Webmasters / Re: How Do I Get A Private Sms Number? by broadcode(m): 6:04pm On Aug 06, 2008
Hi,
Sms numbers of that kind are called 'short codes'. Companies like MTECH, iTouch, etc provides such solutions. I have been at MTECH before to make enquiries about the short code sometimes around mid 2006. The price then was about N150,000 for the portal and an additional 40%-50% of the amount charged on each sms. Am not sure about the price and the percentage now, but you could visit their office at 5, Campos Street, Off Broad Street, Lagos or visit their website on www.mtechcomm.com.

Good luck.

Afam,

You now seems to understand what I mean then, if you remember. I told everyone willing then that this section is full of "empty barrels".

Good luck on your search for a "greener pasture".

Webmasters / Re: Please What Does The Word Blog Traffic Mean. by broadcode(m): 11:54am On Jan 10, 2008
Blog Traffic means the number and rate at which visitors check your blog site. Conditions like total visits, location of visitors, time of visit, total time spent on the site, etc make up Blog Traffic.

Hope this helps,

Webmasters / Re: Trying to Create a View Into Nigeria by broadcode(m): 11:43am On Jan 10, 2008
Hi Phantom,

I think you have really done a great job sourcing for and editing contents for your site. I accept it is not easy creating a site like this. I have been working on a project too and would be lauched real soon.

I will like to point to you that visitors on your site would not find it easy to navigate on picture categories. The pictures could be arranged in categories and there should be links to the various categories on all the page, unlike it is now where you have to click on the logo to go to the home page.

You should also avoid srinking the pictures. I mean resizing it from one side. The dimension should be adjusted uniformly from the corners and each photo must carry as much description as possible, not like 'Building in Abuja' as it is now.

I wish you the very best in everything you do.

Hey my2cents,

Why are you scared of me? You shouldn't be  grin and you shouldn't call me a ghost either. I come on here regularly and I reply to any post that I deem fit.

I dont have anything to say about the Daar site but I will like to point an error on your www.acewebdevelopment.net. See what happens to your contact details and links on the top bar (the header) if the browser window is restored down, I mean when the browser is not maximized. Correct this and test your site with different screen resolutions.

Anyway, this is a New Year and please remember I dont hold any grudge with you.

C'mon boy. This is not a battlefield grin and I dont have a grudge with you. Criticise fairly and look at your own works before you fault others'.

YES, nothing on earth is perfect, not even your site
Webmasters / Re: A Usability Case Study: Phcn Website by broadcode(m): 10:52am On Dec 27, 2007
Looking at the design, many experienced webmasters will agree with me that it is quite a nice one. I have studied people that call themselves web designers on here and I have taken time to go through their works. Just a few truly understand the basics of web design, while most of them can't really do what they say,  they copy and edit layouts and they still criticise other people's works to the last dot. That's why am not active on this board anymore. What do we gain in criticising? I really don't know!! Good professional don't castigate,  there come together and discuss better ways to do things.

Let's learn the habit of appreciating other people's works and correct (if the need be) and not pose to be a 'guru'.

THIS IS NIGERIA and am saying it again that WAEC & NECO will not let a second or third party access its database based on the simple fact that a great percentage of Nigerians will edit the result of his/her grandmother's-nephew's aunt's junior brother's result to allow him get admission easily lipsrsealed
Webmasters / Re: Can You Build A Result Checking Portal For A School? by broadcode(m): 9:04am On Nov 02, 2007
Let's face reality here and not waste time. This is Nigeria and as Afam as said WAEC or NECO WILL NOT give rights on it database to a third party because of the money and most especially the precarious nature that comes with it.

Okay Akin,

Have you found someone for the job already? I would be nice if you can state clearly what your client really wants in the right words now?
Webmasters / Re: Can You Build A Result Checking Portal For A School? by broadcode(m): 11:31am On Nov 01, 2007
@bashtech,

Please don't quote me wrong. NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE IN PROGRAMMING!!! I didn't say it is not possible to design something like that, but it requires advanced scripting programming efforts on the part of the developer and it wouldn't be cost effective for the school.

I have worked on a project similar to this during some research works,  softwares like that are sometimes called MOBILE AGENTS,  but it wasn't easy at all.

Hey sokislam, thanks for appreciating those works, though I know they are not too perfect. You can email me on tundeaniyi@yahoo.com

Thanks again.
Webmasters / Re: Can You Build A Result Checking Portal For A School? by broadcode(m): 9:31am On Nov 01, 2007
@Poster,

You have to be careful of some webmasters on here. Accessing WAEC & NECO database from another site is not easy as it seems because I dont think WAEC or NECO can give out rights on its database to an "OUTSIDER". You need the right to access their database before you can design your portal to access their's.

Take your time, get a demo and make sure it meets your requirement before paying anyone.

Webmasters / Re: Can You Build A Result Checking Portal For A School? by broadcode(m): 4:35pm On Oct 31, 2007
Hey Akin,

You are confusing things there. Students now check their WAEC & NECO results on the internet with the use of scratch card pins and the students dont need to go to the school for their results anymore. But if the school needs a portal on which students can login to check their SCHOOL RESULTS and also have a student's area where they can do online registration and all sorts, that would be better.

We can develop a portal for the school and we need to know exactly what the school needs, where the school is located and if they have a website running or not.

Hope to read from you soon.

Let's showcase some of our flash abilities and how we have played with flash in our designs  grin. I think it would be fun comparing our flash abilities here, we can learn more too.

Below are some flash designs I did before, to mention a few:
www.lagosstyle.com
www.bertolamachinetool.com
www.soepropertiesng.com
www.pmanonline.net

Please don't publish another person's design here, just what you did yourself.

Webmasters / Re: Why Did You Become A Web Designer/developer? by broadcode(m): 1:49pm On Oct 29, 2007
Actually, I have wanted to study computer since secondary school. I was in J.S. 3 when my dad bought a new computer and he told me the software were written by some people  shocked. Since then I have wanted to learn the act of software programming. I opted for computer science at the university and I wasn't too bad in programming.

After school, I met a professor that introduced me to web design after seeing my programming works and explain how I could make more money in web design. He is an Egyptian and came to Nigeria as a consultant in web programming. He taught me web design and since then I never regretted.  cheesy
Webmasters / Re: Hit Per Click by broadcode(m): 4:15pm On Oct 26, 2007
It is called a Hit Counter. It can be done in the CGI section in the control panel of your site if you have hosted your site and you have the control panel login details. This is how to do it in CpanelX control panel:

1. Login to your control panel and select CGI Center
2. Select Counter
3. Edit the Preferences
4. Click Preview to see how the counter looks
5. If satisfied, click html to view the HTML code
6. Copy the code and place I where on your site.

This could not work until your files are uploaded on server.

Hope that is helpful.

Hey poster,

No one can call his or her site the best. If you browse regularly you will discover exceptional sites everyday and you would ask "how did they do that?"  and you keep learning new trends everyday wink
Webmasters / Re: The Best Website In Nigeria by broadcode(m): 12:25pm On Oct 25, 2007
There is nothing special about the site! The graphics is cool, that's all.
Webmasters / How Much Does The Design Of A Typcal Website Costs? by broadcode(m): 5:19pm On Oct 24, 2007
I think there is a problem in the pricing system in the web design business. Some web designers has 'spoiled' the business designing 'not up to average' websites. Clients no longer wants to pay more than N15k for a typical website. I think you guys should understand what I mean by a typical website (like a 5-6 page static web). Some designers charge per page while some charge for the whole job.

A client called me to redesign his site sometimes ago, I asked him to pay an amount (I will say the amount later) and he told me the guy that designed it at first collected N10k + hosting and domain name (no wonder he had a terrible site), and that he cant pay more than N10k.  So weird,   angry

Let's share our views on this issue.

I dont think it is important that a webmaster needs to wear ties, but it is nice to be corporate and formal at the same time.
Webmasters / Does A Webmaster Need To Wear Ties? by broadcode(m): 10:45am On Oct 24, 2007
A client confronted me that most web designers don’t were ties. Is it important that we wear ties to meetings just to make it 'FORMAL'?

Webmasters / Re: Are Slow Websites Going Away Anytime Soon? by broadcode(m): 10:34am On Oct 24, 2007
All I have to add here is that we should continue to learn and enhance our works. There are no strict rules in web design as far as I know, just common sense, durability, size and skills are important. The smaller the size of a page and graphics, the faster it downloads.

Kudos to all the real "WEBMASTERS" in Nigeria and Africa. We are improving and I beleive with time we would get there.

Thanks.
