was at an event where Abiola was the special guest, this man came in and greeted everyone warmly - a demonstration of humility that is uncommon among his likes.
Why would you accuse of Abiola of looting when he did not hold any political office in his life -time?
I believe the man made his money as a smart businessman except there is an evidence contrary to this position which should be brought forward if exist.
Please let's be guided in our utterances.
ol boy!, do you think people just wake up and hatch a political ambition? what do you think it takes to drum up popular support within and outside nigeria? don't ibe fooled by the father "xmas antics" of season politicians like MKO. |

Again, an unfortunate statement not rooted in fact.
Abiola was a financial supporter of the Southern African Liberation movements from the 70's in their course for political independence.
Abiola sponsored (underwriting the operating expenses) the campaign to win reparations for slavery and colonialism in Africa and the diaspora. Is it not funny that the case died at the UN after he was incarcerated.
Abiola as at the time he contested for election had made financial assistance that resulted in the construction of 63 secondary schools, 121 mosques and churches, 41 libraries, 21 water projects in Nigeria.
Abiola bookshops Abiola Farms Radio Communications Nigeria, Wonder bakeries, Concord Press, Concord Airlines, Summit oil international ltd, Africa Ocean lines, Habib Bank, Decca W.A. ltd, Abiola football club
All these companies had hundreds and thousands of employees at one time or the other. These employees get paid every month, go through training for jobs that require training including personal development courses/seminars. Yet he did not empower anyone?
Was he not paying the players of Abiola babes decent wages? What do you call creating opportunities for many young men to showcase their skills/talent and get paid for it? Could it be called empowerment?
A good number of ex-concord press employees have gone ahead to become publishers of daily newspapers or weekly magazines. Bayo Onanuga, Mary Ellen Ezekiel, Soji Omotunde, Kunle Ajibade, Ike Okonta, Kayode Soyinka, Ray Ekpu, Dele Giwa, etc. Many of them have given testimonies of how working for the late Chief gave them the opportunity to create a path for themselves and more so, he was paying one of the best salaries in that industry.
There are laundry list of examples of his empowerment.
I think you are free to call him a looter if you so wish but to say he did not empower anyone is totally misleading and unfortunate.
thank you, but can you educate us on how he made is 1st millions?e.g GEORGE SORROS, stock market BILL GATES, info tech OPRAH WINFRY, entertainment ROCKERFELLA, crude oil. and mind you they all grew up as ordinary average pple tilL they made till they struck "Gold" legitimately.it is only in nigeria that so far one doles out "handouts" and does "good" in a bid to reedeem him/herselef;we don't need to know where or how he got thE money in the 1st place- porverty!, that is what it is.
Abiola's name is being smeared(unintentionally)today because he has some dark secrets trailing him.,,even in death.thus validating the saying, "THERE IS NO REST FOR THE WICKED"NUF SAID! |

I can not believe the level of ignorance and ungratefulness being displayed on this forum. This is why Nigeria does not have heroes; because when they are gone, Nigerians will slander their names.
Was Abiola suffering when he decided to run for president? The man wanted to atone for some past mistakes and I believe that he atoned for his past mistakes by paying with his life. Many times, Abacha offered him the opportunity to renounce June 12 yet he refused proclaiming that death was better than disgrace.
Was ITT a Nigerian government entity? If he became rich as a result of his position in a multi-national corporation, how is that stealing from Nigerians.
Carry on complaining and waiting for a saviour.
ITT was supposed to lay the foundation for the telecommunication's(voice, data) revolution that would have taken place in Nigeria some 20something yrs ago. ask urself why the rest of the world laughed at us when we about to lunch the then ageing GSM technology in the 21st century, nig***r please! |

Rumor mills actually have it that he sponsored some of the coups we have had in nigeria.it is only natural that he lost his life and "wealth" in the hands of the same millitary men whom he wined and dined with for many years-@least it was confirmed that he was good frineds with IBB and Abacha. what goes around comes around jare! natural law init? next? |

@bricks You'll need to have a heart of stone for you to leave your banking Jobs to come over to UK; i have to tell you the truth; don't expect to walk into another banking job here in the UK. Your Nigerian experience and qualification will attract an insignificant recognition from UK employers.
Starting a new life in the UK as an immigrant is very hard, there's a very little or rather no help at all from the UK government. The information for new comers is scanty and very misleading. Compared to immigrant going to Canada, USA and Australia, UK immigrants seems to have more hard hurdles to cross. In the Canada for example if you migrate as a skilled worker you could at least go for more education with govt funding and assistance, this definitely do help immigrants to settle and intergrate easily. However, the UK govt does not provide any sort of funding for immigrants under tier1, if you want to study in their Universities you'll be charged at international student rate (except you have resided in the UK for 3 years) and yet they will expect you to make earnings up to £35000 to get your visa renewed! what a ridiculous condition.
My advise to you is to look before you leap and think of the consequences and weigh the merits and demerits of this your proposed migration. I am not discouraging you at all the choice is yours but be aware that there are so many hurdles to cross.
goodluck
thanks man! |
